Headed here on a whim, had slight difficulty finding parking but a side street behind the apartments has well labeled resident & services parking. As for the food--TERRIFIC! My first experience with milk bread. It is an added sweetness and great texture to a superbly friend cutlet sandwich. The fries alone are worth the trip as super crunchy, fluffy inside, and heavily seasoned. Their desserts of beautiful cream puffs and whipped cream sandwiches ended our trip on a high note.

I ordered the pork Katsu sandwich and the bread pudding. The food was absolutely amazing. For the sandwich to be, $14.95 the coleslaw to sandwich ratio was a little less than I would like. I feel like I had more sauce than anything but it was so delicious. Banana pudding is a little small as well but very good!

Finally tried TANAKA today for the first time! It was very delicious. I enjoyed the chicken katsu sando, with curry dip, and some dirty fries! My friend had the TANAKA dip and thoroughly enjoyed it, as well. The service was quick and super friendly. The building was a bit chilly and drafty, but otherwise the overall experience was great! And in a convenient location. I will definitely be back for more!! 👍🏻👍🏻

Spicy Pork Katsu sandwich was phenomenal even an hour later when I got home with it. Staff was not upset to see me walking in 15 minutes to close with an in person to-go order. Very cool building, fantastic house-made bread, hands down best sandwich I’ve had in a while.

I love Tanaka but this specific location is not properly managed as far as I can tell. Definitely understaffed, taking the order takes too long due to technical issues, restroom clogged and not properly maintained and an overall sense of lethargy to all the employees working at the time of my visit. Also orders coming out really slowly and one piece at a time. The number system which works so well in the downtown location was also not used which led to confusion as the server tried to find the right table asking everyone if it was their order. We tried the curry rice bowl and ordered it "for here". But contrary to the images on the menu it came in to-go boxes without an explanation. When we opened the boxes the curry itself was missing and we had to ask for it to complete our meals. The curry amount was also too little for the amount of rice and toppings. Otherwise good seating both inside and outside, good selection of Japanese fare and good bang for buck. So all issues listed above seem to be operations related.

Absolutely delicious! The dirty fries, chicken nuggets, and strawberry sandos are amazing. The milk compliments the meals very well. The duo team are kind and make each visit special. Thank you Tanaka Gresham! <3

Google
First time trying TANAKA. Friendly service, freshly made to order so expect a wait or order pick up. Food was great and filling. Staff are very clean, I seen them washing hands constantly which is huge. They take their time with making food and are definitely a quality over quantity restaurant. Recommend and coming back!

Google
First time visit. Great flavors. I tried the tofu katsu sandwich and fries. The katsu dip was really good, too. The condiment for the fries was a completely unexpected surprise. It was really good.

Yelp
Had Tanaka at its other locations, and this one meets the standards! Glad to see them expanding as these sandwiches are delicious. I will be back to try different kinds. They also have sweet fruit sandos that are great as well.

Yelp
This is a new business that recently opened in Gresham. I've driven by a few times but finally had a moment to catch some lunch. All of the menu items were explained by the friendly cashier and I chose the toasted katsu chicken sandwich. I didn't know that the egg salad actually came on it but was SO pleasantly surprised. They taste great together. He had told to me how the chicken was made with a delicate Teriyaki sauce. It was fabulous! Fast Service, and too! When I saw how large each half was I knew I was going to need to-go container. So I asked for a piece of foil. My husband was really going to enjoy this. There lots of seating and sunshine coming through the windows. I'll be back soon. Make sure to look for the parking behind the leasing building of the apartments. It is the "pink zone" parking for customer shopping. Then you'll just have a very short walk to the front door of Tanaka

Yelp
Great sandwich! I got the pork katsu one and really liked it, the slaw and sauce are amazing. The fries have a great crisp, but could use a little more seasoning in my opinion, though you do get a ton of them. Paid 17 bucks for the sandwich, fries and a drink, definitely coming back!

Yelp
I have seen my friend post about Tanaka in NW and always wanted to try it, so I was thrilled to see that there's a location in Gresham now! He and I went a couple of weeks ago, and I really enjoyed it. The one downside is that the indoor dining area is very small. However, there is a large outdoor dining area, which is where we ate since it was a beautiful day. It was lovely! I tried the spicy chicken katsu sandwich, and it was delicious! Definitely was hot for me (I have low tolerance sadly haha) but I enjoyed it! Got to try my friend's fries & curry sauce, which were tasty and helped cut the heat of my sandwich. If it's a nice day, I recommend coming and dining outside, and if it's an average weather day, maybe consider to-go since the dining area is small.

