10 Best Restaurants in Travelers Rest, South Carolina | Eater Carolinas

"Coffee lovers have found a home at Tandem, where they brew Counter Culture coffee and serve all the caffeinated drinks Millennials love — think honey lavender lattes and housemade spiced chai. As the namesake suggests, Tandem is also a place to find savory and sweet crepes made using white, wheat, cornmeal or almond batter. Many of the sweet options are riffs on classic desserts like tiramisu and pumpkin pie." - Parker Milner

Tandem Creperie and Coffeehouse is cozy vibes & amazing waffles. This place is seriously adorable. Warm & welcoming atmosphere with the kind of charm that makes you want to stay all morning. The waffles were so good, super crunchy on the outside & waffle perfection. The staff was friendly, everything feels relaxed, and it’s just a great spot to hang out. The place was clean, cozy seating, and limited parking.

First, if you have never been to Travelers Rest, this is a perfect place to begin. This amazing creperie sits in a charming old brick building right off the Swamp Rabbit Trail. If you see the Travelers Rest welcome sign, it's across the street. This is one of my favorite brunch spots in the greater Greenville area. They serve a large selection of permanent and rotating crepes. Not to mention, their lattes are worth the trip. My favorite order is to split a sweet and savory crepe so as to find that perfect balance of sweetness. If I had to choose my favorite crepe, it would have to be the savory sausage potato, loaded with kale, cheese, maple syrup, béchamel, and an egg on top! The atmosphere is great, with seating inside or outside under the porch. Once you have looked over the menu, start your order at the vintage camper beside the building and head to your seat. There may be a line, but it's worth the wait!

Google
Delicious sweet and savory crepes at a good price! Coffee was also good. They have a main menu as well as a few specials. You order at the yellow van outside, then take a number and find seating somewhere inside or outside. The small inside cafe seating area was cute. Most of their fillings for the crepes are pre-mixed, so you will not be able to do any substitutions if you don't like or can't eat one of the ingredients.

Google
We didn’t know what to expect after ordering at an old VW minibus, but we were so enthralled with our savory chicken and mushroom crepe with a lemon sugar crepe for ‘dessert’. My chai tea latte and my husband’s pour over Ethiopian coffee was excellent. Would absolutely return.

Google
We absolutely loved these crepes! They were huge, stuffed, and delicious! We ordered the Lumberjack, the Banana Nut Chocolate crepe, and the green one. I also ordered the vanilla latte, which was amazing!

Google
We love the locals! Sadly, so much of our mountain areas are still recovering from Helene so we have started to branch out. Tandem has a great story, great staff, the best food we've tasted in a while. After we ate, we took a stroll on the Swamp Rabbit Trail. It was delightful! Lots of lovely ppl getting exercise, sunshine, time with family and friends. Beautiful area, beautiful ppl!

Google
What a fun experience and the food was awesome plus reasonably priced. We went with family and friends and tried several different crepes that were all very good: Lumberjack, Chicken & Mushroom, Tiramisu, Strawberry and Nutella, Lemon and Cinnamon Roll. We had a Horchata coffee and a cold brew coffee. The cold brew was good but the Horchata was really good. The seating is a little cramped, especially because it was really crowded. You order at an old bus outside and they give you a table number to sit inside an old house or at a table outside. Despite the long line to order, it went fairly quickly, and the food came quick and was delivered to the table. The service was good.

Google
Tandem is everything I want out of a breakfast spot: great coffee, great food, great vibes. I have family nearby and make a priority to make the 30 minute drive to Tandem at least once while I am in SC. They have a polished variety of crepe options, but I gravitate towards the sausage potato and/or the tiramasu. They brew with Methodical Coffee, and it's such a lovely touch. I'm so grateful for Tandem and all those that make it possible!

Yelp
What a fun experience and great food. Order at the VW bus, get a table, then enjoy! We all had crepes and I usually steer clear of orange juice...it said fresh squeezed and it was. I'd go back!

Yelp
Fantastic crepes! If you're looking to spoil yourself with some amazing food - this is the place. They have inside and outside seating, a cool VW camper van to order from, and a wide selection of crepes and coffee. The crepes are large! I had no idea and ordered two, and I could barely eat it all :)) Everything tasted amazing - my savory crepe aka Mediterranean was perfect and so was the strawberry shortcake one. Overall, very happy with food quality and prices. Highly recommend!

