This is a lovely bistro with a European vibe. We were greeted and seated promptly, and our server was at our table in a few minutes. The drinks selection is excellent, with interesting and unique selections. The menu is fabulous, French-based, and something for everyone. My husband had the Ravioles du Dauphiné, with shaved black truffles, and it was superb. I had the Rainbow Trout, perfectly cooked. We shared the haricots verts, delicious with butter and almonds. We split a chocolate lava cake for dessert, which was served with vanilla ice cream and basil. Service throughout the meal was exceptional. A perfect dinner!

Google
Great spot in Truckee with an excellent happy hour from 5-6 PM! We shared the deviled eggs with caviar (the standout dish), a delicious hamburger, crispy fries, and the shrimp & sausage and ham board—both fantastic. The shrimp cocktail was the only thing I’d probably skip next time. The staff was friendly, and the ambiance was on point. Looking forward to returning to try the full menu!

Very high quality food and service at this upscale restaurant. Baked goods and pasta are made in house, and are spectacular quality. Food menu is inventive yet easily accessible. The drink list is excellent and the staff is knowledgeable for recommendations. You can easily get carried away in cost, but you will enjoy every minute of it.

While looking for places to celebrate our wedding anniversary during our visit to North Lake Tahoe, Tangerine popped up as one of the best restaurants in the area. So we decided to make the beautiful 20ish minute drive over to Truckee and I’m so glad we did! We loved the food, service and vibe. A great place to visit if looking for an elevated restaurant experience in the Tahoe area. If you get to town early you can enjoy a drink at the Tavern overlooking DT Truckee.

Google
This is a really really good restaurant but it's not cheap either. The happy hour burger said it had tomato jam but it actually had a huge slice of a heirloom tomato on it. The happy hour seems like a good idea for beer and wine. This restaurant is owned by the same outfit that owns great gold in Truckee and I think I personally like great gold better!!!

Google
A true gem in the Sierra’s. The wait staff is truly amazing. Very spacious and room to breathe while dining. The food was exceptional, very fresh and French like. The kitchen has Gould take a bow. I wasn’t sure about what wine would go well with the meal and they brought out a flight pairing to assist with my bottle choice!

Google
The tasting menu was great, including the wine pairing. Sadly I had nowhere to place my purse in the far bathroom. Pretty gross, right? So so bizarre for such a nice restaurant. How hard is it to put a hook on the wall?

Google
The daily menu is incredible! Best food in a long time for us! A la carte is very good as well, but the daily special was fantastic. They sell it as four course, but it was like seven dishes! The price is worth the quality! Very nice and attentive staff. And health charge seems to be the new normal in Truckee. Paid this on a pizza takeout last week. Anyway, Tangerine offers great food, modern chic ambiance and attentive service.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant! It quickly became one of our top favorites! My partner and I came to Truckee/Tahoe for a relaxing anniversary getaway and had a dinner reservation here. We were seated right away, and the hosts and servers were incredibly kind, accommodating, and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was absolutely amazing! every bite was full of flavor and cooked to perfection. The ambiance was beautiful, elegant, and cozy all at once. We can't wait to come back in the winter and dine at Tangerine Bistro again!

Yelp
We enjoyed happy hour at the bar until our dinner reservations on a Tuesday evening. Delicious dinner and appetizers. The service was excellent and well-timed. The waitress helped us choose drinks and was very thoughtful. Deviled eggs with caviar: 10/10! Best deviled eggs we have ever had. Very creamy and flavorful and the caviar was so special. Pate: 9/10. we had this at the happy hour for $10 which was a great deal. It was very good, but I would not have ordered it on the regular menu. Escargot: 2/10 This was the biggest disappointment of the meal. There was not a strong flavor of either garlic or parsley and was overall underwhelming so we would not order this again. French fries: 5/10. these would benefit from an aoli or some sort of sauce and would also be more "bistro" if they were shoe-string fries instead of thick American fries. Steak tartare: 10/10 this was delicious and I would not change anything:) Salad lyonnaise: 8/10 this was a very hardy portion which was appreciated, however it would be improved without the blue cheese and with larger chunks of the bacon. Trout: 8/10. Cooked perfectly! However, it needed a sauce of some sort, or more of whatever sauce they included.

