Google
Definitely one of the best indian restaurants in the area. There may not be as many options as to the variety of dishes served, but almost all the entrees we tried were prepared well with perfect amount of oil and spices. Meat and vegetables were cooked to perfection. Liked the okra fries very much as it is difficult to find them in any other restaurant. Highly recommended!

This place is great. We have been to a number of Indian restaurants but none like this one. It is an upbeat and trendy fast food style indian restaurant. The food was outstanding. They had a shredded fried okra appetizer that was very tasty. I had the chicken Biryani and the heat level was good. It was also the slow heat that builds the more you eat. Very good, the only downside is that there is currently only this one location. Hopefully this will expand. The service was also excellent. Top shelf!

Google
Wow, fantastic service! The woman working the resister was very clear and educated on the menu to help us on our first visit! Very quick service. Sat down and had found within 10 mins. Indian food was really good and everyone enjoyed their okra fries. Would recommend. For three of us, the bill was over $40. Was pricey, but with the service and quality of food, worth it.

Google
Food definitely was not tasteless, I loved the fact that it wasn’t extremely spicy perhaps that is why some people may have an issue with it. However they need to realize many people in the US don’t eat extremely spicy food. I love a good flavor but hate it when my mouth is burning. I loved the ginger and mint tea. Must try. Loved the samosas and really enjoyed them. Kabobs with brown rice were great as well. I would definitely stop by here again when I am in the area. Linger service was really nice and one of the guy was going to every table to check on their food. Very clean place.

Google
Nice place to be with friends…. They have got the giant tandoor oven too but I didn’t like the food that much. It was good but I cannot rate it perfect…. The ambiance is awesome, price reasonable.

Google
First time trying Indian cuisine. I was not disappointed. Everything was clean from the parking lot to the bathrooms and dining area. They have impeccable customer service. I was greeted and offered samples of the sauces. The lobby was neat to look at, it was vibrant. And the food was so delicious! I can't wait to come back and try more.

Google
Very high marks for presentation. The taste though varied. Some items were spectacular, e.g. Chicken wings, veggie biryani and samosa chat. The do it yourself bowls were not upto the mark, the curries were a little raw to my taste while naan and rice were cooked perfectly.

Miguel Chang

Google
Good place for some Indian food. Ordered the chicken Kerala coconut curry, comes with rice and naan. The packaging was a little bit messy because when I opened the container all the sauces spilled out. I got the garlic naan which was tasty, however the rice was dry and the curry was watery. Overall, the food was okay so will probably try something different next time.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this place. Affordable. Authentic. Warm and welcoming staff. I am heartbroken that this placed has closed.

Yelp
This place was WONDERFUL. We drove to Knoxville from Pigeon Forge specifically to eat here, since none of the other Indian restaurants in the area were even open for business that day. I hope some of them read this and they stop closing their restaurants on the same day. With all of the tourists, they're missing out on business. But, I digress. The place was empty when we arrived for an early dinner, but we both prefer it that way. The place is well lit and I like that the tables aren't crammed all throughout, which makes for a very comfortable dining experience. (Side note: the bathrooms are also very clean, for anyone who might be wondering). It's a quick casual style restaurant, but don't think for one second that they're sacrificing flavor in ANY way, because they definitely are not. The menu is limited, but there are several favorites to choose from. The guy at the counter that took our orders was really friendly. They give you a number to take to your table, and bring your food to you when it's ready. Speaking of food, we DEVOURED ours, and it was DIVINE. Their tikka masala sauce is mouth watering--I'm literally drooling as I write this, it was THAT good. I got the chicken tikka masala (my favorite/go-to, although there are several Indian dishes that I like), and my man had the saag paneer, and we each got some naan (mine was garlic, his was plain). We each tried each other's food, so I can tell you that both the saag and the masala were delicious. Whether you're new to Indian food, or a veteran foodie, you should stop here.

