Where to Eat Right Now in Murfreesboro | Eater Nashville

"Although they no longer host their popular lunchtime buffet, Murfreesboro diners still flock here for traditional Indian curries, tandoori fare, and vegetarian dishes — favorites include the garlic naan, the chicken tikka masala, and the samosas. The simple, dimly-lit room is a go-to date night destination for locals and is also gluten-free friendly." - Eater Staff

Google
Highly, HIGHLY recommend Tandoor Indian Restaurant if you’re looking for tasty Indian cuisine in the area! My family and I arrived early and waited for them to open for dinner service. Surprisingly there was another family that were seated before us even though we only arrived maybe 5-10 minutes after they opened. That was a good sign to me that maybe they’re a decent spot. Our server (forgot his name) was very attentive and made sure to come and check on us often. Although, I will say it was a little difficult to understand what he was saying at times since he had a thick accent. But we managed. The food was definitely 5 star for us. My husband and I ordered the vegetable samosas, chicken tiki masala and garlic naan to share for our dinner. Everything was delicious and piping hot from the kitchen. We got medium spice on our curry and it had just the right amount of kick to it. The only negative I will mention is that it was pretty warm in the restaurant. But that may be because we arrived almost right as they opened so maybe the AC was still kicking in. Other than that everything else during our experience, food and service, was five star! Will definitely be back for more!

My wife and I had dinner here not too long ago. I have been to a number of authentic Indian/tandoori restaurant and this one makes the list. Really genuine Indian, too many things on the menu as is usually the case. I had a goat curry and garlic naan which was 👍 Prices are reasonable and the restaurant was nice and clean however, the ambience needs some work. It's one big open room with no real separation between tables. The booth we were in was short and it didn't feel very private. Food and service were very good though.

Google
Service was amazing. Mr. Jay S. took care of us. First, we went there for the buffet. Manager said no buffet today. Thats the first error on my visit. Went to the bathroom and the paper towel machine broken, as was the soap dispenser? Floor was very dirty. The food was so so. Everyone told me the food was spectacular here.... I guess I'm very picky when it comes to the flavor of the food I eat. As a reviewer it should be. I can tell you I have had better maybe a bad day for the cook.

Our first time getting take out at the restaurant which was recommended to us. So many menu items, we had a hard time choosing. We got the chicken curry, lentil soup, garlic naan and veggie samosas. Staff was friendly, food was excellent! So flavorful and portion size was good. Will be back to dine in and try the buffet!

Update - Another fantastic meal with great service. Full of flavor and I had them kick it up in spice a bit. Tasty :-) Update- I just love the flavors at this place. Always enjoyable. Wow! What amazing flavors! So glad I found this place. If your taste buds need a wake up call this is the place. The different layers of flavors in one single bite is amazing. I had the Chicken Karahai and it was excellent. The restaurant was clean and the staff was friendly and attentive. The menu is quite large so there's plenty to pick from. I'm looking forward to coming back.

Google
First time here and will give it four stars. First, when we arrived close to 2pm, I realized that they were closing within an hour (3pm). They close for two hours then open again at 5pm. Not an issue but could definitely feel that tension at first that the staff were wanting to clean the place out by 3. They actually turned away customers at 2:30pm. (We did not look at store hours upon sitting, but now we know for next time). We sat for roughly 12-15 minutes without being asked about drinks/food so this is primarily why 5 stars was not given. Will possibly update this on the next visit. Once our server came he was friendly and we ordered drinks and food at the same time. Took about 20 minutes or so for food to come out which is not an issue because I could tell the cooks were working fast. We ordered the chicken curry and the chicken masala. They were both very delicious and portions were good size. Will definitely be back to try other menu options. Check out the pictures with this review!

I ordered take out. Tandoori chicken, vegetable biryani rice, and meat samosas. The food was delicious! Service was great! Staff were friendly, food was done in a timely manner. I will be going again.

Google
It was just an average visit. We were the first ones there. Awkward because employees are sitting at booths or just staring at you. They did tell us to sit wherever. We sat and got our drinks immediately and went to the buffet. The sauces were luke warm (I prefer mine hot) It was fine but I’ve had better. Overall it was decent.

Yelp
I got lamb biryani, never had biryani before that but it was very good and i recommend this place and all of their dishes. When it comes to spice level i got a 3 and it directly translated to the spice level at local thai spots, 1 if you don't like spice, 2 for spicy, 3 for hot and beyond that is for native eaters or people who love very spicy foods that result in burning sensations and sweat pouring down your face. Great food, great service.

Yelp
The food is absolutely amazing and has so much flavor. We got the chicken Tikka masala and the chicken patia. Both dishes were so delicious and flavorful. We also got the garlic pitta and onion pitta and those were so delicous! The staff was great and very attentive and friendly. The love the atmosphere.

