"Amid the refinement of a dignified tea arbour, the chef cooks with sincere devotion. His attentiveness derives from his early work at a ryotei, where he was a doorman in charge of footwear   . Tanimoto’s forte is charcoal grilling, preparing each ingredient with the strictest attention. The meal ends with a generous lineup of various rice dishes including, white rice, takikomi-gohan and chazuke, followed by tea poured by the chef himself. The spirit of graceful service brings satisfaction to the depths of the soul." - Michelin Inspector

A quietly beautiful dinner that still lingers in my mind after a week. Every dish was prepared with such care and precision — you can sense the chef’s spirit in each detail. He doesn’t talk much, yet through his food, you feel something genuine and calm. It was not just a meal, but a quiet moment of grace. Compared to other types of Japanese cuisine, I find 懷石料理 (kaiseki) to be the healthiest and most balanced — light, nourishing, and full of harmony. This place captures that spirit perfectly. It’s surprisingly easy to make a reservation here, which feels almost like a secret. A rare place where simplicity and depth quietly coexist.

Comments are 50/50 I was not impressed before yet this time, I love each and every dishes! All so delicious and the varieties are showing the true skills by master The freshness and best sides of each ingredients are well displayed. On top of this I am sooooo stuffed by different kinds of rice 🍚 😋 Sake is reasonable priced and I finished the final sip of Aramasa...then chef recommended better pairing! Highlight is the pretty sous chef making desserts in front of us, making it tastier for sure! Minor accident happened to my water, but quickly fixed.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Tanimoto – A Michelin-Starred Hidden Gem in Tokyo Some meals are just meals, and then there are those that feel like a journey—a deep dive into a chef’s artistry, philosophy, and respect for ingredients. Tanimoto is exactly that kind of place. Nestled in Tokyo, this Michelin-starred restaurant offers an intimate and elevated dining experience that feels both exclusive and deeply personal. 🍶 A Dining Experience, Not Just a Meal From the moment I stepped in, I could sense the dedication to precision and hospitality. The restaurant itself is minimalistic yet warm, allowing the food to take center stage. Chef Tanimoto works meticulously behind the counter, crafting each dish with unparalleled attention to detail. 🍽 A Menu That Speaks for Itself Tanimoto doesn’t just serve food—it presents a carefully curated seasonal tasting menu that reflects Japan’s culinary traditions while embracing subtle innovation. An excellent meal, and remarkable value for the quality and volume of food. I appreciated the careful pace and rhythm of the meal, which allows for a lot of food without feeling too full. The soup course and grilled course were especially delicious, but the overall course was well designed and executed. Perhaps the best high-end Japanese cuisine I've had in Tokyo. I will be back. P.S. the mango pictured was outrageously delicious!

Kaiseki fine dining in the heart of Tokyo. Excellent food paired with excellent service. Sake and wine selection is also good and diverse. Pricy but there's a lot of food.

Chef Tanimoto and his team were warm, welcoming, and made us the kaiseki meal of a lifetime! Hyper-regional and hyper-seasonal fish and produce. We watched much of of food being made on the charcoal grill and even got to see Chef expertly slice fresh fish and prepare other dishes right in front of us! Highly recommend for someone interested in trying local delicacies and getting a real taste of Japan on their trip.
