"The self-proclaimed oldest Indian restaurant in the state of Minnesota (hard to verify, but open since 1982 is no small accomplishment regardless), Tandoor has sophistication befitting its honored elder status. Remarkably good breads (the naans are easy enough to find, but don’t sleep on the elegant, puffy bhatura) are the gateway to this menu, but there’s much to discover. The chicken seek kebabs are ravishingly moist, intensely flavored, and beautifully balanced, and the restaurant’s shahi korma has equal doses of comfort and depth. The crispy pakora is world-class, too. The restaurant’s dining room is warm and cozy, decked out with textiles and knicknacks." - James Norton, Justine Jones

Had an amazing dinner last night. Ordered the combination chicken platter and was absolutely delighted! Everything was perfect, from the portions to the flavor! I was so full about halfway into my meal, but ended up gorging myself because of how tasty it was and still took leftovers home! As this was my first time eating at this restaurant I can not give a full review on the rest of their menu items, but I can 100% vouch for the Chicken platter I had last night. Go and get yourself some GREAT Indian food!

Google
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ **Amazing Authentic Indian Cuisine!** I recently dined at tandoor, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The ambiance was warm and inviting, with beautiful decor that set the perfect tone for a cozy meal. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure we felt welcome and had everything we needed. The food was the real star of the show. Every dish was bursting with authentic flavors and spices. The food tasted like someone’s mother made it. Absolutely delicious. We tried the chicken platter, and non veggie appetizer, all of which were outstanding. Portions were generous, and everything tasted so fresh. If you’re a fan of Indian food or looking to try it for the first time, I highly recommend. It's one of the best Indian dining experiences I’ve had, and I’ll definitely be coming back!

Google
I ordered the mushroom chicken curry and it was amazing! Tasted fresh, had a very loving home-made flavor and feel. The chai tea was also super amazing, super fresh and tasty The staff is very nice and polite! The resturant is very clean and has a nice atmosphere Would definitely come back again

Google
Outstanding restaurant all around! Extremely flavorful Indian dishes, great portions, friendly atmosphere. This place has a great vibe. Superb! Highly recommend.

Google
The interiors are done tastefully. It gives you a nice vibe as you walk in. I ordered a vegetarian Indian Thali. The naan, malai kofta and mixed vegetables were ok. Instead of chana masala boiled dal was served. When I pointed out, I was offered one more portion of the same with a tadka. But by then, I was already finishing. The gulab jamun was served cold and papad and chutney were not served at all. I was not attended after serving the thali and thus all of this could only be pointed out in time. Overall quantity is good and quality and taste is ok. I hope that my experience there was a one off incident. Update: I visited again for dinner and all previous issues were addressed. I am bumping the rating by one. It was Saturday dinner and the place got busy very quickly. Mansa served me both times and she is really attentive and serves with a smile.

Yelp
This place is like the hidden gem of indian food in Bloomington. I loved it so much, the aroma of the food was so strong it just makes your mouth water. My fiance ordered the butter chicken and garlic naan, i ordered the chicken vindaloo with potatoes. I didn't take pictures, but holy moly. This food is so good the potatoes werent overcooked. The chicken was really tender and had an amazing color to it. Overall just amazing fiod. Service was amazing. Our server, I completely forgot to ask for a name(Sorry!!), was so sweet and attentive. I really just love the restaurant. And the best part is the many choices of naan they have. Ive gone to quite a few Indian restaurants and none of them have that much to offer. Another bonus is the mango lassi and smoothie. Its amazing, it doesnt taste like the skin of the mango, and its smooth. Love this place, cant wait to come back to it!!!

Yelp
OMG! I haven't been to this restaurant in over 15 years! Somehow it has gotten even better. Tonight I ordered Lamb Rogan Josh and the Shanghaiyani rice. DIVINE!!! Prompt and friendly service. Simple decor, clean and comfortable. I will be back soon.

Betsey P.

Yelp
The Friday and Saturday lunch buffet here is fantastic. So many different dishes as well as favorites like butter and tandoori chicken and naan. The service is quick and very friendly. Price is reasonable. I try to come every few months. Get the punchcard too!

Yelp
Amazing authentic Indian food!! Our family has been coming here for years and hope to for many more. Started with the veggie samosas, very flavorful with delicious sauces, samosas themselves have a nice crunchy exterior and are well filled. To eat we both got their combo platter meal one in chicken and one lamb, platters were identical besides the meat in a small curry dish but everything tasted amazing. Platter came out plain naan, two pieces of tandoori chicken, vegetables, rice, rice pudding, lentil stew and a creamy sauce that was very good on the chicken. We always get the gulab dessert as well it's warm and sweet and is so delicious. Would recommend!