Yelp
Quit little place, service 7 out of 10, food quality 9 out of 10, miss the buffet they once had. Chicken Korma and Lamb Rogan Josh served with Jasmine rice was terrific. Had to ask for silver ware 3 times be for I received. Plenty of food yummy

Yelp
Tandoor was great, we've been enjoying the Indian food that is offered in Murfreesboro. Tandoor had some of the friendliest staff you will get, they were very attentive. Food was really good, we got something different than we are used to because of a recommendation and it didn't disappoint. There is some heavy competitive with Indian food in the area but Tandoor is a great option.

Yelp
Solid Indian restaurant with quick, friendly service. It's on the small side but numerous booth and tables and can handle larger family groups. The naan is the superstar here--the garlic with a side of mango chutney is recommended. Entrees are plentiful and spiced to order. My chicken vindaloo was impressive--really well prepared; the chicken and potatoes were very tender and the sauce was robust. The saag dishes are also recommended. Beer and wine available. nestled in a shopping center with plenty of parking, the place is comfy and unpretentious. Take out is available and popular.
google avatar

Crystina L.

Yelp
Always satisfied every time we order food from here. Delicious . We normally order the chicken patia.
google avatar

Damoun S.

Yelp
Restaurant's name is Tandoor but they don't have chicken breast Tandoori. Why just thigh?!
google avatar

Jenn K.

Yelp
The food is delicious in this quiet little spot. You have a choice of how hot you want most items, and I do not eat spicy, so the fact that I absolutely love this place should tell you something lol. The service here is sometimes a little slow but they are always very nice. I highly recommend the chicken tikka masala.

Yelp
Tonight not great. Take out was supposed to be ready in 50 minutes and it was not out for 75 minutes. Then everything was lukewarm and bread was soggy. Was it sitting in the back for 25 mins? Used to be good food. I guess they just don't care about quality. We will try one of the other Indian restaurants in Murfreesboro next time.

Yelp
This is one of my personal favorite restaurants. The people who work here are incredibly nice and the food is delicious! I'm a chicken tikka masala lover and they do it very well! The vegetable samosas are so yummy. The sauce makes them, in my opinion. They also do takeout!

Noah M.

Yelp
This place is amazing. The food is great, the service is great, quick time for food to come out. I'm by no means a food critic, but this place is a five star spot. Got their version of chicken tenders which were seasoned beautifully. The two sauces that came with it were spectacular. An herby green sauce and the other I would equate to a BBQ style sauce. Both are fantastic. I got the lamb Rogan Josh , wife got the chicken chilli crisp. We both got level three heat, and garlic naan. We're both satisfied with the quality and quantity of their food. Place should literally be packed every day.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! Wife and I shared a combination dinner. We live up in Hendersonville and loved it so much we ordered a second combination to go! Can't believe I used to work in the Boro and slept on this for all those years lol. Will be making up an excuse to return soon!

Yelp
A go to for those who like Indian food. The heat levels are now numeric, from 2 to 6. I got everything at 6 and it met my definition of hot, but certainly not Thai hot. During my last trip to Murfreesboro, I ate there 3 times. I had vegetable pakoras, vegetable vindaloo, chicken jalfrezi and lamb korma. I particularly liked the vindaloo, which was more tomatoey than usual. The only disappointment is the pakoras. Each order comes with a set of overbattered, light-colored potato and cauliflower ones and darker balls of unidentifiable mixed vegetables. None was crispy and the only crunchy vegetable was an undercooked potato. Bonus for gluten-free options.

Yelp
Really delicious food and great service, the waiter Jay was so pleasant and helped us find menu items to accommodate our non-dairy needs and spicy level. Super tasty, will visit for sure when I come back to Nashville!

Yelp
When it comes to Indian food people usually like it or don't. So if you are a fan of Indian food you should definitely check this place out. If you are asking what kind of Indian food then this is North Indian food. The most common on people love is the butter chicken, but there are so many other dishes too! People often ask me what to get at Indian restaurants, so i give them the most random options and then do love it. So here are my few that I tried. We got Chilli chicken which has an Asian twist, so it will taste a lil different when compared to you normal dishes and it's not a curry. If you like grilled chicken you will like this twist of that for sure. Then we got Malai Kofta which is a vegetarian dish. It has these balls made of potato and paneer(Indian cheese) which is deep fried in a gravy. The gravy is similar to butter chicken. Then we got 3 diff types of naan! I do recommend the keema naan! It's really good! Keema is mincemeat (goat). The ambiance is really nice and the staff was very attentive. We have been coming here for a while. If you can tolerate spicy food then ask for medium or else stick to mild. We got medium the first time and it packed a punch. The price is really good as well. There are a few other Indian restaurants around mboro and this one is my favorite. So definitely do check it out!