Yelp
This is such a cute little place. There is a small parking lot in the back but when we arrived on a Saturday morning it was completely full so we parked down the street. There is a park less than a block away where there are extra parking spots. You order outside at a small window and while on the weekend the line can be long, it moves very fast. After you order you get a number to go sit inside. The service is quick and the food is yummy. It isn't as busy during the week and can be the perfect place to co-work but I wouldn't recommend trying to do that on the weekend.

Yelp
Need a wider range of food great service great people Most of us can only eat so many crepes!

Yelp
Just visiting a friend in Travelers Rest, SC and we decided to walk uptown for breakfast. This place immediately gets your attention with the VW bus and awning outside where you can place your order. You can choose to go inside or eat at the outside or veranda tables. As the name implies they serve crepes. I ordered a coffee black. All their coffee is pour over style. It was quite flavorful. My crepe was sizeable and consisted of shredded chicken and mushroom filling. It was topped with a cream sauce, scallions, and spring mix. It was very good and filling. For a unique breakfast experience I highly recommend trying this while in the area

Yelp
Excellent service, very friendly and helpful staff!!! Delicious crepes and iced cappuccino! Can't go wrong at this place. Highly recommend it!!! Very Clean with pretty yellow interior.

Yelp
What more can you say? They are the best. I go out of my way when traveling to eat here. They are the chick-fil-a of crepe service. The menu is amazing. The staff is nice. Food is cooked quickly. Nothing other than joyful sugar highs and long afternoons to ensue!! I'll see you again yellow tandem bike and retro VW van! Much love to tandem!
google avatar

Yelp
We ordered the Lumberjack, Blueberry Cream, Sausage Potato crepes. The ambiance and atmosphere could not be better. The decor is delightful and I love the ordering process at the cute little VW wagon. Each crepe was full of unique flavor and perfectly balanced. There was a great combination of sweet and savory notes! Thank you Tandem staff for accommodating a nut allergy so carefully! We truly appreciate it!

Yelp
I was questioning my decision to come here when I saw the line. They were doing ordering outside at a van and seating indoors and outdoors, and on a nice day the line was pretty substantial. However, I was impressed with how quick the service was. I was out of there in forty minutes or so total, including waiting in line, waiting for food, and the walk to parking and back (as well as the actual eating). And this mattered because I had somewhere to be. The next time a restaurant owner tells me that expecting efficient service is not realistic, I'll remember this place. And what I got was well worth my travel detour. My banana nut crepe was fresh, even in texture, and delivered a rich chocolate and Nutella flavoring along with a substantial amount of actual banana. My chai was available iced and was not especially sweet, which is good because I didn't want to double up on sugar. And the price was quite reasonable. It was a ritzy area, and I could see why people would want to crowd in here. A park nearby had more parking spaces than the restaurant itself.

Yelp
Interesting place order at the bus and get your crepes. Eat inside very nice area to east. I got the lumberjack crepe savory and sweet. Very nice people to help you. Fast service.

Yelp
Decided to try this place after a recommendation from a friend. The good: Service was quick despite the very long line to order. The menu is simple and too the point. We ordered a drip coffee and omelet and I got a mocha latte. Everything was quality and well worth the price! The bad: Parking was virtually non existent. You have to park at the public lot about 200 yds down the road. There is nothing to indicate the lot is there, but all the locals seem to know without issue. The line can get very long outside (20 ppl+), but it moves quickly. Overall, great little place I'd you want good coffee or brunch, worth a stop! 5 stars!!

Yelp
So so good! I didn't think I was a big crepe fan, but I was wrong!! I ordered the garden club and a vanilla latte & my husband got the chicken mushroom- so so good! Our friends ordered the blueberry crepe, that I tried and also enjoyed - not too sweet despite the appearance. I loved the yellow and white decor and that you ordered from the bus and then migrated to an assigned table. It was super organized!
google avatar

Shanna W.