Malika M.

Yelp
Bad and no quality food They keep heating the same food over and over until it's like showing on plastic That place was good with the old owners

Scott V.

Yelp
Best Indian in Minneapolis!! Good is very good and service is great. If you haven't already tried it - definitely add it to the top of your list.

Clan H.

Yelp
Decent food not really into Indian? Service great. And ambiance chill. Overall pretty good

Tim D.

Yelp
Overall an excellent experience Nice clean restaurant, with great service. An extensive menu with flavors from all over India. The vegetable samosas were very yummy The buttered chicken very flavorful and not bland as some can be. The assortment of chutneys also very nicely done. Next time in the area I will definitely dine here again.

Vyshali M.

Yelp
Garlic Naandidnt even look fresh. The garlic looked gray, like it was spread on and the bread was super thin, and when scooping up the tikka it fell apart. I got 6 pieces of Chicken Tikka Masala! And I asked for medium spice... it was so bland with no kick. It also was so liquidy. My Mango Lassi was only half full. Total rip off and a waste of $$$$! Trader Joe's frozen Chicken Tikka Masala and Garlic Naan is EXPONENTIALLY BETTER. I don't even want to finish the leftovers, but I don't like wasting food.

Andromeda W.

Yelp
Sorry I will NOT order from them ever again!! I ordered from them through GrubHub... They used another name though... Like people won't look up the address. Smh. I ordered the chicken platter.... Really platter?? Hardly. It had a singular tiny chicken thigh cut in half. A tiny condiment cup of chicken curry. Another tiny condiment cup of dal and a chutney. A small scoop of rice and a hefty scoop of mixed vegetables. Some naan that was fully cooked and the "dessert" a couple tablespoons of kheer... They wouldn't give the galub jamun it costs more even though it says either or. Smh... Chicken platter?? Really?? It was more like the scent of chicken. I feel cheated. It wasn't worth it at all. Don't order from them ever!!! It was a joke.

Debi O.

Yelp
Chose this restaurant because we were staying near the airport in Minneapolis. This was really delicious Indian food. I believe it was the owner who seated us , and the entire staff was very attentive. We split some orders- cheese and garlic naan, aloo gobi and a vegetable dish in a creamy sauce I forget the name was. It was delicious. The medium spice was perfect, the rice was so good and the naan is amazing. A very good meal, and I would definitely go there again!

Adrianna M.

Yelp
DO NOT accept a doordash order for this place. Was kept waiting over 20 minutes for an order when there were only two people in the restaurant. No excuse for this

Colleen B.

Yelp
What can I say this is probably where I fell in love with Indian food. There are so many wonderful things here:samosas, mango lassi, onion bhajia, vindaloo, curry, jalfrezi, dal, Chana masala, aloo gobhi, Saag paneer, and all the naans! Good place to start if you've never had Indian and you will love it as others have. They have been around many years and we are so thankful; may they stay for many more to come. Enjoy

Mary B.

Yelp
I recommend the chicken vendaloo and garlic naan, I get this every time and haven't been disappointed yet. The curry is some of the most flavorful ever and the bread is fluffy happiness, a better combination you will not find!

Angel D.

Yelp
"When I first walked in the aroma of spices awakened me! I tried the Chicken Curry and it was amazing, it really opened my eyes. This restaurant is a hidden gem deep in the city. I also had the sweet Naan with coconut and cranberries and it is definitely a must-have!" My 8 and 14 year olds wrote this first review because they were so impressed with their experience

Chato C.

Yelp
Please come here if you are looking for an amazing Indian restaurant! Tiki Masala and Butter Chicken are excellent!

Jake S.

Yelp
Great service, very good flavors, I'd come back! They were going to close for lunch and kept it open to help me out.

Andi D.

Yelp
As someone from out of town I am unable to compare this to other Indian restaurants in the area. That being said, I thought it was great! The papadam was spicier than I am used to, but still good. I had the makhani (sp) chicken and loved it. The bread was great, perfection really, and something that most restaurants dont have in my area. The wait staff was great and I will definitely visit again when in the area!!

Mark O.