Yelp
My daughter wrote the review based on her experience. The grown ups loved it as well. "Amazing food, my daughter ordered the chicken breast with fries that was on the kids menu. We ordered mussels that came with a lovely seafood sauce. My daughter put the sauce on her chicken, making the perfect combo. Server was nice, she also gave us mini madeleines once we finished the main course. We sat in the outside patio which was not cold. "

Yelp
Spent a girls' weekend in Truckee and inaugurated our trip with this delicious upscale addition to downtown. Indulged in the seafood-forward tasting menu on offer, which the kitchen portions out for the number of diners, but everyone at the table has to order it. Every item, from the oysters to the caviar Gruyere puffs to the pork belly in cherry sauce to the smoked trout salad to the pesto gnocchi to the scallops and corn succotash to the charcuterie plate to the seared trout fillet to the hen in orange sauce (and a few other dishes I've missed) to the desert trio (which included one of the best crème brûlées I have ever eaten) impressed our table of picky palates. We added escargot because I ordered it anywhere I see it. Sadly missed the girls' other dinner at Great Gold, the Italian sister restaurant, but very delighted I experienced Tangerine Bistro and now understand why it's widely considered the best restaurant in Truckee.

Yelp
Went to Tangerine the other night for dinner with friends. Service was exceptional however I was a bit disappointed on the food. We had the prefix dinner which way overpriced for the portions and quite frankly did not pair well together for a $500 dinner for 4. This is Truckee not Rodeo Drive. To add this this was a $26 charge for "healthcare" that the proprietor expects customers to pay for their healthcare cost instead of the owner paying for it. Absurd

Yelp
I'm an SF Bay Area tourist in town for the weekend. Tangerine was recommended to my husband and me, and now I'm recommending it to you. We went on a Thursday evening which is the same evening as Truckee's downtown market. Tangerine sent us a text message reminding us that the main downtown street would be closed, so there would be limited parking. They suggested alternatives. I love when people think ahead and communicate with their guests/clients/patrons. We were able to get this message because we had reservations; I suggest you make reservations, and if you come on a Thursday evening prepare to park behind the restaurant and walk down. The interior is a large industrial space, but they have turned it into a warm and inviting restaurant. The low candlelight was a nice touch. I checked the menu before going, and I was set on getting French onion soup, but I was torn about my entree. Once our server detailed the tasting menu we were sold. However, we wanted the deviled eggs with caviar and French onion soup. She offered to sub the oysters for the deviled eggs, but we wanted to try the tasting menu in its entirety. I asked if it would be too much food, and she assured us that the tasting menu was light and we should be okay. I don't know all of the ingredients and proper names, but here's what the tasting menu was on Thursday, July 10: 1. New Brunswick oysters--delightful. I am not even an oyster gal, and these were great. They were accompanied by a vinegar or red wine type sauce that really kicked the flavor into gear. 2. Goat cheese tarts--puff pastry, caramelized onions, goat cheese...what's not to love? I could've tossed back six of these if given the chance. Thank God I wasn't! 3. Trout salad--fresh trout, cucumbers, heirloom tomatoes, dill, and a yogurt dill sauce. Summery, light, and tasty. The trout was excellent. I haven't had trout in forever, so this was a nice change of pace for me. 4. Crispy pork belly with pickled cherries--yum, yum, yummy. Cooked to perfection, seasoned well. The pickled cherries were such a nice touch. I need more pickled cherries in my life! 5. Gnocchi topped with squash blossoms--I believe it was a pea puree. Ugh. So good! The gnocchi was soft and melted in my mouth. 6. Scallops with corn succotash--the scallops were perfectly cooked and the corn was sweet. 7. Green beans with slivered almonds--this was probably my least favorite dish, but that's because everything else was amazing. It was just green beans with almonds on top. Overall, this was such a lovely experience for me. What I noticed was how in sync the employees were. They were all kind to one another and helped each other out. Whatever needed to be done was done. I've been in some restaurants where the staff didn't talk to one another, seemed stressed, or just didn't appear to like working with each other. Tangerine staff are all kind, welcoming, and they work together to ensure that patrons are serviced well from entry to exit. I cannot recommend this place enough. I look forward to visiting again.

