Tampopo Ramen

Excellent choice! I finally stopped walking by/wondering and curious…I’ll be back! Don’t delay, go eat there. I had a lunch special and it was delicious. Started off with a nice friendly welcome and concluded with a good price! YUM

The food was delicious, I had the miso ramen and the matcha cheesecake. The broth got lukewarm quickly, so I had it fast. My friend had the shio classic ramen with pork and the hot chili oil on the side. Overall it was delicious. Thanks, kitchen team. Service could have been more hospitable, more attentive. I get it, I work in the industry myself, but the way you chat it up in the back with your friends with a smile, is the way you should act on the floor with your customers. As soon as we walked in, we waited for someone to say hello, but understandably that took a minute since one person was taking orders. I thought there was one girl but I think there were like three girls working on the floor. Anyway, after they cleaned the area they just dropped the menu on the counter with no regard for a welcome. When it came to ordering it felt more like give them an order quickly or I won’t be back for ten minutes. Luckily it was a small order. When it came time for the bill, the toast handheld was left in front of us, and one of the girls walked away. My friend and I decided to split it. I know how to use a Toast handheld, so I did it myself, but not everyone will know. Just a friendly advice to be more proactive and pay attention to the small details. It goes a long way.

Excellent spot. The place is small, but totally worth it. They have counter seating right in front of the kitchen, so you can watch them cooking. I tried the spicy miso ramen and it was amazing — broth on point, perfect portion, and a reasonable price. Definitely a place to return to, even as your first stop when you arrive in NYC.

Had brunch with a good friend, we both had meal sets with happy hour drinks and dessert! Came out to about $48 each, and the sake cup with the panda design is free to take back home! This is the best, authentic izakaya-style Japanese restaurant in Washington Heights. Music wasn’t too loud but still contributed to the good vibes. Shout out to our server Peter!

The mini-sized ramen set was satisfying and well put together. I wanted more dumplings, so I ordered another one. I think I’ll be craving that ale beer again, too.

My partner and I love this place for it’s authenticity. The food is very fresh and ridiculously delicious. I love they included a new combo of a mini ramen bowl. Our recommendation will be that the place should upgrade to a bigger spot because it feels very overwhelming when its full and there are other people waiting inside for a spots to be available.

Its a small location, but its got a vibe! The staff were nice. The floor is a bit uneven, bur thats typical of hole in the wall NYac restaurants. Not complaining, though. Several vegetarian/vegan options. Loved it

There’s a ton of ramen spots in NYC. But this one is FIRE🔥everything from the appetizer to the entrees and their home made ginger ale goes well with a spicy bowl of ramen ! I got the spiciest ramen I think it had dragon in its name and my girl got the spicy miso ramen…definitely recommend! Try their fried chicken and pan seared pork and veggie dumplings too! This spot was a solid 10 for me 😭

Was quite surprised to stumble upon a ramen place like this in Washington Heights. Of most the ramen places in the area, I would say this may have been one of the better ones I had the opportunity to try. There is not a lot of seating and it's quite a small restaurant. There are about 10 or so bar seats available for people planning on eating here so it's not the best place for groups. The service was quite fast. It's a very streamlined place with quick service. There was only one person managing all the dine in services and he was quite nice. I ordered a mini spicy miso ramen combo with pork gyoza and was a big fan of the idea of mini ramen combos. I feel like ramen bowls are quite filling and expensive alone I tend to feel guilty about ordering an appetizer but this avoided that for me. Of the ramen I have had in Washington heights this is definitely on the better tasting end. They only provided 3 pork gyozas which I evaporated quite fast. I feel like the chicken karage is a better option for the mini ramen combos. It was relatively inexpensive and was quite fast to come out, the meal was done within an hour. I would recommend this place to the crowd of folks craving ramen this far north in Manhattan.

