Tamayo is an up scale restaurant with a flare on Mexican cuisine. We’ve heard about Tamayo and finally decided to give it a go. The decor is nice, the staff were really nice, and the food was good but at a high price. It would be good place for date. However, I think it’s only a try only once restaurant unless you don’t mind spending money. What we got for appetizers. We got the signature salsa for $11 that came with 5 types of salsas. The different types of salsa was good, and chips were nice, and the charred tlayudas (corn tortilla toasted on a grill) was an interesting spin. It was good, but you run out of chips because they gave like 10 tortilla chips (Really?). We also got the guacamole with chips for $16. It was really good but kind of on the pricey side for guacamole. The flavor was good and the quac had some additional peppers with it. They gave plenty of chips, but I don’t think it was good enough for $16. For the entree: I got the skirt steak fajita for $28, it came out nice and sizzling hot with an amazing smell. Great presentation, but I feel like the portion size was too small. If I didn’t eat the appetizers I don’t think the fajita would have filled me up. It comes with a flour tortilla, but I had them substitute with corn tortillas instead. They provided four really small corn tortillas, which wasn’t enough. I asked for more and was charged $1.50 for four more small tortillas. I felt it was petty to charge for a few more small corn tortillas. We also got the pescado for $18 dollars. It came with three soft tacos with salsa. It was good….., but kind of fishy and we’ve had better. I think the price point was still a little too high for this entree. We ordered a side of rice and beans for $7 because it didn’t come with the entrees. There wasn’t anything special about this. Rice and beans were ok. It was good, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to go here.

Google
A must-try spot. Very welcoming, and the staff was awesome. The food was so good; the tacos were some of the best I've had in a while. We shared four orders of tacos. The pork belly guacamole was good but probably not much different from just getting the guacamole. We got the Brussels sprouts and the churros. All good; we will be coming back!

Google
Pineapple sage margarita was excellent, the chicken enchiladas were also good. The different salsas were very tasty. The guacamole was fresh and the corn chips hit the spot. Jack fruit taco were also great. The only reason for the 4 stars is the giant cockroach I saw crawling on the floor. I saw the manager take care of it and mentioned it to him so I appreciate it.

Google
This place was delicious for some good mexican food and well worth the reservation! We enjoyed their margaritas and empanadas before our meals came out. The Happy House menu was solid so make sure you take advantage of that! I can easily say that their enchiladas were great and we loved everything about this place. Wish we had room to give the fajitas a go, but maybe next time!

Google
I have been here twice for the bottomless brunch and had such a good experience both times! The service is awesome and they helped walk us through the bottomless menu and brought us just about everything to try! The drinks were good (not incredible) and they frequently came by for refills, we were never left with empty drinks as some bottles brunches go. I love bringing people here from out of town, as it’s a great experience, share style meal, in a cute area to walk around in.

Google
Good service and top notch food. We ate at this place based on a recommendation from a friend and it did not disappoint. I appreciate it the vegetarian options and the jackfruit tacos with some of the best that I've ever had. My friend had the shrimp and crab enchiladas and she loved them. Another friend has the oysters and also that was a favorite.

Google
This place has been on my list for awhile and glad to have finally made it. The staff was very friendly and this spot has a cool atmosphere. There was plenty of places to park. We came on a Monday, had a reservation, but didn't need it. The hostesses greeted me immediately and showed me to a table. We started with the Lomo empanadas, pretty good 6.9/10, the chimichurri was a bit of a let down - more oil and very few herbs. The tortilla soup was also alright, not a lot of chicken and had a strong flavor of tomatoes 7.1/10. For entrees I had the chile relleno which was very good, but a little on the small side. The sauce that was under it was the best part 8/10. My friend had the tacos which he liked a lot, he said they were a 9/10. The sides were good, Mexican corn 8.5/10, mushrooms 8.5/10 and the brussel sprouts with homeade mole were fine 8/10. For dessert we each had the churros, which tasted a little like the oil they were fried in, but paired well with the sauces 7/10. I look forward to coming back, a good place for upscale Mexican food in Denver.