Yelp
Tandur is one of those places you have in your back pocket to choose from when you're out and about and need a place to get good food quickly that isn't just fast food. I have had a pleasant visit to Tandur every time I've come, which has been several occasions. Today, my family and I came to Knoxville for a few things and while we were at the mall, my kids got something to eat, but I didn't care for any of the options there, and not to mention I don't have as many options for places to eat since I have a gluten allergy. I stopped here and wanted to get something different than my usual Veg Biryani Bowl. The man at the register asked if I needed any help with the menu and I told him my dilemma. He was so kind and gave me the gluten free menu to look at as well as asked if I wanted to try some of the sauces I was deciding between. I didn't know they did that so that was cool to find out that you can sample the sauces to see if you like the taste and spice level! I decided on the saucy entree of the coconut curry, white basmati rice and roasted veggies. If you're GF like me and didn't know, you can ask for double rice in place of the naan bread at no additional cost, too ;) My two boys like the garlic naan so I got it for them since I wasn't too hungry for double the rice. The food was fresh, hot and absolutely delicious! Another positive experience here. I have to give a special shout out to the employee working the register too--he was exceptionally nice and helpful!

Megan E.

Yelp
The best Indian food in Knoxville. Tandur has the convenience of a take out or fast food place but the taste of sit down home cooked meal. We got the Tikka Masala and lamb kebabs.. both were wonderful. So much delicious food for such a great price!

Vladmir T.

Yelp
Great Food, Great Service, Clean Place! When you arrive you are immediately greeted by a friendly employee asking if it's your first time. If it is they direct you to the screen on the wall where you can see pictures of the food by clicking on each item which helps non Indian people like me figure out what to order since I do not know what most of the stuff is otherwise. Dishes full of flavor are sure to please. Samosa Chaat is full of flavor and a little spice to make you smile. Tikka Masala is tasty and an easy go to order as well. Great flavor here for sure! This is also the cleanest Indian restaurant I have ever seen! Private parking lot makes parking easy!

Yelp
Ambiance - It has beautiful ambience , I loved the creative setup , some of the decor pieces just pop ups. Lightning is soft and welcoming . Service - people were very friendly . We were the only ones so can't comment more on this . Got our food very quick too. Seems like it's owned by Patel brother's and chef is Mr. Hari . He wrote some cookbooks . Food- We ordered Mumbai veg wrap. Flavor wise it was good but the wrap had very less veggies and too much rice which we didn't like much . Second order was paneer kabab. I like the paneer but it was still not 5 review worth kabob.

Yo Z.

Yelp
Clicked taste great, avoid lamb ball, it doesn't taste like lamb. Very small portion, it's should cost 5 dollars not 12.95

Sneha W.

Yelp
The options are small. This place is basically like chipotle style for Indian cuisine and only Indian options. The to go boxes are very very small. I wish they had option for larger portions for the price they charge. The food is intact good and taste really well and fresh.

Kyle J.

Yelp
Really friendly staff food is is good. Veggie Samosas- Possum little appetizers I would recommend anyone try them they taste great if you determine the sauce that come with Garlic Naan Bread- Awesome Brad goes great with the meals tasted pretty good Chicken tiki masala- chicken tiki masala was cooked perfectly rice tasted good the sauce taste the good chicken was good. The only thing I think is they need to add a little bit more chicken to it didn't seem like there's a lot of chicken that came with it. Also they don't spice it up for you they let you spice it yourself I think in traditional Indian kitchens you can pick like what kind of spice level you want. They didn't have that here so it's kind of weird. Overall good experience there the staff was very friendly the food was very good I wouldn't really change too too much about the place location is great.

Brittany L.

Yelp
It was alright. Enough to satisfy a craving and it was definitely sour and spicy. The chicken was kinda dry and it doesn't look like a lot of food but it was very filling. They have quick service too. Food is reasonably priced for convenience. Good naan bread too.

Pamela D.

Yelp
Ok for express Indian food. Kinda overpriced but they're very friendly and keep the restaurant clean.

Astrid C.

Yelp
I recommend especially if . just trying Indian for the first time. They have small menu that is not overwhelming and they are super friendly to help yiu navigate it.the restaurant is really modern and feels like Bollywood which is fun.

George L.

Yelp
They have plenty vegetarian options the smosas are great. I was very disappointed with the hours they are not open all day anymore I was literally waiting outside the door while workers were inside solely doing online orders and I was not allowed to go inside. But I was able to order on my phone and then they brought me the food outside it was frankly ridiculous

Laura M.

