"Tamarind Village Though Tamarind Village is located on one of Chiang Mai’s most touristy thoroughfares, you’d hardly guess it on arrival. A tranquil allée of arched bamboo meanders toward the romantic hotel, which sits beneath the 200-year-old tamarind tree for which it’s named. Covered walkways arranged around a network of leafy courtyards lead to 46 guest rooms, each individually decorated with locally woven textiles and bespoke furnishings. In addition to visiting the on-site spa, guests can learn how to make flower garlands, whip up Thai specialties during cooking classes, or embark on a complimentary walking tour to give alms to Buddhist monks."

Tamarind Village, Chiang Mai, northern Thailand - Explore & Book

"Chiang Mai is a mighty urban sprawl around a seductive square mile of charm. Right in the heart of this charm, in a prime old town location where you’d expect it to be noisiest and hottest, is a true oasis of cool and calm. Built around a 200-year old tamarind tree, and approached through a long bamboo tunnel, this collection of buildings with verdant courtyards - inspired by rural temple cloisters - is a gem of a hotel. Designed by the same people as the nearby Rachamankha, but with simpler materials and more humility, it feels comfortable and chic without being luxurious or upmarket. Newly refreshed bedrooms in boutique Lanna style make the best use of the limited space. There's a large swimming pool, an unbeatable breakfast buffet, and friendly staff who welcome you with cold drinks and city maps. It's owned by people who understand the hotel business (cynics might say a little too well), so everything runs smoothly, and there's the usual array of good (if slightly overpriced) spa treatments and tours. But the vibe remains relaxed, and the hotel's enduring popularity tells you that they have got the formula just right. Highs After a day of sightseeing, we loved plunging into the pool, designed like a lotus pond and set in dappled shade It's within walking distance of all the main temples and markets, including a Sunday market right outside Despite the central position, the hotel feels leafy and almost rural; and is surprisingly quiet at night (bar the occasional rooster) Service, for a largish hotel, remains sincere and personal Excellent value, especially considering the prime location and the pool Lows Renovations on guest rooms are taking place May-July 2025, so some daytime noise is expected. The pool will be closed September 2025 for maintenance; guests can use the pools at nearby hotels for free The pool water can get warm, and at busy times deckchairs and towel space can be at a premium The restaurant, spilling out attractively on the rim of the pool, is quite steeply priced The spa seems a little expensive: more affordable options are available nearby" - Michael Cullen

Tamarind Village (Chiang Mai, Thailand) 10 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"From the inside, Tamarind Village feels like nothing so much as a countryside boutique resort — never mind the fact that it’s right in the heart of the urban hub of northern Thailand, the city of Chiang Mai. It’s a pretty good compromise for those who desire a bit of laid-back serenity along with healthy doses of old-city sights and nightlife. A short walk beneath the bamboo arch that serves as the gateway, past the 200-year-old tamarind tree that gives the hotel its name, and one more or less leaves the city behind." - Tablet Hotels

Simply amazing. ||From the location to the service to the room decoration, to the food, we were very impressed by this boutique hotel with such high standards. ||The entrance does not give in very much on the top quality of this place but we loved how discreet and nestled it was. The swimming pool was just perfect size and the courtyard with the 200 year-old Tamarind tree gives such a peaceful vibe to the place.||The amenities are lovely and the service is very attentive. ||It's quite central and easy to hop on a tuk tuk to any place around in town, the nearby streets are full of shops. The nearest temple is just 1 min away and we could visit the night market by taking a 10 min ride. Food in Chiang Mai is exquisite, a must do and visit.

We had such a great experience staying at this hotel in Chiang Mai! The architecture is absolutely beautiful a perfect blend of traditional Thai style and modern design. Every detail feels curated and artistic. The staff were genuinely kind and helpful, always ready with a smile. You can feel the warm hospitality from the moment you arrive. One thing we truly appreciated is their commitment to sustainability. From refillable water bottles to eco-friendly amenities and mindful energy use , it's great to see a hotel that supports going green without compromising comfort. Plus, the location is super convenient, close to the Old City, markets, and lots of cute cafes. Highly recommend this place for a stylish, responsible, and relaxing stay in Chiang Mai! Oh, many thanks for 2h free walking tour :)