Google
Absolutely loved! The food was amazing, our server, Kevin, was great, and the atmosphere is very cozy. The braised pork shank was phenomenal!! It fell off the bone. The sauce is delicious too. My husband got the steak and it was also incredible! Had the perfect amount of char and seasoned well. Also, do yourself a favor, order the churros. They are so buttery and have the perfect crunch on the outside. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I forgot how ridiculously plentiful bottomless brunch at Tamayo can be. The simple menu can be deceiving. Be sure to make reservations to get one of the coveted spots for this $50 AYCE/AYCDrink options. While there is an option for AYCE only, the entire table must partake. A la carte options are also available. Cocktails included in the bottomless brunch are traditional margaritas and mimosas or a Bloody Mary/Maria. I went the Margarita route. Margaritas were free flowing during the 2 hour table limit. Other beverages such as coffee, tea, and juice are extra. I always go to Tamayo for the chilaquiles because they are made similar to the way my grandmother would make them. Traditionally made with cut up leftover corn tortillas and simmered in a mixture of chile, Tamayo's Chilaquiles Divorciados are sliced corn tortillas simmered in both a green and red chile sauce, layered atop refried black beans, topped with crema, cotija, pickled red onion, and a sunny side up egg - delicioso! A few other not to be missed dishes are the chicken flautas with tender seasoned chicken and the pozole with a vibrant green tomatillo sauce. Bustling with energy of the efficient servers bringing plate after plate to the tables, it's easy to get caught up in wanting to order everything. Go hungry because this meal will last you all day!

Yelp
This is my first time visiting this restaurant. I went with friends, and we had a great time. Carlos was our waiter and provided excellent service; however, it would be nice if he had a smile so clients would feel a bit welcome. The food was good. I had La Tampiqueña (the meat was delicious and flavorful), and the tortilla soup was okay, but one of my friends ordered butternut Squash soup; this soup was unbelievably tasty. I have never tried a butternut squash soup that was this good ever in my life. It is a must-have next time I visit the restaurant. I will go back again ;) Cost: $$$ Hard to park!

Yelp
I've been to Tamayo a number of times over the years, and at some point I concluded it was an okay experience, but nothing overly impressive. That said, this past year I revisited the restaurant a few times, and I have to say it certainly worked its way up in my mind. First of all, if you haven't done a bottomless brunch here, I definitely recommend grabbing some friends and going for it. I did it with a large group of friends for Cinco De Mayo (and despite the understandably large crowd), it was an awesome experience. Our server was on point, and essentially just handled all of the food. We got to try pretty much everything on the food menu, in portion sizes that made sense for our table size, and we were able to order some of our favorites again. We were stuffed by the time dessert arrived, but managed to enjoy it nevertheless. It was a great experience for the price, and would probably be even better on a normal weekend. (The bottomless drinks that day were a little less ideal, but given some context from our server that undoubtedly had to do with how slammed the restaurant was.) Not long thereafter I went back with a friend for dinner before a show and we got a couple of entrees to share. We enjoyed the skirt steak combination plate (La Tamipquena) as well as the salmon dish. Both were well prepared and flavorful. I have also had the seafood enchiladas before and really enjoyed those. The chips and guac are addictive as well. I will say on a weekend with the high-ceiling acoustics it can get very loud in the space, but it's an enjoyable time. They also have valet parking (for $10 I believe), which given the surrounding area certainly makes things easier.

Yelp
My kiddo and I had a few hours to spare before heading back to the airport. We decided to stop and visit larimer square and we found Tamayo. We sat outside and we enjoyed a delicious filling lunch. It was during the bottomless brunch hours, but we were able to order a la carte. The pozole was very good. I'm typically a red pozole person but this green was delicious. My kiddo was very happy and content with the steak. If you're in the area definitely stop into Tamayo. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
My husband and I came here as part of our honeymoon and the food was spectacular! The flautas were a 10/10 and the servers were so kind. The food came out quickly and honestly the vibe in this place is amazing! My husband and I drink non alcoholic so it was super cool to see a small nonalcoholic portion of the menu and the drink he got was so good! They also said they can make any of their margaritas non alcoholic which is pretty cool!

Yelp
Bottomless brunch- don't mind if I do. Haven't been to Tamayo's brunch in a couple of years. The return was epic! For $50 you get all you can eat and drink from a preselected menu. The flautas were delicious. One order comes with 2 full flautas. The chilaquiles were divine- prepared exactly as chilaquiles should be. The crispy bacon was cooked and seasoned to perfection, the breakfast potatoes- omg so good! Finished off the meal with the bread pudding-delicious! I also imbibed in a Bloody Maria to drink and then switched to a margarita to ensure all my tastebuds were satisfied. Will definitely go back and will keep Tamayo on my top list for brunch in Denver! Heads up- if one person does bottomless brunch, everyone in your party at your table must as well. Also, you can do bottomless brunch minus the alcohol for $37.

