"Gresham might be a taco-lovers paradise, but tamale fanatics can find a stunning array at a strip mall on the border of Troutdale. “Food To Go” lettered on the side of the shop hints at the simple wooden tables and chairs within, though even if the cutlery is disposable, the plates are not. It’s hard to go wrong at Tamale Factory, whether customers order the restaurant’s corn husk tamales, like the pork in red sauce, or the Oaxacan-style chicken mole tamales wrapped and steamed in aromatic banana leaves." - Krista Garcia, Janey Wong

"Tamale Factory is a Gresham institution, thanks to its parcels of masa-stuffed corn husks with fillings like pork in salsa verde or jalapeno-cheese. The sweet corn here is a particular standout; order them all for delivery." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Google
Some of the best tamales! My family loves tamales but some restaurants make them very spicy with peppers. However these are very flavorful with little spice! I was worried at first they would be dry as they are kept in a hot thing but the masa was moist and chicken saucy (in a good way). It is very clean inside and the staff is super nice and welcoming! Pricing is fair considering the size and amount of meat. I got 6 chicken for $20, so roughly $3.34 each? Usually I believe on their own it's $3.50 for chicken.

Google
Tamale factory catered my daughter’s graduation party for 30 people. The tamales, rice and beans were delicious! We also ordered agua frescas which everybody loved. Antonio was a pleasure to deal with and they delivered everything for only 20 dollars!

Google
We ordered tamales for an event for over 300 people and it was so easy to order and they delivered to us making it that much easier on us. We love having them as our community partner, they are so supportive of our organization and families! Highly recommend!

Google
Delicious! I had the chicken tamales and they were big and not too dry. Not a sit down place, but great to stop in and pick up for lunch.

Maria Hernandez

Google
First time here am very disappointed I bought 7 tamales 2 which were jalapeños with cheese. The sad part was that hardly any jalapeños were in the tamales and no cheese. Double check your tamales before you leave to make sure you order what you paid for! Looks more like masa 🙄

Google
Amazing Tamales! I’ve ordered tamales for work parties and for family dinners. They’re a hit! I’ll definitely be coming back for more(:

Google
Tamales are delicious and the price is right. 2 tamales w/rice and beans for $9. Friendly staff and service. Only downside is that they close at 4pm.

Google
The Tamale Factory has amazing tamales, salsa, rice and beans!! Antonio is very professional and friendly. Our Elementary school has used the Tamale Factory for MANY of our events.

Yelp
The cashier (Caroline) was very nice and welcomed us with a smile- we need more of this service overall good she seems to enjoy what she does.

Kaylie B.

Yelp
I love these tamales. I have not had a bad tamale from this place. Anytime we are in the area we stop and at least get one. I want to try the chili beef one next. Today we got the chicken tamale. Nice texture on the mesa. Chicken was juicy and tender. Service is always nice and friendly.

Jonathan F.

Yelp
No vegan options, they looked shocked when I asked if they had em... just letting public know.

Sterling P.

Yelp
We got tamales yesterday at our same spot. 3out of the 4 tamales were big on corn and short on pork. One more time, hopefully they will contain more filling. Very disappointing! .

Aimee T.

Yelp
Good size and variety of tamales for everyone who likes them Friendly employees and fast service Like real homemade tamales fresh and delicious

Yelp
It's been a busy December and I realized I forgot to order tamales. We've had great luck with the Tamale Factory in the past and they did not disappoint this year. I ordered them on Thursday and picked them up today Saturday. When I got home, it was lunchtime, so I tried a pork and chicken tamale. They were both delicious and the price is very reasonable. Highly recommend.

Bob L.

Yelp
This eatery possibly has a new owner. I hadn't been there for a few weeks and stopped by after my shift. Typically I buy a dozen tamales and was somewhat shocked by the price increase. That said my wife is a vegan/vegetarian and I love those options too. However this time I ordered three chicken tamales and ten others with corn and jalapeño cheese. Wow the vegetable tamales were still fantastic, but the chicken tamales were the best I've ever had the pleasure to enjoy. The new lady at the counter works hard to please the customers, I recommend this restaurant and am looking forward to returning again.

Mayda A.

Yelp
The thickness and flavor make these delicious. Also their salsa to pour over them is awesome!

Fernanda R.

Yelp
Ordered jalapeño and cheese tamal and got a chicken one. Also, got their flan which turned out to be spoiled (green and pink in the bottom).

Elijah B.

Yelp
Amazing people, Amazing prices, best authentic tamales in Oregon !!!! as a customer, I am treated with respect every single time. If the stands open, PULL OVER!!!