Yelp
Great food, 10/10 vibe, and amazing service! Happy hour deals daily from 5-6pm for tables at the bar. Loved the mussels and the rainbow trout. Perfect date night spot if you're in the area.

Yelp
The 3 of us got lucky and were able to walk in on a Saturday night at 7:30. The restaurant was comfortable but dimly lit. The overall service was great and our server was personable and attentive. The food was very good! We had and would recommend the baguette, deviled eggs, chicken liver pate, escargot, French onion soup, muscles, truffle ravioli and lava cake. The baguette was surprisingly good. We expected it to just be your normal table bread with butter but it was definitely a couple steps above. It had a saltiness to it that was on the verge of being too salty but was just right. We tried to order a second loaf but they sold out. We'll definitely go back to this restaurant next time we're in Truckee.

Yelp
this place genuinely deserves all the hype, been to truckee so many times, wish i knew of this place sooner! perfect for special occasions EVERYTHING is amazing, food, service, vibes, all soooo unbelievably good, ranked 10/10 on my beli too!

Yelp
Best meal in Truckee. For appetizers, we ordered the French onion soup and beef tartare, which were excellent, as well as the rabbit pappardelle, which was very good. We also got the escargot, which wasn't our favorite. For entrees, the trout was my favorite, but the Tomahawk and cassoulet were also good, just very heavy. Our favorite desserts were the lava cake and Parisian sundae. The crème brûlée was just okay. The restaurant had a great lively atmosphere, and the service was excellent!

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic new French bistro in Truckee. Effortlessly service and classic dishes served perfectly, from steak to oysters to escargot A charming room

Yelp
Stayed a week in Truckee. Ate in a 1/2 dozen restaurants. This by far was the most delicious meal. Country pate' rivals any made in France. Pan fried trout was sublime. Cassoulet was rich beyond belief, enough calories to hold one over for a subsequent 3 days of not eating. Home made bread was fluffy, fresh, warm. The salted French butter was so good it was sinful. Vanilla Crème Brûlée was the best I've had anywhere in the USA. Would give the best tasting one in Paris a run for its money. I live 75 miles down the road towards Sacramento. I seriously will consider driving up here again just to have dinner at Tangerine.

Yelp
French cuisine at Tahoe? We had escargot, frog legs, etc... Yes, why not. The food was great, service was mostly good, but could have been friendlier and more attentive for the 20% auto tip. I'd go back

Yelp
Came here for a dinner date. This is a bougie place but it was a fun experience. They only serve French wine (it's a French restaurant). The bartenders were very knowledgeable and suggested wine options for the food we ordered. We split the bison burger. Cooked perfectly. However, it took almost 30-45 minutes for us to receive it. Our favorite? The escargot. I'm typically used to having escargot in a traditional white wine, garlic butter situation. But here, they cook it in red wine. Each little morsel has like a small biscuit of its own on top. It was so unique. I've never had anything like this before. It was delicious !

Yelp
Such a great find thanks to someone telling me about it! The concept for this is here to stay. French, airy, with great service and amazing food and wine. We always choose to sit at there bar, and these are the goods that we tried: Deviled egg - a must!! Burger - I am not a burger person but wow, this nearly tops it for me. House wines - delicious European options is my new style. Pate - a great snack Homemade mini baguette and quality butter? Yes always Mussels - popular and great. Add the baguette. This is a clean, friendly, yummy spot.