Yelp
The Mixed Grill. This was a great choice. The chicken was nice and tender. Juicy and delicious. It came with rice and bread. It look like they use to offer buffet. If you're Looking for good authentic Indian food, this is it. It's located in the same plaza as Chophouse.

Paul P.

Yelp
Very good food they can also make without onion and garlic if you don't eat those nice service
google avatar

Nick G.

Yelp
I got take out from Tandoor and here is my review Restaurant vibe when picking up food- Very nice would love to dine in at some point Restaurant Service- the staff was extremely nice, wish I could've gotten a name Restaurant food- Exquisite If you want some good Indian food, (especially tikka masala), this is the place to go

Yelp
The food is always fresh and delicious. The owners are super polite, thank you for making amazing food.

Yelp
Exceptional and delicious! The staff there is very helpful in choosing dishes and explaining what each is. They are very friendly and hospitable. The food was so very fresh and wonderful. Such a great first experience eating Indian food. One of my new favorite places to go!

Christina B.

Yelp
Tried this restaurant on 8/14/24. Sat down to eat, ended up leaving within minutes of receiving the entree because a roach started crawling down the wall. We showed them the crawling roach and they were not concerned. They also did not apologize nor offer to comp the meal. I have NEVER been at a restaurant and a roach crawled down the wall!!! 10/10 do not recommend!!!
google avatar

Yelp
The curry sauce is like butter. It literally melts in your mouth, and the spices are absolutely impossible to replicate. This is the best curry I've had in a long time, and it has certainly reminded me of why I love great Indian Food; it reminded me that food should be an experience. This was nothing short of exceptional. And the portions are huge, so I was able to save half for dinner the next day. If you're a college student looking for quality food in large quantities, this is definitely your place. The atmosphere is also worth mentioning. Very romantic and calm, all while still holding a lot of life and happiness.

Yelp
I was surprised by this place!! They were very busy and only had to servers but the food was fast and the servers were very attentive. The food was really good! We tried the chicken curry and one more thing I don't remember the name but it was a mango chicken. They were both delicious! We also tried a mango drink! It was so good and sweet and creamy. I will definitely want to go back and try more from the menu.
google avatar

Yelp
Good for dine in or carry out. We had the appetizer plate and butter chicken and tandoori chicken. Very good! Serve Indian beer too
google avatar

Rachel G.

Yelp
Holy Deliciousness! What an experience. Everything was filled with flavor. We shared all the things. Don't be in a hurry. My favorite was the lamb. Samosa Vegetable Aloo Tikki Lamb Mango Chicken Tikka Masala Chicken Tandoori So good!
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing, fresh food! Super tasty! Good delivery service, haven't been in-person but would love to in the future!

Yelp
This was our first time trying Indian food and it was sooooo DELICIOUS! I do wish they had chicken Samosas, but the beef ones were very good!

Yelp
Took my grandpa here for dinner. We enjoyed everything we ate. Spice level was good. Service was relatively fast. Good vibes too.

Yelp
I just want to go on and hammer this out while it's fresh in my memories. The wife and I stopped in after wanting to find another go-to Indian place, because we missed out on their absolutely delicious foods for the first 30 years of our life... "Uncultured swine" We Yelped several places and Tandoor got good reviews, so we gave them a shot. I am SO glad we did. The service was very friendly and welcoming, the wait was next to nothing for the exorbitant amount of food we ordered, and every single bite was flavorful, fresh, expertly prepared, and seasoned Oh-So well! We ordered the Chicken Pakora appetizer. It was very good chicken bites served with two excellent dipping sauces. One was a brown, more oily dish, with excellent flavors and spices (not hot). The other dip was a green, floral tasting excellent dip that I actually liked very much. Unfortunately I waited until the very last piece of chicken to mix the two dips together on the same bite and man, was that great too?! Then on to our entrees! To the table arrived our standard Chicken Tikka Masala (in medium, or 3 of 6 spiciness), which was SUPERB! The seasonings and flavor of the creamy sauce paired so well with the deliciously prepared, tender, juicy chicken bites within. Yurm. We also got the Chicken Vindaloo, in a spicier mix (4 out of 6 heat level). It was also extremely delicious and flavorful with an ever so slightly spicier tongue-feel. It came in a darker, red sauce where the Tikka came in a more orange/yellow sauce. Both were topped with fresh cilantro and were SO good. If you're a spice head like me, neither were very hot. They definitely had a bit of heat, but nothing too bad. Oddly enough, the spiciest thing we ate all night was the Vegetable Biryani rice. But it was SO GOOD. The BEST addition. The single best Indian rice dish we've had anywhere! They seasoned up the rice super well, so it was not your typical white rice, but threw in the whole garden! There was onion, peas, green beans, corn, cauliflower, mushrooms (tho not many), carrots, and somehow, I think a chunk of tofu also made its way in. We also had the chicken naan and the garlic naan. BOTH were absolutely delicious! We left so full and happy and can't wait to go again! Well done, Tandoor!!
google avatar

Angelwife H.

