The 9 Best Restaurants In Edgewater

"To get to Tanka, you’ll have to step into a ‘90s time machine: The Grand Retail Plaza, a vintage mini-mall with pink mannequins in sequin dresses. Luckily, this Chinese-fusion restaurant is grounded in the 21st century with comfortable leather chairs and roomy green banquets. They serve some really good dumplings. But the reason we’d pull a Bill & Ted and come back to Tanka is for their entrees, specifically the peking duck and baby back ribs that literally fall off the bone. Order the half portion of the peking duck (which serves about two to three) and watch as the crispy skin curls when they flambé it tableside. The meat is tender, slightly sweet, and served with a generous amount of pancakes, chili oil, and housemade hoisin." - ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo, mariana trabanino

Tanka - Review - Edgewater - Miami - The Infatuation

I recently dined at this Asian cuisine restaurant located inside the Grand Doubletree hotel, and it was an excellent experience from start to finish. Although it's housed within a hotel, it's open to the public and definitely worth a visit. The restaurant offers both English and Chinese menus, which makes ordering easy and accessible for everyone. The focus is on modern Chinese cuisine with authentic Sichuan flavors, and the taste truly delivers—it felt just like eating in China. Every dish was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The service was impressively fast, and the staff were friendly and efficient. Whether you're craving something spicy or simply want a high-quality Chinese meal, this place is a fantastic choice. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a genuine taste of modern Sichuan cuisine in a comfortable and welcoming setting.

Google
Upscale Asian restaurant located conveniently next door to the Marriott Biscayne Bay in a small indoor shopping mall. If you’re staying at the Marriott, you don’t even need to go outdoors to access the mall area and get to the restaurant. Tanka it’s very upscale and attractive inside, the people that work there are very professional and welcoming and the food is delicious. Also conveniently, they’re open late, so it’s possible to get dinner if you’re arriving to one of the nearby hotels late or you want to eat after a Heat game. The restaurant is so good that we ate there two nights in a row, which say a lot because there are so many good options in the area, but with their variety of dishes, you can eat sushi one night and tie the next and feel like you’re at a completely different restaurant. Sol was our waitress the second night and she was very knowledgeable about the different dishes on the menu, but I don’t think you could go wrong with any of the fabulous people that work there.

Google
Really enjoyed my experience. Sat at the bar. The bartender was very attentive. I came on a Thursday around 7 PM. It was happy hour which meant all their signature cocktails were half off. I had a pink and black margarita. It was quite tasty. I also ordered the takoyaki and the shrimp pad Thai. The pad Thai came out before the appetizer but I didn’t mind. Both were tasty. The environment was very relaxing as well.

NOW… Where do I start… First Off…. As a Miami native, Trust me on this one: If you’re looking for AUTHENTIC-REAL-(NOT superficial) Asian Food; Tanka Restaurant is where you absolutely MUST GO TO. Second of all: Tanka’s food and ingredients is shipped DIRECTLY from Sichuan China (you will taste those authentic ingredients in your food when you eat at Tanka). The Asian food in Downtown Miami & Brickell is Super OVERRATED and SUPER-OVERPRICED. However, THIS RESTAURANT TANKA IS ABSOLUTELY NOT. The prices are very similar to any normal gourmet Asian restaurant, you won’t be disappointed as you would if you went to those tourist traps in Miami. Lastly, VERY SANITARY. Beautiful CLEAN KITCHEN & Restroom. You can see the chefs (WHOM ARE ACTUALLY ASIAN) cooking the food with this beautiful glass view overlooking the dining area. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AT HUTONG or Komodo. You will be disappointed and ripped off.

Google
5 stars for 5 reasons 1. Chicken fried rice was great! Well, balanced fried rice with the taste of umami! Love it. 2. Quantity was a lot for what you pay 3. Price is relatively good for the location and how fancy this place is. 4. The food came out really fast 5. Coolest menu and really cool ambiance for sure.

Google
Nice ambiance good food, staff was friendly she has service mind , she was super nice recommended food and beverages. I ordered Chinese dish, Mapo tofu and Spicy Suchuan Chicken and both were authentic taste as i had tried in China. Thai milk tea was so good as well. I will go this place again for sure.

