On the Grid : Tap Phong Trading Company

"Aside from being the go-to place for all cookware and restaurant needs in the downtown core, it also houses an endless bounty of cool “shit”. Between restaurant-grade dish ware, ceramics, kitchen utensils, storage containers, appliances and eastern inspired tchotchkes, Tap Phong has it all. On any given day the aisles are filled with an eclectic mix of individuals - whether it’s an executive chef from one of Toronto’s chichi restaurants, a bearded hipster from the local coffee shop down the street or a struggling art student looking for materials for their next project… they are all there for Tap Phong’s unique selection, cheap prices and arcane objects." - Jacknife

Tap Phong Trading isn't just a supplier; it's an absolute lifeline for anyone in the hospitality game! If you're outfitting a new kitchen, need a quick restock of essentials, or even just that one specific whisk that seems to vanish constantly, this is the place to be. They've got an incredible range – from the humblest forks and spoons all the way up to heavy-duty pots, pans, and blenders that can handle the busiest service. What truly sets Tap Phong apart, though, is the service. Lily is an absolute gem! It's like she has a photographic memory for faces and names – walking in and being greeted personally makes all the difference. She's always ready with a helpful suggestion and genuinely seems to care about getting you exactly what you need. And let's talk about the practical stuff: the prices are spot-on, and they consistently have what you're looking for in stock. That reliability is gold when you're running a tight ship. Whether you're popping in for a quick grab-and-go or planning a major kitchen overhaul, Tap Phong Trading makes the process smooth and stress-free. Highly, highly recommended!

This place has been here for decades on Spadina Ave. and I still love discovering surprising finds! I needed a small dish to put two condiments in and they had several options. Finally decided on this beautiful yin and yang style! The place is usually busy but we were lucky it was quiet on this Saturday morning. This place is a real Toronto treasure in Chinatown!

It’s disappointing to write this, especially knowing the legacy and history behind this business. As someone who deeply respects the challenges of running a family-owned business, I once admired this place and what it stood for. Unfortunately, my recent experience was disheartening. I visited with the intention of inquiring about pricing for supplies, as I’m in the early stages of building my own small business. Rather than being met with the openness and support you would expect from a community-driven shop, I was dismissed abruptly by the owner, who stated she was too busy helping “actual customers.” It felt as though I was being judged by appearance or familiarity, which goes against the values family-run businesses often promote — inclusion, community, and mutual support. Sadly, this interaction lacked the warmth and respect that small business owners should extend to one another, especially in a city where support and collaboration are key. If you’re a fellow small business owner starting out, I recommend visiting A1 Cash and Carry Express. Their pricing is competitive, and their team offers genuine and helpful service — something I found missing here.

Wide array of supplies. My baking instructor suggested this place for buying supplies, and I got everything I needed. I discovered on my last visit they have a section with just different sized cooking pots. I also saw clay pots and lots of tea sets.

Google
They have most of the kitchen tools I need, including wooden items. I can always find what I’m looking for here—it’s great! I previously bought a steamer, which was just the right size and worked well, but the only drawback was that the power cord didn’t meet Canadian standards. It was fitted with both Chinese and European cables, causing it to overheat and eventually burn out. I had to replace it myself, and now only one outlet works. This has been really frustrating because it’s a key tool for my business, and I can’t find anyone who really knows how to repair and replace it properly. Other than that, they’re a great supplier.

Google
This establishment and the family who run it are nothing short of amazing. Been going here for 12 years and the service has been amazing every time. They always have what you need and if not they will order it for you. Pricing is always fair. Last time I was there I purchased a lot of products in multiple boxes. I had to take it an Uber and one of the staff took it all to the curb for me, waited for my Uber even after one cancelled and helped me get everything in the car, with a smile. Please support this business.

Google
you'll find everything for your kitchen (or restaurant) there: glassware, dishes, bowl, pots, pans, cutlery, Tupperware, knives... and much more. lots of affordable items, right next to high end unique sushi sets. It is wholesale and retail so you can reconnect with your inner chef and imagine that you're stocking your new Michelin star restaurant, while you're shopping just for your kitchen. super cool place to visit and everybody will find something interesting there.