Excellent location, exemplary customer service, comfortable room, and best restaurant!||This is our third trip to chiangmai, the last two we stayed in a city resort built by acclaimed Aussie architect by the Ping river. While we really enjoyed the stay at the stay, we wanted another experience within the old city for our third trip so we could walk to every historical site instead of relying on grab transport||We werent disappointed by our choice at tamarind. The boutique hotel is so convenient, yet so secluded and tranquil.||The staff were very customer focused, always finding solutions to requests instead of relying on rule based answers. Notable were front desk staff Yo, Kiki, and Toni, and every staff at the restaurant.||And the food at their Ruen restaurant! Reasonably priced for the most authentic Lana cuisine. We are vegetarian and the chef ensured we did not miss out on any dish because of our dietary restrictions. We ended up eating our dinner at the restaurant for 13 nights of our 14 nights stay. A big shout to Noot, Ken, Job, Chiang, Suradeck, Top… all restaurant staff led by the elegant Khun Ting Chai. The restaurant had live music every night, which every diner appreciated.||Housekeeping is usually the unsung hero, but a team I wanted to call out for compliment. Throughout my stay, the team never missed a single request I had for towels and toiletries...||||I had trepidation before my stay as there were constant reviews about persistent mosquitos. And yes there were mossies. but they were no more aggressive than to the mossies we experienced at the hotel by the Ping River. Asked for the mosquito repellent and all’s well.||||Six stars for this hotel experience.

I had the opportunity to stay at this hotel in June, and it was such a wonderful and memorable experience. The atmosphere was relaxing, and the location couldn’t be more perfect—right next to the Sunday Market, just outside the hotel entrance. It’s also very conveniently located near shopping malls, which made getting around even easier.||All the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Every time I passed by, no matter what time of day, they always greeted me with a genuine smile. I could tell they truly enjoy what they do, as they were always cheerful and willing to help.||The food was absolutely amazing. I kept ordering Khao Soi and Larb Moo Kua over and over during my stay—they were that good! If I ever find myself in Chiang Mai again, even if I’m not staying at the hotel, I would definitely make time—just an hour or two—just to come back and enjoy those dishes again.

I have removed a previous review as needed to update. We have had a very enjoyable stay. Our room was pretty and kept clean. Plenty of bottled water and towels, comfy bed. The grounds are beautiful and we have enjoyed good breakfast and dinner in the restaurant, I'm vegetarian and found plenty to choose from. Tofu curry was delicious. We noticed pool area needed some maintenance which staff acknowledged and resolved immediately. Staff here are attentive and do everything to give best experience. In all it has been a beautiful, well centred place to stay and we would like to stay again if we are in this area.

An exceptional stay — truly impressed! Tamarind Hotel exceeded my expectations in many ways. The room was spotless, cozy, and well-prepared, creating the perfect atmosphere for relaxation. What really stood out to me was the peaceful environment and the classy, respectful nature of the other guests — it felt like a premium experience from start to finish. The staff? Absolutely outstanding. Always greeting you with a warm smile, extremely professional, and genuinely eager to help — they made me feel welcomed and valued throughout my stay. One detail I truly appreciated was that I was allowed to fly my drone, which shows how understanding and supportive the management is of their guests’ hobbies. If I had to mention anything for improvement, it would be the limited breakfast variety and the fact that in-room dining isn't available after 10 PM. But honestly, these are minor points compared to the overall quality of the experience. This hotel is a gem. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for comfort, elegance, and top-notch hospitality. I’m definitely coming back.

This hotel is a hidden gem in the middle of the old city of Chiang Mai. Its bamboo entrance sets the tone for a relaxing visit. The rooms are tucked away in a beautiful jungle like garden. Upon entering you are greeted with warm, friendly staff who bring tea and a cool towel while you check in. Our bags were taken directly to our room, something which we are not used to in the USA! The rooms are very charming and do have AC! The calming noises of the wildlife put you right to sleep as well at night. This hotel is very zen, and romantic as well for a getaway. The breakfast is also very delicious, full of fresh fruits and Thai delicacies. I would recommend staying here as it’s in a walkable area and it is a great place to return to at the end of a long day touring.

An amazing boutique hotel in the centre of Chiang Mai. The pool and surrounding gardens make it feel like you’re out of town. |There are lots of super coffee shops and restaurants located within walking distance. The staff were very attentive and the buffet breakfast was fantastic.
