"It’s hard to believe the sprawling resort is only a 10-minute drive from increasingly tourist-clogged Ubud—once you’re there, it’s as though you’re in private a country estate miles from civilization. The hotel sits near the 9th-century Goa Gajah, or Elephant Cave; as a tribute to this sacred temple, elephant statues line the winding driveway to the open reception area. The resort occupies what was once the family home of Hendra Hadiprana, a serious art collector and one of Indonesia’s preeminent architects. The resort boasts clear influences from its past life, starting with elaborate sculptures in the lobby. A big pond and a long, green-tiled pool (neatly flanked by a phalanx of sun loungers and parasols) nod to Balinese water palaces. The thatched open-air dining pavilion, which overlooks the paddy fields where the menu's rice is harvested, works for low-key lunches and special-occasion dinners alike. The resort's interpretation of Indonesian Rijsttafel, nine rice dishes with spicy sambals, is particularly great. We also loved lounging on triangular cushions and picnicking at the edge of the property's dazzling green-grass field." - Chris Schalkx, Juliet Kinsman

"Take us there. What's the place like? What stands out as you arrive, either on the hotel grounds or in the surrounding area on approach? It’s hard to believe the sprawling resort is only a 10-minute drive from increasingly tourist-clogged Ubud—once you’re there, it’s as though you’re in private a country estate miles from civilization. The hotel sits near the 9th-century Goa Gajah, or Elephant Cave; as a tribute to this sacred temple, elephant statues line the winding driveway to the open reception area. Lovely. So what's the story behind the Chedi Club?Once the family home of Hendra Hadiprana, a serious art collector and one of Indonesia’s preeminent architects, The resort boasts clear influences from its past life, starting with elaborate sculptures in the lobby. A big pond and a long, green-tiled pool (neatly flanked by a phalanx of sun loungers and parasols) nod to Balinese water palaces. What are the rooms like? Any standout accommodations? There are seven suites and 13 villas. The stand-alone villas aren't enormous, but they're thoughtfully appointed with everything you could need, including minibars where much is free. The Pool Villas have their own plunge pools, some of which open out onto the paddy fields. They're as suited to honeymoons as they are family escapes, and everyone is allocated a dedicated butler. Is the restaurant on site worth a stop, or should we look elsewhere for a pick-me-up?The thatched open-air dining pavilion, which overlooks the paddy fields where the menu's rice is harvested, works for low-key lunches and special-occasion dinners alike. The resort's interpretation of Indonesian Rijsttafel, nine rice dishes with spicy sambals, is particularly great. We also loved lounging on triangular cushions and picnicking at the edge of the property's dazzling green-grass field. How's the service?Staff is about as kind, genuine, and helpful as it gets. Deasy Swandarini is a most charming GM—warm hospitality sets the tone. And how would you describe the people who stay here?Well-to-do guests who don't like to show off. Any other amenities on site we should take note of?In addition to the onsite restaurant and bar, there's also private dining and room service. Wellness facilities include a gym, a spa, and tennis courts. There isn't a kids club per se, but you can hire babysitters. And on Tuesday and Friday evenings, the hotel hosts a Royal Balinese Dinner, where local villagers perform Kecak, a Balinese dance. Bottom line: Why would you pick this resort? What's it best for?Come to savor a private villa and beautiful, sprawling gardens—without having to interact with many other guests." - Juliet Kinsman

We did not stay at the resort - but wow, those grounds are amazing! Went early for the Kecak Dance (traffic is horrendous, and we wanted to see the grounds). Even in heavy rain, they held the dance, as the audience can be under cover. Fabulous experience! Dinner after in the amazing open air restaurant overlooking the rice paddies was also exceptional. Super tasty food and amazing staff, and able to tailor to dietary restrictions. Probably our best experience in Bali.

We absolutely loved our stay here. The way the resort is designed amidst the beautiful rice fields is breathtaking. The property is well designed rich with Balinese culture all round. ||The staff here is so friendly and accomodated all our needs. We were in the two bedroom villa, but all 4 of us wanted to sleep together one of the nights so they made our beds in the living room area. Noopari was specially wonderful taking care of all the stuff the kids wanted to eat. She customizxed each meal to our liking. They had high tea and free cocktail hour. Provided minibar in the room.||The stay was luxurious and well worth the price. We miss the people and the property. Would love to revisit this place!

A beautiful quiet hotel just outside Ubud. We had a magical stay here. The ambience and decor felt authentic Balinese and the staff were attentive and kind. We particularly enjoyed the early morning yoga and the complementary cocktails at sunset. It was a peaceful haven away from Ubud which is very crowded with a big traffic problem. It was a good base to explore more of Bali and it was a peaceful haven to return to at the end of the day. It truly was magical.

Beautiful oasis of peace located next Goa Gajah Temple and a few minutes scooter ride from Ubud center. It’s amazing how close it is to the main sites but it still feels like you are in another planet inside. Villa, service, location, food and overall experience was a 10/10 and has absolutely overcome the brightest expectations. The pool villa was stunning but if you want to go for the lower category room it’s also great cause you can use the main pool which is huge, always clean and never too busy. You can fly an hot air balloon at sunrise and sunset (when the weather allows) experience the Kecak Fire dance, do Yoga, meditation, , have a rice paddy trek, Spa massages, book plenty of tours around Ubud and Bali so either you stay 4 days or one week, you can’t get bored here. The team is lovely, everyone is willing to help and make your experience memorable. I can’t recommend this place enough! Big thanks to Mr. Bima for everything, to the whole staff but a special note to the guys at the restaurant which have been outstanding. One of the top 5 places in Bali!

We spent part of our honeymoon at Tanah Gajah in Ubud and it was pure magic! Nestled among serene rice paddies and stunning, well-maintained gardens, it's a truly peaceful escape. Our villa was perfect: beautifully furnished, spotless, and fully equipped. The private pool was a daily delight, and the gate to the rice fields was a unique touch we loved. Evenings were made special by the outdoor bath. The restaurant setting is romantic and food was absolutely amazing and delicious. What made our stay truly exceptional were the included benefits: a relaxing massage, an incredible hot air balloon experience, insightful rice paddy trekking, and daily afternoon tea and cocktail hour. The thoughtful evening turn-down and biscuits were also much appreciated. We even saw a captivating fire dance! The staff were simply incredible—so friendly and attentive, making us feel incredibly pampered. Ubud is about a 15-minute drive (traffic permitting!), the resort's free daily transport made exploring easy.

The place is a bit dated and at first glance (at the security gate) not very welcoming. But once I was greeted by the staff, I had a very different experience. The property is enormous with lots of privacy. The chef is very talented and a sweetheart, creating delicious dish variants that aren't even on the menu to accommodate for preferences and allergies. The spa is in a beautiful setting although the massages could be better (it was rather rushed and abrupt). Extra kudos for the natural mosquito repellent! Overall great experience.

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights after first visiting Seminyak.|He has not been to Bali before and loved the privacy and relaxation offered at this resort.|It is a beautiful location amongst the rice paddies, the villas are very comfortable and the service from all of the staff was 10 star ⭐️ |Everyone is friendly and cannot do enough to help you enjoy your stay.|The restaurant food was so fresh and delicious for every meal. We even did a cooking class whilst there which was very enjoyable and we now have some yummy recipes to try at home.|I highly recommend this accommodation if you’re looking for somewhere quiet to stay.