Google
I wanted to make rice in a clay pot with Chinese sausage at home. So, I set out to Tap Phong Trading Company and was not disappointed. They have every pot and pan made in China here. Very nice staff. I could hear Mandarin, Vietnamese, Cantonese, and English being spoken. Very knowledgeable.

Yelp
Basically, they have everything you could possibly need in your kitchen, from Vitamixes to bamboo steamers to eating and cooking utensils, dishes, glassware, etc. The aisles are on the narrow side, and the shelves are jam-packed. Ask for assistance from one of the many employees if there's something you can't reach on a shelf. Don't forget to show your George Brown College student ID card for a discount.

Yelp
If you love looking at kitchen stuff, you will enjoy it here. They have lots of kitchen supplies for homes and restaurants. They have Western items as well as Asian items. Want to make your own Bubble Waffles at home? They have you covered. Want to make your own Taiyaki? They have those machines too. Want a pot to make soup for 100 people? They have that too. I enjoy cooking and baking, but I don't like having to use specialty equipment. And I already have everything I need for my kitchen, so this place didn't interest me too much. However, my mom was on a mission to find molds to make her own Banh Khot (savoury mini Vietnamese pancakes) and she found them at Tap Phong. In fact, they had several different types for her to chose from. Yay! I'm hoping she'll invite me over when she makes some, lol ;) Service is not the nicest, but whatever. This store has been around for as long as I can remember. I think it's actually cleaned up a bit over the years. Worth checking out if you are looking for a specific kitchen item that you can't find elsewhere, or I guess if you like poking around kitchen supply stores.

Yelp
Need something super particular to make a very specific dish? They got it. Need a commercial size pot? They got it. Need beautiful plates? They have that too. Get lost in the narrow alleys surrounded by all the tools and gadgets for your culinary adventure. Been here for years they provide many culinary people in all the tools so they can start their own restaurant. Just come by and check it out. The staff is very helpful in helping you locate what you need. Shopping on amazon doesn't give you the same experience compared to shopping in real life. Many times I would purchase something online and when I recieved it I usually feel deceived by the quality control. Here you can see and feel. No more second guessing. Get exactly what you want!

Yelp
Tap Phong Trading Company has been around for years and in my opinion one of the best places to pick up both for home (plates, rice cookers, knives) and restaurants (massive stock pots, commercial grade taikoyaki makers, industrial grade slicers etc..)  No matter what your kitchen needs are they will most likely stock it and if they don't stock it, they most likely can get it for you. The store is packed and aisles are narrow.  Workers are constantly stocking the store so you need to squeeze past them at times. In this day of online shopping, I love coming here as I get to actually see and feel the product before I buy it.  Prices are super reasonable compared to online so for me it's a no brainer to come here to buy. Do note there is no refund for returns but you can exchange your items within 10 days. 4 out of 5 for an old school shopping experience!
google avatar

Gayan P.

Yelp
They have all the things you'll need for your kitchen. Even stuff for an industrial kitchen. We wanted a burner and a pot to do hotpot at home for Christmas and we found this place online (thank you internet). In the past you would have had to know someone that knew someone to discover a gold mine like this. So much stuff in this store. It's definitely a place that we've bookmarked for the future.

Yelp
If you ever see anything in a Asian/Chinese Restaurant that you think OMG so cute, I wish I have that at home! You will probably find it at Tap Phong Trading Company. It will take hours for me to browse through everything. And I know there will be something neat I would lke to buy everytime when I am here. (talking to myself, "I have anything I need! I don't need anything!") I think the quality and selections here is much better than dollar store and it is more fun shopping here because the experience is more unique. Will my cooking skill improve if I drop by here more often looking and touch every kitchenwares in the Tap Phong?

Yelp
You could get lost in this store. And that's a good thing! So, it's basically an open to the public restaurant supply store. They have bowls of all sizes and types, plates, cutlery, giant woks and utensils. I freaking love this place. When you get your stuff to the front of the cash, the guy there takes it for you and wraps it in newspaper so it won't break while the lady rings you up. Soup spoons for $0.99. GO!
google avatar

Anne M.

Yelp
No matter what you need to assist you in a kitchen, this place will dent your wallet because they have everything you could ever possibly want! I finally found the Cast Iron West Indian cooking pot that I've been searching for this last year!
google avatar

Janis C.

