"Tamales Doña Emi in Mexico City sells both savory and sweet tamales." - Meagan Drillinger

"The best tamales in Mexico City sell out quickly from this demure storefront on a quiet street in the Roma neighborhood. While tamales are a common street food, this walk-up shop (with sidewalk tables for those who want to eat on-site) turns the everyday breakfast food into the extraordinary. While there is no way to go wrong—they are all great—it’s worth trying some of the specials: like pork loin with olives or beans with cheese and grasshoppers. This is a family-run operation, and they are friendly and welcoming, even as they move efficiently through the line." - Naomi Tomky, Scarlett Lindeman

Best Tamales I’ve had in my life. They are generously filled and high quality ingredients. It’s a great environment, but make sure to come early on weekends before they sell out! The owner, David, is extremely friendly. We arrived at 1pm on Saturday and they were sold out of all their savoury tamales. But David gave us a few from his personal friend’s order so that we weren’t left only eating sweet tamales. I will definitely come back earlier another day so I can try more tamales! Also highly recommend the guava juice. Very fresh!

One of the best things we ate during our 2 weeks in Mexico city! The tamales are so delicious...each bite is a comfort. My favourite was the poblano, while my bf liked the fig. They are generous with the fillings. We also tried tamales from another popular stand, and these were better by far. The dough had a slightly grainy texture, which I liked.

I got there at noon and they only had two savory options and one sweet tamale. They didn't have atole at all only American coffee.

Amazing tamales, incredible variety. We got pork with olives, huitlacoche with cheese, chapulines & mole. All delicious. They also have sweet tamales. This restaurant is very popular and sells out early, like 10am even, so if you want to drop in, don’t delay. You can also place an order in advance via WhatsApp if you want to eat later in the morning. Highly recommended!

We love the tamales here! We came multiple times during our stay and especially enjoyed the verde and pumpkin flower tamales. The staff are so friendly and kind 💗

The best Tamales we had in Mexico. Owner is very English speaker friendly. They have an English menu, and the owner gave us great recommendations.
