Good Atmosphere. Great Drink Selection. Delicious Food. Downtown local joint with great drink and flavorful food. Our group had the Goat Cheese Stuffed Chicken and the Albacore Tuna. Great place...would definitely recommend.

Google
Food was great! Well worth the 45 minute wait. Only reason it didn’t get 5 stars was due to the staff we ordered from was not welcoming nor friendly. I would have loved to get a drink during my wait, however he acted as if I was invisible and ignored my presence as I stood at the bar trying to get his attention. That long of a wait, at least offer water if you’re not interested in more sales with drinks from us. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Where do I start, the server was friendly and nice. The atmosphere was very quiet and had a low vibe jazz to it, the food was amazing. I ordered the Everett Street Burger with Caramelized Balsamic Mushrooms, Arugula, aged Tillamook Cheddar and Roasted Garlic Mayo. You can really taste it and it's not your regular burger. My meal also came with fries which is nice and I asked for spicy mayo on the side which went perfectly with the fries. I would definitely come back here again!

Unfortunately, this restaurant is permanently closed! Hopefully, something opens in this space soon! It’s a great hotel!

Google
Service was friendly, but only available at the beginning of the meal, once we got our food that was it, until the check. Which was kind of ok, we just wanted more waters. The pizza didn’t have a lot of flavor, the burger was amazing! Cool space to meet up with friends and have drinks.

Great happy hour deals (4-6pm) on drinks and food. Surprisingly one of the best burgers I've had. Cool industrial vibe with lots of seating and natural light.

First time at Korean BBQ staff was great and helpful. Food was excellent! I would recommend! I will be returning! Thank u for a great lunch!

Google
Pitiful, see photos for how much they give you with the $14 fish taco and $26 tuna dinner entrees. We had to eat a second dinner after this one, because we were still hungry. The seared tuna was still frozen in the middle, and the little tacos were only a few bites, like a small appetizer! Along with these entrees, we also got the cauliflower starter. We got the marionberry lemonade which according to my travel companion "didn't taste like marionberry or lemonade", and later that night a long island ice tea, which was "excruciatingly sweet". This place gets two stars because the cauliflower starter was actually really tasty, the best part of the meal by far, and the bartender who took our takeout order was very personable.

Yelp
This place was attached to my hotel in Portland, OR, but it wasn't a part of the hotel. I came down to try it out. Wasn't super hungry for any of the main courses. So I got the Tavern Burger and fries, no cheese. It was pretty decent. No complaints here. Made very well with a good juicy taste. Burger was the best I have had in a minute. So good for that. The fries were the shoestring fries. A little crispy, which is good in my book. Had a couple of the IPA they had on tap. They have a full bar and pretty good selection of beers and wine. The price is the going rate for decent food. Not cheap, not too pricey. If I am back in Portland for work again, and stay at same place, I would give them another try and see what else they have on the menu!

Yelp
Had dinner here one night when staying at the adjoining Hampton. This restaurant is NOT run by the hotel, even though they post its menu in the elevators. We liked this place. Food is good. It's not breathtakingly good, but it's good. Everything we had was well prepared and seasoned. Service was friendly and helpful without being overbearing. They have a nice selection of dishes. Would definitely eat here again when staying at the Hampton.

Yelp
In town for the weekend and stopped to try out the Tanner Creek Tavern we started with the Starters Meatballs were decently flavored. Calamari was flavored well with a good dipping sauce on the side. I ordered the ceaser salad, it had good flavor. Service was good.

Yelp
Was late, hungry, and was looking for some good food. Wasn't expecting much from a hotel restaurant. We ordered the grilled chicken sandwich, Everett burger, and pasta with meat sauce. Surprisingly, one bite into the Everett burger, and I was convinced it was one of the best burgers I've ever had. The meat was cooked to perfection. It was tender and juicy. The grilled mushrooms and melted cheese were a perfect match, and the arugula added the final flavor. The pasta with bolognaise sauce was cooked perfectly, and the flavor was infused into the pasta. The grilled chicken sandwich was just ok, nothing to praise about. The one negative thing about the dishes was the fries. It was way too salty. If I'm visiting here next time, I'll be back for another burger for sure.