Yelp
Had an amazing birthday dinner at Tangerine Bistro over the holiday weekend. We had a large party of 9 and they accommodated us without any issue. Pro Tip: If you are looking for white tablecloth and AC, Tangerine Bistro should be at the top of your list. Service was impeccable and it seems like all the staff worked together to ensure a fast and friendly experience. For food, be sure to get their Chicken Pate which was smooth and creamy. We also liked their Cornish hen and Duck confit Cossoulet. The only thing we probably won't order again is the beef tartare. Nothing was wrong with it, just that we didn't like how it incorporated so much caper which kinda overpowered the beef. Their oysters were fresh and escargots tender. Overall, had an excellent time and won't mind going back to try out some of their other dishes. Wine and beer only, no hard liquor.

Yelp
Tried Tangerine for the first time with two other food-enthusiast friends last night, we were all extremely happy. Vibe is casual with a dash of elegance. Service was capable, casual, friendly, but also with a dash of Parisian no-nonsense thrown in.  Food was consistently excellent; we were all extremely happy with every single item, a level of consistency which, in my experience, is unusual even at excellent restaurants. Collectively, we had oysters, steak tartare, chicken liver mousse, onion soup, Lyonnaise salad, cassoulet, afogato, and "French sundae," a house creation of blood orange sorbet and champagne, plus house-made amaretti brought with the check. Wine on offer by the glass was well-curated.  No meal can be perfect, but the caveats here were minor: one of my oysters had a number of shell fragments (and that aside, the oysters were excellently shucked, including preserving most of the liquor that all-too-often ends up on the floor), and the excellent beef in the steak tartare had its flavor masked by a too-heavy hand with the mustard, to my palate, anyway. This isn't a cheap restaurant, but it seems appropriately priced for what it is.

Yelp
So nice to have a French restaurant with delicious food in Truckee. The prices are expensive but I did find a $24 price tag on the salad lyonnaise ridiculous. Service was efficient and courteous if not actually warm and friendly. I guess that's in keeping with a Parisian mindset? Nice ambiance inside. Comfy seating. Excellent wine by the glass menu. Three choices for oysters, all were delicious and perfectly shucked with mignonette, lemon and Tabasco options. French onion soup was delicious. Frittes were excellent but honestly should be crispier to be perfectly French. Chicken liver mousse with the blackberry jam was a small but delicious appetizer. The freshly made bread was delicious with fleur de sel and amazing butter, if overpriced at $9 for a small baguette. Mussels in a coconut broth were all perfect, always going to be very salty but very good. The bread served with it, however, was overly toasted and tasted burnt. The lyonnaise salad was a big portion but the dressing was heavy and made it soggy. Bacon wasn't discernible and the Roquefort pieces were too big and overwhelmed the frisée. Overpriced at $24. This was a miss. Nicely cooked tender haricot vert. The crème brûlée had a perfect brûlée! Crème was smooth. I prefer mine less sweet but I know most are this sweet. This was a very good dessert. I do not appreciate the 6% service fee tacked on at the end for health care. That's on the restaurant and should be incorporated into your food prices. I know why they do this but if you are already charging $24 for a salad, why not be honest and make it $25.50? That won't stop someone who wants to order it instead of nailing the diner at the end. So all in all this is a great place in the area to go for a very classic French meal with excellent wine selection too.