Simple, but effective bowl of ramen in a bit of a sketchy neighborhood. I walked out and really saw some unsightly people doing unsightly in the streets as I walking to the subway to get home. Okay, enough of that. This is about this little ramen bar that looks straight out of Tokyo. I have never been to Tokyo (it is in the cards for any of you that is following my travels), but from what I have researched, close enough. The ramen and food as a whole is tasty, but pricey. It comes with plenty of noodles (get extra), and a flavorful broth. The chashu pork is grilled and charred perfectly. I really enjoyed the bao buns here. Two to an order but they work well. I did not like the service here. It is aloof and fairly unfriendly. My server seemed to have that, "I wish I were anywhere but here right now" name tag and was more interested in flirting with the kitchen staff than catering to my needs. The music playing in the background about songs concerning heart attacks, for a meal that is notoriously high in salt content, was fairly disconcerting. Maybe do not play that when you know the food you are serving. Just saying. Poor choice. I made this venture to Washington Heights and now I can say with confidence that I will not be returning despite the tasty food. Everything else just did not do it for me.

Very clean environment ,entertaining to watch the chefs cook like a habachi ,grate amount of water they offer per group .hard working chefs ,I love the little bit of culture art works on the walls to represent they Heritage.the food looks wonderful just as expected the flavor of the food and the fresh vegetables they use is just mouth watering the spice is hot thank you the stew is so rich the pork was lil too chewy almost choked that's bad.so much food to keep you full for days

Let me tell you, this hole in the wall shop can take my money any day of the week now. I came in here looking for some good ramen in the upper part of Manhattan. I was happily surprised when I saw a spot that had great reviews. When I arrived, I was surprised by how small it was. I got there and had to wait (which in my mind was a good sign). I waited about 20 minutes to get a seat for 2. Note that these are all like "bar" seating with about 10 seats across the entire venue. I grabbed the menu and immediately ordered a beer and dumplings as an appetizer. I enjoyed them both. Next came the Ramen. I got the Spicy Miso Ramen. I thoroughly enjoyed this and actually asked from chili flakes on the side to make it spicier (it could've used more of a kick). Was super happy with the food, the quick service and the ambiance. Already have come back once and will make another review about that experience, but want to come back to eat more for sure!

The food was flavorful and very good. The ramen was perfect and the best I have ever had. The service was also good and the ambience.

I was in the area and needed a calm place to get some work done while grabbing a bite to eat. The Enter The Dragon ramen was pretty good though not as spicy as I expected. Overall I liked Tampopo and I'd come back and try something else.

(2019) Ramen was pretty good, but the Okonomiyaki was hard The place was cute, went during the non-peak hours so I was the only customer, but the staff kept disappearing. I had to wait for so so long after I finished eating just to get my bill since the staff were missing

The ramen was really good. Not many options in terms of regular drinks but overall pretty decent for a ramen spot in new york that isn't downtown manhattan. The server was very sweet as well!

Went around 2pm on Sunday and got seated relatively quick with one other person. Nice and cozy spot with good service and good. The bao buns with homemade chili oil were delicious. Ramen was hearty and had good taste too. Solid food for the cost.

Food was reasonably priced and delicious! Their spicy miso ramen is always a good choice. Lunch at Tampopo is a must go, with their lunch special ramen, side, and a drink for under $20. The inside serves as a little hole-in-the-wall and the service is excellent. You can see them make your food through the window while sitting at the bar. I recommend!

Personally I think this style of dining is perfect for Japanese street food. I just wanna eat some yummy food and drink a beer and head out. I came on a Sunday night and had to wait maybe 5 or 10 minutes before a spot opened up. Service was friendly and fast. I got the chicken donburi and a Sapporo. It was fine but I didn't love that the chicken don came with quite a lot of mushrooms, and the nori was very thick slices (I think it's better with little tiny shreds so you get the taste without the texture). I wish they did a don with egg and chicken, and also a katsu don (my fav!). I love the yummy hi chew that comes with the bill.

My dish was delicious. I use to get the veggie miso ramen and that is delicious. But I had the yaki soba and I'm very pleased with this dish. I highly recommend it. The service is great. The restaurant calls you to make sure your order is right. They are very nice and the delivery person is kind too.

Small, intimate, casual restaurant with quick service. There aren't a lot of seatings so it may not be ideal for big parties. The decor is pretty typical for a ramen restaurant. The menu is also pretty standard for a ramen restaurant with all the popular ramen options, some appetizers, and rice bowls. The ramen is good but not amazing, the noodles have a good chew to them and meat in tender, although I felt that the broth was salty without enough complexity of flavor. This is a good option if you live in the neighborhood and are craving ramen. This is one out of two ramen spot in the entire Washington heights neighborhood.