Yelp
Happy hour is stellar! Absolutely loved the fresh fruit margaritas- especially the mango. The strawberry was good too, but the mango was more interesting. Loved the pineapple sage infused margarita as well, but the flavor was a little more subdued than the fresh fruit. We tried the carne asada and the pork carnitas tacos, and while they were good, probably not something we would come back for. The carnita was better than the carne asada. The only thing we really didn't care for was the sangria, they were a little watered down tasting for our preference. Service was excellent and I loved the mix of traditional Spanish hand carved wood and leather with more modern elements. We would absolutely come back for the margaritas again, and to try more of their menu.

Yelp
Such great food!!!! Loved the guac, corn, chicken rings enchiladas and the tamayo margaritas are fantastic!!! Highly recommend. The tamarind flavor is the perfect touch. Freshly made tortillas. Great staff and food came out quickly. Would love to go back . Also loved this location for walking around, and listening to live music after.

Yelp
Love love love this place! Their bottomless food and drink brunch is AMAZING!! Make sure to make reservations in advance tho!! The salmon is on point if you go for dinner! All their staff are super sweet! Great place to go to celebrate anything!

Yelp
Tamayo was recommended by our hotel. It was easy to get a reservation for our large group. Standouts were spicy mango margs and queso. The guacamole seemed processed with chopped veggies added. I had the mushroom tacos which were just ok IMO. Service was excellent and would like the opportunity to go back and explore more of the menu as I do think they likely have a lot of winners.

Yelp
Having walked by this restaurant several times, and seeing its look, ambience and menu decided to give them a try. I should note that Mexican style cuisine isn't among my top choices. Because of the conference I was attending, I arrived around 330pm ish and was told that I wouldn't have access to the dinner menu (because it wasn't dinner time) but I could have something from their "happy hour" menu. I must admit, I came very close to leaving but having seen their unique dessert offerings (during my research of the restaurant) and learning that I could order my dessert of choice, I thought "why not just get dessert". Along the way, I found a couple of items on the "happy hour" menu that sounded worth ordering. So while I was disappointed that I wouldn't get order what I had come there to try their happy hour menus isn't just beer and chips ! I ordered: Bacon Guacamole Ceviche 3 tacos: steak, carnitas and chicken A "sopes"-which I've never heard of let alone tried previously. And finally Tres leches for dessert. I'm super glad I stayed! I say the food here is a blend of modern, and traditional Mexican cuisine and more importantly super delicious! The bacon guacamole...I could eat that all day long without the chips. Lots of flavor and seemingly made from fresh avocados. The ceviche had amazing balance and not too acidic which is what I expect. The tacos nothing to complain about because they were so good...the "sopes" I'd describe as having a more bread like texture versus tortillas but filled with the same flavors as the steak taco. The Tres leches was a wonderful spongy cake with a kind of berry sauce...just the right sweetness and richness! Exactly what I wanted. To recap I don't know why I couldn't order from their dinner menu, a disappointment for sure... that said, strictly speaking it wasn't truly dinner time (5pm); first time that's ever happened to me...still the food, on their happy hour menu is varied and genuinely delicious...it filled me up and I walked away very satisfied. Service was good, my server had to cover a lot of ground because it was sparsely occupied at the time of my visit but got the job done. I'd recommend the happy hour menu for sure but I do wish I would have had the opportunity to try their full menu.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I were in the mood for Mexican our first night in Denver and Tamayo hit that spot. Tamayo is a more modern take on Mexican and it was perfect for us. Their cocktails were extraordinary. I ended up getting a drink from their dia de Los muertos menu and a few apps. Everything tasted fresh and hit the spot.

Yelp
I must say, I was growing disappointed in the Denver food scene, but then I stumbled upon Tamayo in the Cooke historic Larimer District. This place exceeded all of my expectations! The original margarita? Delicious! The guacamole and house made chips? Devine! Perhaps the best guac I've ever had. The Mexican chopped salad? A tangy delight that was mucho delicioso! The Mahi tacos and side of plantains? Outstanding! It was so good I almost slapped myself. And the waitress was so pleasant and friendly that it just accentuated an awesome experience. I don't know when or if I will be back in Denver, but if I find myself here again I definitely have a go-to restaurant!

Yelp
What a spectacular restaurant on one of the most beautiful streets in downtown Denver. It's on the corner of Larimer and 14th putting you right in the action of Larimer Square. They usually have live music outside in the square in weekends so if you're lucky enough to sit outside, it's a lovely experience. We tried the empanadas, carne asada tacos, al pastor pork tacos, and the Mexican corn. All items were perfectly prepared and full of complex flavors. A delight! The service was fast and friendly. The inside of the restaurant is decorated with modern and sophisticated decor and has a nice vibe. I would definitely go back to this place on my next trip to Denver!