Yelp
Fast food Indian done right. The staff were wonderful, very helpful and solicitous about my need to be gluten free, to the point of not being sure if I should eat here due to the use of flour that would lead to very small levels of cross contamination. There were a lot of gluten sensitive selections available. I had the saag paneer with brown rice and okra fries, which were both delicious. My friend had chicken tacos and okra fries and loved both. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable.

Cory B.

Yelp
My fiance and I went here for lunch today and we were not disappointed. I knew they had added tacos recently, so I tried the chicken tacos and I was not disappointed. The flavors were great as the chicken had the right amount of curry, and the veggies and crispy topping were on point. Also the jalapeño raita and garlic cilantro pesto were a great pairing on the taco as well. The okra fries as the side was a perfect complement to to tacos. My fiance got Tikka Masala, and it was great too. The sauce was seasoned to perfection and the perfect amount of spice for her as she does not like things too spicy. We also got a side of garlic Naan which of course was amazing. I dipped it in her entree sauce...so good! I highly recommend this place, and we will be back!

Day M.

Yelp
It's always great to have a business lunch that proves to be both quick and tasty. That describes experience that I had at Tandur Indian Kitchen today. My associate and I tried two of their dishes, the Tikka Marsala and Korma. We were able to accomplish all of our goals for the meeting, and enjoy a wonderful meal that was worth bragging about. Two thumbs up to the staff at Tandur Italian Kitchen!

Carla C.

Yelp
I just didn't enjoy my experience there. It may be only my opinion, but I was disappointed with the fried okra...it was not conventional...don't be fooled. I wish I could be more specific, but me or my family were not happy with the food, service, or the atmosphere.

Miguel L.

Yelp
Good place for some Indian food. Ordered the chicken Kerala coconut curry, comes with rice and naan. Yelp
I have had Tandur Indian Kitchen on my radar for quite some time. While in the area with no ideas, we realized that we were right up the road. Not so familiar with Indian food we really appreciated the ease or ordering off thier menu. We ordered the Kadai and the Kerala Coconut Curry both with Chicken. Both dishes were bursting with flavor. Indian food doesn't lack seasoning or spices that is for sure. The flavors stick with you as well. We really enjoyed both dishes. The ordering process was quick and easy and the employees that we dealt with were awesome. Fast friendly service that serves food of this quality was a win win experience for us. Tandur Indian Kitchen is going in the rotation for us and highly recommended if you haven't tried it.

Diane H.

Yelp
I tried this for the first time at lunch one day. It had been highly recommended by several people It was OK, but my food was not even lukewarm. I had the shish kebab plate and I liked the flavors ok, but the chicken was dry. The food is prepared ahead of time so it did not have that fresh taste The sauce was delicious Service is friendly and fast, but I'm not sure if I will go back. Kind of pricey for the quality.

Sowmya L.

Yelp
Anytime we are near this year, we make sure we try this place! The kadai paneer is to die for! They also got vegan options ! I really love their style! Unlike typical Indian restaurants , they have their food a little Americanized ! Surprisingly in a good way! Do try it! I am Not a fan of their biryani ! I mean it's not bad! But it just not biryani. Lol! I felt like a regular masala rice but my brother did like it! The coconut curry with rice was also good!

Yelp
A friend of mine that lives in Knoxville had mentioned Tandur Indian Kichen a few times and this weekend, I had convinced a few of my friends to make the drive to Knoxville from Chattanooga to try this place. And wow ... We were really surprised on how good the Indian dishes were. Going in, I had low expectations despite the high praises I've received for this place. As you walk in, you will notice that the menu is posted over the order counter and uses a creative approach. Tandur's menu offers a variety of entrees with a selection of your protein such as Shrimp, Cage Free Chicken, Tofu or vegetarian paired with a good selection of different Indian sauces made to order. Your selection can be ordered spicy or mild. The customization process (offering different sauces and proteins) makes a huge difference by providing great options. The one feature that really surprised me was the two selections of Indian wraps offered. One friend had ordered the Madras Shrimp wraps and they say it was excellent. I ordered the Punjab Cage Free Roasted Chicken wraps and raved about them. The wraps are stuffed with rice and Indian spices and are excellent in every aspect. I never had masala chips before but they are really different-shaved in small stringy pieces and tasty. Entrees come with a choice of Saffron basmati or brown rice and fresh naan bread, and you can even order kebabs with rice, vegetables and chutney. Two types of Biryani bowls are on the menu. A bonus for me was the Mango Lassi selections on the menu. This Indian food is excellent, service was spot on and everything on the menu is healthy and of high quality. We [I] will return without a doubt. For more information on their menú, they have a touch screen where you can read the ingredients. P.S. I had all the means to take a picture of my food but that did not happen. It was too delicious. More reasons to go back and update my pictures.

