Google
Chicago hardcore clubber here. Went there during Return To The Source this year, had a great time. Bathrooms were improved from last year, and the experience was great. My only complaints is the tipping system when using cards (20%, 40%, 80%, definitely not standard or professional compared to clubs in Chicago that do 18%, 20%, or 25%), and the old bathrooms need work, otherwise it's a perfect warehouse hideout in Detroit. Use SpotHero to park at 627 E. Milwaukee for easy, cheap parking! I'll definitely be back next year!

Google
This place was soooo much fun! They have a bar (not bad prices), art vendors, and a resale shop with super nice vintage clothes! The vibes were fantastic, people that work here are wonderful, and the music was amazing too! I definitely recommend checking it out!!

Google
Two wonderful shows within a month of each other lead me to say that this is my favorite art gallery really. Now, it's your turn. Go experience this place and tell me that you don't feel the creativity oozing from corner to corner here. Highly recommend that you check this place out.

Google
I'm genuinely baffled by the audacity of a business that thinks it's acceptable to blast music for 14-15 hours straight—disrupting the lives of neighboring tenants and businesses—just because they can afford the fines that come with breaking noise laws. This isn't just about volume; it's about respect for the community and those of us who live and work here. I deserve the basic right to rest in my own home without relentless bass shaking my walls. I'm not asking for silence—just a compromise. Turn it down to a level where you can still enjoy it, but it's not invading the homes around you. And beyond human decency, consider the impact you're having on animals in the area. My dog paces anxiously for hours, stressed by the constant pounding beats. This isn’t just a nuisance—it’s harmful. Please, be a responsible neighbor. Respect the community you operate in.

Art gallery, event space that has it all! With 2 rooms inside you can get the yin/yang effect if ya want to party head to the main ball room where they have a stage for entertainment, space to dance, a sound system that massages your soul! The room adjacent to the bar/bathroom is sometimes used for meditation/relaxing. Take a trip to the attic to shop for thrifty treasures good enough to gift or come down dripping in a time capsule outfit. Outside has a huge garden with seating, a fire pit, a cafe, a dj booth and enough room to dance or shuffle around.

I love the Tangent Gallery. It's a vibrant cultural center in midtown Detroit, popular with musicians and artists. They host a wide range of shows, featuring both local and national touring artists. The drink prices are pretty reasonable too. The only minor issue is the lack of dedicated parking, so it's wise to be mindful about where you park.

Google
Super cool underground feel venue. Tucked sway, this is a mid town gem for shows. Live music, art, all sorts of styles. Well priced bar with a friendly staff and good pricing. Sound in the main gallery has a big feel while having an intimate experience.

Yelp
We had a great time at the witches bazaar fall equinox party. This venue does a great job with the space that they have. There's a really nice bar on the inside and a large space for various types of activities. It was a night full of spells, rituals, having your horoscope read, palm reading, psychics, and even bone throwing. There was an area set up on the inside for vendors. You could also make your own spells and potions. The night ended with a witches' rave! It was most certainly a night to remember. Cheers to the Detroit coven!

Yelp
Super super fun club with a real unique twist! They have two stages, a nice bar, and shopping!! The upstairs is a little antique resale place. It was great! We saw DJ Coffeebeans, and he did AMAZING! Got us all dancing!

Yelp
One of the two best night clubs in the Detroit area awesome traveling acts and multi stage capabilities. Also. Best stocked bar of nearly all clubs in town. ( my budget centered opinion). Try a shot of libilula tequila. So good yet it's their well tequila!!! Most crowds are way chill in this very divey non pretentious space.

Yelp
THIS PLACE HAS BECOME A CESSPOOL! The neighborhood has become unsafe, the roof leaks all over including the electrical areas around the stage. The owner of the Tangent is abusive, and the events, specifically krampus night, the promoter knowingly puts an abuser of women in a krampus costume, then on a throne. Several of the vendors and performers are friends of these stalkers and abusers of women. Their excuse: "it's just business". That's really sad, that business comes before doing the right thing. Don't support abuse! Don't attend, perform or support any events at the Tangent until they clean up their act.

Yelp
One of my fav venues in Detroit for Fury Road / Burlesque/ Static Records / DVS/ Satori Circus events and much more ! We vended there for the first time last night and other that someone stealing something, it'll remain my "go to " place for events and vending ! As a frequent customer, I was impressed with all the help and answers we got from staff to set up our booth ! Fury Road was epic and another great event for the books ! Posting pics to show what an amazing place this is !!!!

