I left Trang's Seafood Market, and walking to my car, noticed a tamale cart. Actually, what I noticed was a small crowd of people standing around a cart, eating out of tin foil wrappers with plastic forks. Construction workers, teenage kids, moms with laundry baskets on wheels... Everyone looked happy, and it was lunch time, so I sidled up to see what the fuss was about.
It was about decent Oaxaca-style tamales, chicken mole wrapped in banana leaf. Other selections were pork, beef, pineapple, cheese and to wash it all down, the classic Mexican breakfast drink, champurrado (atole de chocolate). Ay... Dios Mio!
Not the best I've had, but one of the better tamales Oaxaqueños I've eaten north of Ciudad Oaxaca. And at the price, a great value and a nice find.