Simple. Quick. No frills. It's easy and convenient. Won't ever blow your mind away but never disappoints. Just average Raman spot in a Dominican neighborhood with all Spanish men cooking ramen.

Tampopo was recommended by a friend of mine who also loved ramen. Maybe we came on a busy day, they had us waiting over 30minutes, standing by the door and having to move every time someone came in to pick up an order. After standing there, I also believe that they have a huge clientele on delivery orders. The place is very cozy, but the service was slow. Some plates were delicious, some didn't live up to my standards, based on my friend's. Once again, I came with my bf and my (fan lover of ramen) mother... we shared appetizers: Steamed (pork) bao buns, Pan fried gyoza dumplings and Fried pork katsu. For entree I had Shoyu ramen with chicken karaage added on, my mom had Shio classic ramen, and my bf had the Spicy miso ramen with pork katsu added on. We LOVED the appetizers, every single one was super tasteful and different in flavor, but we were mind blown by the deliciousness of each appetizer choice!! The ramen were not as we expected... the eggs were so cold, we couldn't even eat them, my broth was salty, my mom's broth choice lacked on flavor, they took so long but our ramen didn't feel or taste like it was freshly made, only some components, like the add ons, but that's that. I would definitely come back to try more of their appetizers, try their rices and maybe their stir fry. But for sure wouldn't come back if I craved ramen only, not my first choice for it.

Food is delicious and the preparation is pretty quick too! I like the Donburi bowl, but other dishes are good too.

Not great. I was here for an early dinner and was able to grab a table outside. We had some appetizers and a couple of ramen dishes, and found what we ordered to be rather mediocre. Except for the seaweed salad, we ordered pork in every dish, and I guess this was our mistake. The meat wasn't even warm, looked old and tasted as such. Seaweed salad: ok. Pork buns: very well dressed, but the pork was barely warm. Spicy miso ramen: even after mixing the ingredients, the broth was very weak and not that spicy. The pork was old and the whole dish lacked flavor and personality. Ramen always comes burning hot, but not this one... It was barely warm. Quite frankly, it tasted like I'd tried to prepare it myself at home. I hate to sound such a downer, but this was one of the least appealing ramen I've ever had. Yaki ramen hakata style: same issue with the pork, although very generous in portion. The rest of the ingredients didn't particularly enrich the flavor of the dish. The whole concoction was uninspiring. Overall, the server was welcoming and accommodating. The food came rather quickly. The place looked clean. However, the food was the problem, and it left me with no reason to go back.

Tampopo Ramen never fails on food but I had the most unpleasant experience in the restaurant today. Apparently my order of a Mini Donburi Rice Bowl wasn't enough, so the server maybe the co-owner tried very hard to upsell me on 4 different occasions in the span of less than 1/2 hour. First he asked if I wanted to add sake to my order, then came back to offer kaarage chicken, returned to see if I wanted to order buns and finally at the end of my meal asked if I wanted to "order more food since you're probably still hungry". WTH ? There's a fine line between doing your job in a very well crafted upsell and being outright pushy and obnoxious. That line was most definitely crossed today. On another note, the space is not being kept to eat-in standards, with chipped paint on the walls and an unsightly chrome rack housing delivery orders where tables once stood. Tampopo reduced to Chinese takeout? I think so. Needless to say if you're craving Tampopo Ramen might be best to have it delivered.

Really small restaurant with only counter seating so it's not ideal for larger parties. I had came with a group of 8 and we were fortunate to come during a slower time so there was space for us. I ordered the miso ramen which wasn't amazing but not bad either. Overall, it tasted a bit weird to me, especially the egg. They were generous with the meat. Food came out pretty fast. The server was accommodating and let us split the check the way we wanted. He was really attentive!

We really enjoyed our visit here! We were pretty hungry so ordered the fried pork lunch special as appitizer, and spicy miso and enter the dragon ramen. The fried pork is excellent! My husband enjoyed it a lot! The small dishes, seaweed salad, mushroom and tofu, are enjoyable too. Their brooth is creay and thick. My husband was well pleased with the spicy miso, and I loved the enter the dragon, which is spicy and filled with flavors. The beer special was a great deal. $3 for a ginger beer Though I usually don't like beer in general and my husband normallu doesn't like sweet beer, we both enjoyed this one!