Yelp
Be careful before you leave the store that your charge is accurate and you have your products! They overcharged me and refused to fix it. I work for a large company we have brought thousands of dollars of business as a food manufacturer for trade shows but will not continue to purchase from them. I bought $250 on this one trip to their store and they refused to fix an error on their part for about $8. I am fine with the $8 my company was overcharged but it was the principle. They do not offer refunds and I found their professionalism very low.

Yelp
This store is everything! I recently opened new restaurant and needed a million things and kitchen stuff came through! I love this store and have bought so many essential things for my restaurant. All items have high quality That's quite reasonable The owner's really friendly and extremely helpful.

Yelp
I have been shopping at Tap Pong for almost 20 years. Good selection and many hard to find kitchen tools.

Yelp
My chef instructor in Geroge Brown recommends this store to us. So I went to this store right after my first class of Bakery Arts course, and omg, this store is a heaven for me. They have mostly everything I need for my courses, and more. I bought some other things for my home as well. Aisles are quite narrow, items on racks are quite messy... So I need time to "hunt" for my items, but it's definitely worth it. Quality wise may not the best, but they have pretty good deal for all kitchen stuff. They have some rare Chinese kitchen items too. Love this place!!!

Yelp
Allow me to quote from two prior reviews of Tap Phong: "The place is huge with lots of helpers if you need their assistance." "The service is stellar too" In related news: Donald Trump is a stable genius, the Conservative Party of Canada cares more for Canadian citizens than it does for Israel, USA and corporations and I am Sailor Moon in my alternate secret life... lol and now back to reality... Tap Phong is a good place to pick up a variety of Chinese and western kitchen items whether for home or for a restaurant. However, the service is non-existent. Write on this page anyone who has ever received a 'hello' or 'good-bye' or 'thank-you' from them. My best guess is that they do not even know how to say 'thanks.' The man at the cash is practically numb. Yes, I know it is Chinatown. The shop is crammed and is a good one-stop shop when looking for supplies; however, be advised that there is no service, it is crammed with the employees randomly knocking into you, blocking aisles (all it takes is one of their trollies), pushing you and the lighting is depressing. One more thing, which is important. Their prices are merely average. They do not have great pricing on anything. They just probably just have it! They actually remind me of Amazon. There are many things in stock here, but more recently if one compares the price of Amazon to the local store one notices that Amazon is actually more expensive or the same as a local shop! Then again, Amazon probably carries what one needs as does Tap Phong...

Yelp
Even with the pay parking, annoying dt traffic, I have become a fan of Tap Phong. I had enquired via email regarding fushia Chinese teacups and received a response very promptly. The place was huge...I think my mom or any house owner would love to browse around. The prices were excellent as well. They really had everything you'd need in the kitchen. Tap Phong also had a section for 'dead ppl'. The things you burn for the dead, etc. (it's a Chinese thing). I even found some mini Chinese teacups and thought omggggg how cute!!! But they are in the 'death' section... I guess it's meant for the ancesters and not drinking :) I was able to find a few Chinese teasets. They were SOOOO FRUGAL :D The best set was the gold & white dragon & phoenix ($26.99). The traditional fushia longevity set was $19.99 (good price but not that vibrant in colour). I ended up purchasing eight $ 1 fushia teacups for my Chinese tea ceremony. Hoping my bms will break these instead of my real set if they happen to be rushing about. Can't get over how they are only $ 1. The cheapest I found uptown was $ 1.99. I will definitely come back here again !

Yelp
Let's throw it back a decade. I'd been in Toronto a couple of years, I have my first shitty apartments with best buddies and boring ex boyfriends. I was no longer a child, but definitely constantly realizing I didn't have basic adult things. Enter Tap Phong. I was always hitting up Tap Phong, and the love affair continues. In fact, I was here just last week buying things in bulk for a party. This place is a dream for any sort of thing you can imagine for your household needs, namely kitchen goodness, but they have pretty much everything. Think Chinese Dollarama that also happens to have decent deals on cuisinarts.
google avatar