Google
Great little find in The Grand! The rainbow bowl was really good. The tuna and salmon were so fresh and tasty! The chicken fried rice was really good and not overly salted, greasy, or with too much soy sauce. Service was excellent! We will certainly be back!

Order Issues + Long Wait Time + Unattended Front Desk The food tasted good and met the expected standard for an Asian Cuisine, but this experience completely ruined my day. I placed a pick-up order on Uber Eats with an estimated wait time of 30–40 minutes. When I arrived at the restaurant 40 minutes later to pick up my food, I noted that two items were missing. They had to remake them, which resulted in an additional 50-minute wait. There was no explanation or apology. By the time I finally received everything, the food was no longer fresh. Another customer next to me said they had already been waiting for about an hour. In addition, the front desk was left unattended for a long time. Many people, including myself, were standing at the entrance with no one available to assist. While the staff were very polite and actively helped me follow up with the kitchen, I believe there are serious issues with the restaurant’s management.

Yelp
Place is delicious and affordable! Everything is hot and fresh. Staff is pretty good. You know this place is going to be amazing when there are a ton of Asian people eating there! It didn't disappoint at all. The drink was delicious and something I had never had. The food was fresh, done perfectly and presentation was beautiful. My poke bowl was $19 and I couldn't finish it. I don't recall the other prices, and let me tell you, doesn't matter because you get a lot for you money. Happy hour is all day M- Th and I believe up until 6:00pm F-Sun. Drinks are half price. So the old fashioned way as $10. What a deal! If you don't want delicious food at great prices and leave full, then this is definitely the place for you.

Yelp
We were in the area after attending Luminosa, and it was getting late at night, and Tanka was open late. Our group was promptly seated, and we ordered a few appetizers to share: Crab Rangoon, Pan Fried Pork Buns, Salt & Pepper Calamari. For Entrées House, Special Fried Rice, Plantain Roll, Mongolian Beef, Orange Beef, plain Noodles for the children. All the food was excellent. Service was good. The ambiance is very nice.

Yelp
Why is this place is not packed?! It's okay, it can be my little secret gem. This place surprised me fully. Great portions, attentive staff and flavors that make me crave for more. I seriously overate and it was because I could not stop myself. chicken lettuce wraps 5 spice marinade, cashews, bean sprouts, bib lettuce, pickled cucumber, pickled chili $21 pork and shrimp siu mai sweet black vinegar sauce $16 Peking duck whole steamed bao buns, house made hoisin sauce, chili oil $50 half / $95 whole Mongolian beef 8 oz, scallion, crispy noodles $28

Yelp
Amazing Thai restaurant in the Doubletree The Grand! Great option if you want a night in. The staff were wonderful, ambiance is great, and the food was delicious!!

Yelp
The Service was Amazing! The bartender who is an Artist was Amazing. He was kind, knowledgeable of the menu and made delicious drinks. I had 4 of the purple drink and came back to my hotel room dancing and then went to sleep. My dinner companion had tried a variety of drinks. We had the bogo happy hour special. The food was delicious, we had the Tanka roll, Mongolian Chicken and Shrimp Fried Rice. Everything was good.

Yelp
Rainbow bowl and Aurora Rainbow roll were amazing!!! Roll was $22 so pretty costly but it was 10-12 pieces of medium size. The ginger was a little dry. The bowl was $19 and a good size--but may want to get a small app with it. Very fresh and tasty tuna, salmon, shrimp, crab. Ordered as takeout so can't speak to ambiance other than 8pm on a Wednesday was EMPTY. Not sure if typical in Miami but different price for card vs cash--I've seen this with gasoline but never in a restaurant. Not sure if the prices are standard for Miami but for a non-Miami person, was kinda costly for 2 items.

Yelp
Very traditional and original taste. Like it!!! Sol is very nice to us, especially as a Chinese, this restaurant is very Chinese taste. 川菜非常正宗,别让这店倒了下次找不到这么好吃的了。

Yelp
I flew in from Dallas and arrived at 10pm- the sushi was as fresh as if I was there the day it arrived. Amazing chef and relaxed attitude. Come checks it out- you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Great Chinese restaurant. Prob one of the best I've tried in Miami. Delicious Peking duck! Quite authentic.