Yelp
I rarely see Indian food places in the states that are this good. I am so glad to have found this food place. I tried the chicken korma (flavorful creamy curry) that is served with a nan bread (regular or garlic of your choice) and rice. Korma curry is not spicy but very flavorful. Nanchos are chips served with curry sauce and your choice of protein. I highly recommend this if you are sharing this with someone. The chicken biryani bowl (seasoned rice) was nice but not one of the best dishes that they offer. Rather get the tikka masala curry. The mango lassi they sell is ok and not great. They offer indoor and outdoor seating. Unlike other Indian places, you have to choose a curry bowl or seasoned rice bowl with your choice of protein. The staff is professional and is doing a good job maintaining the place neat and tidy. Dedicated parking is available (not street parking) COVID UPDATE: The employees are wearing masks and there is a handing sanitization station.

Janessa S.

Yelp
3 stars for the service only! The employees were super friendly but the food was not good for the price. I got my son a small side of rice and chicken(he's 1) and myself the tiki masala with a fountain drink and somehow it came out to $29?!?!? I didn't even like my meal.. I've had Indian cuisine before and this was totally fast food type. Sorry guys.. you're really good at customer service but the food is too much.

Erika M.

Yelp
Indian street food meets fast casual. Sounds too good to be true, but it's not my friends. And not just your ordinary fast casual. Throw quality into the mix and you've got yourself Tandur. You can tell they use legit ingredients and real spices. I love the open kitchen concept with the tandoor ovens. I love the make your own bowls. I enjoy all of the sauces, but my favorites are the kadai and the tikka Masala. I almost always order paneer no matter what I order and it's cooked perfectly. Their menu is broad enough to suit a family of four that includes a spice lover, an adventurous eater, a vegetarian, and a picky eater! That's no small feat. The interior decor is bright and modern. It's always clean and the staff is helpful and patient as you try to narrow down your options. The portions are generous for the prices. They recently added tacos to the menu that I'm super excited to try. Oh, and like all of the other reviews say get the okra. It's delicious! Their take-out options are quickly prepared, packed well, and still hot when you get them home for dinner.

Joyjeet G.

Yelp
Just okay! The ambiance is very nice but the quality of food is not that great for the price. The kabob was okay, but Biriyani was no we're close to being an authentic Indian preparation - it was just rice stir-fried with Indian spices and few pieces of shredded chicken on top. Will not go back, and will not recommend if you're looking for authentic India food.

Zack S.

Yelp
Good stuff. If you're familiar with Moe's or Willy's, this restaurant is an Indian food version of it. The food was good, and the staff were very helpful in explaining what everything was. There were people of numerous ethnicities eating in, so hopefully the fact that folks of Indian descent eat here indicates it's good stuff. Portion size was a bit small for my tastes as compared to the cost, but maybe Indian food is more expensive to make. Hard to say. I'd recommend it.

Jasmine H.

Yelp
Wow! Great first time experience. Can not wait to go back. The restaurant itself is very appealing so that was a good start. The food...the food was amazing. I ordered the chicken coconut curry with basmati rice. I also ordered the veggie naan-chos. I was very hesitant ordering it but WOW! Not only does it taste great it looks so pretty that I didn't even want to eat it. Overall the employees were very nice, food was amazing, restaurant was very clean, prices were also really good even though there is a slight up charge due to covid -19 but definitely understandable. Will be eating here again and will recommend my friends and family!

