MICHELIN-Starred Restaurants in Asia With Compelling à la Carte Menus

"With Chinese furniture, handwritten signs and an antique gramophone setting the tone, Tầm Vị in Hanoi serves up Northern Vietnamese cuisine with nostalgic flair across an à la carte selection of around 100 items; I’d focus on northern bounties such as its take on cá kho tộ (braised fish) and the subtler canh cua mồng tơi (Vietnamese crab soup with Malabar spinach)." - Alvin Lim

"Now with a two-storey expansion and lush courtyard, English-speaking staff and a photo menu, this vintage tea house is more tourist-friendly. It retains its North Vietnamese charm with antique decor, artwork and a rustic elegance, and continues to impart the essence of Vietnamese cuisine. Highlights include chả ốc (ham with periwinkle snails) served with herbs, vegetables, vermicelli and fish sauce, and the subtle crab soup with malabar spinach in a clear broth." - Michelin Inspector

Very good! Definitely good value for money, no question about that. I did, however, wonder what differentiates a Michelin recommendation versus a star. I only had the vegetarian dishes, for which there weren’t many. The only meat thing I did have was the spring rolls and I must admit that they were not good. I had a large piece of cartilage in mine, which was a surprise. Everything else was good but there was nothing that stood out as giving a ‘wow factor’. The location was beautiful and the staff were lovely.

We dined at **Tầm Vị**, a Michelin-recognized restaurant in Hanoi, and it was an exceptional showcase of classic Vietnamese home-style cooking. Every dish—from the crisp banana flower and pig’s ear salad to the fragrant minced pork wrapped in betel leaf—was deeply flavorful and beautifully balanced. The caramelized pork and eggs were rich and comforting, the fish sauce chicken wings and crispy pork skin were irresistibly addictive, and the steamed pork belly with shrimp paste stood out for its bold authenticity. Thoughtfully prepared, nostalgic, and satisfying, this was one of our most memorable meals in Hanoi.

Had dinner at Tầm Vị and overall it was a pleasant experience. The braised pork was flavorful and the fat was nicely soft and rich. However, the lean meat itself was a bit too firm—would be much better if it were more tender. That said, it’s still very suitable to eat with rice and feels like proper home-style Vietnamese food. The vegetable dish was lovely. I really enjoyed the crunch, especially paired with pork skin—it added a nice texture and balance. The spring rolls were just okay, nothing special. The dipping sauce was quite light, so the overall flavor felt a bit flat compared to the other dishes. On the plus side, pricing is reasonable for the quality and setting. The ambience is very cozy and homey, like eating in a traditional Vietnamese house. Total spend was around 580,000 VND for the meal. Overall, a comfortable place for classic Vietnamese dishes—worth visiting, especially for the atmosphere and pork dishes, just keep expectations realistic.

Food was decent, flavours are definitely on the heavier side. Spinach was well seasoned, garlic added a nice aroma to the dish. Caramelised pork belly was soft, flavours were distinct and well done. However, the fish was on the dry side. Flavours were good, sichuan peppers added a nice spice to the fish but the flesh was overcooked. Lemon grass drink was refreshing and was a good palette cleanser.

Recommend the Fried Spring rolls, very nice thin rice wrap that is used on the outside, Also the Caramelized Pork taste delicious. Ordered one of the sets and ordered Fried Spring rolls as extra. You can tell just looking that they used nice and fresh ingredients im these dishes. Decent Price for a good quality food in Vietnam.

What can I say that hasn’t been said already. Chef Nguyen and the team and Tam Vi have truly outdone themselves. The 4 of us ordered 7 dishes, each better than the last. Betel leaves wrapped pork was a really culinary surprise. We loved all the drinks we ordered as well. I was shocked at how small the bill was. Highly recommend.

Tam Vi offers an authentic Vietnamese experience that has a feel of quality home cooking and refinement of a polished restaurant. The food was high quality and was extremely quick to come out so good was fresh. Service was super helpful and friendly. We arrived about 5 minutes before our reservation time and was almost seated immediately when their service was pretty crowded. Fantastic quality to how much the meal costed. There are set menus you can try but if you are comfortable, you can order al a carte.

Tam Vi is aesthetically beautiful! The ambience is rustic and really well thought out. The presentation of the dishes is impressive and the food itself was tasty, but for me, it didn’t quite reach the wow factor I was expecting from a Michelin guide spot. Delicious yes, but it was just okay. Service was attentive, which made the experience more enjoyable. Overall, worth visiting for the atmosphere and thoughtful presentation, even if the flavors didn’t completely blow me away.