Yelp
This is a small restaurant that can be a little difficult to find. It is in the back of a mall inside a hotel. The service was good and the food was delicious. I would definitely go back.
google avatar

Yelp
I had the best prayer short ribs. I've eaten in a long time we had the Peking duck, which was excellent. The fried rice was very flavorful. The food was truly excellent. Service is amazing. The servers knew a lot about the menu and made some great suggestions. Really great crowd. It's reasonably priced for the area. I strongly recommend this experience. Till next time bon appétit

Yelp
Food is very good Service is extremely slow. Ambience is very nice Need to hire more servers to be able to provide a better service

Kathleen ..

Yelp
Beautiful decor, attentive service and most importantly delicious food. It's not easy to find quality Chinese food in Miami but Tanka is our new favorite.

Nerissa W.

Yelp
The service is awful. I have been waiting for my order for a long time. I have ordered wanton soup and dinner entree with house fried rice. The fried rice came out first. So i asked the server where's the soup and she told me that they will serve what was cooked first. I worked in a restaurant and I know how it works. No apologies for the wait. So it's been 35 minutes and no food. The Mongolian beef came with the early cooked fried rice that is now cold. So when the food was brought out I asked where is my order General Tao chicken, the waitress said oh let me check. The waitress never came around to check on us. The food is just ok nothing to brag about. For the price we paid it's not worth it. I have been watching the other table s and food was placed on the wrong tables.

Yelp
Walked into Tanka Asian restaurant first let me say, this is a beautiful restaurant it was dimly lit and very welcoming. I was immediately seated and given a paper menu. Now for this to be such a nice restaurant I was given a paper menu. I was like is this your menu? But I am here for the food and drinks and not the menu so I digress. I ordered a drink called the Purple Moon it was made with Belvedere vodka, St Germain, Lavendar syrup and lemon juice. The drink was ok a little to much lavendar syrup which made it very syrupy. I ordered sushi for my appetizer the Spicy dragon roll which was made with shrimp tempura, salmon, cucumber topped with spicy mayo, spicy tuna and avocado. The sushi was amazing everything was fresh was not so spicy I had to drink water after eating but just a hint of spice just enough which was perfect for me. I ordered the pad thai for my main entree. I ordered it with beef and shrimp and again it tasted amazing. The noodles were cooked perfectly the shrimp was cooked perfectly and the beef was very tender. The flavors were flavoring lol! I will definately return to try other items on the menu. If you are ever in Miami in the Biscayne Bay area and have a taste for Asian food, do yourself a favor and check this place out!

Yelp
Absolutely phenomenal Asian fusion restaurant in the heart of Miami. Went on a Thursday night, the atmosphere is so cute, beautifully decorated and the service was great. Hashimi Jalapeño appetizer was exceptional. Fresh yellowtail with a ponzu sauce and sliced jalapeño, so so delicious. The cucumber sashimi sushi roll was excellent and my friends enjoyed the shrimp tempura roll and the spicy dragon roll. They also have a great happy hour! Highly recommend!

Yelp
If you can find it, you will be very impressed. Food is spectacular and the cocktails even better. Victor the bartender is a mixologist extraordinaire I have an Asian wife who is very picky when it comes to Chinese American food and she was blown away. Everything made from scratch, nothing frozen here. We ate in Klaw the night before but preferred it here. The pork bun is authentic, delicious and worth coming back as are all the appetizers. My wife loved her mapo tofu. Definitely coming back.
google avatar

Karen S.

Yelp
Excellent food. The sour vegetable fish soup and 3 cup chicken were the best I have ever had.
google avatar

Spencer S.

Yelp
I can only speak to food quality as I got delivery ...but the crystal vegetable dumplings were great, and the MaPo Tofu was incredibly tasty. As a vegetarian oriented eater, it was great to find delicious options here. I look forward to trying more dishes!

Yelp
Beautiful ambience great service delicious food. Very nice to enjoy with family and friends.

Yelp
I love the environment. It was very relaxing. The service was fast and the server was very pleasant. The food was excellent. I would recommend the soup dumpling..