Yelp
My husband and I came here for lunch on Labor Day hoping they would have their brunch menu but brunch is only Saturday and Sunday mornings. We got there right when the restaurant opened and got sat immediately. Their lunch menu isn't extensive so we were pretty quick to order. Food and drinks came out in a reasonable time. I had the La Tampiquena. Not a fan of beans but the waitress said it was a purée so I gave it a shot and for a person who doesn't like beans, it was pretty good. The steak and mole sauce were the best parts of the dish in my opinions. The guacamole was also delicious! My husband had the Chicken Tinga Enchiladas. He took his first bite and thought it was okay then realized he never tasted the sauce. The sauce is keeeeeey. Without it, it's just a plain enchilada. Overall would say the chicken tinga enchiladas were a solid 8/10. The restaurant itself is huge. Didn't get to see the rooftop bar but will probably be back for brunch!
google avatar

Mateo K.

Yelp
We stopped in before a play on a Sunday evening with no reservation and were seating immediately. They were busy but there was a table available. The guacamole appetizer was fresh. We shared a salad and La Tampiquena, which was delicious. The slices of carne were very tender and tasty.
google avatar

Corina E.

Yelp
We always enjoy trying the appetizers! We tried the crab guacamole and shrimp ceviche. The mahi mahi tacos were on point! It is best to make a reservation because the place is so busy! We can't wait to come back for another date night because the place was very chill.
google avatar

Olesya P.

Yelp
Came here on Saturday night for some dinner. They have nice outdoor dining but we were indoors. I would say indoors looks not as good as outdoors. I think ambience was the only thing I didn't like about this restaurant. It was kind of industrial and not very appealing. Service was great, super attentive and friendly. We kept getting our water refilled and refills for salsa and chips. We started with guacamole and salsa. Salsa was great, however guacamole was too creamy and I don't think you can request different levels of spice, it wasn't spicy at all. However it came with a big baked chip which was so good! It wasn't bad but wasn't best guacamole either. We had Mahi mahi tacos and shrimp tacos, they came on the flat plates, very nicely plated and flavors were amazing. We enjoyed them very much. So far we aren't very happy with Denver food scene, and seems like this restaurant was pretty good, better than other places we have tried.

Yelp
My visit to Tamayo left me with mixed feelings. The initial impression was a bit disappointing as it took quite some time for our waiter to greet us and bring us water. The disappointment continued with the guacamole, which lacked the expected flavor/seasoning, and the salsa was surprisingly bland. There were big chunks of avocado left and the dish lacked salt. The main course, the chicken tinga enchiladas, also failed to impress. It seemed to lack the depth of flavor I was hoping for, leaving me underwhelmed. However, the saving grace of the meal was the side of corn and the salmon dish. These were absolute delights. The flavors were vibrant and mouthwatering! The restaurant was quite loud, which made it challenging to have a conversation without shouting. Although I must say the space had good aesthetic and drew a younger crowd. While Tamayo had its ups and downs, it might be worth a visit for those who appreciate exceptional side dishes and a vibrant atmosphere!

Yelp
Located in Larimer Square, we stopped by for a late lunch/early dinner, but they were only serving happy hour, which has a decent menu. Ordered a strawberry margarita, but couldn't really taste the strawberry flavor, otherwise was good. Ordered 3 happy hour tacos - Carne Asada, Pork Carnitas, Chicken Tinga... flavors were nice, but the tortilla got soggy fast and broke apart. Ambiance was nice with indoor and outdoor seating and the waitress was friendly, solid service. The dinner menu was a bit pricey but expected from a touristy area... the happy hour menu was surprisingly fairly priced. Food is probably a 3.5 star, but I'll round up for ambiance and service which are 4-4.5.
google avatar

Robert S.

Yelp
We stopped here for some light bites and we were glad we did. The service was very friendly and attentive. We got some chips and salsa as well as some chicken flautas....the latter, one of the best flautas I've had. The wrapper was lightly fried and very thin and crispy. The chicken was moist and well seasoned. The chips came with a nice green salsa that was spicy, but not too spicy. Overall a nice experience. The place is very big with two different dining area in addition to the bar. Located in Larimer Square, it's a nice place to get some Mexican fare.
google avatar

Noah K.

