Designed by the same people as the nearby Rachamankha, but with simpler materials and more humility, it feels comfortable and chic without being luxurious or upmarket. Newly refreshed bedrooms in boutique Lanna style make the best use of the limited space. There's a large swimming pool, an unbeatable breakfast buffet, and friendly staff who welcome you with cold drinks and city maps. It's owned by people who understand the hotel business (cynics might say a little too well), so everything runs smoothly, and there's the usual array of good (if slightly overpriced) spa treatments and tours. "From the inside, Tamarind Village feels like nothing so much as a countryside boutique resort — never mind the fact that it’s right in the heart of the urban hub of northern Thailand, the city of Chiang Mai. It’s a pretty good compromise for those who desire a bit of laid-back serenity along with healthy doses of old-city sights and nightlife. The Tamarind Village hotel was our first stop in Thailand, and set a very high standard that was impossible to match. The property is charming, with a huge tamarind tree, beautifully set out accommodation, and little courtyards where you can wander and relax. The restaurant serves excellent food and cocktails at a reasonable price. The location, right in the heart of the old city, is perfect. The staff are helpful and friendly. I can't think of a single thing wrong with this hotel!

This is the first time I’ve ever left a review for a hotel, but this one was so special I feel compelled to take the time to do so. This was my favorite stay of any stay I’ve ever had, basically anywhere. There’s something really special about this place. It’s so so charming! Chiang Mai, especially old city, is charming on its own, but this hotel is the cherry on top. Bonus, the restaurant here has also been my favorite in Thailand so far! Everything is clean and peaceful and lovely. The service here is also fantastic. I felt welcome every moment. Even when I was being sort of precious about the spotlight outside our window at midnight, they quickly turned it off for me the moment I asked. Also!! I never mentioned this to them, but they must have seen it on my passport, they left me a card and gift on my bed on my birthday while we were out and about. That was incredibly thoughtful. Maybe worth noting, this has been the only non five star hotel we’ve stayed at in Thailand, but it has been my favorite, by far. I can’t recommend it enough! P.S. I had mango sticky rice and chamomile tea every night before bed at the restaurant here and I slept like a baby.

We stayed for 3 nights at the Tamarind Village hotel. It is very rustic and in Lanna style. We had a deluxe room which was absolutely lovely but very very small. Thank goodness we didn’t spend much time in the room! Staff were excellent. Very helpful. Breakfast pleasant with a good selection. All food covered so no flies could land on food. Coffee was quite a poor standard but luckily lots of coffee shops in the area.

We had a lovely extended stay here, due to the heavy rains and flooding in the south, we decided to stay here in chaing mai. The staff were brilliant at finding us another room and extending our stay. Beds are comfortable with free bottled water, bathrooms were clean and cleaned daily. The restaurant had a brilliant selection of very tasty food. We would be very happy to return.

Loved our stay at Tamarind Village, a beautiful boutique hotel with heart and soul in the old city of Chiang Mai. Excellent location with temples, shops, resturants, coffee shops on the doorstep. Gorgeous pool and restaurant area with a relaxed, intimate & feel good atmosphere, an ingrediant often lacking in more expensive hotels. Generous landscaping, tropical plants and trees emphasise the feeling of calm. As some reviewers have noted, lighting in the rooms could be improved but this also feels grounding somehow, gentle. And is more than made up for by the kind & helpful staff and overall great environment. Delicious buffet breakfasts & meals at the hotel restaurant, Ruen Tamarind. Recomend this gem of a hotel for families, couples and solo travellers.

A secret escape from the city of Chiang Mai - perfect location but serene and peaceful, you would never know you’re in a downtown area. Amazing shopping, restaurants, nearby to temples and so much more. The staff were so attentive and gave us so many recommendations on where to go and eat and find exactly what we are looking for. Amazing and therapeutic stay!!!

Very charming place. Lovely, old-style luxury. Feels unique. Very friendly staff. Not on the mega scale of other places where it feels industrial at breakfast. Pool area is relaxing and quiet.||Very central in middle of the town; sort of an oasis of calm.||Only minor points are no gym and could have slightly better bread/pastry selection on breakfast. Oh, and there are little shaded roofs that you need to be very careful not to bang your head on. I did twice somehow and it was very sore!

It is in the heart of downtown, but once you enter the property you could be in the countryside. A historic property, that has been incredibly renovated, large well decorated rooms, comfortable beds with nice linen (huge bathrooms) and great amenities. The grounds are photogenic and pool crystal clear. But the best - the staff are amazingly friendly, helpful and were great with recommendations. Truly a great experience and would return.