Yelp
This was my second time seeing one of my personal fav R&B artists Eric Roberson perform. The venue is off the beaten path but it perfect for and intimate concert. There is no seat too far or too close to the stage. There is a small bar too for cocktails - cool selection and great prices for drinks.

Yelp
I was there for the Detroit Artist Bizarre on Aug 21, 2016. It's tucked in a little industrial area, just outside of Midtown at Milwaukee and Oakland, but one block south of East Grand Blvd. You entered the building by the alley - but it was pretty well marked. Parking was free this day, and I left okay about leaving my 2 week old car next to the other cars in the lot. Immediately on entering, there is a bar on the left and several patrons hanging out. There was about 25ish vendors there, selling everything from bonsai plants and crystal jewelry to spider skins and taxidermied bats. What a great time talking with all the vendors and artists. I bought some tie dyed fabric and a hedgehog.

Yelp
A hotbed of Detroit Burner culture events. An edgy expression of post-industrial alt.culture. At times it's a little dark, with depressed people wearing black and pondering death. I've seen epic burlesque-like nonsense here many times. Nice strong drinks. Room for improvement: bathroom is setting the bar low, barely adequate.

Yelp
A special haven for local artists, and a great resource for the art community! I love coming here to see some of my favorite performers, and the bartenders are a hoot! You'd never know this was an art gallery and theater if just driving by, but it's worth looking for!

Yelp
I would like to thank Tangent Gallery and Ballroom for helping us out with the benefit for Denise Grassa last night. You are awesome. Special thanks to Jessica Baile for being such a good drink slinger. :-) Thanks again.

Yelp
This place is the shizzy. I've gone to just about ever Interdimensional Transmission show (www.star67.com) that they have put on here and they are always top notch. The music - great. The decorations - amazing. The crowd - grown up and respectful and fun. In other words no 14 yr. old E-tarded people running around it's people that are there for the MUSIC. It's a safe and exciting vibe. I've gone to many shows in the Detroit area from Berts Warehouse parties to Movement to "Detroit Luv" shows to Fox Theatre etc. and this place beats them all by far. It has great service at the bar, the music and sound system blows me away, security is all over the place and out to keep the peace, the outside area is great to take a break and make some friends, it feels clean. Some probably complain about how dark it can be but it's a show, so either like it or leave imo. I don't find it to be so dark that it's dangerous. Furthermore they have clearly marked exits, they have fixed a lot of the building as time goes on, the location is straight up Detroit style while still being safe. After the show is done there is security and a secured parking lot you can pay $5 to make sure nothing happens to your car. I have parked in the street many a times but nothing has ever happened. It's got great security, environment, music, crowd and vibe. It's meant as a place to dance ur butt off to some of the best music in Detroit if not the world. I've only gone to one show that wasn't an I.T. show though, so maybe they venue other shows that I would rate differently so I don't really have an opinion on those. I've gone to over 8 (at least) I.T. shows since they started hosting there. Give it a try! You won't be disappointed... :)

Yelp
This is a odd place... surround by industrial buildings and the sound of a train wheels screeching...I recommend parking in the lot across from the building. There was a little scrawny security guard there and it was 5 bucks to park. We walked in the side door and was greeted by 2 beard wearing security guards showed our ID and boom we are in... now there's the bar and some high tops. Then off to the left is the theater and straight through is the huge wear house we went for the titties4pitties event and the burlesque show. seating sucked! Had to stand... and the best show had to be the stripper who scaled a 20 ft. Pole. They had burlesque dancers in all shapes and sizes. I thought that was pretty cool. They all were beautiful in their own way. They had vendors there from photographers, beard mafia cartels..., cute embroidered pillows and a pretties for pitty's booth as well as 50/50... Also had a basket raffle where the proceeds went to the benefit and we won two of the prizes the vendors donated so that was pretty neat. As the night went on I could tell the bartenders working got drunker and more less attentive to the people who were actually purchasing drinks. I left little bit early but overall I give the venue and the place four stars that was well organized despite the little annoying mishaps. but just be careful this is a bad area don't walk alone and make sure you park in a well lit area.