Yelp
The food and atmosphere were very good. Everyone was pleasant. However, the service was not very good. Perhaps understaffed, which happens, but it detracted from the overall experience and interest in returning.

Yelp
This was a beautiful restaurant to dine in. Our waiter was prompt, professional and had great recommendations. Love the colors in the restaurant and it had a very upscale yet laid back vibe. Manager cared about his customers and asked everyone how their experience was. Drinks were strong and our bartender even asked us how we enjoyed them. Food was very delicious! So many great items on the menu. The bathrooms were clean and posh. Wish we had more time to try this place again. Interior design was 10/10! Great for an anniversary or first date.
google avatar

Rob D.

Yelp
Highly recommend the sesame crusted jalapeño hamachi. They leave a few seeds in for heat! Excellent! You'll want to order one for the table and one for yourself. Service was prompt and professional. Tried the pad Thai this time, very good. They didn't ask me for spicy rating. It came out fairly spicy. It was probably a 4 on scale 1-10. I like 6. I will definitely be back. Ambiance was very sophisticated.
google avatar

Jeff S.

Yelp
Absolutely blown away. We ordered three plates and all were perfect. What a treat it is to go to a restaurant and love everything served. This restaurant is a little hidden, but you owe it to yourself to discover it.
google avatar

Anton P.

Yelp
Looking for a fancy Chinese place to eat Peking duck? Look no further! This place has everything: nice interior, great service, amazing drinks, and delicious food with pretty decent portions. We ran out of pancakes for the duck and the extra portion was $5. Enjoy!

Berkeley A.

Yelp
Anthony is the superstar! Sushi is very good and he knows exactly what he is doing! Delicious sushi, gyoza, and noodles! Be sure to stop by this hidden gem!
google avatar

Rajiv K.

Yelp
Made a reservation and the hostess and manager were very friendly to greet and accommodate our wait for table despite my friends being late. The ambiance is dimly lit with a show kitchen. Quite a good crowd, with table turnover. People were quite dressy here. The food was very flavorful. I liked the pork bao bun and king salmon the best. The garlic fried rice was also a table favorite. While my friends enjoyed the duck, I felt it was a bit too fatty. The raspberry almond cake was a nice finish, and I would welcome an extra dessert option or two. I'd come back here - the food was good. Minor preferences that would be welcome from me by might be right for others: lower the music volume a tad and expand the menu with a few more dishes. Prices were above average, whereas portion size was average. The richness in the food left me and my party satisfied nonetheless.
google avatar

Stephen S.

Yelp
This was a small restaurant with quality food. The lighting was low, which created great atmosphere but made it hard to read the menu. It's Chinese food with a more upscale take on the taste of the food. The most annoying part of our meal is they forgot my meal. We had a group of seven people and everybody received their meal except me. I told are server they forgot to bring my meal out at the point where everyone was already done eating. The server argued with me and said they didn't forget my meal. 10 minutes later it came out with zero apologies and everyone at the table got to watch me eat.
google avatar

Savanna M.

Yelp
I was excited to try this newish spot for modern Chinese food in Edgewater. The space is nicely decorated, dark and cozy with a large bar for seating. Located in the same building as the doubletree hotel. The menu/food is good, but the prices honestly do not match up with the taste. The wagyu dumplings were excellent, but came room temp, almost cold. Everything else was just ok... we ordered the shrimp and garlic fried rice for the entree. The shrimp came without the rice, after about 10 minutes we asked about our server to check on it but didn't end up come out for about another 10 mins. Our server did apologize (prob not her fault) and she did comp the dessert which was a nice gesture for sure. Would I try again? Sure, but not running back.
google avatar

Lara R.

Yelp
The menu is a cool, modern take on American Chinese. The dishes that were good were flavorful, but different from what you'd normally expect from a Chinese joint in the US. Keep that in mind if you decide to come. There were a few dishes that were absolute hits-- bao buns, peking duck, general tanka chicken, and garlic fried rice. The chocolate surprise dessert was also delicious! The Peking duck comes flambéd, which was quite fun! The skin was nice and crispy. However, there were dishes that were not so great. The dim sum was bland and had an odd texture, which was such a let down because shumai is usually one of my favorites. Our drinks were watered down, too. The location is not the best, either. The restaurant is inside a dingy mall. Its pretty dark in restaurant too, which I'm not the biggest fan of. Our server was ok but our busser/food runner was fantastic! He described the dishes before placing them on the table and had a great attitude. We'll be back now that we know which dishes to avoid.