Yelp
Loved this place! Will definitely return! Foodie friend and I enjoyed the lumberjack and the lemon sugar. We shared both crepes. Deliciousness! The latte is fantastic also. Loved the atmosphere. If you are remotely close to Travelers Rest... GO! You will not be disappointed!
google avatar

Bry M.

Yelp
Great food served by and awesome team! We stopped in at 10:15am on a Saturday...definitely had a line which we expected but the line moved quickly. Ordering at the bus helps the restaurant avoid people from hovering over tables eating and those people who love to save seats for friends who are late or never show up. The system works and I'm happy they do it that way since we met my family which means we take up a table longer then mostly along with tipping higher then most for the space! Food was all great and everyone loved the coffee/tea! Go check them out when you are in the area, you will definitely not be disappointed

Yelp
So great! Adorable place with fresh wildflowers and a wonderful warm and cozy vibe about it. Bright and cheery inside. You order at the bus but they have plenty of seating and a nice patio. The pour over coffee was maybe some of the best I've had. The iced chai was very very good- I was so relieved it wasn't so sweet like 90 percent of the chai syrups I have tried. The crepes were wonderful as well- the sweet ones are very sweet just to be aware. Would LOVE to come back.

Yelp
Ordered the chicken and mushroom savory crepe with hot vanilla latte. The crepe was exquisite and a portioned to leave me feeling full and then some. I also really enjoyed the latte that wasn't essentially sugar with a splash of coffee like Starbucks. Our food and coffee came out in less than 15 minutes while the restaurant was decently crowded. I would definitely visit again if I'm ever in town again.

Michael H.

Yelp
Awesome atmosphere with outdoor seating. The coffee and food is amazing and delicious. Prices don't reflect the quality of food, everything tastes so good for not much money.

Gaby H.

Yelp
Beautiful place, great servic, and food is amazingggg for someone that has a sweet tooth : (must visit this place!!)

Patricia M.

Yelp
Me and my sister passed by and meant the nicest people, everyone was so caring and was very friendly I even did a little Bible study with no problem keep up the great work ladies and gentleme. The cook was going crazy, props to you man, very efficient and food 10/10.
google avatar

Anthony H.

Yelp
If you're going through or near traveler's rest, this is the place to eat. We had 3 crêpes, the cinnamon bun, lemon, and the banana nut. Each of which were fresh and delicious. They serve counter culture coffee and everything was very affordable. Friendly staff and a cute location. Order from the little van and eat inside the old building.

Yelp
I cannot say enough good things about Tandem! Everything I've tried there has been absolutely amazing. The lattes, both iced and hot, are phenomenal and the latte art is very pretty. The crepes are to DIE for, especially the lumberjack. It's a perfect balance of sweet and savory and is loaded with delicious meats. I love their use of fresh seasonal fruits in both the crepes and waffles as well. And I'm not even a huge juice fanatic, but Tandem's OJ is seriously the best I've ever had in my life! Fresh, flavorful, and oh so refreshing. On top of the top notch vittles and libations, the entire aesthetic of Tandem is absolutely adorable. From the cute little yellow van where you place your order outside to the tiny vases of fresh flowers on all the tables, they've done a great job of cultivating an atmosphere that is warm, inviting and interesting. I can't wait to visit Tandem again, and you should check it out too!

Yelp
Savory crepes, great flavors, super presentation and service, satisfying, yet I don't feel stuffed. Industrial vibe.
google avatar

Peter G.

Yelp
Simply the best breakfast in TR! Everything I've ever tried here has been amazing. I always take out of town guests here for breakfast it's that good!

Mark D.

Yelp
What an amazing breakfast this morning. The Spicy Mocha had the perfect combination of cinnamon and cayenne. It was like a Mexican hot chocolate but blended with coffee. The chicken & mushroom crepe was tasty and filling. However, the banana pudding crepe was absolutely amazing! Not too sweet, and fresh ingredients.
google avatar

Scott C.

Yelp
Food, hospitality & indoor and outdoor seating is nicely prepared for people who're in small or large groups. Thankful for each person who helps Tandem. Many blessings and thanks.
google avatar

Jeff B.