Yelp
Tangerine is a classic French bistro, brought to life by the creators of Italian spot Great Gold. Opening in November of 2023, Tangerine brings a fresh, modern take on the classic French bistro. The owners first met at Flour + Water and have opened a bunch of spots since. This was described as one of the most sought after dinner reservations in the area by sfgate. We went in late March and got a reservation easily on resy. Everything is made in-house. Tangerine's Menu is classic French all the way. Food quality was about what we expected. Solid but some clinkers. Expecting top notch French in a resort town is a conflict, but this should satisfy folks wanting something decent. Service was solid. Knowledgable servers, lots of attention, no need to hail them. Food Review: house made demi baguette (v) ($10) whipped butter, fleur de sel was nice and warm. Solid. 8.5/10 french onion soup ($21) beef broth, sherry, gruyere, crouton - They also use anchovy. - special vegetarian version was just too sour. Cheese and crouton was ok. 6/10 steak frites au poivre (gf) 8oz sirloin steak ($60) was bigger than expected. Cooked to a nice medium rare with a classic sauce. Fries were a bit over salted. 8.5/10 sautéed mushrooms (gf)(v) ($15) - These sides were great for vegetarians/vegans. They can cook them with olive oil instead of butter. 9/10 sautéed spinach (gf)(v) haricot verts (gf)(v) bibb lettuces (gf)(v) Overall - Very Good Food - Very Good Decor - Very Good Service - Fair Value - Very Good Would we come back - Yes

Yelp
Beautiful space! I love the bar and everyone is so friendly. The pate is yummy and fresh pastas are a must! Go with friends so you can order everything and share :)

Yelp
Food was really mid but small portions and big prices being the stars down to 2. (Why is the over salted onion soup over $20?) even the "organic lemonade" was super watered down and bland. It tasted like a lemon bundaberg. We tried oysters, duck, soup, burger, and duck confit. Everything was very mid. Great gold is at least good (but not great). Honestly this resto reminded us why we don't come to this part of truckee for food. Everything is mid and overpriced. Try Tahoe city or incline village instead.

Yelp
What can I say? My meal here was a week ago and I am still dreaming about how great it was! What a great addition to the food scene in Truckee! Everything we ate here was delicious and perfect. The county pate is better than I have had in France. Full of pistachios and dried cherries. Crostini for this dish was thin, full of flavor and crunchy - just right for the pate bites. I had the trout and hubby had the cassoulet. We also ordered the made in house baguette with the salted French butter. Heavenly! The trout was cooked perfectly with a nice crispy skin. The cassoulet was a loaded with sausage, duck confit leg, beans and a delicious sauce. Oh and you must try the crème brûlée here as well. The ambience of the room is lovely and the service was warm, friendly and very attentive. I cannot wait to go back!

Yelp
I heard about tangerine bistro from a local. I do not eat French food a lot/enough. But I thought I'd give it a shot. They have a happy hour which is what I did. I just treated it like dinner and you can see by the picture that that's a full meal. It was about $35 plus tax and tip . The food was spectacular. The muscles you pull out of clams, that's easy, but they pulled out about half a dozen and let it sit in the broth. An elegant touch. Everything was spot on. The service, Tabatha was my server, was also perfect. I asked a lot of questions about different dishes and we built what Great French food in Truckee, you bet. One of the best meals and best dining experiences I have had in quite a while.

Jackie M.

Yelp
Great food and amazing service! We had the tasting menu and chose to have it "blind" not knowing what we were receiving (no food allergies). Added wine paring and wow!! Highly recommended!! A little gem!

Yelp
Enjoyed all aspects of our dining experience. We did the 4 course prix fixe menu with wine pairing. All were delicious. Our server was knowledgeable, personable and fun.