Yelp
Short and sweet, well more sour than sweet. Absolutely the worse service that I've experienced in some time. The nameless server was rude, non-attentive and lacked professionalism. Food was cold and took way too long to get. Ambiance was better. But, hey this is a hotel restaurant so the bar wasn't set that high. A no for me.
google avatar

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised by this hotel restaurant! With many hotels foregoing full restaurant services, I was amazed to have found this place! The place had a great mellow vibe, very friendly staff, and delicious food and drink offerings! I had a beet appetizer and a chicken dish while my colleague had the burger. As easy as those 2 dishes may sound, cooking them the right way is not quite as simple! My chicken was cooked thoroughly while remaining moist, and the burger was medium in the truest sense of the word! It wasn't under or over! I loved their fries too - people think fries are all the same, but it's definitely not! :) If I ever stay at the Hampton Inn Pearl District in Portland again, I won't bother walking out for meals - I'm just gonna stay here! :)

Yelp
I am a guest of the Hampton Inn hotel which is attached to this restaurant. After a long day of being a tourist I just wanted some thing light and tasty for dinner. So I opted for the white bean soup. Upon entering the restaurant the bartender was attentive and helpful. He brought me a glass of water while I made my order and also answer the question about the menu. My item came out quickly, which I'm not surprised about given that it's soup, so it's probably premade. It was more like a stew than a soup. There was little to no broth. But I was hungry so I figured I would at least eat it. It was not flavorful. I don't think there was any salt in it and no other seasonings. So it was just a stew of spinach and white beans and maybe some onions with no broth and very little flavor. It was also $10 and the cup was only half full. So I definitely did not get my moneys worth. I would not return to this restaurant nor would I recommend it to anyone.

Yelp
While staying at Hampton Inn we cam here for a couple of times, once for some food and beer and just drinks for second time. The hamburger was a little dry but the fries tasted great. The beet salad had lots of beet slices that seemed like they all came out of can but tasted okay. The bartenders were nice and friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
Devon is the man. He was a great server and bar tender... when you get here ask for him he's the real deal when it comes to bartenders. The man is kind and caring to all my families needs. Thanks again man!

Yelp
I feel like I might be alone in my feelings towards this restaurant. IF it was not for the other half of my party really enjoying their meal I might be inclined to give it only 3 stars. I ordered the special of the night, which was seared Ahi Tuna, served with bok choy, and potatos. The fish was cooked nicely it was just blanned, as they only used salt and pepper and nothing else. I prefer my food a little jazzier than just salt and pepper. The potatos were fine, but the bok choy could have been cooked a little better. My husband had the beef stew and my mom had the chicken. They both raved about their dishes. I really enjoyed the ambience and the service, so for that alone I might return.
google avatar

Dara W.

Yelp
Would be inclined to give this place negative stars for the service alone, but alas no zero star option on Yelp. I thought it was peculiar that the front desk of the hotel where this restaurant is located made sure to tell us at check in that they were independently owned. It makes sense now why - definitely not Hilton quality service. The restaurant itself is very dark and just as uninviting as the rude female staff member at the bar. Can't speak to the food because we decided to take our business elsewhere. Very unfortunate.
google avatar

Yelp
There was absolutely amazing service! I could not believe how nice and helpful our server was. I got the Tagliatelle with Bolognese (not before some Herbed Lamb Meatballs) and it was also incredible. I highly recommend trying this restaurant, named after the now underground creek.

Yelp
When we checked into the Hampton hotel by Hilton, we were told the tavern is not associated with the hotel and can not charge to our room. We unpacked and headed down for a drink with our family, I had a paper cup with water witch I got from the hotel. We were abruptly stoped by the rude bartender stating we could not bring the cup in, we explained it was just water, again he was very rude and said he didn't care what it was no outside drinks. We then proceeded to sit out side, we were then met by the waitress, which was even rudder than the bartender tender. We wanted to sit outside she said there are too many in your party (5). We were becoming frustrated and wanted a drink. We sat at the bar being ignored by the bartender. After finally getting our drink again in a rude manner, the drink was poorly mixed and tasted bad. Enough was enough. We left paid the bill with NO tip and ventured out to find a respectful restaurant. Which we did. So, if you want a nice dinner with friendly staff do not come here, walk down the street where you will be grated with a friendly smile. Also, since the tavern is not associated with the Hilton, why are the doors open into the lobby? Again, don't spend your money here. I rate the tavern a 00