Darlene G.

Yelp
Kinda surprised this place has such good reviews??? We ordered 4 different types: Pork Chile verde Chicken and salsa Roja Chili beef And the sweet corn They weren't terrible, just really bland. We were not expecting that based on the reviews. Sad.

Candice P.

Yelp
I absolutely love these tamales. Never dry and always tastey. I love their beans too! The moved from off Hogan Rd....but I found them off Division St!

Tenley H.

Yelp
Delicious tamales, generously sized and filled. I love both the red and green sauces and they give you plenty. Right now they have a sweet potato which is VERY sweet but super good.

Dave D.

Yelp
I got turned onto Tamale Factory because they have a vendor who sells their tamales on the sidewalk in front of La Tapatia Market #2, at Powell & Cleveland. They are an affordable and tasty treat to take home. Try it, and you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
I'm solo at a hotel while my hubby & boys go to a basketball game. Decided to order Tamale factory from Uber eats. I placed my order and forgot that I hadn't put in specific instructions about flatware, napkins, etc. I called the 1-800 number to see if they can add it & they told me that they would cancel the order & to just re-order & make sure to add it in the notes. I re-ordered it with the notes even though I was dismayed to see that my delivery time would now be a 1/2 hour later than I had originally wanted. Fast forward to my late delivery and I received the food but absolutely no plates, napkins or plastic silverware. The tamales themselves were about 90% masa & 10% filling. These tamales were huge and not in a good way. What I did taste of the minuscule amount of filling was not good. Bland & dry. I actually was wishing I had sour cream. I'm sure Portland is not known for their Mexican food but when I come across an option close to my hotel on yelp that can be delivered by Uber eats & has a 4 star rating, I expect at least that. This was barely 2 stars.

Laura A.

Yelp
Good tamales! Walked clean and simple menu on the wall. Person who took our order was nice and friendly. Tamales were cheap $2.99 each. I highly recommend pork in green sauce.

Lynne D.

Yelp
Tamales were absolutely wonderful. Having been raised in Southern NM, these are the closest to home. One of the few place to get Elote Tamales - so good

Laurel H.

Yelp
I've never had authentic tamales before so take my opinion with a grain of salt. I really enjoyed the pork with green salsa. Nicely layered flavors. I tasted my friend's chicken in red salsa and may like it a little better. They were both good. The horchata was cold and good. The restaurant was very clean and the service friendly. A great place for a very affordable lunch. 9 of 10, would eat again.

Frances L.

Yelp
Was driving by and saw the sign on stark tamale Factory.!! After forcing my husband to pull over because tamales in the fall are a must, we were greeted by a young man who was very helpful. He explained the process on how they make them showed us where they keep them steamed ect.. So to get on with it they have 5 types and they let you mix and match your dozen, unfortunately they were sold out on the spinach and mushroom; but the jalapeño, chicken, pork, and beef where all exceptional. The meat to masa ratio is perfect and they are steamed to perfection. Bonus they give you a free tamale if you check in and a 10% discount when you buy 12 or more. The interior is small and self bus type. But I've have yet to find a better tamale in PDX give em a try they won't disappoint

Jes G.

Yelp
This is a barebones tamale joint. I can promise you, it wasn't the dude on the corner with the sombrero and sign that brought me in -- I just wanted some tamales and I was staying across the street. You order your tamales. Do you want rice/beans? Would you like a can of carbonated beverage or horchata? Here. Enjoy. The place is tiny, and it seems about as authentic as the abuelita Astro van that rumbles through the neighborhood selling tamales out the back door. It's a little costly for what it is, but it's absolutely delicious. It's not worth much but the flavor takes the cake!

Michael T.

Yelp
You must try this place. I am from Southern California where we have no shortage of authentic Mexican restaurants. This place is so authentic the steam the tamales in a big pot near the front of the store! They offer multiple flavors including vegetarian and vegan options. Their frijoles and rice taste like your favorite tia's Sunday home coming. This place is one of a kind. For the same price of a full meal at Taco Bell you can Phillip on something much more delicious and nutritious

Laurie M.

Yelp
My husband really misses getting holiday tamales like he had growing up in SoCal...The Tamale Factory is the favorite of those he's found thus far in PDX. The fillings are not skimpy like so many others are and the masa was really flavorful and moist! He would highly recommend

Ellie L.

Yelp
Where is a the meat? Pork tamale Mesa was green dry and badly lacking pork! Very inconsistent

Sugar L.

Yelp
I ordered tamales from this restaurant today and eyewitness the waitress spit in my salsa un-freakin'-believable I will call the authorities

Brenisa C.