Yelp
I was excited to try this place as it's relatively new in Truckee. We had a reservation for a weeknight around 6pm. The restaurant was only half full when we arrived but got more crowded as the night went on. The lighting and ambience were beautiful - I had no idea that the space was as large as it was. The music was a bit distracting - louder than I would have liked and more rock n roll - a softer jazz or orchestral soundtrack would have been a better fit. We were seated in a row of tables that were set up for couples - one person on a long bench and the other facing them in a chair. I would imagine it would be difficult not to eavesdrop on your neighbors conversation if the restaurant was full but luckily we were early enough so that wasn't a concern. We started with the puff pastry Brie appetizer. It was tasty - had some tangerine jam and zest inside. The cheese wasn't totally melted but it was still a tasty bite. I would have liked to see some fruit or additional garnish on the side. Next we ordered the cassoulet and burger. The server specifically told us the burger was new on the menu and came with raclette cheese (though the menu didn't specifically state this). I was excited to try it as I've seen a lot of raclette videos and hoped the cheese would be served table side. No such luck. The burger was well done (no pink as stated) and the cheese was plated in the kitchen with no fanfare. Maybe I had too high expectations? The tomato jam on the burger was good and the fries were crispy. I would have loved to see an aioli or other sauce served with the fries. The cassoulet was beautiful and plated gorgeously. It had deep flavor and was very warm and comforting. Our server was very attentive and refilled waters and checked on us often. We skipped dessert and got served complimentary cookies with our check. Our server explained that the cookies were gluten and dairy free. They were a miss in my opinion....simple mints would have been a nicer finish to the meal. Lastly we were surprised to see a health charge of 6% added to our bill. I assumed this was to help cover the health plan for employee. I would have preferred higher prices on food items instead of a separate charge. I would return if I had friends in town that loved French cuisine and wanted some small bites with a glass of wine. It's nice to see some diversity in cuisine in downtown Truckee!

We were one of the first guests to test out their new prie fixe menu. We thoroughly enjoyed the food! They had a great selection and really listened to our dietary restrictions and choices!

Yelp
Despite being happy hour, I felt overcharged, especially with the surprise addition of a health insurance tax that wasn't disclosed before ordering, and which is not customary in our area. The food quality was underwhelming--uninspired and lackluster. Which unfortunately I took no memories home, from this experience, It left me feeling regretful like I was a lowly ordering off the happy hour menu. The oysters, touted on the website as $3 for happy hour, were misleadingly and limited to East Coast varieties, which was not disclosed on their website, and the ones served were so tiny they were barely visible, and grainy. The ambiance resembled a warehouse, with black curtains creating a cold, uninviting atmosphere. To make matters worse, I was charged the same price for a few small pieces of lettuce for my burger as for a full salad we ordered. French fries were brought out, which I didn't recall ordering, and I assumed they came with the burger. Instead, they were added to the bill without notice. Even the seating was uncomfortable, with poorly designed barstools that cut off circulation to our legs. The entire experience was a major letdown, and I cannot recommend this restaurant. First impressions last a long time, and I feel no need to become a repeat customer. On a positive note, the server was the one bright spot, offering excellent service and a welcoming personality.

Yelp
We called to make reservations. They said they don't take them. Erroneous! However we were there on a Wednesday night and they seated us all at the bar. AMAZING SERVICE! And the best pasta I have had in YEARS! It's the rabbit pasta. They need a liquor license.

Yelp
Tangerine is turning into a great restaurant. Chef has developed a repertoire of flavorful dishes. Everything is so fresh. He has a very good wine list as well. I highly recommend Tangerine and its dunking atmosphere and amazing cuisine. Portions are generous, so share and try lots of dishes.

Yelp
We've gotten takeout and eaten at their sister restaurant (Great Gold) quite a few times, and we were in the mood for French bistro food. Reservations are on Resy, and I booked a few weeks out without a problem. By 7pm on a random Tuesday, the restaurant was full! Alcohol: beer and wine only. They have a good number of wines by the bottle and by the glass at reasonable bottle prices. Food: French bistro classics - Caviar: I don't usually order caviar at restaurants, but 1 oz of Tsar Nicoulai with accompaniments was $50, which is actually a really good price - Tartare: basically what I came here for. It was a classic preparation with a good amount of mustard and cornichons, well seasoned, served with miner's lettuce and crostini - French onion soup: I'm so often disappointed by French onion soup, but this one had great intense and sweet onion flavor without being too salty, and it had a generous amount of gruyere without an excessive amount of bread - Cassoulet: perfect on a cold night! It was very substantial and filling with the beans, duck confit, and sausage. I do recommend getting a baguette to go with this - Burger: with tomato jam, cheese, pickles, and fries on the side (I got it without the thousand island dressing). The burger was cooked medium, juicy, well seasoned, and the brioche bun was light and fluffy We were too full for dessert, but everyone else seemed to be getting the creme brulee. The server was great, and pacing was good. Food was on the saltier side, but I like my food well seasoned. It's a modern feel at Tangerine, but the menu is very classic French bistro, which I love. Parking was easy on a weeknight, and it's free after 6pm.

