"Tamra Teahouse in Crown Heights makes Asian and African mashup dishes that you’ll want to eat after a long day, or whenever you’re thinking of taping hand warmers to your face. Whether you go for a bowl of the Korean chicken meeyuk soup, a plate of BBQ pork ribs, or one of the many vegetarian options, nothing will cost more than $15. Well, that and a few hours of sleep, since you’ll be thinking about the Japanese curry like it’s your crush late into the night. There are plenty of floral-print-covered tables here and since most people don’t seem to know about this neighborhood spot, you’ll have no problem getting one." - Nikko Duren

AMAZING! A friend of mine highly recommended and super glad I went. Every single thing I had was fresh and tasty. I split the Japanese chicken curry chicken and Spicy basil chicken, both great but I was really surprised because I'm a HUGE Japanese cut fan but the rice in the basil chicken blew me away. So much flavor. New place so the owner made me 3 different teas to try out. He makes them all from scratch. So fresh!...Just such a different and unique taste than all the generic "Asian fusion" out there. Has Asian/African flavors/vibe. You'll leave very satisfied. I'll be back...

Absolutely love the decor and vibe of this place! Great music selection, relaxing hip hop and other sounds with a very cozy and laid back feel. Had the Japanese Curry and Egg Fried Rice. Both absolutely delicious! I’d recommend this to anyone in the area who’d like to have great comfort food with a lot of variety and decent prices. Check it out, the staff is really nice.

A hidden gem with all the good/chill vibes nestled in Crown Heights but off the noisy Nostrand or Bedford crossways. I tried their Japanese Curry Chicken with avocado and a boiled egg for some extra spice...filling and flavorful. Definitely worth more exploring the menu and the brunch atmosphere, so this review is To Be Continued... Download Allset from the App store and use my code “melissamissye” for $10 for your next order! Pick your meal, place your order, pay all via the app and then your table and food will be ready by your reservation. Enjoy!

Can't say enough good things about this place! First off, places in NYC don't do biscuits for breakfast which is a tragedy, but the biscuits here are awesome and reasonably priced! Second, a lot of places with hip or adventurous food don't want to open for breakfast, but this place: open at 7am! Love it.

Tamra Teahouse is the epitome of a neighborhood gem. What I mean by that is when you think of the perfect 'around the way' restaurant, Tamra always comes to mind. Not only is there standard menu AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS, but their seasonal/specialty menu is always a treat. My 'go-to' dish it the avocado toastones toast salad, with green plum tea. But, you honestly can not go wrong with anything you choose!

My partner and I moved to this neighborhood when Tamra was first opened a few years ago and have witnessed its growth/achievements in food quality and community building! So glad it reopened after Phase 1. The menu selection is limited due to COVID (missing loaded fries and pho) but always root for their spicy basil chicken!!! (It s a huge bowl, and I usually have one order for two meals)

Oh how excited I am about this new addition to the neighborhood. Food was amazing.... couldn't believe it was so busy for a Friday lunchtime. Mix of eat in and take out. Seriously the food is incredible. Spicy chicken with holy basil, rice and egg. Papaya salad was perfect mix of fiery and citrus kick. Husband had the Japanese curry and couldn't resist the ribs which were fall off the bone good. Please go and support these guys as they deserve it.