The gyozas (spicy beef) and the pork bao buns were delicious!!! The server was quick and efficient. She even gave me a hi-chew with my check. Hi-chews are one of my top 5 favorite chewy candy's. It's kind of divey but well worth it.

This is a cute small ramen spot in Washington Heights, if not the only ramen spot in this neighborhood. I got the spicy miso ramen which was relatively ok. It tasted a little bland, but it was overall decent. The karaage was quite unique and it tasted really good! My only tidbit was that I wished they didn't pour the spicy ailoi sauce on top of the chicken - I would prefer to choose how much sauce I want to dip with the chicken. Service is very friendly. However, I don't see myself coming back again considering how many other ramen stores are out there that sells much better ramen. However, considering this neighborhood isn't much of one that specialized in ramen, it is quite good.

One of my fav ramen places in the heights, I always get the veggie miso ramen, the broth is really creamy and they loaded with tons of veggies including shiitake mushrooms it's very filling, vegetable gyozas also really good. They have friendly and fast service. It's a well decorated hole in wall kind of classic ramen bar ambience would come here any chance I get!

Alas, they are 2 for 2 in mistakes in what was supposed to be a vegan order. The first time, they included mayo and the second time, they included an egg -- both in dishes they assured me were vegan. I think it is otherwise decent food, and although their intent is to be vegan friendly, they are not so aware nor attentive.

This is hands down the best ramen in Washington Heights. The enter the dragon is super spicy and delicious!! The delivery service is fast and efficient!!!

Lovely dinner experience! I got their seasonal udon which was kind of yuzu miso pork udon (not sure what it actually is) but it was delicious. A more than big enough portion for me. Service wise, lovely nice servers! Even though the restaurant was bustling (it was so popular), waiters were so nice and patient! Great music as well! Definitely want to come back to try the other dishes!

Excellent chicken based broth, some veggie as well No tonkotsu, that was missing for us. But it's a small place so prob limited space to make it. Good selection of toppings and additions (about 10 including mushrooms, spicy oil, etc). Quick and efficient service and location was close to where we're staying. Would def go back.

Our family LOVES the food here. None of us are ramen experts, but we have taken friends who are, and they concur that the food is TOP NOTCH. We mostly order in. The delivery is ALWAYS faster than the estimated time. And is always still hot. (In the 3+ years we have been ordering from them, we have only had two mistakes, and both times, the problem was solved quickly and to our satisfaction.) Eating at the restaurant is fun in the warmer weather, as they have a fun outdoor seating shed. Inside is small, we have never tried to eat inside. Our fave ramens are Classic Shio and Enter The Dragon. big fan of their chicken appetizer too!

This was such a great addition to our restaurant deficient neighborhood. Went there last night. I get it. They're making most of their money on delivery. Good for them I wish them well and every success. But the delivery side has really cut into the quality of the experience at the restaurant. Delivery people are in an out constantly and cold air blows right in. The vinyl windows to the temporary vestibule are not secured so the wind blows right in. It's cold and uncomfortable. They've taken tables out to make space for the delivery. Now it's just a bar setting, which makes it hard to talk if you're more than 2. There is only space for about 12 people inside and yet the service forgot one of the items we ordered. The place is in need of a paint job. The ramen was decent but not as good as I remembered, and it was not steaming hot and got cold quickly. Delivery has been the downfall of many good restaurants. I hope they can work this out. Especially because I wouldn't order ramen for delivery, it's just not conducive to hold its quality in the delivery process.

No complaints about their ramen. They have good service and tasty ramen. The spicy karage wasn't my favorite but only because they drenched the chicken in the sauce. Overall I enjoyed this place.

Haven't been there in a while, but this used to be my go to. In house Ginger soda and yummy bowl of ramen. Very close to the cloisters Gr8 day visit.