Yelp
On the spectrum of Indian restaurants, this place is easily rock bottom. One meat curry dish was on offer--chicken vindaloo. Traditionally, this is a spicy dish with plenty of flavor. Tandoor's variant had none. The two appetizer bins were empty when I got there and were never replenished. The raita had a sour, not savory taste to it. An older lady was hurriedly dropping off checks--I got mine before I finished my first plate. I was en route to the airport which is where I'm writing this review. Still hungry and I suspect better food options won't be available until I land.

Liz L.

Yelp
Great Food, Apathetic (Bold, Italic, Underline) Service. After letting a few months pass by since my last visit, I decided to give Tandoor a second chance--good news is they are consistent with both their food and service. One good, the other terrible. Last time I tried to order something I found on their online menu, which they didn't make anymore and got very testy about the whole ordeal--a great first impression to say the least. This time I timed how long it took to interact with me after being seated (15 minutes). I shouldn't forget to mention that it took an intense stare down to get the attention of the waiter on staff who kept disappearing to God knows where. He kind of hated me for the rest of my visit there, but c'mon, all I expect of a waiter is to occasionally check and see if I have a pulse from time to time or would like an appetizer (and frankly, a samosa sounded pretty damn good!) Once the food came it looked awesome! After the "shade" thrown at me by the waiter, I was half expecting some microwaved concoction or visible spit in my dish--neither of which were present. My Kadhai Chicken dish, which I ordered Medium spicy (To Minnesotan standards--shoulda gone full on hot) was flavorful and had the ginger flavor that took me back to my favorite Indian restaurants out east that gave a damn about their customers. There are places in the cities that serve good Indian food and also treat their customers like guests--this isn't one of 'em: Skip!!

Vidur P.

Yelp
Meh.. very average food... Seen that consistently. I've been here a few times for the buffet and the take away is that there are several places nearby that are far better bang for your buck. The buffet selection is very limited and is heavily customized to suit the local palatte. Having said that i should say that I do not look down upon Americanized variants of Indian food There are several examples of amazingly good restaurants that serve american-Indian cuisine. If you're already here at a table reading this review.. then the samosas, tandoori chicken and gulab jamun are worth trying out Will i go here again? Highly doubtful ...

Marko P.

Yelp
Nasty & Overpriced!! Got take out and the food was crap!! The main course was burnt and so was all the bread!! Tried the buffet - it was horrible. Cold food and half the items were not even on the buffet line. This place is a serious and nasty joke!! The chicken had a stink to it!! Stay far far away from this place. Not even a single place to park. If they would shut down that would be the absolute best solution. Have given this place a try twice and both times it's horrid. Owner never answers or resolved the issue cause he is conveniently NEVER there!!

Joe H.

Yelp
One of the Twin Cities top Indian restaurants. Great weekday lunch buffets. Sometimes great things come in boring red brick façades.

E H.

Yelp
I was trying to get to a different Indian place with a difficult address and ended up here. I've been hungering for some good Indian for months. My Mango Lassi isn't as cold as I'd like it but it's nummy. The decorations are keep mad upscale but the atmosphere isn't snooty. The food was good and I ate it all before I remembered to take a photo.

Matt R.

Yelp
Tandoor is all kinds of awesome. First things first, their mango lassi is delicious. Service is nice and prompt, and yet...we're talking Minnesota. I don't know how anyone can claim this isn't an indian restaurant. It is explicitly South Indian which I'm guessing a lot of people have no idea what that is? South Indian means: spicier, different portion sizes, different seasonings and a different style. This is not the sui generis indian food you get at every indian place across all of america. No. I was pleasantly pleased with the food quantity and quality here, because this is fairly competitive with places like Udupi palace in chicago - which is also a South Indian (hyderabad) restaurant. What does south indian mean? Thankfully: Spicy. Instead of Samosa you see Dosa or Sambusa. Tandoor looks like some random tiny restaurant, but step inside and you're headed to legitimate Indian cuisine. In short, I completely disagree with Claudio. If I come back to Minnesota, I will be coming back here.

Amy R.

Yelp
Met a friend here for lunch. Not bad. I think they have buffet only over the lunch hour. We weren't offered any menus, but the buffet was fine. Naan bread was really good. Nice and chewy like I like it. Tandoori chicken was plentiful compared to other places that run out almost immediately. Excellent cabbage dish that was the chef's special. Vegetarian rice was pretty good as was their yogurt sauce. -Nice little Indian restaurant. -Interesting parking lot -Temperature was a bit warm in the place. -Great service. -Reasonable price, just thought there would be a few more options. No golub jamon which I was looking forward to. Oh well. Not a biggie. I probably shouldn't have it anyway.

Molly B.