Yelp
Amazing food. I felt like I was back in Paris. The kids loved the green beans, spinach and game hen. Baby also ate the hen and pomme puree. It was cooked to perfection and one of the best chickens we've ever had. The pâté was also so good. Everything was amazing. This place is a great addition to the restaurant selection in Truckee. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
We live up the street ( part time) and I have to tell you how absolutely amazing this restaurant is. Truckee so needed this place. We stoped by in the winter to have a drink, but today we dined. Lulu , the manager is so kind and thoughtful. The food is impeccable. Service , perfect. Why no Michelin star ? They're deserving of one. The atmosphere is divine. Happy to call this place our new neighborhood place. Brooke is awesome. Ask for her if you're sitting at the bar.

Yelp
The food is decent. I liked the preparation of the mussels, but the bread that accompanied them was toasted too long and was hard. The sauce was delicious and it would have been nice to have a big chunk of baguette that was toasted lightly and soft, to soak that sauce up. The trout was overcooked. They were tying to crisp up the skin but this fish was on the grill or under the broiler just too long. My wife had the game hen, which was nice. The mash potatoes were on the runnier side but quite tasty. We had an affogato and the chocolate cake. Both were good but nothing special. Tab came out to over $230. The subtotal includes a 6% health care charge before the tax, which is kind of weird.

Yelp
Great food and service. We have had several meals and they have all been great. The vegetarian onion soup is sooo good. Solid wine by the glass list. Have been for happy hour and for dinner - either way, an enjoyable experience. Can be a little loud inside when crowded. I give it a 4.5 but can't don halves on Yelp.

Yelp
Went here tonight for the first time and it was great! The best meal iv had in Tahoe and we have come here a bunch! Get the: - Chicken liver moose with blackberry jam - French onion soup - Cassoulet We wish we had room for dessert but left so full! They left us tiny cookies with the check and took them to go-- they were incredible too! Go here! Skip the touristy places.

Yelp
Service was OK; food a little uneven. The French onion soup was fantastic. The salad lyonnaise was big enough to split; which it should be for $24. I had the cassoulet. The Tangerine version has sausage and duck. The duck was crispy on the outside, which was good, but the meat was overcooked and dry. My dinner companion had the rainbow trout, which she pronounced as a bit fishy; she wasn't a fan. Beer and wine is available, but no hard alcohol or cocktails. A fairly pedestrian French wine which sells for $18 retail was $65 on the wine list. That would be OK, except after tax, tip and surcharge (see below), that $18 wine costs the diner close to $90. One might be better off bringing a favorite bottle from home and paying the $35 corkage fee. Atmosphere was OK, with a moderate noise level., I sat in a fairly uncomfortable armless chair. This restaurant seems to be a sister restaurant to Great Gold and shares a somewhat uneven experience. Unfortunately, it also shares the completely inexcusable practice of adding a separate 6% surcharge (didn't California make that illegal?), which is separate from tip and tax. It should be rolled into the menu prices, but I'm guessing those were already eye popping enough.