Yelp
BOTTOM LINE: The greatest selection of kitchen/dinner-ware at the cheapest prices in town - this should be your first stop for any purchase. As long as you can brave the labyrinth of Tap Phong's narrow aisles packed from floor to ceiling and don't mind hunting around a bit, this place has got it all! And after coming here a few times, I'm coming to realize that there is some sort of method to their madness of product sorting. Pans, pots, blenders, measuring cups, pastry accessories, knives, bowls, glasses...basically any mainstream or obscure item you need for your kitchen can be found here. Looking specifically for a stainless steel spatula with a wooden handle? They have 5 different models and sizes of 'em! Want a cast-iron pan but not pay the ridiculous prices of The Bay or Williams Sonoma? Done for $30! The list goes on and on...The only thing I would say is if you're looking for really nice kitchen knives, you may want to go to Knife (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/knife-toronto) instead.

Yelp
I've been shopping at Tap Phong for ages. The large store is located in Chinatown near Kensington market. They have pretty much all the kitchen supplies you need for your kitchen or if you own a business. They have beautiful dishes, containers, strainers, chopping boards, rice cookers, utensils, knives...you name it, they will likely have it. I even got beautiful Chinese ceramic vases from the store. The place is huge with lots of helpers if you need their assistance. Going through the aisles is tight with tons of customers walking through. My latest purchases included stainless steel roasting pans, sheet pans and lasagne pans which are tough to find in the city. I went to Kitchen Stuff Plus and other stores first before venturing off to Tap Phong. It should have been my first stop. Prices were reasonable for the items I bought.

Yelp
On Spadina, in the Chinatown area, you will find this shop. Very much designed like many shops, packed full of stuff! That being said, this is one of the bigger stores in the area. It has a rhyme and reason to the placement of things. I swear, you will figure it out! The only thing is the time it will take you to look through everything. Fortunately, I love this! It feels like a restaurant supply store. Whatever you would need to set your table or start a restaurant - even the plastic trays from cafeterias you can buy here. Not only only in various colours but sizes too! There's a section of bamboo, wicker this and that as well as colourful tea sets. Prices are incredibly cheap! The selection from modern to campy to Asian is unbeatable. Even if you aren't in the mood for buying these items - just checking it out is an adventure!

Yelp
TP has been part of the furniture in Chinatown for decades and continues to be the warehouse for both residents and restaurateurs in the area carrying all the goods for cooking with some must-have hardware kicking around for good measure. The service is stellar too, even if your native tongue is only English. Need a soy sauce jar like I did recently? You have many to choose from. In fact I liked the one I was using at the noodle house nearby and sure enough, there it was on the shelf for under $3. Need a commercial deep fryer? They have that too. Plus an interesting array of Japanese knives at the til. I like looking at the electric kitchen appliances they stock. Cool stuff, like a $1500 blender and brands that I didn't realize even made the appliances they had there. The impression I get is that they stock these particular items because they work well and do the job, not because of some contractual obligation to carry them. It's a fun place to window shop, although the aisles are narrow, as you can spot most of the items seen in nearby restaurants. I bought my cast iron wok at TP decades ago and it still is my fav. Tap my Phong anytime TP!!
google avatar

Michaela S.

Yelp
If Tap Phong does not have it, you don't need it!!! Went for some restaurant steam table pans and literally walked the store isle by isle. Fascinating place, the selection is amazing. There was so much interesting stuff, not just for a restaurant but also for a personal kitchen. I really recommend Tap Phong, especially if you are just starting out and need pretty much everything.
google avatar

Yelp
Technically they are NOT a retail store so stop expecting hand on foot service. They are a Wholesaler, Retail Housewares, Hardware, Gifts & Restaurant equipment supplier, who just happens to be opened to the general public. The workers are most likely stock people and not salesman like one reviewer mistakenly thought. Shelves are jammed packed with hard to find stuff we sometimes have to dig ourselves to get a whole set. Example: I purchased an 18/10 stainless steel 40 pc cutlery set in a wooden display box from Sears. Their version of the table spoon was a joke at best so I went to Tap Phong to look for larger alternative. I didn't find table spoons, but I did find something even better. Soup spoons which matched the pattern and weight exactly as if they were part of the original set. I had to rummage through a large bin of, "Assorted" cutlery to find 8 spoons to fit my 40 pc - 8 person set. I own a small butane camping stove which is popular for some Asian dishes (Hot Pot) and very useful during that power outage we had 2 years ago. Normally I can get the fuel canisters from Canadian Tire at 4 for $10, but at Tap Phong I pick them up 5 for $4. Bottom line if you want sturdy restaurant quality wares, this is the place to go. Staff are mainly stock people there to restock shelves. They are not there to answer product questions. They may know if stock is in stock or when will they be ordering more, but that is the limit of their knowledge. Generally people who come shop there are restaurant and business owners who KNOW what they are shopping for. The cashiers are a bit more helpful but don't expect them all to speak English at all.
google avatar