Yelp
The crepes and coffee are amazing. We had The Lumberjack which is a savory breakfast-in-a-crepe and the Strawberry Short Crepe which is a sweet crepe made with fresh South Carolina strawberries, key lime custard and fresh whip cream. The crepes were both phenomenal, and the coffee was the best I have ever gotten at a coffee house. Ever. There is outdoor dog friendly dining. It was so good, we went back the next morning before leaving town. We have friends that live in Greenville and drive up to Travelers Rest regularly for crepes. I totally get why.
google avatar

Melissa L.

Yelp
Still one of my favorites! Can't stay away from my beloved blueberry waffle but I add the blueberry cream they put on their crepes. It's AMAZING! They had lots of new specials so I tried the banana pudding crepe. It was way too much food so I took that home but not without trying it! I do wish it had more real banana chunks inside but the flavor was amazing. I enjoyed it so much! Pro tip: I learned they can actually make a salad from some of their crepes! Good to know!
google avatar

Luisa H.

Yelp
Such a great place for breakfast!! The service is wonderful and the food always fresh & delicious!

Yelp
Amazing crepes. No I am not normally a fan. Got dragged here with my family of ladies. But now I am a happy man at the idea of crepes. I had the lumberjack which was tasty and filled me up. That is often my complaint is I leave hungry from a crepe restaurant. The drinks are well made with the fancy shapes on the frothy cappuccinos. Open space for sitting and great service. All together a very nice first time and a great place to stop and enjoy of you are visiting Traveler's Rest.

Ben H.

Yelp
Everything was very good. Basically a quick service type of set up where you order outside at the van, they tell you which table number you're assigned to and then your food and drinks are brought to your table. Food was fast and very good. This would be a great place to take out of town guest to for breakfast prior to going for a bike ride or walk.

Cynthia R.

Yelp
Friendly service by entire team! Clean, charming creperie. Order outside in their yellow Volkswagen bus and they will seat you inside or outside. Their is a line, sometimes with 30+ people, specially on the weekends but trust me it's worth it. Parking is tight, as they don't have many spaces available come with time to either wait for parking spot if you want to park at Tandem or just park at Gateway park next to the bike shop across the street from Tandem. The walk is not long. Blueberry compote crepe is my absolute favorite, if you want a sweet crepe. They have savory crepes and delicious waffles too! Try this place out with your friends and family next time you are at Downtown Travelers Rest!
google avatar

Lily S.

Yelp
The wait isn't too bad, the crepes were good and the ambience is very cute! We'd come back here
google avatar

Ami A.

Yelp
Delicious spot for sweet and savory crepes and gourmet coffee. Order at the yellow retro van and sit inside to eat. The mocha and chai latte were delicious served in large yellow mugs. The lumberjack snd sausage and potato crepes were filling and tasty. Will definitely be back for breakfast!
google avatar

Mary S.

Yelp
Amazing combos and flavors! Crepe or for some a very very thin pancake. If you don't like tiny pancakes, try it! I love the fillings. Sit outside for a bright green house effect or inside w/ the rustic atmosphere. Definitely a great brunch or lunch stop!
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
Order at the bus, what a great idea! Seating inside, under the patio or outside with your pup!! Perfectly made waffles, so fresh and delicious! The fruit was sweet, and very fresh! The crêpes were cooked to perfection! The staff was very friendly and food was out in minutes. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Brooks D.

Yelp
Good coffee. Small shop but with a good atmosphere. I got a crepe, my first ever. This small town is a good stop on a road trip.
google avatar

Jessica E.

Yelp
Oh man this place was tasty! The crepes here are very filling. I got the fiesta one and it was delicious. It was filled with chicken, beans, cheese, sour cream. LOVED IT! I couldn't finish it because it was a lot with the coffee. I loved the service. It's a cool experience. We get to order outside and they have indoor, outdoor and patio sitting available. We decided indoor. The food came out like 8 minutes later. It was very tasty. My BF had the lumberjack crepe and that one was also very tasty. It was more of a breakfast one. The customer service was excellent. I love the southern hospitality. I've been here before and will be combing back to try other crepes.
google avatar

Ashley H.