Yelp
Tanner Creek Tavern is conveniently located off the lobby of the Hampton Inn & Suites. It was a cold damp evening and the modern decor of the restaurant did not make it feel warm and inviting. We ended up at a table in the corner facing the restaurant and bar. I ordered Goat Cheese Stuffed Chicken and my wife ordered Tavern Burger. I do not think I have enough superlatives to describe the chicken. You must try it to believe it. My wife had great things to say about the burger. For dessert we shared a Flourless Chocolate Tort and a Baked Cheesecake. I guess we were spoiled be the entrees because the dessert seemed anticlimactic.

Yelp
If your expectations are grounded in the fact that it is a hotel restaurant then it is a pretty good place. Food and drinks are good. Was able to find a few things to work for the kids but there was no kids menu per se. Service was good though.

Yelp
Edit - it's the next night and they are still the only restaurant open. Repeated last nights beet salad order and my daughter got a Caesar. Still awesome, even running in empty as the only place open for miles in 108 degree heat! It was so hot yesterday and the thought of going out to find dinner when it was 104 degrees just wasn't sounding great. I'm usually not an "eat at the hotel restaurant" kind of person. In general it is usually overpriced and lacking in quality. I was pleasantly surprised. I had the beet salad, which was fabulous. The bartender recommended a bourbon drink that was refreshing and wonderful! It was pricey, but worth not having to venture out.

Yelp
What a big ripoff ! Just for 1 drink ...asked for boulevardier cocktail ! :( I feel he should have tell me the price for top shell premium product ! Tourists beware ! Don't go there . Also bartender was not nice at all with me after I asked if I got a discount employee working for the Hilton portfolio ! My friend recommended this Hotel and got 30 % employees discount but today for me nothing ! To bad we were going to eat with a party of 4 !!! So we went to Grassa Italian Pasta! Really really recommend fox! Foods amazing and staff very very nice ! So save your money and don't go to the Tanner creek Tavern. What happened with Oregon Portland! It use to be nice and reasonable price !

Yelp
Staying at the Hampton Inn adjacent to Tanner Creek Tavern for 3 nights and had 3 dinners here. The team of Justin, Shannon, and Randa are a well oiled machine. Service has been excellent and to top it off the Food was great. Definitely recommend the mussels with chorizo and soffrito. And the burgers are over the top.
google avatar

Stacie N.

Yelp
Food was good, but nothing spectacular, typical American fare. Decent variety on the menu - burgers, pizza, pasta, salad. My partner and I had the burger and chicken burger which came with a side of salty fries. They were able to accommodate a large party reservation on short notice. Service was great, our waiter and hostess were attentive and friendly.

Bill S.

Yelp
I ordered a Tavern Burger. It was tasteless, the fries were terrible. Service was Ok. Atmosphere was non-existent. Couldn't hear the music. Some soccer game on TV that no one seemed to care about. I do not recommend.

Andrea K.

Yelp
The service is exceptionally rude. While ordering we were told wow you are ordering a lot of food with an eye role. The waiter had to be tracked down just so we could order. The manager asked us if we could move our table while we were waiting for our food because she had a party of 5, we were a party of 5 . If you want to spend your money and feel unwelcome at a restaurant this is the place you should go. I will choose to spend my money at a more respectful restaurant.

Yelp
#fatjared say... enjoyable meal for sure, but nothing over the top amazing! The place is cozy and fun. TV's, full bar, nice tables, simple menu, a lot of what I love! To start with complaints, and these are minimal, but I always expect a good variety of brews on tap. They didn't have any stouts or porters available, and while the bottled brew I got was local, it's just not the same! The snap peas were ok, but not too amazing. A bit oily for me. The mousse at the end was awesome, but not quote as fluffy as a true mousse. The presentation was on point though! The brussel spouts I got were amazing!! Flavor was on point, not too greasy, crunchy and cooked well! My girlfriends ribs were also very tasty! The meat fell off, and you could bite into the tip of the bone meaning it's good and tender! The all star of the meal was the lamb meatballs though (SORRY I forgot a pic!) I love lamb...like favorite meat by far! I always order it. The sauce that came with it was great. It was sitting on eggplant, the onions with it were amazing, it was tender, it was tasty, it was ALL THAT!! I thought about giving 4 stars, but overall experience and food was just average for the price and for the atmosphere I was expecting when I walked in! 3.8 though!