Yelp
Tandoor serves my favorite Indian buffet in the Twin Cities. The variety served at the buffet is always well-prepared, well-balanced, and interesting. Never too watery or too hot and food contains right balance of different spices. Many Indian places in town serve carefully prepared meals off the menu but shirk on the buffets. At most of these other places, the food is either so scorchingly hot as to be inedible or so ill prepared as to evoke a barnyard pig trough. My only word of caution is that a few times they have shut the buffet down earlier than stated online.

Donna X.

Yelp
Stopped by for lunch as I was craving some butter chicken on the recommendation from a colleague that this place was good. I had my reservations about it but thought, meh, perhaps I'd be surprised. And I sure was; it was worst than I'd anticipated. Not that it was bad. The buffet selection was poor and naan was not good. There was no organization to what was where, people were standing in piles instead of queues to get to the single curry dish that was available, the cheese looked old and caked. I ate a bunch of basamati rice and a some spinach paneer, then left quickly, sorely disappointed. Reminder: Listen to your gut and don't take the advice of someone who ordered Pad Thai at Applebee's and declared it the best they'd ever had. #fail

Amal I.

Yelp
Buffet tasted really good, wish there was more of a selection though. Ordered mango lassi and the yogurt that they used tasted expired.

Marsha W.

Yelp
I've been coming here for 8 years and love it. If you go for lunch, they have a fab all-you-can-eat Indian buffet. Mango lassi's and chai tea and wonderful. This place is great for vegetarians too- many dishes to try. I love the saag paneer most of all. Also, you can get dishes mild so they aren't burning your mouth. Wait staff is great. Owners are nice. Highly recommend.

Jamie H.

Yelp
Best Indian food! Great service. I have never had a bad experience here! Their buffet is awesome!

Mayur D.

Yelp
Worst Indian food in the area. Minneapolis have plenty of indian restaurants. But, we decided to visit Tandoor because it was very close from where we were staying. We choose the Saturday morning buffet. Big mistake. Empty dining area that was the warning sign but we ignored. More waiters than guests. The food was awful. Very limited choice. The food tasted as if it was leftover from the week. The signature tandoori chicken tasted like charcoal. Overcooked and nasty. Channa chole smelt funky probably stale. Poor family was eating next to us probably didn't know how Indian food tastes so not sure they realized it. When we mentioned to one of the waiters, the owner lady started to argue rudely rather than listening the what we mentioned politely. Do not waste your money on this place. -MD

Julie R.

Yelp
This might just be the best Indian restaurant in Minnesota. The food was fantastic! My husband is English and we have been looking for a great spot for six years. We finally found it! So happy! Everything was great.

Lisa G.

Yelp
We used DoorDash and was excited to try their dishes. Chicken and cheese naan came out burnt as well and we only had three pieces of chicken in our chicken tikka masala. Very disappointed!!

Neha G.

Yelp
Such an awful experience I had today. I ordered vegetarian food tandoor paneer tikka, malai kofta and naan. Paneer was so hard and gravy was too sour of Malik kofta. After I complained, they changed that curry and brought Mutter Paneer (It was so yucky :@) They provide such an unhealthy food. It was frozen food kept from several days. Warming those curry's and putting lot of sticky-oily "Tadka" on top. This are not real Indian food. I'm very very very much disappointed with the food. I complained them again about it and I got to know that most of Indian people are dissatisfied with food here. However, non-Indians who don't know the flavor never complained( Of course, how do they know? poor people) They are MAKING FOOL TO OTHERS and that's upset me a lot.

Aries K.

Yelp
Buffet was subpar... skip it if you can. The food didn't seem fresh. They had only one appetizer

Nate T.

Yelp
I have been eating lunch here for a few weeks now and I am a big fan. Lunch is buffet style so I can come in, eat two plates and get out in about 15-20 minutes which is a big plus for food of this quality. About the food, I think most of it is very high quality. I would like a bit more variety but the things they do have daily are quite tasty. And the prices are a touch high (around 12.95) for a quick lunch. But I gladly pay a couple bucks more for this than some of the fast food combos that are absolute garbage.

Kingvic J.

Yelp
We are Indians who missed Indian food and drove TWO hours there to get food. We ordered Shrimp Curry, Goat Curry, Shrimp Briyani, Chicken Curry, Chicken Sheesh kebab and Naan Bread. it ALL tasted like beach sand! What a horrible disappointment!!! Do they think that just because locals wont know the difference they can serve burnt, overcooked food AND unfathomable meat? They should be embarrassed to even charge anything for this junk.