Yelp
This is hands-down my favorite latte in the Greenville area. Next time you find yourself at Tandem give the lavender latte with almondmilk a try--I truly can't recommend it enough! It's perfect to sip on while waiting for your food and delighting in the smell of fresh crepes being made just a few feet away. I love the variety of sweet and savory crepes to choose from--this time I enjoyed the chicken and mushroom crepe, which beat out my usual staple: banana nut. But honestly, you really can't go wrong! I can't wait to see what inventive fall/winter specials they rotate onto the menu this year.

Ann L.

Yelp
The food is incredible and I have not complaint. However, today was the second time I have been asked to vacate our table the minute we were done with our food. We wanted to order another two pour overs and a dessert crepe from the waitress. She was so rude to us. She told us we had to vacate the table and if we had not ordered these items upon arrival at the "yellow bus" we would have to leave as others were waiting for our table. I can understand if we were just "hanging around and talking" but we actually wanted to order and pay for more food items. We have done this before. There food might be great but the attitude from the waitress was not acceptable. Will look elsewhere for crepes!

Parker O.

Yelp
Ordered a Banana Pudding Crepe, which turned out to be one of my favorite breakfast items of all time, and a Bacon Pimento Waffle, which was great. GF ordered a blueberry waffle which was top tier. Service was extremely quick.

Nik R.

Yelp
Food and drinks are always outstanding. Strawberry shortcake is amazing when in season. The Lumberjack is always a nice balance of sweet and savory. The staff is always so friendly and smiles all around.
google avatar

Bob M.

Yelp
Mouthwatering. I could use a bunch more adjectives but you have to try this place for yourself. Want something sweet? They got it. How about savory? They got it. Coffee, cappuccino, latte. Check. I'd leave more of a review but I'm afraid more people will go here and eat all the crepes. Don't worry about the line outside to order, it moves fast and the service is friendly and efficient.
google avatar

Scott H.

Yelp
I tried Tandem about 4 years ago and decided crepes weren't my thing. My friend convinced me to try it again today and I'm very glad he did. The lumberjack crepe was so meaty, filling, and delicious. Love the good amounts of ham and bacon they put in it. With a cup of coffee it's a perfect start to a outdoor activity.
google avatar

Richard M.

Yelp
Great for quick breakfast and coffee. Cyclists: perfect location for mid ride coffee. Had the lumberjack crepe. Almost more than I could eat. Since I was kid-ride I only ate half ...amazing
google avatar

Amber R.

Yelp
Very unique and beautiful place! Our crepes were flavorful and we were served very fast. Prices were shockingly reasonable.
google avatar

Simone S.

Yelp
The cutest spot! We made the trip from Clemson for breakfast one Saturday and it is worth the drive. You can order outside and sit outside if its nice out, but since it was raining we sat at the bar inside. The interior is adorable and smells amazing! We both ordered the Lumberjack crepe and had a seasonal banana pudding dessert crepe to share. Definitely order the Lumberjack if you're not sure what to get, it was so delicious.

Carolina U.

Yelp
Lumberjack breakfast for the hungry! Crepes for the lighter side! All Good!! Always a line and a wait but it is worth it!
google avatar

Eric W.

Yelp
This was a great treat! Splendid atmosphere and terrific food. The service away so cheerful, polite and always there when we needed anything. A little nervous about ordering at the VW van and then getting assigned a table, but the process was slick and made it a dream. Highly recommend the food and coffee.
google avatar

Beatrix S.

Yelp
I have come here a few times with coworkers and it is a very cute place. You order outside from a little old school looking VW bus that has been made into a glorified cash register/checkout. It's quirky but fun. The crepes are super delicious and they have both sweet and savory options. The Grazing Goat is so well balanced and even with goat cheese and blueberries, it is actually a savory option with its well balanced flavors. The sausage potato is another great choice for savory and is the perfect breakfast. You literally cannot go wrong with any of the sweet options especially the banana nut and tiramisu!! The crepes themselves are also very well made. They make a great snack before or after a walk down the swamp rabbit trail!
google avatar

Sarah V.

Yelp
If you're just hanging out in downtown TR or riding your bike on the swamp rabbit trail, this is a cute quick spot to grab a bite to eat. Normally I'm not a huge fan of crepes but theirs are fantastic and very filling. Service is always on point. You can eat inside or outside. Would recommend if you're in the mood to try something a little different!