Edlyn F.

Yelp
Visiting from the East coast and had dinner at Tanner Creek with family. Food and drinks were amazing. Highly recommend making this a stop if you want good food and ambiance. Staff was attentive and great. The owner stopped to chat to us, dining and bar customers making everyone feel welcome and part of the Tanner Creek family. Great location. We will also having a wedding rehearsal dinner here as the wedding venue is across the street. Great location. Thank you Tanner Creek for being part of a wonderful stay in Portland!!! We will see you in the fall.

Quenton M.

Yelp
Overall, the food was very tasty, but the portions were a bit skewed and the flow of service was rough. For the portions, i ordered the goat cheese stuffed chicken breast and that's truly all that comes with the meal. One bone-in chicken breast. A bit taken aback with it being one of the highest priced items on the menu and the burger comes with more food than one person can eat. Some flow issues with service as I mentioned but not their fault with staffing issues nowadays.
google avatar

Yelp
Great place to share a lot of delicious bites with friends. Bar area and restaurant it's pretty big so we didn't reserved place for 4 but anyhow got good window table on Saturday night. I loved to share bites and cosmo was great!!! Mussels 5/5 Fries 5/5 Ribs I didn't tried because I don't eat pork but my husband said it was great. Deviled egg 5/5 Cosmopolitan 5/5 Ham and olives fritters 5/5 Food is really good there and I'm looking forward to spend romantic dinner with my husband.

Yelp
Woah! Who knows food from a "Tavern" can be soo complex and delicious these days!? (But, to tell the truth, I strongly believe that places in Portland named "Tavern" is just for gimmick..) Anyhow, I thoroughly enjoyed the Alabama BBQ Chicken, the Roasted Winter Squash, and the Kung Pao Stir Fry of Fall Vegetables. Soo full of flavors and well-prepared, the chicken was tender and moist. The two veggie dishes were much more exciting, taste wise, than one might have expected from their names. There seems to be some kind of chilli paste in them, which I totally loved! Great job, y'all!

Yelp
This place is connected to the new Hampton Inn & Suite Hotel in the Pearl District. We had just finish shopping and we had some time to kill for dinner. We came back to the hotel to drop off our bags and we didn't want to stay in the room and be lazy, which will make us tired. Its so nice and convenient for them to have this place. They have HH daily from 4pm-6pm. We sat at the bar so that we could watch the Winter Olympics on one of their two large screen TVs. Initially they had it on a basketball game but I asked the bartender and he was more than happy to honor my request. He did tell me that the owner likes at least one TV to have basketball on. We didn't order any food but people around us did and boy, did it looked and smelled good. I know the couple next to me had the grilled pork ribs and I couldn't stop salivating! The staff were really nice and provided great services. It's a very decent size place; great for big or some groups. They have a bar area and a dinning area. The noise level was average. Great place to go grab a bite/drink and watch a game, especially if you are a Trail Blazers' fan.

Yelp
Lip-smackin, finger-lickin, duck wings, crispy and tender to the bone, smothered in special saba sauce were so delicious---staked high served in a bowl---try it, bet you like 'em too! And we threw down 2 Breakside IPA's ($7 a pop---a little over the top for even the Pearl District). The bar & restaurant is part of the newly opened Hampton Inn, so it is decked out well along 9th Ave and Everett St. There are 2 super wide, about 30+ feet, rollup hydraulic doors which open the bar area to the very busy 1st Thursday street side activity. Concrete, steel, wood and glass construction completes a convivial space to chill out, wine/beer & dine, or meet up with others. Certainly we'll go back again!
google avatar

Yelp
Terrible service. Cannot get anyone to take an order so we left without food or drink. Dark, cold atmosphere. Waste of time.