Yelp
Enchiladas were a bit muted. Quesadilla appetizer was more like an empanada. Restaurant was very busy, and service wasn't the best as a result.
google avatar

Jeff D.

Yelp
Tamayo is an excellent spot for upscale Mexican food in Denver. It has a really solid selection of drinks at the bar, and maintains a simple & straightforward menu. In stark contrast to other Mexican restaurants where you can get lost in the deluge of the 10 page menu, Tamayo's single sheet approach is greatly appreciated. The drinks are made well, and the food really lives up to your expectations of a place of this caliber as well! I'd definitely recommend the enchiladas, and try out an app while you're in too (we had the empanadas and they were solid). An added bonus: reservations! Tamayo allows you to make reservations and that really does streamline the whole process. Overall, if you're looking for a good spot for a nice evening out or date night, definitely give Tamayo a try!

Yelp
Went here three times in a week for different parties: twice on the rooftop terrace for "stand-up" meals and once on the first floor for a sit-down dinner. The food was great, especially the mahi-mahi tacos, and you can get a good view of the Larimer street from the rooftop terrace. The service was speedy and friendly, and our big group got the meals faster than I expected.

Yelp
I love this place! Last weekend was our second time trying bottomless brunch and it is amazing! My boyfriend does it with alcohol which is $50. I do without which is $39. But I also get coffee and orange juice which I think are $4 each, so price turns out about the same. We started with bacon, potatoes, plantains, and the fruit bowl and inhaled it all. Then we did the salad and flautas. Then we ordered more bacon and more flautas because it's so delicious. Then we went with the huevos motulenos and the chicken tinga tacos. Fantastic. We thought we were finishing so we went with the pan Dulce. Then the chocolate ice cream. But then my boyfriend somehow got hungry again and had the chicken enchilada. Throughout the meal our server kept my coffee full, and I think my boyfriend had about three or four mimosas then two or three margaritas. There is a two hour time limit, but we only took an hour and a half and ate a ton! Love it!

Yelp
Came here with a huge party of 13 hungry people and they were able to accommodate perfectly. Heads up tho, we did make a reservation beforehand to make sure we secured a table. Chips and salsa were included for the whole table :D Drinks: STRAWBERRY BASIL MARGARITA -- def recommend. Some places make their margaritas too sweet and make you feel like there wasn't any alcohol in it, or vice versa, but this one is the perfect flavor combination. I'd love to come back and try their other options! Food: TRADITIONAL GUACAMOLE -- FRESH ANDDD REFRESHING. From the very first bite, you can taste that they've perfected this staple appetizer. The housemade chips are the cherry on top, providing a perfectly crunchy and thin vehicle for the guac. SMOKED CRAB GUACAMOLE -- my friends and i honestly thought this would be a gimmick but still decided to try it out cause it's not something you see often. And we're SO GLAD we did!! Chef's kiss. I'm not even a big crab person but it worked soooo well with the guac. Just as refreshing as the traditional, but with a couple extra layers of flavor (1 layer for the crab, and another for it being smoked lol). 10/10 would recommend. Also perfect for sharing among 4-5 people as there's a pretty good amount. LOMO EMPANADAS -- sooo cheesy and delicious. They also came with a side of chimichurri and a spicy red sauce (unsure if that's the creamy guarjillo). I assumed the almonds included in the filling would be crushed/worked into smaller pieces, but there were pretty large pieces of almonds in there lol. You can actually smell the almonds once you cut into the empanada. It took me by surprise but i appreciate that it was something new & different. Still undecided if I prefer them in large pieces or not.

Yelp
We went to Tamayo on a Wednesday night and really enjoyed our experience. The attention to detail from the staff was top notch. Our water glasses were refilled promptly and plates taken away quickly. The food was okay, but I felt my dish was definitely lacking something. My fiancée had the chicken & steak fajitas which were plated great and tasted delicious. I had a spicy shrimp dish that I wasn't expecting to come as it did. The flavors were good but it was a bit cumbersome to try to figure out how to eat the dish. The restaurant itself is super cute and had a lot of nice colors and natural light. It was pretty busy but they did well at tending to us and getting the food out timely. I would probably go back and try the tacos, but I wasn't too impressed with my dish.