Yelp
I can't believe that I've passed this place so many times - I was missing out there tamales are so yummy. I love this place!

Tita M.

Yelp
This place has the best tamales we always get the cheddar and jalapeño and they are amazing and this food is authentic and delicious. Also they have the best beans and homemade tortilla chips I have ever had and the rice is amazing.

Brian W.

Yelp
Randomly found this place when in the area for lunch. Family owned restaurant which is show in the quality of food and the care given to customers. Went with the taco Tuesday special which was a great deal (2 street tacos, 1 tamale and a drink) for $6.95. All the food was great especially the tamale. Also they make their own hot sauce, the green was killer. Would certainly come back and get tamales to go!

Anndrea V.

Yelp
My friend and I decided to dine in today, on our lunch break and we weren't disappointed! I checked Yelp reviews before going and it's close to our job, and I rarely turn down Mexican food. We arrived and it was tiny inside, kinda cold. My friend ordered nachos and I ordered the bowl. I also ordered chips and salsa which I got for free since it was my first time in! We seated and our food came in about 10 mins, and it was fresh. I love the beans & the rice! The chips and salsa were perfect! My friend devoured her nachos as well. Overall it was a great experience and I definitely will visit again for lunches, dinners and snacks haha! I love fresh food and great customer service and I received both :)

Cris W.

Yelp
The tamales were delicious. Piping hot, well-packed, and flavorful. The tamales de elote were a bit crumbly but SO good; the others were great especially with their red salsa. The restaurant was very clean with hand sanitizer and no-contact payment. I placed my order and was out within 2 minutes.

Steve A.

Yelp
My wife and I stumbled on to the Tamale Factory while looking for a place to have lunch. The place is small with only a few eat-in tables. Very friendly and helpful counter person. We ordered 2 Tamales each. They were the real deal. We haven't had a Tamale taste that good since leaving So Cal. Getting 2 each was a mistake. They are very large Tamales. One was fine for lunch, so we took the other home and had them lunch the next day. Eating in is the only downside. The tables were built like I did it myself. In other words, not very stable. Be careful when sitting down. We will be back for sure.

Nancy C.

Yelp
OMG Best tamales ever!!! And I am known as the "Tamale Queen " We had chicken, pork (they were out of beef), Spinach & Mushroom, & Sweet Corn They were perfect in every way (moist - not to wet, not dry)

Troy D.

Yelp
Simple and affordable tamales. They had 3 different veggie options which brought me in. The mushroom and spinach were my favorite. The green sauce is great but the red sauce is very heavily tomato based rather than chili, wasn't as good as the green. Will be back!

Nick B.

Yelp
Yum! My family got subway across the street and I bought 2 tamales. They recommend pork and chicken. Then my family ate my tamale lunch instead of their lame sandwiches.

Kristine K.

Yelp
Tried pork chicken and beef all legit not the stuff you get from most Mexican restaurant in the area where it's all masa no meat, masa has no flavor and been sitting in the freezer for God knows how long will definitely be back no picture to post this time

Moroni C.

Yelp
Little places like this need to be known. Beware tho. Buying tamales in your regular quantities will most likely put you into a food coma. These tamales are huge! Tried a small variety of tamales, and a taco. Wasn't disappointed in my decision to come here. Hope these guys make it! They deserve it

Ivan L.

Yelp
Customer service is one of a kind but the tamales are even better! The owner is nice and will give you the run down on how the tamales are made. So good!

Rylee B.

Yelp
Ordered for delivery on Postmates. Really good sized meal with two tamales and rice and beans. I love the rice, beans were a little flavorless but salt helped. Tamales are good and full (I got chicken) although a little drier than I'd like. They give you the same salsa with the tamale as the chips and salsa and I don't like it. Not super flavorful, would like a darker red salsa with the tamale. Over all good though and good for the price.

Allyson N.

Yelp
The tamales were very moist with a lot of favor. Love the homemade salsa. The employees wore masks. I would come back.

Tom B.

Yelp
Where's the beef or pork or any filling, for that matter. We were tired of Xmas leftovers and decided to try this place. Had issues with the phone number not working. Finally got a combo of every tamale. Wrapped I noted how large they were. Opened one and all looked fine until.....I cut into one first which was the pork, I swear there was the smallest piece of pork surrounded by masa. I cut into the next variety basically the same, virtually only a whisper of filling. I have included a pic of the jalapeño and chicken tamale, which had MORE filling than most of the others. If you like masa this may be your place. Sorry we won't be back.

Adam M.