Yelp
This is not gourmet dining but it is a good reasonably priced meal with very nice service. We were tired from a day of traveling and yes staying at the Hampton Inn and Suites. Went to the Tanner Creek Tavern connected to the hotel for a late dinner. My husband had the pasta bolognese and I had the fish tacos. We shared the strawberry cheesecake and the flan. All were good. We were pleasantly surprised. It was just what we needed.
google avatar

Gabriela H.

Yelp
I love this place!!! It's a great local joint and right by the Hampton Inn, so it makes for easy travel. The HH menu is always different but the portions are generous!! The regular menu offers soup of the day, mussels, pizza, the Tavern burger, and an array of intriguing options! I've had their cheese plate, pizza, fries, and the Tavern Burger...never been disappointed. You can't go wrong!!

Tara T.

Yelp
In town for a concert, made a reservation here before the show based on Yelp reviews. Not sure if it was just our bad luck but that night waited forever for our food and had to chase down our waiter numerous times. After 45 mins, all of our meals were received cold and inedible. Felt unwelcome and ignored. Would not recommend.

Yelp
I think this restaurant has an opportunity for great success in the future. Going opening-night there are always timing issues but the dishes were consistently good. We started with a several shared apps including the crispy deep fried beets which retained their usual moisture with a deliciously breaded outside. Another hit at our table included the burrata that was fresh and melt in your mouth which balanced the sweetness of the honeydew and figs. I would easily come here again for the clams, the broth had a little spice to it and had a good lingering flavor. The main dishes were light but flavorful. I wouldn't expect that to be my entire meal without having an appetizer first or at least adding some side dishes. The pork confit was the star of the show but it was really the sides that were the supporting foundation. I loved the carrots with pistachio, slightly overcooked is my only callout. Dessert wasn't anything to write about . Seasonal fruit cobbler was ok, the upper crust was not like a true cobbler but the honey ice cream on top was a sweet treat. It's a brand new space in a surprisingly beautiful Hampton Inn. It's fresh looking and open which is a good way to see all the action outside the kitchen in the heart of the Pearl district. A great place to come and enjoy the inventive cocktails

Yelp
We visited Tanner Creek Tavern for Portland Dining Month and enjoyed it a lot more than I was expecting! I'd never heard of the restaurant before, and neither had my in-laws, who joined us, but we all had a good meal and great service. I had the market fish, which was salmon, and it was served with kale sprouts (my favorite veggie) over a bed of hummus. The server did a great job talking to the kitchen about my food allergies and they were able to leave out a few ingredients and I still had a fabulous, flavorful meal. My husband had the PDM meal, which was roasted chicken, and came with a salad starter and a lemon cake for dessert. He said it was delicious, and felt the dessert was the weakest part. He's not a dessert fan though, so take that with a grain of salt. The in-laws liked their meals a lot too (I forget by now what they had, sorry!). The service was attentive and friendly, but not obtrusive. The noise level in the place was surprisingly low, given the hard surfaces and high ceilings, so it made conversation around the large round table for the 5 of us easy. So many places are just so LOUD, it's nice to find a place that is lively but you can still hear your conversations.

Yelp
Walked by this place last weekend and had a nice short convo with one of their hostesses on her cigarette break.....very sweet girl. Hope she goes far in her career in nursing.....I came back with a colleague the next day for lunch and ordered their banh mi.....which was pretty good, but it certainly was not banh mi.... Like so many often do, they misspelled the word as 'bahn' on their menu, but this is hippyville where cultural appropriation and lack of research is the norm.... Also, I have never had hoisin in any banh mi sandwich....That aside, it was still very tasty...and the service and ambiance are stellar. We also ordered the manila clams, which was perfectly delicious and citrusy. I highly recommend that dish....The prices are on par with the rest of the Pearl District.
google avatar

Jarvid H.