Yelp
Everything was really tasty. The spicy pork katsu sandwich was so good, it was crispy and juicy. The egg sandwich was simple but very good as well. The bread was fluffy. The chicken nuggets and fries was probably the best, every thing was fried to perfection and seasoned perfectly. You order at the counter and sit and they bring you the Food. Service was pretty quick even though we had a huge party. A pretty small place.

Yelp
Both the Spicy Katsu and Dirty fries were delicious. The spices on the sandwich were really good and were the perfect amount of spiciness. The dirty fries had some roasted cilantro and small peppers with some sort of gravy that gave it a unique flavor. The service was great and super friendly along with the ambiance. Definitely will be coming back to try different sandwiches.

Yelp
Very tasty sandwiches and baked goods. Paid this place a visit on a Friday afternoon. They were very busy. Ordered the chicken katsu sandwich. It was very good. The chicken was cooked very well, still juicy and had a nice crisp to it. The egg salad and shredded lettuce was a perfect complement to offset the fried chicken. The fries were also very good. Great crunch to them. For dessert I had the kiwi sando. The fruit was sweet and seemed very fresh. The house made whip cream was the star of the show, so delicious. The only thing was the bread was not as soft as I would like. Overall was a very good meal and I will definitely be back soon.

Yelp
I've been to the Tanaka in downtown Portland, and was excited to see them open a location here in Gresham. My prior experience at the Portland location was so-so, because I had the spicy sandwich, which was way too spicy for me. But this experience in Gresham was great. The location itself is a nice building. I like how the Civic apartments have come together, and they have a nice little urban park (with some structures that kids can climb on) adjacent to the MAX stop and the Gresham-Fairview bike trail. This restaurants has big glass garage doors which open onto that plaza, which is nice. The prices are great. Like $10 for a pretty substantial sandwich -- cheaper than Burgerville, and about on par with Subway. And way, way better. The staff on the Friday we were there were friendly. And while I worried that they would be empty (it seems like it is an area that could struggle to keep steady business), they were active at lunchtime on a Friday in July. I had the tofu classic sandwich ($10), dipped in an optional curry ($2) (which is a dark, rich gravy similar to japanese curry made from roux bricks). My family had the pork katsu, shredded-pork sandwich, and a katsu nuggets order. They were all good, but honestly the tofu was my favorite. Great flavor, good texture, good for the environment, and you saved the life of a pig. Stop by and check this place out. It's great!

Yelp
Atmosphere was modern and sterile. Limited selections. Food was ordered at the counter and picked up. Only two workers observed. The meat was extremely over fried. I ordered a dip sandwich and meat was unidentifiable. The salad was over spiced and inedible. I actually threw away my dinner.

Yelp
Was in the area for a soccer game and decided to try this location. Food was delicous! Got a sandwich to go, friendly staff.

Kayla B.

Yelp
The sandwiches are amazing and the dirty fries are a must-have. However, do not expect a fresh kale slaw in either the sandwiches or the side option. The kale slaw is very much a standard American Cole Slaw with no kale to be seen. Very disappointing if you like fresh veggies with your meal.

Eunice B.

Yelp
The food is of excellent quality and incredibly satisfying, with delicious flavors. The restaurant's modern and simple design creates a clean, inviting atmosphere. The attentive and friendly servers contribute to a truly enjoyable dining experience.

Yelp
Stopped by the other day & enjoyed everything we had! The chicken katsu is so crispy and juicy definitely recommend getting! There is both indoor and outdoor seating. The outside is covered so you're able to eat in the rain. Which we did! The staff were very friendly & kind. We will be back again!

Yelp
Very corporate feeling...The bathroom was a total mess, and the trash bins were overflowing with garbage at the busing station. The food looked pretty, and tasted good, but immediately gave me and my family a stomach ache and loose stool. I'm guessing lots of low quality soybean oil for frying and the sauces. Never again.

Lucas S.

Yelp
The chicken katsu sandwich is the best sandwich on this side of the mississippi. The 15 dollar sandwiches taste like 15 dollar sandwiches.

Yelp
The Strawberry Sando drew me in but it's the Spicy Pork Katsu and the Egg Sando that I'm hooked! I was very pleased to see a Japanese Sando Shop open up here locally. I used to drive all the way to Seattle to the Japanese Grocery near my friend's house and hit up the Sando shop near Uwajimaya. 10/10 Highly Recommend now if only we can get Korean Street Toast nearby I'd be so happy!!