Roark J.

Yelp
Excellent food and experience. New ownership is very personal and attentive. I will be back when we i travel to MSP.

tim j.

Yelp
So I have to say, I was trying to go to another restaurant, but they were closing for the night. I was hesitant to try Tandoor, bc the reviews were not great. The restaurant was not full and when I walked in, I thought it was buffet only. Do not walk past this gem. They serve off a menu. The waiter was very attentive. The food came out quickly and was delicious. I had samosas, which were tremendous, spicy and flavorful. I also got a chicken curry dish. I will say the heat level is much less than I typically encounter at Indian restaurants, but the flavor was incredible. I left so full and content. Definitely support this family and restaurant. They are nice and the food is worth it.

Serenity N.

Yelp
The food was delicious and prices were reasonable but service was poor. We had to hail the servers, they wouldn't speak directly to the women at our table and took about 15 minutes before they would take our order. The food came out slowly but once it did they were a bit more attentive. Hopefully the next time service will be better.

Chris D.

Yelp
This place was great! I don't get the negative reviews though. Trust me everyone; I travel all over the world and this was great Northern Indian grub.

Anil M.

Yelp
Been there for dinner last night and it's a ridiculous waste of money. I am surprised with the review of ppl, who say the Biryani is amazing and what not. Guess they have never eaten how a Biryani tastes like. Never seen Chicken Tandoori with Lentil till last night, was a first time there. Also the super stingy staff, crying for a cup of extra Raitha. It was a waste of $50 there

Divyansh A.

Yelp
This was an awesome restaurant that hit all the flavors! Made me feel like I was back in India!! Loved their chicken biryani, sheesh kebab, mango lassi and gulab jamun! If you're ever in Bloomington or even driving by, this place is a go-to. Even in covid-19, they modified all their operations so the staff were in PPE and ready to serve you with so much kindness!

Mike B.

Yelp
Disclaimer: This is my neighborhood Indian joint and I'm biased. I have been here over 100 times. I do not know if Tandoor measures up to world class Indian food, nor do I give a flying f*ck. This is my local place. I've been to other buffets and sit down Indian dinners in town, and they're fine, but never had anything to persuade me to stop coming to Tandoor. Everytime I try another buffet I feel like an adulterer. Buffet recommendations: When it's on, the Egg Curry. Bone-in chicken and tandoori chicken are always on the menu and good safe plays. Dinner recommendations: I tend towards the vindaloos, daal makhani, and the Kaddhai chicken is capable of ripping your throat out. I mean that in a good way. Tandoor gets 5 stars just because. Go Tandoor!

John K.

Yelp
Was feeling like Indian food and had never been here before, despite living nearby, so we decided to try it out. Was not disappointed. I got the Lamb Madras, garlic naan, and mango lassi, and my wife got the Chicken Tikka (which comes with naan) and chai and we both loved our meal. Service was excellent. My water was never empty and I drink a lot whenever I go out so I'm not used to that. We had three different staff checking in on us periodically but not in a way that interrupted our meal. Ambience was fairly quiet but relaxed. Ate too much food but that's my fault, not theirs. Well...kind of theirs...

Dustin M.

Yelp
The buffet food was ok, relatively fresh, so it gets a star...but it was just lacking in any heat or spice but I guess they're trying to appeal to the masses. At least offer one item that is spicy. The biggest problem was that they didn't even acknowledge that I was there, even though they seated me...never offered a drink at all, I wasn't even given water. It's not like they were busy. Now I see why.

Mudit K.

Yelp
Fairly decent ambience and Indian food. Went once for lunch buffet and liked it a lot. Retuned for dinner and liked it even more. Authentic Indian dishes, liked Bindi Masala and it was made North Indian style, dry and non-sticky! Will come back soon when in town again.

Barb O.

Yelp
I had a fabulous takeout experience. It was an impulse stop as I'm in town in business and I get tired of the same old hotel or chain food. I asked for a recommendation in the curry options and went with the chicken makhani, hot. Then gentleman who took my order was very friendly and helpful. My order was ready within 15 minutes. It was carefully packaged (important, if you've experienced the opposite with takeout you know what I mean), and the portion was very generous. More than I could eat and I eat like a man! The gentleman who brought my food up was equally as friendly and attentive. While I didn't dine in, I was intrigued by some of the beautiful paintings on the walls. If I'm in this neighborhood I will be back to try other menu options. Oh--and the prices are very reasonable, $11 for my meal.
