As a first time goer to the Queens night market and a first generation Haitian American. Tania’s booth was the first booth I tried and I was eager to experience a taste of home. However, I was left with disappointment. The chicken labeled chicken stew in fact had no stew at all 🙃 the chicken was dry and unfortunately flavorless. The Mac and cheese was lacking cheese and flavor and didn’t have onions and peppers like the authentic dish is known for. The black rice was more like a light skin black rice. It didn’t have enough mushrooms to give it the color that it’s supposed to have and it didn’t have peas, flavor or salt. The watermelon juice also tasted good when u first take a sip but then has a spoiled sour taste afterwards. I don’t want to come and be negative but this is my honest experience. I would like to suggest some changes to increase the booth’s foot traffic. For example, having the food on display and a more vibrant signage with pictures of the food to attract customers as well as making the food more authentic. I would suggest having a grill and a small fryer to cook the plantains and chicken as the day goes on so that it’s hot and fresh. As well as a burner to serve hot Mac and cheese and rice throughout the day. Hope you make the changes and wish you the best!!
