MICHELIN-Starred Restaurants in Asia With Compelling à la Carte Menus

"With Chinese furniture, handwritten signs and an antique gramophone setting the tone, Tầm Vị in Hanoi serves up Northern Vietnamese cuisine with nostalgic flair across an à la carte selection of around 100 items; I’d focus on northern bounties such as its take on cá kho tộ (braised fish) and the subtler canh cua mồng tơi (Vietnamese crab soup with Malabar spinach)." - Alvin Lim

"Now with a two-storey expansion and lush courtyard, English-speaking staff and a photo menu, this vintage tea house is more tourist-friendly. It retains its North Vietnamese charm with antique decor, artwork and a rustic elegance, and continues to impart the essence of Vietnamese cuisine. Highlights include chả ốc (ham with periwinkle snails) served with herbs, vegetables, vermicelli and fish sauce, and the subtle crab soup with malabar spinach in a clear broth." - Michelin Inspector

Every dish we tried was fantastic, from the flavorful betel leaves to the refreshing pig's ear salad. The stir-fry dishes were especially memorable—savory, perfectly seasoned, and full of that "wok hey" magic that, as we Cantonese say, is essential for great stir-fry. They offer two versions of the stir-fried beef with fresh bamboo: one with sour bamboo and one without. The sour bamboo version? Absolutely divine! The crispy roasted chicken, green mango salad, and fried goby fish were also standouts, each dish showcasing the restaurant's attention to detail and authentic flavors. The staff, though young, were incredibly friendly and professional, adding to the lively and welcoming vibe. Dishes come out quickly, so I recommend ordering starters first and then mains to pace your meal. Portions are generous, so no need to over-order. A must-visit for anyone craving authentic Vietnamese cuisine with a Michelin twist!

Definitely need reservations if you do not want to wait for a table. Most of the dishes orders were good with some dishes maybe not to my liking or at best mediocre. We went in as a group of 8 and may have ordered a bit too much. However the total bill was just at 3 million VND. More dishes were ordered but not all had the photos taken. Reasonably priced for a 1 star Michelin. We were all satisfied and have to say, all their staffs were well versed in English and I overheard one of then who spoke fluent Chinese as well which made the whole experience so much better. There was a server, her name may be Mun but I am not sure. Saw her holding a walkie talkie with the name “Mun” stick on it. Exceptional service from her. Made the experience so much better.

The meal we had here was the one I was most looking forward to. We had a few hiccups with our reservation because of several days of road closures for Vietnam’s Independence Day celebrations, and heavy traffic (of course), but the staff was very responsive and accommodating. They really made sure to meet us halfway. The effort was worth it! We were warmly welcomed by their team and even escorted to our reserved table in their other building (they actually have two, separated by Fuku Cafe). The ambiance was sooo inviting; the wooden interiors gave off both a homely feel and a true Vietnamese vibe. And the food? Surprisingly affordable for how delicious and generous the servings were! We honestly thought we wouldn’t be able to finish everything, but we did. I especially loved the mango salad, the tofu in green onion sauce, and the thinly sliced pork. They even treated us to longan for dessert. Such a nice touch! I’ll definitely come back to dine here again and bring family and friends the next time I visit Hanoi.

This was my first Michelin dining experience, but I come from the Washington DC area so I'm used to some pretty epic food. This food was good, but it wasn't GREAT. So we were a little underwhelmed. Same with the drinks - they were just ok. We had the pork spring rolls, the beef and bamboo, and the dill hemibargus. The fish was the best of the 3. The staff was wonderful. The vibe was good. It's a lovely space. I would eat there again. I just don't know that I would consider it as one of my Top 50 restaurant experiences.

Lives up to the hype and the star! Super cute restaurant that almost feels like someone’s house, with a super friendly and English friendly staff. Food was delicious! I had the shrimp and pork rolls, the fish sauce wings and the chayote greens in garlic and everything was awesome! The wings were a standout for me, crispy and succulent and the caramelized sauce was soooo good. Great food and incredible value for money!

Tâm Vi was delicious! The food was amazing and so much of it and served so fast. The pork belly was the true highlight. Listen to the staff if they tell you it’s too much and also reserve if you can! They’re absolutely packed and move through real fast - so it can feel a little less relaxing but the food makes up for it. Be aware they only serve beer or non alcoholics - so this is not a big ‘dinner and drinks’ evening out - more of a sit, eat and move on but again the food more than makes up for it. The service is a bit average but again, that’s not the vibe they’re going for. Delicious food and lots of it is where it’s at!

For a Michelin restaurant, I was expecting more in terms of flavour profile, quality of food and service but nothing was particularly stellar for us. The chayote vegetable was garlicky and enjoyable so do give that a try. The braised pork was good but flavour wise nothing mindblowingly unique. We tried the fried goby that looked came out looking different from what was in the menu but be careful when eating because the fried fish bit was stuck to the roof of my mouth and I had to pry it out.

Went there for dinner on a Wednesday evening. Best to have reservations beforehand. It took us a few tries before we could get a time that we liked. I think the reservations were made through their instagram page. I wasn’t particularly thrilled by the food though my wife didn’t have any complaints. As a picky American, I am used to getting all the dishes served at once. I don’t appreciate getting my meal served and then having to wait an additional ten minutes for my wife’s meal to arrive. There was one dish that she had to ask the wait staff to follow up on as it took forever to arrive. Sure, the place is cool and I felt cool about having dinner there. I just wish I would have eaten there before they got started. Of course I would recommend that you go and experience the place for yourself every time you find yourself in Hanoi.