Yelp
Five days. That's all it took. It took me five days of living in the area to fall in love with Tamale Factory. The food here is amazing. I tried the Jalapeno, Pork, and Chicken tamales and every single one was great. When I went to the counter to get my order the woman behind the counter told me she gave me another Jalapeno tamale for free because "they are small". Granted, the Jalapeno tamale was smaller than the Chicken or Pork, but the Jalapeno tamale was still a great size. The food is fairly priced for the portions you get and it's well worth checking out. They do have a small menu, but everything on their menu is extremely well made.

Lori M.

Yelp
Very dry. Where's the sauce?? Not much filling to corn ratio. I'm still looking for the perfect tamale. Looking elsewhere.

Sherry S.

Yelp
Bought another dozen of these vegetarian tamale beauties! I am actually eating one at the same time I am typing up this. They make the best vegetarian ones, oh and vegan ones as well. They had 3 vegetarian/vegan choices when I went in to order some. Most of the time you cannot get a tamale without meat.. Or, when you can, it's ALL cornmeal and maybe an obligatory little piece of asparagus or something. These are LOADED with veggies. I'm eating a jalapeno and white cheese tamale as well as a spinach and mushroom tamale (vegan). Every bite has filling poking out! No more dry tamales! I also bought their jalapeno salsa which has so much flavor it's perfect over these mamas! The other thing I like about them is that they are all ready for me to eat. I throw them in the microwave for 1 minute with a slightly damp paper towel over them and viola! Homemade tamales for lunch! Heck breakfast even! You can also keep them in the fridge for 5 days before freezing them! OK I repeat myself but seriously, it's really cool to do another review of a place you love and they have not changed a thing! So see ya tamale already!

Jennifer W.

Yelp
It's so nice to welcome Tamale Factory to downtown Gresham! Today is their second day open, and there were several people inside when I stopped by. I tried the Jalapeno & Cheese tamale. It was perfectly moist with just the right mix of spice and cheese. They have meat (chicken, beef, pork) and vegetarian (jalapeno & cheese, bean & cheese, spinach & mushroom) options. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. It's a tiny shop- so you order at the counter and get your tamales to go. I feel like this place will be added to my go-to spots for sure!

Deb P.

Yelp
LOVED the tamales at Tamale Factory! When checking in with Yelp, I also got a free tamale--thank you! We ordered each kind and they were delicious--pork and green, chicken and red, jalapeno, veggie. I don't eat tamales very often, because I always worry they will be dry. These weren't! I think my favorite was the pork and green chili. Prices were very reasonable. We ordered the 1/2 dozen that came with beans and rice and it was $15.75 or so. Very nice size tamales. We got them to-go, but I think there were a few tables. Craving one right now! I was served by the owner, who was friendly.

Lindsay C.

Yelp
Fantastic tamales! Very nice workers, and very fast. I was impressed with how large the tamales were. Chicken was our favorite.

Marc F.

Yelp
We are Factory I got handcrafted Tamales We are Factory Get up every morning and steam Everyone can see we're aggressive Our hellapeño's inside (And!) and we vie just like masa marauders I won't tell no lie (All!) all of the people around us they say Can they be that brusque It's understood, at the base of Mt. Stacie B.

Yelp
I had it delivered so I have no idea what the restaurant looks like, but these tamales are legit! I tried chicken, pork, & jalapeño cheese- all were fantastic. They're good sized & moist- no dry masa or meat at all. There's also lots of filling. I'll definitely get tamales here again!

Jerry M.

Yelp
It figures that Tamale Factory would have great tamales because, after all, the word "tamale" is part of their name and also, when I saw their menu, it's OBVIOUS that's their specialty because that's all they have. There's a variety of tamales to choose from so I ordered a Two Tamale Combo with my choices being Pork in Green Salsa and Beef & Bean Chili. I chose Mexican Rice and Black Beans as my two sides. They also have Cilantro Rice, which sounds interesting and I'll try some other time. OK, both tamales were very fresh tasting and delicious. Also, the ratio of fillings to masa was very good. . .there was plenty of tasty ingredients in the middle. They don't skimp on the "good stuff". They are located in a strip mall and their space is small, so the seating area is quite limited. There was only one other customer besides me who was eating there. However, during the time I was sitting there eating, a steady stream of customers came in to get food to go. Obviously, a lot of people know they have great food. . .and I know it too now. I'll be back for more.

Erin M.

Yelp
Made a pit stop here for lunch on a Sunday late afternoon and was not disapointed! They had plenty of options to choose from and nothing appeared to be sold out. I loved the pork in green sauce tamale, and also the chips and salsa was delicious! Check this place out!
