I love the selection of hard to find import games. As someone who loves shedding and trick taking games, I was impressed by the amount of games on offer.

This is an EPIC board game, table game and card game store! It can be a bit overwhelming but I do like the various sections like games for one, games for two, new games etc. We spent about an hour browsing and purchased Root as well as Arkham Horror. Prices were in line with online retail and we like supporting brick and mortar. We will make it a must-stop while in Austin.

So many great games here! I have been so impressed with their tabletop RPG selection and their general board game selection. It’s a frequent stop for me and great every time!

Don’t live in Texas but I bought a game from their website as a Christmas gift. Less than an hour after my order was placed I had a tracking number and UPS confirmed receipt of the package. Never had an order fulfilled so quickly! I’ll check here when buying in the future. Sad I don’t live closer, seems like a great shop!

Tanuki used to be a beacon of honor in terms of pricing Pokemon cards. I sadly report they now charge double even triple what msrp is. There are still other stores that charge msrp or slightly above. Go support and buy from them instead

A local and fun place that hits the mark every time. The selection of board games, tcgs, dice, models. I love it!! I always have to ask for recommendations because my head just keeps spinning with everything they have. If you're looking for a local spot that offers some great variety and amazing prices, this is it. The owners are as awesome as the games they sell!

Fantastic store! Very helpful staff and tons of options. So many imported games that I can't find anywhere else. I love stopping in here every time I'm in town. It's also in a interesting area with other Asian stores and good restaurants.

A cozy store with lots and lots of games! Currently, masks are required, and there is a sign recommending the use of the provided hand sanitizer before picking up/touching the games. There is also a 12-person limit inside the store at one single time. They have a large variety of games for kids and adults alike. The store itself is not the biggest, but all four walls are lined from floor to ceiling with games. There are additional tables with piles of games as well. It's definitely one of the largest collections of board games I've ever encountered at a store. Even with their enormous collection, the games are organized and sorted neatly. But if you're overwhelmed with finding what you're looking for, an employee with gladly assist you with your needs. If you're in need of a new board game, this is the spot to check out!

If your enthusiasm for board games extends Monopoly, this is the place for you. Hundreds of board games and expansions packs in stock. I frequent multiple game shops like these and this one trends on the lower end of game prices too. This is usually my go-to shop for boardgames, because they're fully stocked and more likely than not, I will save a couple bucks on the games I'm after in comparison to their competitors.

They offer affordable/reasonable prices on a vast selection of board games from short games to full campaigns. Any board game fanatic will love this place! The prices are never more expensive than the online retail prices.

Really cool place with lots of card and board games to offer. This place is jump packed of otaku and gaming materials. They offer different cards like MTG, pokemon, and more. Card games and board games from affordable to expensive ones. Always interesting to see walk around this store.

Incredibly solid board game store plus a decent selection of miniatures, including Warhammer, AD&D, and Star Wars. No wargames, per se, and no tables for gaming, but the selection is probably the best in the greater Austin area. Owner and workers could be more engaged. Nevertheless, the games speak for themselves.

An outstanding game store. Although I don't live nearby, I've ordered many games from them online. Everything is well packaged and carefully shipped. Chris has been incredibly helpful with great communication. I love the variety of games they carry - many that I have a difficult time finding elsewhere. The prices are excellent. The opportunity to purchase some crowdfunding games as well adds such great variety. It's pretty rare to find someone willing to really establish a relationship with a customer with patience and such a collaborative spirit - let alone facilitating that from a distance. To me even though I live on CA this is my FLGS. Very highly recommended.

What great store! I needed to order a new board game that had just come out, so that it would arrive in my home across the country before we all went on family vacation. Chris went WAY above and beyond in personally making sure my game was packed and shipped as soon as possible, and we received the game in time! When my brother and his wife visited for a special occasion, they requested that we go here. They are board game fanatics and this place was their heaven. I couldn't get them to leave! To make up for the time lost they allowed me to buy whatever board game I wanted and I thankfully got a really cool card game called Bridge City Poker. I loooooove this game and I can't wait to share it with others.