Adventure P.

Yelp
This was our first time here. We came on Labor day and they were slammed before we arrived and were overwhelmed with the business and ran out of what We desired to order and the place looked like a disaster. We did noticed the employees while overwhelmed and behind kept their cool and apologized for the overall experience and promised our next visit would be much better and even provided us with 2 free entree coupons. We returned today and were given the VIP treatment by the manager and was even provided with their okra fries in addition to the free entrees. It may appear as if this 5 star review was "bought" with free coupons... Actually this 5 star review is in regards to the way a negative experience was turned into a positive one and the quality of today's experience which includes the customer service, decor, and most of all the food was very good!

Yelp
I was feeling Indian fare after driving to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park on a brisk Thursday in March 2019. I looked up the best Indian restaurant that Knoxville had to offer. I assumed that Tandur Indian kitchen was an authentic Indian sit down restaurant, full of aromatic flavors and comfortable surroundings. I came here around 6pm and found out that this place is basically a typical fast food joint - at least that's what the restaurant set up looks like. No wait staff, just a fast food counter type restaurant, and a plethora of tables and chairs, with a menu you that stares back at you overhead like at McDonalds or Burger King. Not that I am complaining, I just thought this place was a real restaurant, till I stepped in. I should have looked at the photos on yelp, but it is what it is. For the most part though, I wanted life to be easy. It was a take out affair and spent at least $20 easy. The prices were pretty much on par with what I am seeing elsewhere in the United States. I decided to choose this Indian restaurant for my dinner option just because it has a 4.5 star average rating and it seemed like the place to go for excellent Indian cuisine. They weren't wrong about that, but just a little disappointed that it wasn't a sit down typical Indian restaurant. I guess I was glad to have my meal back in my hotel room. Nice and private. For the most part though, it was a quick transaction that was delicious and very much satisfying. If you're in the area, consider trying this place. It's like ordering fast food at the counter, but they do Indian cuisine at its best. Their menu seemed rather simplified, but I guess that's what's popular around Knoxville, Tennessee. You pick what you want and they will make it for you. I basically ordered chicken vindaloo with rice. It came with naan, which I asked for garlic naan. Then I ordered an extra order of rice on top of that. With vegetable samosas. You can't go wrong with extra rice, especially when you have a lot of curry or spicy Indian sauce to mix in for a savory concoction! While it probably would have been an interesting ambiance to have Indian cuisine in a fast food setting, I guess I was better off having dinner at the hotel. It was almost like being in a Pizza Hut with a restaurant attached to the kitchen. There was air condition and the restaurant itself was clean and optimized for your satisfaction. The overall experience here at Tandur Indian Kitchen was good and casual. They are located at 6502 Kingston Pike, Knoxville Tennessee. They accept major credit cards, which is always a good thing. They also accept cash as well. They have a private parking lot for anyone and everyone who drives. Not sure about public transportation services here in Knoxville, but best believe if you love Indian cuisine, you should come to sample some of these good stuff! If nothing else, uber and lyft can be your source of transportation to get to Tandur Indian Cuisine restaurant. The staff here At Tandur Indian Cuisine restaurant was friendly and casual. I am trying to do a food challenge goal with Indian cuisine in all 50 states. Picked up Tennessee here at Tandur Indian Kitchen and I'm glad that I picked up Tennessee the right way and the right place! For the most part though, the naan was served dry like crackers in a way. Thought naan bread was more like pita bread than crackers. I combined all the rice and the chicken vindaloo into one gigantic concept. It was one of the highlights of my trip. I dug into the veggie samosas first. They were lite and delicious. Afterwards, the naan to bridge the gap for the last course - the chicken vindaloo. I do love Indian cuisine and my stomach and taste buds love it. The chicken vindaloo was epic and delicious. I can say that with absolute certainty. Although I didn't dine inside the restaurant that time, I'm sure it's an experience too. While Indian cuisine isn't cheap, the spices and the nature of Indian food will blow you away. I would like to recommend this restaurant to you, if you are in the Knoxville TN area. 4.5 average yelp rating can't be bad! 4.0 stars for the overall experience. 2.5 stars for the fast food counter experience. Didn't expect it to be like this. Oh well. 4.5 stars for the food. 4.0 stars for the service. Quick and memorable. Support local! B

