This new Cantonese gem in Monterey Park offers a vibrant dim sum experience with fresh dumplings and crispy buns, all without the traditional carts.
"Not many dim sum restaurants make dishes in-house these days — most serve frozen wares reheated for service. But that’s not the case at Tang Gong, which is home to the best crispy baked barbecue buns. Another unique item is the purple yam salted egg yolk balls — the exterior tastes like a crispy, hot mochi ball, while the inside oozes out steaming salty egg yolk. Other notable dishes include spicy fried garlic shrimp dumplings and crispy red rice noodle rolls. Dim sum variety during the pandemic is not as vast as it used to be, but the restaurant has been slowly trying to offer more items." - Kristie Hang
"Monterey Park— Cantonese newcomer Tan Gong brings a cart-less dim sum experience to a neighborhood not short on yum cha options. The genre’s greatest hits, like steamed pork buns and fried turnip cakes, are present and accounted for." - Cathy Chaplin
"Signage is up in front of the former Empress Harbor Seafood announcing that Tang Gong Seafood is coming soon." - Jim Thurman
