During my Portland work visit, I was recommended this restaurant by a colleague who greatly enjoyed their lamb shank. It was a new restaurant for me to check out, and fortunately not far from my hotel at all!
I was excited by being in a Moroccan restaurant, as I always enjoy Moroccan teas. Without hesitation, I ordered their Moroccan tea (note - their tea order is enough for 3 people. I came alone, so it was a lot of tea to drink, but no complaints!). Tasted as wonderful as I remember it, with a refreshing mint, yet minimally sweet, profile.
Then the entree. I ordered their Tagine of Lamb, which is the lamb shank entree. It's a huge dish! Definitely come on an empty stomach. I also got an order of their Moroccan bread to accompany the dish. Lamb is usually not my favorite protein, but they may have well made it my favorite tonight! The lamb was incredibly tender and moist, literally falling off the bone. I got the side of eggplant and rice with the lamb shank, and I love how the eggplant skin was nice and crisp, while the inner portion was still tender. The Moroccan bread had the right ratio of firm yet soft, and it was perfect for soaking up the juices off the plate.
I came on a Tuesday night, and it seemed a little sad that the restaurant wasn't more occupied! The prices aren't super crazy, given the huge portions you get. It's absolutely a hidden gem in Downtown Portland and is worth the visit!