Yelp
I had the goat cheese stuffed chicken and it was delicious. The only negative is that it did not come with a side. It's connected to the Hampton by Hilton Hotel. Meatballs were good a order only comes with 3. Calamari was good also. I would recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
This restaurant is just not that great. We've had dinner there twice now, and our experiences have been mixed. Maybe it's because the place has a largely captive audience in the hotel? The food is just not that special, plus it's inconsistent. For example, on our first visit a couple of months ago, the Caesar salad was excellent, but on the second visit (just last Thursday night) the Caesar was just meh. The bacon and potato pizza was almost terrible and really not worth eating. (How can anyone ruin a pizza?) The other dishes have been so surprisingly ordinary that I cannot recommend the place to anyone, except maybe for a bar drink. In my opinion, the Tanner Creek Tavern owners can easily do better. Simply serving well-prepared pub grub would be a nice improvement over the existing menu preparations.
google avatar

Dustin E.

Yelp
This is a nice place, connected to the Hampton but not part of it. Good drinks and service. We didn't try the food. The place closes pretty early for a bar, but seems to be common in this area. It's a very enjoyable atmosphere and ambiance. Indoor seating, bar seats and outdoors as well. Stop by for a drink.

Yelp
I've been here several times while staying at the Hampton Inn for cocktails.....Dan the bartender is awesome !!!!

Yelp
By far the very best hamburger I've ever had in my 58 years! This is a must-go-to spot in Portland. In fact, if you're visiting Seattle you should drive down to this restaurant for lunch. They do a phenomenal job on food, service, and overall experience. Their tortellini is also really great as well as fries beet appetizer. So glad this place is in town. Please try it. Update. I'm downgrading my review slightly. Despite the excellent food, the service here is getting progressively worse. It's turning into one of those spots where the staff spends more time taking among themselves rather than helping customers. Tonight there were FIVE staff members tacking with THREE kitchen staff for probably a good 5 minutes. The one person at the bar had too many customers and couldn't take care of everyone. 15 minutes later there are now four staffers with the kitchen staff. Maybe something is wrong tonight! But I know I'm portland it's not uncommon as restaurants get more popular the staff seems to form a "club", and the customers become outsiders. Ugh. New chef and team now. The burger is no longer my personal favorite. It's only so-so. Why. Why. Why did you change. One more update. Only one bartender at 5:30 on a Saturday night seems a little crazy. It's simply not possible for him to provide a level of service consistent with pricing and location. Soon to lose another star from me.

Yelp
We're at Tanner Creek Tavern for the first time. We decided to try the restaurant since the restaurant was participating in the Portland Dining Month. We had The Radicchio Salad with Cara Cara. Orange and Grilled Asparagus with Poached Egg starters. The Grilled Asparagus was excellent. The poached egg was prepared perfectly. The Radicchio Salad was prepared with too much dressing. For mains, we had the Trout and also the Pork Shoulder. Both were excellent.. The Pork Shoulder was moist and tender. The Trout had deliciously crispy skin and moist tender flesh. For dessert whad the Panna Cotta with Lemon Curd. The Panna Cotta was served with Brown Sugar Crumbles that softened the tartness of the Lemon Curf. Excellent Excellent dessert. Nice space and decor. Sound level was just right. Great service. Were looking forward to trying the Tavern's other offerings during future visits.

Yelp
We had a Cousins Night Out (Bad Moms Edition), but really more like Responsible-Golden-Girls-Type-Asian-Moms night. So we swung into this great spot after our mini beer crawl through downtown. We ordered literally every dessert off the menu except for the corn bread dessert (which still came out by accident). And also a few coffees with a splash of Baileys. Every dessert we had was absolutely phenomenal. The ones that stood out the most for me though were: -Chocolate Mousse Hazelnut Cake which is for the gluten-free folks. Extremely delectable! -Honey Panna Cotta with Pomegranate was literally orgasmic the moment the cream touched our lips. The interior decor was very contemporary however still somewhat inviting. The restaurant is attached to a boutique hotel which also had amazing decor. I would have to say everything was pretty on point except for the Coffees with Baileys that we had. We could not figure out why it tasted so bad (even the shot of Baileys nor the whipped cream helped). I'm thinking the coffee beans just weren't fresh. Either way, the wonderful dessert made up for the bad cup of midnight Joe. And the staff were pretty accommodating to our group of 7.