Yelp
I've done bottomless brunch here twice now and it really is good. They have a large menu and you can either sit back and let your server course it out or you can pick your own dishes which id recommend if you're not looking to dilly dally with fruit plates and potatoes (not to say these aren't delightful because they really are). $50 for two hours all you can eat & drink works for me especially given the fact that two cocktails already puts you halfway there on the price. Service and ambiance are wonderful - we sat outside this time and enjoyed the lovely weather. The plantains are amazing - not enough places have them so i'm always excited to see this on a menu. The flautas are served with some of the prettiest bright pink pickled red onions that make the dish one of my faves. Tacos are great too!! For the dessert portion I loveeee the pan dulche which is essentially a Mexican french toast it's so tasty. Only complaint it the food comes out somewhat room temp - I wouldn't say anything we got was hot or even really warm but hey it's all you can eat and you get what you get. Such a fun spot and fun way of dining and really getting to try a little bit of everything.

Yelp
We had high hopes visiting Tamayo for dinner after looking at the menu and some photos prior to visiting. The food did not let us down and I would love to give 3.5 stars here if possible. Upon arrival, though, we were unfortunately not greeted by the hostess, and waited a moment before she turned to say something to us. She seemed distracted and unhappy, taking longer than I would expect to even seat us given it was an early dinner with plenty of open tables. Fortunately, our server was great(I really wish I wrote his name down for a shout-out!), making us and consistently checking-in during our dinner. I highly recommend the Queso Fundidio which comes on a large, hot skillet plate to scoop off of - holy queso!!! We chose the Camarones al Chipotle and Skirt Steak Fajitas as our entrees. Both of which were drool-inducing dishes just oozing with flavor. I definitely want to highlight the skirt steak which was cooked just right, ready to melt upon bite. We will surely return and I hope to raise this to 4 stars after another visit!

Yelp
Tamayo was a great spot to check out especially before a play at the Denver Performing Arts Center. You get a free house margarita if you save the coupon in the back of the DPAC Playbill from each show. It's an added treat. The food is good. I never like to pay extra for chips and salsa but they were good. Overall a good spot to check out. The service was good/quick and the ambiance is top notch. Great for a friend's meetup!

Yelp
Have you been to Tamayo for dinner?I've been to brunch but never for dinner. If you haven't been dinner is where it's at. Vibe is everything. Here it changes from fun in the morning to an almost imperceptible elegance and low-key romantic one at night. The bar has an old-world charm under the soft light. I'm telling you, Tamayo at night surprised me. And that was even before I started drinking! It's a date spot! The food! Wow! Made me wish I did dinner sooner! 1. We started with their Red Snapper Ceviche -My New fave ceviche in town! That bowl just keeps on giving! Def to share! Dig in! 2. Fresh Guac and warm freshly made warm chips are so good. It should come with a warning! Entrees: 1. La Tampiquena. It's grilled skirt steak -Meat served sliced. Superb taste! I will order this anytime! 2. Carnitas-tamarind marinated pork tenderloin-outstanding dish. The tenderest marinated pork is steeped in flavor! It's impossible to let go of this dish. This is a popular dish. 3. Desert. Tres Leches bread pudding. Outstanding way to end the night! This desert is wonderful! For cocktails we had the following: Pure Guava & Ancho Chile Margarita, Aphrodite Margarita, and El Oso. Boozy and so good! You can't go wrong with any of them. The latter is Bourbon based & my fave just because I love bourbon. Our dinner was outstanding. The staff was top-notch. Our server C.J was the epitome of a casually seasoned team member. There when you need him, not when you don't! Our night coming from this dinner was so relaxing! Everything was planned and coordinated well--a worry-free experience. I'm so impressed with this 17-year-old establishment!

Yelp
I work downtown near Larimer square and this is our go to spot for great tacos, the best guacamole and amazing margaritas! Service is always fabulous and it's a great atmosphere.

Yelp
We came here for a midday light lunch during their happy hour on a Saturday. We ended up getting the chips and guac, and a variety of their tacos. The chips and guac were pretty standard. The chips were thin and crispy and the guac tasted freshly made. I also really liked their salsa. The tacos on the other hand were very salty, specifically the carnitas. The slaw on top was refreshing but didn't help to aid the saltiness.

Yelp
Tamayo is a tasty option for upscale Mexican dining in the LoDo area of Denver. We had reservations for our party of 10 so we were seated immediately. The service was prompt, attentive and friendly. The food was a bit mixed. Drinks are disappointing, because they don't do their own juice. However, they have a decent wine selection. The guacamole was excellent as were the chips and salsa whereas the queso was pretty dull and the accompanying tortillas were tough. The chicken tinga enchiladas were fantastic while the shrimp enchiladas were dull. The pastor tacos were fantastic but the carnitas were dry. The coffee ice cream was great but the churros were tough. I was disappointed as I read about this restaurant in American Tacos: A History and Guide, but it did not live up to the hype.