Yelp
First time trying Tandur and being as I have ran the figurative Indian restaurant gauntlet both inside and outside the US, I can say I am rather particular when it comes to Indian food. With it being Christmas Eve, there wasn't really a crowd and I can admire they closed at 2pm today so the staff can spend today and tomorrow with their families. I ordered a bowl of vindaloo and chicken as my protein choice, brown rice, and garlic naan. The gravy of the curry had a nice flavor, with the tang from the vinegar you would expect from a vindaloo, but unfortunately lacked in the spice department. Or maybe I'm just used to eating blazing hot curries often? Regardless, it was a nice composed dish. My mom had the chicken tikka masala with brown rice and garlic naan and she enjoyed it. I did try the gravy from her dish and it was very good. The tikka masala would probably be my go to for any return trips and if I want spicier vindaloos or even madras, Sitar and Bombay Palace can fill that void. Prices were reasonable: 2 entrees with 2 drinks totaled $31 so not extraordinarily expensive. Staff was also incredibly friendly.

Yelp
Nice and Clean building with fast tasty food! Superb quality! If you like to venture out your taste bud range. This place is a must!

Yelp
For an Indian restaurant creating a market for Knoxville, that didn't previously exist, Tandur does it right. Instead of doing the overrated valentine's cliché dinner at some fancy restaurant, we instead opted to check out Tandur because it caught both of our eyes when they opened. I think that Tandur took over an old Wendy's? I'm not positive, but it definitely used to be a fast food joint. With it they do update the interior and also put in a couple of tandoors to cook naan the correct way. Another thing to mention is that they have a touch style menu on the back wall if you can't see the menu from the line. But, their menu isn't that big so that shouldn't be the biggest problem. So let's get to the food. We ordered two entrees and also an appetizer. We shared the Chicken Samosa, which was really delicious, and I think was the best out of all the three dishes. It came with two sauces, one sweet and one more of a yogurt type of sauce. I ordered the Kerala Coconut Curry and my valentine ordered the Vindaloo. Let's just say that the Vindaloo is spicy, so if you're not trying to eat anything spicy I would suggest to order something else. It was too spicy for her, so I switched with her and she thoroughly enjoyed the Kerala Coconut Curry as it wasn't too spicy. But even though that it isn't spicy, it was well seasoned. If you're up in the air, I would recommend this one over the Vindaloo. Overall, this place is great because it's not the traditional Indian restaurant where you have a bigger menu with more options. I think this place is more of a fast food type of spot. I don't quite necessarily think that a customer needs to come in and sit in. It can definitely be a take out spot just as much as it is a sit down.

Jared M.

Yelp
The restaurant looks good inside and is very clean; love the feel of this building that they re-purposed from the previous place. I love the wraps here; not sure how authentic it is in reference to being a true Indian dish but it is still really good. The tofu wrap in particular is my fav. I enjoy the chips that come with it but not so much the bean salad. The okra app is kind of spicy so beware. This is a firm 4/5. Will continue to go back until the quality lapses (which I hope it does not!) A couple of FYIs: They have the spices along the wall so you can learn about them while you order. The staff is helpful to answer questions if you're new as well.

Yelp
We like Indian food. But, usually, that involves either a buffet or a regular full service dinner. I don't usually like the buffets -- it's the run-of-the-mill stuff and there's a temptation to overeat. Also, I always need a nap or a Starbucks after an Indian buffet! It's just so heavy. This place is different. It reminds me of Zoes, Noodles, or Pollo Tropical because it combines a cool (or in this case, hot!) ethnic menu with a modern fast-casual design. The restaurant has a very pleasing interior design. It's uncluttered, clean, and flows well. The menu features the usual array of Indian dishes (tikka masala, coconut curry, etc.) and drinks. They have a nice beer selection with some unique local varieties as well as Indian beer. Overall, the food tasted great. I feel like it was presented well and portion sizes were normal compared to other options at this price point (i.e. Zoes). Also, they have fast and efficient service. That said, it may not be a "good deal" compared to Indian buffets. But, think of it this way -- If you go to Panera, it's not a good deal compared to Golden Corral. However, that doesn't mean you're going to leave hungry or not get a good meal. P.S. For anyone with allergies (my kids have a gluten allergy), they are good about disclosing which items are gluten free or otherwise contain an allergin. Give Tandur a try!