Yelp
Dare I say the best restaurant in Truckee right now? Possibly! We sat at the bar for happy hour. Ordered the mussels, cheese plate, baguette, pate, lettuce salad, crème brûlée, , deviled eggs, and house wines. Everything was on point. The cheese plate came with caraway seed crackers (I think), honey, and apples. An excellent combination! We also noticed some of the smaller details such as the sound proofing which kept the ambience engaged but not too loud. Great job, these folks know what they're doing!

Yelp
We went for happy hour. Just can't get over the high prices even for happy hour. I suppose if you are not a local you won't mind over spending for even fries or deviled eggs. Service fine. Lovely decor.

Yelp
Everything about this place is fantastic. The service is wonderful--polished, yet casual. Food is incredible--on par with any top Bay Area restaurant. Do yourself a favor and do the chef's tasting menu. $89 per person and the amount of food was almost overwhelming. What a gem.

Yelp
We were in town for a quick business meeting. Went to the bistro and had a real meal from attentive staff. This is quality French dinning with fresh farm to table flair. The Cassoulet was perfect and always appreciated given the time to prepare. We will be back.

Yelp
Loved, loved, loved the food at Tangerine and my VERY picky French husband agreed! First impressions first: Loved the entry with the tangerine wallpaper and privacy curtain. The restaurant seemed a bit cavernous and could use some warm touches, but not sure how they could achieve that. We arrived a half hour earlier than our reservation because we had skipped lunch, but they accommodated us very nicely even though restaurant was already full at 6:30 on a Thursday. The two servers who attended us throughout the evening were superb...friendly, helpful and patient. One was able to speak to my husband in French, which he loved. Our hunger led us to over-order, but we are glad we did. The dishes were brought out a bit haphazardly, we wanted to start with the brie en croute, but it came out after the beef tartare and salade lyonnaise. The beef tartare was fabulous, perfectly balanced without the mustard or horseradish being overwhelming like you find at so many places. The greens were a nice addition and the super crispy bread toast points were perfect! The pain was a bit of a miss for us, we've never had such a salty 'bagette'. We love salt but it was a bit overpowering. I LOVED the salade lyonnaise. It wasn't quite authentic enough for my husband and he didn't like how much blue cheese was on it, but I thought it was so so tasty. Next out were our entrees; I loved that the chef delivered them...a very nice touch! We ordered the mushrooms based on other reviews, and we were not disappointed. So tasty and they ending up being my husband's entree because somehow they missed his order of Cornish game hen. Which was perfect since we had over-ordered! My cassoulet was divine. Complex flavors and the duck confit was crispy. A tad overcooked, but just a tad. Since my husband didn't have an entree, he thought he deserved some dessert(!) so we ordered the creme brûlée and affagato (sic?) The creme brûlée was perfect; excellent flavor and creaminess and the top caramelized to perfection, golden without any over cooking. The affagato was typical, it's hard to mess up that dessert. My husband had never had it before, and he enjoyed it. We had brought a special bottle of our own wine so I can't speak to their wine list. The corkage fee was $35, but even with that our meal came to just over $200 before the 6% health charge and tip. Money WELL spent!! We will definitely return and will recommend to all of our friends. Good job, Tangerine Bistro!!!

Yelp
While on vacation in Truckee, I tried several restaurants. This restaurant was the best by far. You get what you pay for so the price tag is what you would find in any Urban center in the USA. It was like finding an oasis in the desert. The food was fantastic. The service was superb and our server was very experienced, knowledgeable and recommended terrific wines. The ambience was quaint and secluded as the bistro is a little bit on the outskirts of downtown Truckee.

Yelp
A fabulous upscale restaurant. Amazing food! Pricey but worth every penny! Appetizers, mains and dessert all well prepared and unique and delicious! Great service too. Cozy place. A great place for adults to celebrate a very special occasion.

Yelp
Superb food and service! Great atmosphere but it was a bit noisy as we were near the bar during happy hour....

Yelp
Everything about the restaurant was excellent. The tasting menu was delicious. The service was stellar and the restaurant vibe was charming. We can't wait to return.