The Gaming Goat is relatively new, over a year old. It's located across the street from Vigilante Gaming Bar, but they're not a restaurant and they don't serve alcohol. It's similar to Tribe where they sell some snacks and drinks from Costco. They also permit you to bring in outside food and drinks from other restaurants. They sell games at 30% below MSRP for $60 and above. It's 20% below MSRP for less than $60. They don't sell Secret Hitler because their distributor doesn't have a relationship with the publisher. They sold out of Champions of Midgard. Other than that, they carry more inventory than Mage's Sanctum, Tribe, Emerald Tavern, and Dragon's Lair. My sister in law's boyfriend was able to find Azul, which was sold out at every other gaming store in Austin.

Staff was super friendly and knowledgeable. They have a great game selection and most of their games are cheaper than at other locations. Bought 3 board games in my first visit and will definitely go there for more.

Although I didn't have the privilege of going in-store (as I live a state away) I ordered from their online shop as I could not find Catan's Starfarers ANYWHERE else, it has been sold out or on backorder pretty much everywhere as of recent. And I looked very hard! I came across this local game store's online shop and I was so SO thankful not only to find it, but to also see it was discounted. Tanuki Games saved my Christmas, as my partner is going to be so excited to get the game he's wanted for the longest time. I would definitely buy from their online shop again. My girlfriend and I booked a Getaway cabin with the intention of disconnecting from the outside world. We aren't really board game people but thought it would be fun to get a two person game for our trip. We live up the road from The Gaming Goat and decided to check it out. We had a few games in mind and decided to go check them out in person before buying them. The staff here was incredibly thoughtful and made some great recommendations for us. We even accidentally grabbed a card game that wasn't 2 player as an impulse buy and they were kind enough to refund it and exchange it towards a different game!

I love that they still require masks! (July 2021) Wide selection of video games, D&D books, game minis, etc! The store is immaculate and very friendly for someone new to board games.

Great selection of games but more importantly, great prices! Finally a store in the area that makes it easy for consumers to support the FLGS. Will definitely be coming here for my board game purchases. Also, Chris and the rest of the staff are super friendly and inviting. Don't hesitate to ask questions and learn more about what they offer. They also have a great selection of demo games (see photos).

Really cute place to hold some type of nerdy tournaments. It's spacious to maybe hold about 40 people playing cards or 20 doing something along the lines of dnd. I asked about a game which the guy behind the counter knew and it's rare and he tried to find it but no avail and told us to try across the street at vigilantes. Not many people or places will divert customers because that'll of course lead to less business for them. But he didn't mind them at all. So tldr; come here for games and hold some type of tournament here to support local and small businesses that carry pride over their stuff than the bigger people who care nothing about you but their wallet.

My family and I ran across this shop while looking for a restaurant in the area. We stopped in to kill some time and I was transported back to my youth l, before my Atari 2600 turned me into a video gamer. From old classic board games like Cosmic Encounter to newer games such as Settlers of Catan, they have a great selection in a small area. The staff was unobtrusive, so I can't speak for their knowledge of what they sell, but we weren't in need of the help. We made a few purchases. I bought Takenoko for the same price as listed on Amazon and didn't notice any major differences on our other purchases. So, if you like analog games, check it out.

Truly, a jarring experience walking in for the first time and being exposed to the HUGE selection of board games they have to offer. Formerly known as "The Gaming Goat", Tanuki Games offers, in my opinion, the best shopping experience for board games. There is truly something for everyone in there, and it is categorically organized so you are not backtracking around the store looking for specific games, but taking in all what they have to offer. I've purchased 3 different board games here (one of which was an absolute deal) and I never feel as if they are gatekeeping, pompous, or condescending in any way, which is a problem I feel plagues most stores of this genre. Board games are meant to be enjoyed by anyone and they truly have a board/card/party/ANY game for everyone, which I appreciate. I can not recommend this place enough for its selection of board games and will be returning soon.

A wonderful gaming store. I don't live in the Austin area but I have ordered from Tanuki Games many times. Chris has always been very communicative and you can tell he loves what he does. Great customer service, awesome pricing on kickstarters and super fast shipping.

I'm so glad I discovered this store! It's well-stocked with tons of popular titles and some rare games as well. They can place custom orders if they don't have what you're looking for in the store. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. I asked for a recommendation when I visited and ended up learning about a bunch of new games. My wish list just got a lot longer! There are several large tables for gaming. It looks like a fun and chill place to play, especially if they allow folks to bring in snacks from the nearby cafes. There's lots of free parking too! I like to support local businesses when I buy things like games and books. This place is definitely going at the top of my list next time I'm looking for a new board game for myself or a friend.