Yelp
Licking my fingers!!! The duck wings were amazingly delicious ... perfectly large lettuce in the Caesar salad and French fries. Spare ribs were also good, per my son. The dipping sauce was good too. Atmosphere was nice stays open til midnight and it's was connected to our hotel.

Yelp
Burgers, fries and drinks are top notch. Excellent service without any delay. Will head back for regular service because happy hour was just that awesome.

Yelp
Would like to stress the kindness and grace of the (short) staffed crew at this spot--one of the few open in the historic 110 degree heat. Food was good and space worked for our party of eight, which included some older folks. Dan, our server, was a rockstar. Probably not my first choice as a Portlander, but if you're in the hotel/area and need a spot good for a large party... this is it.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our double-date here. The beat and radish salad was light and fresh. The mushroom soup wwiyh a gruyere crust was different and good. And the mussels had their own sauce twist, and it worked!! And, although I don't have pictures, all three of my guests had the schnitzel and all said it was amazing! A definite will go back.

Yelp
Sometimes restaurants try to overcomplicate recipes and forget that simple food with quality ingredients is what speaks to the traveler's soul. This place is trying to be too posh with its aioles and corn hash and herbal infused sauces that it actually diminishes the taste of the stars of the dish. It's like the restaurant needs to take a step back and edit. What may sound like poetry on the page in reality is a disharmony of flavors. This restaurant falls into this category. I had the roasted chicken with vegetables. The chicken was crispy and cooked perfectly but then it was smothered in a complicated tart and nutty sauce that detracted from the beautiful piece of meat. The same could be said for my husband's dish. He ordered the catch of the day. One, the fish portion was small and two it was overpowered by the corn hash and sauce beneath. Even the appetizer we had, chips and spicy chirozo cheese sauce had too much going on. What it comes off as arrogant or presumptious. Keep it simple, let the ingredients shine, and leave the need to "impress" speak through the food only- not on the page.

Yelp
Did a nightcap and dessert here after a show. About 9:30 and service was a little slow but it was the end of the Valentine's Day rush and so maybe that's why? Champagne was great. Banana crisp was very good with a boozy ice cream on top. Brownie with mint ice cream was a different combo. We love the brownie but weren't true fans of the spearmint ice cream. The brownie and a donut dessert were the specials for Valentine's Day so it's possible other regular dessert offerings might be worth giving a try. Will say dinners on the tables around us looked good!

Yelp
Fantastic addition to the Portland dining scene! Passed the Tavern a few times coming home from the gym. It stood out on a sunny day because of the open industrial doors giving it a very SoHo look. I couldn't place what was there before or when Tanner Creek suddenly appeared, but when a friend asked me to lunch on a gorgeous Indian Summer day, I didn't hesitate to suggest we check it out. Both of us are glad I did! All of the tables by the open walls were taken so we opted for the bar. It was bright and sunny and you could feel a breeze. My friend saw the hot pastrami sandwich on another customer's table and decided to go for that. He hesitated because he was trying to eat healthy. I ordered the salad with grilled chicken, walnuts and blue cheese. I suggested we share and that way we each would have a half a sandwich and a salad. The perfect lunch. By the look on his face I could see he was hesitant to share, so I made an offer. I told him if the after the first bite he decided he wanted the entire sandwich, we would nix the sharing proposal. The hot pastrami arrived and before he tasted it, the smell already told me there was no way I was getting half! Then he took a bite and the expression on his face said it all! Pure happiness. I said, "I'm having just a salad for lunch, right?" And I was! His exact words were, "OMG, this sandwich is amazing." He gave me a bite and I thought, if this was my sandwich, I wouldn't share it either! The pastrami was deliciously seasoned, cooked to melt-in-your-mouth perfection. The sauerkraut was home made, which I never had before but now i can never have the canned version again. This sandwich is seriously delicious! Oh, and the salad was absolutely wonderful - but it's not the hot pastrami with home made sauerkraut - and it's that sandwich that will draw me back to Tanner Creek Tavern over and over again! And to think this place just opened. Can't wait to see how they evolve since they are starting out running! Go, you won't be disappointed. Oh, and I didn't post pictures because the food was consumed in record time! Next time...