Yelp
Located in Larimer Square and dining outside when the weather is great is hard to beat! The service here was also great, but that's just about where the good things stop for this restaurant. We ordered the carnitas plate and shrimp enchiladas. The carnitas plate came with a few slices of pork belly that were harder than a piece of card board, which rendered it practically inedible. The carnitas itself were okay. The shrimp enchiladas came with shrimp that tasted old/about to go bad and we could definitely tell they were frozen. We also ordered the queso fundido which was good, but it was a ~$6 charge for the "chorizo" that was added?! We are fine with paying a steep price, as long as it warrants the food provided but it was borderline ridiculous. Plenty of other options in the square to choose from.

Yelp
Great place to dine. In Larimer square- a little double whammy. We got to enjoy these great eats and then enjoy the Larimer square scene. Great service, chips and salsa, fresh guacamole and loved the entree presentations and flavor.

Yelp
Great Mexican tapas and drinks in Denver on the corner of Larimer Square. Came in for a later dinner and enjoyed all of our dishes, lots to try. 10/10.

Yelp
Excellent service, starting from the gentleman who took my call and gave me a reservation despite a busy evening. Cool ambiance in the middle of historic Larimer Square, nice decor. Our waiter was professional and attentive. Food was delectable and beautifully presented! Highly recommend.

Yelp
Get yourself to this bottomless brunch! I am a sucker for the plantains and bacon, and I could probably do brunch with just that and the mimosas -- but the dishes here are pretty solid. Not too spicy, not too boring, just right for a $46 all-you-can-eat-in-two-hours. We like to get the flautas and enchiladas as well as all the desserts. Bring your appetite. And be kind! The staff here are so attentive and wonderful. They were quick to clear dishes and refill our drinks. Lastly, get yourself a reservation. It's definitely busy. I've always been able to chat with my group, but it does get a smidge noisy.

Yelp
Meh. I've had better. Great service and the food was fine. I wasn't particularly impressed. It was good. Great service though! John was excellent. Again, this place wasn't bad.

Yelp
Seven of us came for a dinner during a conference. It was certainly a busy place, especially for a Tuesday night. We started with some Crispy Calamari to share. Wonderful spice and delicious. Highly recommend. Next we ordered the Chicken Enchiladas. Some of the best I have had. This was served with a Spicy Mango Margarita. All very good. The servers were excellent and the night was enjoyed by all.

Yelp
A friend suggested Tamayo for dinner while we were traveling in Denver. We got guacamole to share and I got the seafood chili relleno (it's an app but there was enough for a meal). I live in a place with some of the absolute best Mexican food and have not had the best celebrity chef experiences, so my expectations were not high, but man, this was some good food. Not entirely sure what the sauces were under the chili other than the refried beans, but after mopping up what I could with chips, I rather seriously considered licking the plate. Service was great too. I was on the boarder of too full and passed on dessert--I have some regrets here. I also want to say the price point for this quality of food was very reasonable. I would have fully expected to pay twice as much in my home city. For a drinks, an app, and two entrees our bill with tip was around $75. Extra points for having a Mexican NA beer. Would recommend a reservation.

Yelp
I ate here for dinner while visiting the area for work. This place has the best service. I was immediately seated by the very friendly hostess and the server checked in on me regularly during my meal. The manager also stopped by to check in on me. I appreciated this because my water was never empty and I was in and out. I ordered the chicken tinga enchiladas and they were good. Definitely on the spicier side so if you're not a fan of spicy food you might not like this. I also ordered a side of plantains and they were good too. The cocktail menu was impressive and I really wanted to try one of each. I was also impressed by the tequila list. Again, something else I wanted to dig into but decided I probably shouldn't. All in all it was a good experience. The enchiladas were too spicy for me but I'm happy I ordered the plantains because the sweet added some balance.

Yelp
I had such high hopes for this place as it's been on my list for literally years. We've been trying to get in on the patio for years, and every time we try, it's booked for a private party. But we went ahead and made reservations for the restaurant hoping that just maybe the patio would be open. It was not, sadly. The regular restaurant part was cute, though...definitely a pleasant atmosphere. And our server was great. We had a mixup with our drinks (my husband's beer somehow ended up with the salt from my margarita, ha - not her fault!) and she comped us some chips and salsa that were pretty good. But food-wise, just okay for me. I guess had I not had any expectations, I might have rated it higher, but I think it was a pretty solid mediocre for me. Not bad, for sure - just not what I was expecting!