Mi L.

Yelp
Good Asian spot in Miami, nice dim sum as well as good curry. I would recommend to anyone visiting

Yelp
SERVICE WAS AWFUL!!!! If I could give zero stars I would. When we arrived they were about 60% full even less full by the time we left. After about 8min we were able to order two cocktails & a Texas Roll. We got the two cocktails no problem. Several people including the manager tried to take our menus & we told them we hadn't ordered & were ready. The manager came by again to take our menu & told her again we hadn't ordered & were ready. This time took our menu anyway. About 5-10min later we were finally able to order our meal. Still didn't have our TX roll. My husband ordered hot & sour soup and Szechuan chicken (which is just chicken nuggets with chili oil, no veg or rice) I ordered chicken gyoza. After all the tables around us who came in and ordered after us had their food. We asked where our food was and was told they were REALLY busy (there were several empty tables). We finally got the TX roll, chicken, & soup all at once all ice cold. My husband had to remind them several times about my food. By the time my oil soaked gyoza arrived my husband was done. Trying to get any kind of service was ridiculous. The manager had no solutions to the issues we had just the excuse that they were busy. (If that was busy then they're not used to having much business on a Friday night in downtown Miami). When we got the check no discount was given, not even an apology. The manager offered a discount only after a negative review was mentioned.

Leila S.

Yelp
This was our first time ever going to Tanka and the experience and atmosphere was amazing and they have such high expectations for what comes out of their kitchen, everything we have there was absolutely spectacular. We tried the Peking duck with boa buns and we have been searching for somewhere to get it from that can match Tanka but NOWHERE CAN COMPARE! Our server was very observant and whenever our drinks were close to being empty he would come and refill it without us even having to ask. Overall Tanka has been one of the best restaurants I've ever been to and me and my family will definitely be coming back

Jean F.

Yelp
We stopped there for lunch. It was excellent! The food and service was excellent. Unexpectedly, we hit daytime happy hour and got a discounted drink. I would highly recommend this restaurant. The food was great!i

Chad V Q.

Yelp
Service was bad. Started off very good then when we asked to sit by the bar because the air conditioning wasn't working it all changed. Server brought our food then left with no utensils so we had to wait till he came around again after 10 minutes and had to ask. The restaurant was empty so no reason for poor service. The food If you are looking for rolls they are good. If you are looking for an entree style meal don't do it. Sauces come from a bottle and they drown the food in the sauce. Presentation is very good. Garnished well. Best to find another place.

Richard F.

Yelp
Stumbled on the restaurant while staying in a hotel nearby. We like Chinese food and this is the best Chinese I've had in a long time. The Service was great - very attentive. The location itself was very nice with a nice atmosphere. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

Donnetta M.

Yelp
The service level and the sushi was excellent. The seaweed was the best I ever had. I recommend this restaurant very highly. The ambiance is amazing. Love it!
google avatar

Q M.

Yelp
The inside is super sleek and date night perfect. Would also be a great place for drinks with friends. Love the decor. The matchmaker margarita was spot on. The Dim sum was delicious! The shrimp fried rice could have used more flavor. Staff was nice and the food came quickly.
google avatar

Linda V.

Yelp
Located in a mall space linking Marriott Biscayne Bay hotel and a Doubletree Hotel. We went at dinner and it was excellent. We shared an order of spring rolls with a delicious dipping sauce and an order of edamame. The edamame was prepared differently than what we are used to, but still was good. We shared an entree called Tan Tan which was a noodle dish. It as more than enough for us both. Also had two Sapporo beers and bill was less than $80. Service was excellent (attentive).
google avatar

Shana M.