Yelp
It was just okay. One chicken tandoori. 2 lamb entrees. The lamb meat itself was nice, but the korma and Punjabi curry were both disappointing, after having great Indian food all over the country. Not bad, but not great either.
google avatar

DiAveion M.

Yelp
The food is hot when you get it. It was wonderful. I got a pickup order with no issues. The ambiance when walking in was traditional and family-oriented. Will definitely buy again.

Shan S.

Yelp
Best Indian food in Murfreesboro. Don't waste your time with any place else. I got the Shahi Paneer which comes with rice . And I got garlic Naan. The food is always fresh.
google avatar

Rob P.

Yelp
False Advertising. "LUNCH BUFFET" all over the front windows and door. I go in at 12:30 on a Saturday afternoon to "no buffet; sorry sir." OK, you can scrap the Covid excuse. All the other buffets in town are back open, except KFC. In the meantime, you should probably run a strip of white tape through all your Lunch Buffet signs.
google avatar

Larry C.

Yelp
Total bad by any standard. We ordered Biryani, North Indian Curries as well as South Indian fish. Everything was consistently Bland and Flavorless!
google avatar

Wendy C.

Yelp
First time here I like it good food!! Good customer service. Chicken curry is my favorite

Heidi M.

Yelp
Best Indian restaurant in town! Garlic naan is superb. I've never had anything I don't love here, but the vegetable korma has my heart. Service can be slow, and if you're ordering takeout, expect a wait.
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
Not the only game in town anymore but have always loved the food. Menu has some good choices. Love all the chicken dishes. Papadum and chutney is my favorite appetizer. Service always good. Quiet atmosphere. Thumbs up recommend.
google avatar

Angel L.

Yelp
I've only been there twice, but their food is good and I didn't have any problems. They were friendly and efficient.

Yelp
Tucked away in Murfreesboro, we discovered this delicious, authentic, Indian restaurant. Filled with bold, rich, delightful flavors. We first had Indian food when we lived overseas. The aroma and flavors have lived only in our memories--until now. The food is affordably priced and truly authentic.

AD D.

Yelp
Everything about this place was great-- the food, the presentation of food, service....I thoroughly enjoyed my first visit there Friday and will definitely be back. We had the mixed grill and the vegetarian thali, and I can't wait to return to try other dishes.
google avatar

Jason S.

Yelp
This place is fantastic. Very good food. Curry lamb, tandoori chicken, garlic naan, paneer tiki masala. Can't wait for the next visit
google avatar

Billy M.

Yelp
This has been one of my favorite Indian restaurants in Murfreesboro. The various curries and spiced Indian dishes are absolutely delicious! The spice levels are perfect.

Yelp
For those of us in Middle Tennessee who have been enjoying Indian cuisine for several decades, it's been a long story of a new restaurant opening, then closing, then another one replacing it, and on and on until finally there are now a number of excellent Indian restaurants to choose from, though most are in the Nashville area. When Tandoor opened a few years ago here in Murfreesboro, my wife and I were super excited to have a new Indian place so close to downton. It started out well, but over the past few years, they've only improved their game. The Chicken Tikka Masala, tandoori dishes, samosas and naan are now as good as anything in the greater Middle TN area. Plus the family who run the restaurant are top notch, helpful, friendly and a great asset to the community. My wife and I often get takeout from Tandoor a couple times a week. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough!
google avatar

Anna L.

Yelp
This is hands down the BEST INDIAN FOOD IN THE BORO! I'm not one for free complements... this is amazing! I was a skeptic at first but after eating tonight there is no need to go to any other Indian place near here. Looking forward to trying more on the menu! Really phenomenal (from a critic bc I WILL tell you if it is bad!!!)
google avatar

John N.

Yelp
Recommend the dinner for two. We had a chicken kebab appetizer with papadam. Lamb rogan josh and veggie korma. Medium spice was perfect. Finished with rice pudding and chai tea. Yummy
google avatar

Kris C.

Yelp
The absolute best place to get Indian food in Murfreesboro! The hubs and I walked in one rainy day and have been back several times. The wait staff and owners are wonderful. They answer questions and don't cringe to bad when you mispronounce a few things lol. Heres a tip: start with a 3 if your not into spicy everything else is just a learning extravaganza. Sincerely one stuffed lady
google avatar

Abby G.

Yelp
So deliciously mouthwatering every time!!! Best authentic Indian in town! We've tried several different dishes and still don't have a favorite because all are SOOOO good! The staff are so sweet and kind too
google avatar

Joey B.

Yelp
Second visit: garlic naan and chicken Tikka masala. Tasty on all accounts, no complaints! Price seems to have gone up a smidge, but where hasn't it at this point?
