Overall thoughts:
We'd made a reservation a month prior by email, like many others it seemed, and unfortunately, the arrival process was quite chaotic. Staff struggled to manage both reservations and walk-ins, leaving everyone standing around without a clear system. A popular restaurant like this would certainly benefit from using a proper reservation platform to streamline things
Thankfully we didn’t have to wait that long for a table - perhaps 15mins or so.
Tam Vi offers an overwhelming yet delightful array of home-style North Vietnamese dishes. Opting for the set meal for 3-4 people, it perfectly satisfied three of us. The food truly felt like a home-cooked feast; unassuming dishes surprised with spot-on flavors. Highlights included the delicious betel leaf-wrapped meat, delicate fried tofu, and melt-in-your-mouth pork belly. While some items like the boiled vegetables and non-wrapped spring rolls were unremarkable, the overall experience showcased the authentic heart of North Vietnamese cuisine. It might not be a "shout about it" Michelin star experience, but the genuine care in each dish shines through.