Yelp
The restaurant is beautifully decorated with velvet and gold touches. The service was just as good as the food. The server was tentative and the food timely. We ordered the rock shrimp and crab egg rolls as appetizers. The shrimp was really good, it came with pineapple and I think walnuts in the sauce. The crab roll, to be honest was just way too fishy for my liking and for most of the table. Out of 4 of us only one person ate it. For meals we ordered the peaking duck and lamb chops. Both were great. They set the duck on fire at table side and give you a show so have your cameras ready... unlike me. The lamb chops came with a gingery slaw that had pomegranate seeds in it... it was super delicious.
google avatar

Carla B.

Yelp
Great Chinese food in a city that lacks this type of cuisine. The location is a bit odd and would be the only thing I wish I could change. Service was good. Food was spaced out perfectly. We were a larger party of 8. We ordered a ton of stuff. The drinks were a bit watered down and the only "down side" of the entire evening. The wagyu and mushroom dumplings were delicious. As well as the duck spring rolls. The Tanka salad was super refreshing with a nice touch of mint in it. The bao buns were great too. We got the short rib noodles, the beef fried rice and the garlic fried rice. All three were tasty. The whole Peking duck was delicious and we got both the bao buns and the pancakes go wrap it in. It could use a little more veggie sides to stuff it with but that's just a minor detail. The matcha lava cake was really good too. Definitely recommend this spot as well as the chefs other restaurant in FLL
google avatar

Jay K.

Yelp
Food was just OK. Pork belly was not tender, thick and chewy, chicken bun didn't have much flavor and chicken was possibly under cooked. Shu mai had no flavor and weird texture. Restaurant was smoky and stinky so clothes sink after you leave. Overall not an experience I would recreate.
google avatar

Gabriela Z.

Yelp
As loyal Tony Chan's fans, we came to dinner to find another spectacularly delicious Chinese restaurant in its place and had a truly great dining experience! Loved the Peking Duck with pancakes, Calamari, and Shrimp Fried Rice. And the service was very attentive and enhanced our evening. Thank you, Tanka!

Jonathan J.

Yelp
Peking duck is a total scam. It is roasted duck piece with all the fat between the meat and the skin. It is not carved at all. Not in the table and not in the kitchen. In order to eat it without barfing you have to peel off the skin, remove the fat pad, etc. Half a duck for $50 was maybe 1 breast and scraps
google avatar

Cole K.

Yelp
Please don't be mislead by the reviews. The place is in the Marriott hotel and was absolutely disgusting. It made me sick and the place was super empty ( also not a good sign when eating Chinese ) I like to consider myself a foodie and don't want you to waste your time
google avatar

Rachel M.

Yelp
Dined last night (Thursday) and had a blast! It's located on the lower level of the Doubletree hotel. The interior was nicely appointed and welcoming. It was busy for 7:30pm with a mix of business casual and people out with friends. Service was fantastic! Everyone was very friendly and on top of clearing our plates and describing our dishes. We had the Tanka salad which was refreshing with its citrus vinaigrette and the salt pepper calamari for starters. Both were phenomenal and presented very well. Peking duck was superb. They even lit it on fire table side for a cool experience. Our favorite were the drinks! All were so cute and fun! I loved the panda drink presentation and the raspberry martini had a chocolate monkey garnish. The old fashion arrived smoky and had an amazing taste. This place hit all the marks. Service, food, drinks and ambiance. I'll be sure to return!

Yelp
This was my first time at the restaurant, and I have to say that I will definitely become a regular here. The modern Chinese food was excellent, and the prices were very reasonable. We ordered the wagyu dim sum, beef fried rice, and Peking duck, and everything was delicious with generous portions. We even took some of it to go. The bill came out to $110, which included the tip. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
Wow! This was probably my best "surprise" of 2023 and I eat out A LOT! The three dishes that my friend and I shared were all sooo excellent. The spring rolls were wonderfully crispy and not greasy. The in a garlicky sauce was cooked to perfection--not almost raw, as is sometimes the case or overcooked and mushy. And (much to my pleasant surprise) the teriyaki tofu was the best tofu dish I've ever eaten! The tofu itself was luscious and custard-like and the exterior was nice and crunchy! The teriyaki sauce was so yummy that I was scooping up the last of it with my ! The gorgeous modern and soothing interior design just adds to the wonderful experience. Check this place out!