Yelp
Attended a small concert here last weekend not knowing what to expect considering i'm not from the area. When me & my friends walked up we stepped through the door to get checked in. It was very discomforting when all I did was flash id and then proceeded to walk into the venue, no bag search, no metal detector, no bouncer etc. The place based on looks was alright but as the night when on things started to get weird. My friends freshly 21 got a couple drinks from the bar and before they knew it had to use the restroom. My one friend stepped out to lean against the wall. A man quickly approached her & proceeded to ask her who she came with. As woman we have to protect each other so I was very quick to soberly answer those questions for her. I grabbed my two friends & began to walk away fast. Instead of leaving us alone he chased us through the venue. It's very sad to say no one did anything to help we made it very clear to everyone that he made us uncomfortable. There was no security in sight the entire night. The room where the concert is held was very dark we tried our best to continue our night in peace but every time I turned my head the man was lingering in the distance. If it wasn't for couple of guys we came with I believe that something bad would have happened. This is a very uncontrolled environment id advise everyone, especially woman to attend at their own risk. If I could give this place a 0/5 stars I would. Will never return.

Yelp
Always something interesting going on. Not overly publicized, but always a good crowd, & always a good time. Not your average gallery. Eclectic choice of shows. Great staff! Great bar!

Yelp
With the adjacent Hastings St Ballroom in the same building, this is a decent underutilized space for shows. I went to Tromadance, the only free film festival in the country, here last month. Lots of Troma stuff there, for fans of low budget exploitation films. I've been to other film and art events here before, too. I saw the notoriously bad Santa Claus Conquers the Martians here once. They've got a show with Stanley Kubrick themed art coming up in September. Sometimes they have rock, electronic and hip hop shows here, too. They never seem to do much in the way of promoting them. I never see it in the Metro Times; I ask the security guard outside what's going on when I ride my bike by. Hell, they didn't even have any Yelp reviews till I pounded one out with my grubby little paws. They have a nice wood burning stove outside that makes for a nice little bonfire for smokers or for people who like bonfires.

Yelp
A lovely little venue. Not a lot of advertisement makes of grrat! We have came here for a few years now...one of our personal favorites is Torch With A Twist. Everyone is super friendly and laid back! If you can find it....check it out!

Yelp
We rented this space to premiere a movie my husband made. The owner was fabulous, and easy to work with. The bar was open, the sound guy was amazing and the projector was awesome. Overall a wonderful experience.

Yelp
The Tangent Gallery / Hastings Ballroom hosts a variety of events throughout the year. I've been to art gallery openings, techno dance parties, movie screenings and director talks, rummage sales and concerts with a variety of bands. They do a good job with the space and the events they host. Sometimes there's a cover charge, but I don't think I've ever paid more then $5 to get into an event. They have a bar and drinks are maybe a bit on the high side - but they have no other way to get revenue to keep their cool building up and running. There's a fire pit sculpture out back that always has a roaring fire in the winter, it's a great place to hang out and chat with others that are there for events. You can park on the street if you want - I usually do - but if you aren't comfortable with that there's a parking lot across the street that has a $5 fee. If you get a chance - check out their FB page to keep up to date on all their eclectic events.

Yelp
Tangent is the best gallery I have ever had the pleasure of showing work at. I always enjoy the myriad of works at the shows and they really are quite friendly and easy to communicate with. I highly recommend this gallery if you're in the mood for a non-pretentious, down-to-earth kind of gallery/show. \m/

Yelp
To the three bartenders at Tangent Gallery last night: Never have I experienced such terrible customer service. This is coming from someone with many years of employment in the customer service field. I so wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt. It was a busy evening and I understand that managers/owners want to get by with as little staff as possible. And I certainly was not going to be "that customer" by waving money or snapping my fingers in an attempt to get served. All three times I came to the bar for a drink, it was at least a fifteen minute wait and the line was not even two people deep. The last time I didn't even get to order because after I had been waiting about fifteen minutes and a fellow patron pointed out I was next, one of you completely stopped any kind of work for several minutes to chat with your friends, right next to me. That was enough. While the art was intriguing, the DJ's were magnificent, and the people were splendidly attired, they could not make up for your lack of service. Before I left, my handsome, wonderful fiancé politely asked if we had done something to cause you to treat us like that. Another of you responded with nothing but disrespect and vitriol, telling us to, "Go home!" After leaving the building, we saw the third one of you. Again, my fiancé inquired what we had done to warrant such service. Your response was, "This is my first break in five hours". Not one of you attempted any kind of explanation or apology or thanked us for waiting. I have been to events at Tangent Gallery before and did not have the awful level of service that I had last night. Good luck, Tangent Gallery, if these three bartenders continue working for you. You've lost my business.

Yelp
I love the commitment everyone associated with Tangent Gallery has had over the years. Watching it evolve is so inspiring

Yelp
Great place to have an expo in one room and a party in another, nice size bar, easy access to get larger items into the showroom, nice staging area.