Yelp
Tried this for lunch. Casual-fast Indian-- great idea. If it were closer to our home I'm sure we'd go more often. We had two different curry bowls, one with chicken and the other shrimp. We both liked them and the meats were good (shrimp not overcooked-- rare in places like this!). I would say, next time I'll get white rice; the brown rice was, as is often the case it seems, a little dry/crunchy. Maybe that's the intrinsic properties of brown rice? Anyway, I'd prefer softer rice. The dish came with naan (tasty; a little thinner than most naan) and some pickled veggies. I wish they had had a "sauce bar" with chutney or pickled limes, etc. But overall, no complaints. Would go again if I wanted a quick, simple and less expensive Indian meal.

Yelp
Very disappointed when we ate there. We had driven out of our way on our trip back from a Gatlinburg to stop by. This is an interesting idea, limited menu where you can mix a protein with your preference for curry sauce. Served with rice, naan bread and a veg. Restaurant was clean. Service was very pleasant. The main reason to go to an Indian restaurant is for the delicate and tasty food, multiple layers of taste with a little spiciest to top it off. While the food was prepared well, the taste was off. It lacked the subtlety we were looking for. In essence, this is Indian food for Americans, lacking authenticity but with spice. Not recommended unless they redo their recipes.

Yelp
Have been going to Tandur since I was in college at UT, and the owner, workers, cooks, and everyone taking care of the restaurant is so kind, receptive, warm, and hospitable! Love going in, and have even started ordering curbside when the dining room is closed! Be understanding because they were extremely short staffed, but if you're patient, you will have and incredible experience and even better Indian food! Also, the Okra fries w/ lime juice and the vindaloo w/ tofu are incredible!

Yelp
This place was very OK! I guess that's what I should have expected from a fast food Indian restaurant but my affinity for Indian cuisine wouldn't allow me to expect anything less than amazing What I will say I loved about this place was the decor. The ambiance was full of color and very vibrant. The food, however, missed the mark for me. I ordered the shrimp masala- mixed veggies- and naan. This of course came with rice. I told the gentleman who took my order that I loved aloo gobi peas and wanted to know if they had something similar. He suggested i get the veggies and simply mix them in with my shrimps sauce. Listen. Those veggies were reminiscent of the veggies you would find in the frozen section of your local grocery store. I threw it in the trash. The shrimp was ok. The naan was the highlight because I was able to dip it in the sauce. That being said, the service I received was well enough. I just wish the food had more flavor.

Yelp
Good fast casual spot with a lot of options. We tried the curry with chicken-recommend, the vindaloo with lamb-not recommended and my daughter (8) had the chicken quesadilla with rice -recommend. I am a huge vindaloo fan and while the spice was spot on, I was disappointed that the lamb in my dish were meatballs versus chunks of lamb meat as I am accustomed to. Furthermore the meatballs lacked anything in terms of flavor. Versus the chicken curry was quite good and my picky daughter ate all her food including the rice which was very good and came with each dish. The service and atmosphere is great and I would highly recommend it for a quick fix if you crave Indian cuisine.

Yelp
Just came back from Tandur. I have always driven by this place on Kingston Pike and decided to pull in for a quick take out lunch. First of all they closed off most of the booths so you can eat in there if you want but not feel like it's crowded. Now for the food...Since this was my first time here, I decided to go with what they were advertising on the picture - Chicken Street Tacos with Okra fries. OMG, this is out of this world good! If you love tacos, and spicy food, then you will love this! Don't order if you don't like spicy food because these tacos have a kick! They were made well and didn't fall apart when eating and had the perfect amount of heat. Okra fries, that sounded interesting....when I put them in my mouth they were thinly sliced, seasoned and fried okra and boy were they out of this world. I'm not a huge okra fan but I can't wait to go back for more okra fries! Next time I'll try the garlic naan with basmati white rice and some sort of chicken curry that the others have posted. I literally cannot wait to come back. If you order togo, they will run the food out to your car. Great service, clean inside and I will definitely be back! Great foodie find in Knoxville!