Jim B.

Yelp
I had heard so much about this place that I guess it was over-hyped and impossible to live up to expectations. Claustrophobic (narrow aisles that are at least 7' tall) filled to the rafters. Great selection of items for the kitchen, but I found it overpriced for the quality...except for the chef grade pots/pans. Despite making a special trip to bring out of town company here, we all left empty handed, despite going in to buy.

RajaRanjit S.

Yelp
I don't know why people flock here thinking they've found the best most cost efficient kitchen supply store. How wrong could they be to shop in a filthy crammed environment with limited selection . NORFINCH DRIVE IN TORONTO has the 2 best kitchen supply stores probably in Canada . Go there people...you will thank me later.
google avatar

Sushil S.

Yelp
I would have given negative stars if possible for the rudeness of employees and the space is stocked like a flea market but prices are of as a well maintained designer shop. Went for buying cookware for my new home, and despite of their high prices I managed to find few pots that I like, but have to leave it at the rude behaviour of workers at shop. Please don't go here if you don't want to ruin your day.
google avatar

Ruby A.

Yelp
I've been to this place a few times and you can totally get lost and spend more time than you expect. Prices are cheaper than any other restaurant equipment store. The customer service is awful though. Seems the staff are a lot MORE friendly to Caucasians than Asians (weird!!!).
google avatar

Zebra C.

Yelp
I just moved to Toronto and I'd been scrambling for bits and pieces for the kitchen, racing against the clock, and trying to procure enough tableware for a tapas shindig I was throwing for 13 people. Luckily, I came across Tap Phong in Chinatown which carries EVERYTHING I needed--at prices that won't send me to the welfare line. Cheap wine glasses? Check. Little tapas plates? Check. Nifty bamboo picks, deep-frying thermometer, parchment paper...check, check, and check. The store shelves are crammed with kitchen essentials and random WTF gadgets but if you're patient enough to browse around, you'll be rewarded with some good bargains.
google avatar

Clarissa S.

Yelp
This is a veritable Disneyland for people who love useless crap like I do. I made the mistake of walking in here one day, thinking that it was just another multi-purpose Dollarama-esque store, but boy was I wrong. This place literally has everything one would want for their kitchen or restaurant, and a whole lot of what you don't need, but will probably buy anyway. I mean, do you really need a package of 100 appetizer picks hand cut into your choice of little umbrellas, seahorses or violins for $2.99? Of course you don't, but you know what? That shit is hella cute, so into your basket they go. Truth is, I can spend hours in here filing through everything they have. Given the chance, I would absolutely love to spend a night in here and probably could by setting up a bed in the gargantuan 100 serving wok in the corner of the store (which by the by is available at the low, low price of $179 in case anyone is interested) Best. Place. Ever.
google avatar

Ryan L.

Yelp
kitchen heaven? you betchya! this place is literally as good as it gets. with something for everyone, no matter the level of skill for someone in the kitchen. i remember one time looking for black plastic chopsticks, and i found them here. this place is a bit of a maze, with the shelves and product going from the floor to the ceiling, a mountain of goodies for everyone with the highest quality possible. if you need something for the kitchen, go here rather then kitchen stuff plus, or wal-mart. one of my highest recommendations
google avatar

Lauren M.

Yelp
Tap Phong is the Chinese version of Kitchen Stuff Plus. Wide range of product quality here ranging from Paderno to Dollarama. Fun things you will find: *Plastic fruit and plastic loaves of bread (don't be fooled!) *Bamboo steamers in 8,000 sizes *GIANT woks big enough to stir-fry an entire cow *Ceramic Buddhas *Serving platters shaped like frogs Very reasonable prices for the most part. It's kind of cluttered and hard to navigate, but this is highly surprisingly for a shop on Spadina Street. You can stock your own kitchen or open your own dumpling house...the choice is yours.