Yelp
Bottomless brunch on Saturday is the way to go! Our table was able to order a bit of everything, which was a really fun and delicious way to experience all of the specials and flavors offered by the restaurant. Don't skip the bread pudding! We ordered two :)

Yelp
Tamayo is a staple restaurant in Denver's Larimer Square & one of the best spots for innovative Mexican plates. We arrived and were seated in a booth in the main dining room, adjacent to the bar. The aesthetic of the restaurant was lively and buzzing with cantina styled seating and a large Mexican inspired mural behind the bar. Our server Asa was attentive and quick with service. General Managers, Scott & Peter were active on the restaurant floor assisting customers & staff throughout the duration of our meal. To start I had the Spicy Mango Margarita made with serrano-infused tequila, citrus, mango purée, and a tajin rim. This margarita was bursting with tropical mango flavor and packed some serious heat; I loved it. For Guacamole we had the Tuna Guac made with chili morita ponzu, sesame seeds, jicama cilantro, and pickled fresno. The Tuna Guacamole was phenomenal - there were generous pieces of fresh tuna throughout. Each bite of guac held that freshness and was overall light on the palate. The perfect appetizer for spring and summer. For Antojtos we had the Queso Fundido and the Red Snapper Ceviche. The Queso Fundido was made with melted cheese, chili morita salsa, and the addition of chorizo. The queso came to the table bubbling hot in a skillet. The cheese was thick making for epic cheese pulls. The chorizo added meaty texture and spice to the queso. The Red Snapper Ceviche was made with mango-habanero, red onion, radish, chili pasilla powder, and garlic olive oil. The ceviche burst forth with strong acidity that tingled on the tongue. The red snapper tempered the acidity with its meatiness & chew. For our Especial mains we had the Camarones al Chipotle & the Chile Relleno. The Camarones al Chipotle were made with tequila flambéed shrimp, corn masa huarache, house blend cheese, black bean purée, and chipotle cheese sauce. The flambéed shrimp were juicy and generously coated in thick, creamy chipotle sauce. The chipotle sauce added subtle heat to the dish. The Chile Relleno was made with poblano chili, pork-chorizo picadillo, sweet plantain, and chile pasilla salsa. The relleno was packed with bold Mexican flavor and stuffed to the hilt with hearty pork-chorizo. The poblano had a gentle warm, spice that was complemented by the savory pork & cheese. For sides we had the Mexican Corn on the Cob. The corn cob came in a pair of two and were served street style on sticks,. The grilled corn was covered in creamy aioli and dusted in cotija cheese - so good. For Postres (dessert) we had the Empanadas de Platano made with bananas, walnut cream, cinnamon, sugar, coconut ice cream, and crème anglaise. These delicious plantain empanadas were the perfect sweet ending to our meal. The pastry bread had a crisp, flakey exterior that was coated in cinnamon sugar. The easy taste of banana went beautifully with the tropical coconut ice cream.

Yelp
First off, such a great atmosphere. A little loud as is people talking but expected. Service was super fast. Place was packed but still got us right in. Service is wonderful, my water glass never made it to empty. Ordered the carne Asada tacos and they were AMAZING. Table was cleared quick, prices aren't too bad. All around GREAT experience. Will do again if I'm in town.

Yelp
So far so good! Found this Mexican place on Yelp while walking from Union Station to my hotel in a pouring rain storm. Nothing like a cross country flight to work up an appetite. Seemed like a good first stop on my Denver trip. Started with a Sangria Rojo and followed that with a pineapple margarita. They were still in happy hour so I started with ordering the majority of food from that menu; queso fundido, carne asada taco and chicken Tinga taco with salsa and chips, After indulging in the first 2 courses I finished it off with 2 ears of Mexican street corn on the cob. Great meal. Shelby provided great service and good drinks. I sat at the bar and there was a somewhat lively crowd enjoying their happy hour margaritas salsa and chips. I highly recommend Tamayo it you enjoy traditional Mexican food with a local flavor. Cheers!

Yelp
The vibe of this restaurant is really welcoming to all ages and any time of the day. Service was really tentative and its mainly first come first serve. The foods on the other hand did not match the expectations of the restaurant. My tamayo margarita supposed to have tamarind in it, but it tasted like a regular margarita. Second disappointment is the house salsas. Virtually no seasoning to taste but a lot of smells if you know what I mean. The highlight was the al pastor tacos. Its hard to mess up al pastor. 10/10 Would only try this place once or twice. You're paying $18 for 3 mini tacos that doesnt come with any other sides.