Yelp
We were in town and came by Tandur for lunch. This is a new Chipotle-style concept, and unlike your typical old school Indian restaurant. It's fast casual, and you get to pick your base (rice bowl, naan sandwich, etc) and protein. The nice thing is that there are a variety of meat options, and even 2 vegetarian options (paneer or tofu). I tried the veggie samosa, chicken kadai, paneer tikka masala, and the spiced okra fries. The samosa wasn't bad, but the best appetizer to get are the spiced okra fries. You've probably tried fried okra at a southern restaurant before, but this is a totally different concept. These aren't covered in batter. They are thin, light, and crispy. They are truly addictive and definitely worth trying. The chicken kadai was very flavorful and had a good amount of spice to it. The paneer tikka masala was also great. I like that you have your choice of rice type and your choice of naan (plain or garlic). The ginger lemonade was also quite good. They also sell lassis and have craft beers on draft. I really liked the modern décor of the place as well. Tandur is worth visiting, whether you are new to Indian food or a seasoned diner.

Yelp
I don't often hand-out 5 star reviews, but Tandur earned it! Before going, know that this is fast food Indian (something I've never seen before). This isn't a truly authentic Indian experience. Having said that, it's delicious! Several of my closest friends are Indian and I've come to like chicken tikka masala. Tandur had it on the menu and it didn't disappoint. Reading through some.other reviews, I saw complaints about Tandur's naan. Too this...too that. Really?! It's bread, people. And it was good! The restaurant itself was nice, new and very clean. Tandur will be a regular stop for me and I look forward to my next visit!

Yelp
Horrible service. Here's the story: I had family coming into town and wanted to have lunch ready for them when they arrived. I was new to Knoxville and thought I'd give Tandur a try. I placed an order through their website, and they outsourced the delivery to DoorDash. Well, the DoorDash driver never delivered the food and never responded to my texts. I called Tandur to complain. At this point, a reputable business would've done something to try to improve the situation (e.g. offer to prep the order quickly for a different driver). Tandur did nothing of the sort. The manager on duty refused to do anything. He said, "Sorry, man. That's between you and DoorDash." The next day, I looked at my bank account and saw that I was billed for the order. Guess who billed me? Hint: It wasn't DoorDash. Tandur billed me for the order after refusing to take any responsibility for the order not arriving. Not cool. If your organization bills a customer for an order they placed through your website, then your organization better take responsibility if that order is never delivered.

Yelp
We love this place. Traditional Indian dishes like Korma and Tikka are yummy. My favs are the tacos and the fried okra.

Yelp
I came here for lunch and ordered the paneer tikkha masala. The service and ambiance were great. The food was even better. The paneer tikkha was not too spicy and it wasn't overly watery. I opted for the garlic naan that was fresh and crisp. I can't wait to return to try other dishes.

Yelp
**VEGAN REVIEW ** Update and downgrade Ease of ordering a vegan meal depends on who is on the register. It was much harder to order today. They need to offer vegan rice, and vegan mint. Obnoxious music was playing this time. When we explained we were vegans, the staff could not have been more helpful. They showed us photos of the food, and gave us samples of the sauces to try. They even marked a menu with the vegan items. We were able to substitute items replacing non vegan with vegan items. We had tofu shami kebab, okra fries, kadai with tofu, and a side of veggies. The restaurant is very bright, clean, and there's no blaring music

Yelp
It looks like a fast food joint from the outside but it's has the interior of a sit-down restaurant complete with booths, tables, etc. We were greeted immediately upon entering and the young lady had a great smile. She saw that I was debating on what to get (I didn't want a tomato base) and recommended the korma. She also suggested the mango lassa yogurt drink. Loved them both! The portion was great and had a lovely presentation on the dish. I liked the pickled onions added to the side. Everything was very clean and employees were following COVID guidelines. Tables were spread out and marked off. I'd eat here again!