...this place... Um...as I write this I'm trying to be rational and not let my emotions get this best of me as I write this review to not be biased. Ramen is subpar. I'm not sure if the people reviewing this place never really experienced true authentic ramen....but this place is not it. So disappointed. The area is not appealing but that can't be helped. It's a hole in the wall which isn't a bad thing but just be prepared if you were thinking of coming. More of a order out place. The service is nice. Didn't have any issues there. But the food? The food...oh man. I am a ramen connoisseur(self proclaimed) however, for those who reviewed this place and suggested this was ramen. Please explore the culture and fine cuisine that is ramen. This tasted like thawed out soup. The pork chashu was tasteless. The broth tasted like a thick creamy cup of noodles. I'm so disappointed in this place.the chicken tasted like it was thawed out microwaveable chicken you buy from Trader Joe's that's pre season and they tried to pass it off into the ramen. It really felt like I had microwaved soup. Whoever is the owner maybe when you first opened this place it started out good but you need to come back and revisit your chefs and kitchen. This is def not authentic. I feel bad because the community it's in might possibly enjoy this, but I'm afraid I'm not sure if it's because they've never tried true ramen before or what. Idk don't wanna assume. But no. So so disappointed. Would not recommend.

Can I just say this was great hangover food haha. The place is small and has both bar & outdoor seating. I came here with a few friends on a Saturday at around noon and we pushed some tables together. The decor is cute with a bunch of empty sake bottles lined up. The food here was delicious my only problem was the service. Our server was sweet and polite but he took a really long time for just about everything. Greeting us took more than 5 minutes and we were the only ones sitting inside. We finished eating so our server cleared our plates but never came back with the bill. We had to flag him down, then when we put our credit card down it took another 10 minutes for him to come around to take it. We got a few starters. The seaweed salad was cool, refreshing, and crunchy. The homemade ginger ale has a very gingery taste so if that's not your thing don't order it haha. I really loved my matcha iced green tea, the flavor wasn't too overpowering. My gyudon bowl had the right amount of seasoning and the correct ratio of rice to beef. My boyfriend also enjoyed his ginger ramen. The ramen here comes with so much noodle! Normally at other restaurants you don't get that much but here it is filled to the brim. Will probably come back here again if we have a ramen craving.

Just updating my 5 star review with some more pics. The food here is always so warm and comforting--especially on a cold or rainy day. I always recommend this local gem in the neighborhood!

The Enter The Dragon Ramen is the BEST! Also the over pour Sake is very nice. I love this place!

Simply the best Asian bowl of soup I've had. Noodles, the best tasting broth, veggies and of course, fast friendly service! One excellent excellent Miso Ramen...one happy customer! I highly recommend it, mmm!

Amazing ramen we drove down from Riverdale to pick up ramen on Sunday during the crazy rain storm that tells you it's a great place we ordered on Door Dash but we used the pickup

It was my first time visiting today, and I ordered the Tan Tan. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the dish was the perfect portion and it hit the spot!

Love this place! In my humble opinion it's not my favorite ramen I've ever had, but their other menu items are so delicious: my go-to is the Enter the Dragon karaage with rice and a side of edamame, but there's lots of great stuff on their menu for sure! Also I've always had great service there; the waitstaff is alway really nice and I love that they give you Hi Chews with your bill at the end of your meal (they're one of my favorite candies haha). Definitely recommend!

I live in queens so it's quite far for me to commute there. But it's all worth it! Everything is so delishhhhhh especially the ramen. One of the best, tastiest, yummiest ramen in NYC. Love it! The jackfruit karaage is just okay and for the pork bun (I don't eat pork) my friend said it's yummy too! So it's paid off to go all the way there from Queens. Worthhhh it!

I live in Washington Heights and order in from this place 2-4x a week. I also ordered for a group dinner I made. The food is excellent and very fresh and generous. Their salmon is especially good. Every time there has been a question about my order a lovely woman calls from the restaurant. She has good manners and is friendly and professional. She resolves any issue quickly and very well. I love this food and so do all my guests. Recommend very highly for food quality and consistency over time.

Food is not the best, if you are hungry enough you could finish the bowl of soup. You can ask for a spicy soup but it's not actually spicy. Staff and cooks are incredibly nice though.

Great ramen spot with individual stalls, setting feels like if i was in Japanese ramen low key spot .... Flavor on point.... My go too if alone...

The worst ramen I've ever had. I eat ramen quite often and this ramen was not at all authentic. Place was busy but I think it's because it's the only noodle place around. Shio and shoyu ramens were salty. The broth was not slurpable. Shoyu ramen had a ton of woodear mushrooms that made the bowl taste awful. Chasu was not tender and bland. Service was bad. It took a long time to be seated. I would give this 0 stars if I could.