Great great great store. I was out and about and saw a game I wanted so I called these guys and they had a better version of the game plus an expansion. Price was great too! Then the cool guy working talked up a few other games I was eyeing and they all sounded fun so I grabbed more. They have a really great layout for shopping and it makes it easy to find new games. I ended up buying about 5 or 6 new games and I'm so excited to head out to a brewery now to bust these open.

This is one of the most welcoming stores I have been to. Not only is their customer service is exceptional but I did not feel judged coming into the store asking questions or even getting a new game. Even another customer gave a recommendation which we purchased and have had a blast playing with friends and family. Will definitely be coming back and recommending others here.

I have come to this location twice now, and the selection seems to be growing. On my last trip here, I was able to pick up a game I have been looking at for a while called Destinies and was able to get a great deal on the game. My wife also found a game called Vinhos from Eagle Griffin Games, and we ended up buying it as well.

This might be the game store I've been waiting for. Great selection, free gaming library, and very welcoming of families with well mannered kids. Staff were friendly and open to questions. My husband, 10 yr old son and I stayed about 90 minutes playing one of their library games. We never felt rushed to wrap it up and other customers came over and chatted us up. Even though it's new, it already has a good vibe and feels like a community. And their game pricing was some of the most reasonable I've seen in the area!

I love that this place exists and we're getting more and more great gaming spaces in Austin. Their selection of games for the size was quite impressive. Sure they have the staples that everyone knows and loves that help get new players hooked, but they also have plenty of more obscure titles if your game night has gotten stale. I saw one game I've wanted for a while but have never seen in person and was so happy to see it I didn't even bother to comparison shop on my phone first. I feel like the space compares favorably to most other gaming shops in Austin, while the selection and curation of games exceeds the others I've visited. As a parent of young children I don't have the time to devote to gaming that I used so I need table top gamers to help support this place so it still exists in about ten years or so when I can join a regular gaming night.

Very friendly staff, Chris greeted us when we came in and asked if we needed any help. For a smaller store, there was a great selection of games over a wide variety of mechanics. We stayed to play a game of Downforce and ended up buying it....for $31.99. Which is a great price at a FLGS. Chris said they are trying to be competitive with the internet and it looks like it. I told my wife just to go here to get my Christmas gifts :). There are a number of tables to play at and it was not too crowded for a Saturday afternoon. Will be back for sure.

I had great customer service from the folks at The Gaming Goat. I ordered a game to give as a Christmas present but there was an accident with the online ordering system. They put in a special rush order for me so I'd have it in time. They really went above and beyond during a busy, stressful time, and I super appreciate it. Plus, I appreciate that they are taking COVID safety seriously. I did no-contact curbside pickup, which was smooth and easy. I'll definitely be buying from them again!

Great shop, always have best prices for new and board games. Staff always happy to help you look for games, or try and get it in for you. I always try to stop and look if I'm in the area.

Customer service can ruin any business. You can have the finest cars, the best food, the latest clothes, and none of that will matter if you have terrible employees, and customers have a bad experience. They won't come back. Not this place! They have incredible employees! Due to that, no surprise, amazing customer service. Not only do they keep up with the latest games, and their prices are the best in town, but that's not what even matters here, what does matter is that they do their best to make sure you are happy. Long story short, I bought a game, it was missing a piece, they spent about six weeks trying to get it for me. They are excellent at responding to emails. When it finally arrived from the maker of the game, it was missing from a shredded envelope that the company had used to mail it. The Gaming Goat's, Roger, gave me his, out of his own game, and said he would replace his whenever it eventually arrived! Customer service 101. Three points from downtown, nothing but net! I spent over 20 years as a bar manager and it's this kind of thing that you never hear about from a customer. All anyone ever takes the time to do is complain, but I'm writing this to let people know that The Gaming Goat gets it, and this small gesture says volumes. Job well done Roger and staff, you guys rock! It was just a little, green dinosaur, but good service is becoming extinct. Thank you!

Good selection of games and at such a good price. They have games you can demo and tables to play at. When I came there were plenty of tables with open space. This is at a good location with lots of food (kura sushi, 99 ranch market, and 85 degree bakery) and drink places around. Will definitely be back.