Yelp
Love this place, this bring all of the stereotypes about shopping in a Asian warehouse to mind an I absolutely love that! Got an 8' chef knife(global) for my girlfriend and she absolutely loved it almost got her the 6 but luckily the lady at the counter knew that bigger was better. The prices are great as the knife came to be cheaper than many other places I had checked out online and the store itself is just a plethora of everyday cooking/eating supplies that I wish I could take home with. If you know anyone clumsy people, this is definitely not the place to take them on the other hand if you are looking to replace any tools of your kitchen short of a complete Reno I highly suggest checking this place out!
google avatar

Derek L.

Yelp
This place is actually a Kitchen heavy for all cooks. They sell a variety of different items, from piping bags, knives and plates to industrial sized stand mixers and deep fryers. Everything is at an affordable price and you'll likely find anything you need here. Forewarning for all home chefs, its almost impossible to not buy anything you in this store!

Yelp
IF I ever open a family run ASIAN restaurant, this is where I will stock up on kitchen equipment and supplies. I went in here with a specific MISSION and was not disappointed. It did take a couple LAPS to find exactly what I wanted instead of going with a secondary option when I thought it wasn't available. I had lots of TIME which meant 'Kid in a Candy Store' shopping happiness. I started to imagine how I would use each and every item in the shop. At some time I even did more laps to DISCOVER things I normally don't find from places such as Kitchen Stuff Plus or Home Outfitters. It's in a great area of town too nearby both China Town and Kensington Market where you can get inspirations before or after. Make sure you look over and CHECK everything you buy as not all items stocked are in PERFECT condition or quality and secondly, ALL SALE ARE FINAL & NO REFUND as stated on the receipt.

Yelp
Tap Phong = Organized Chaos... and I totally get it! One stop shop for cooking and dining supplies (and some bath) if you're hosting a party, moved to a new place or have a chinese restaurant... Or if you just want to throw away everything you have then replace them with the cool stuff you see at Tap Phong. They pretty inexpensive. Don't forget to look up, especially in the take away container aisle... They 'catalogue' all the containers they sell on the top shelf. Best finds: Umbra adjustable (tension) curtain rod Plastic 2oz take away sauce containers with lids Mini dessert spoons Skewers... The nice sturdy kind The aisles are tight and the shelves are full to the brim. It looks chaotic, but they're categorized or just ask someone for help. If you have time to spare, check out each aisle and every display, that can take a few hours.

Yelp
Really this is one of Toronto's best kept secrets, but not so secret anymore. Those in the restaurant industry know this is the place to get your plate ware, flat ware glassware and cutlery. And you probably end up picking up stuff for home. You find everything here. It's actually funny because once you start going here, you start to be able to identify which restaurants shop there as well....which turns out is majority of the restaurants downtown.

Yelp
After getting a cooking class as a gift certificate at a local trade school I was expecting my reasonable cooking gadgets repertoire to carry me through some of the sessions. Yet some things are not meant to be (like the gifts that require one to spend $$$ before they keep on giving :) after the first session I was on the look out for a whole bunch of items. I went through some main stream stores yet some of the items I had to purchase are for professionals so they required a store that sold items that are for pros. Interestingly the college itself recommends this store. This is by no means a glamorous store and its actually quite hard to navigate (I am surprised they pass the safety inspections) but boy they carry the everything including the kitchen sink (pun intended) Prices for some items are good while the brand name items being in the same price range as other stores. The staff is not very helpful and you have to really press them for info. If you don't know what you are looking for you can spend a lot of time here to get the right item. There seems to be a method to the madness as after spending half an hour or so I kind of figured out how this place is organised, yet I will be at a complete loss if I wanted a very specific item without any assistance. The low cost items need to be checked thoroughly as they might fail even before you leave the store. However the cost/performance proposition makes it a place if you are looking for kitchen gear and don't want to spend a fortune.

Yelp
It's like a flea market threw up all the dishware you'd find in a Chinese restaurant. Everywhere you look, floor to ceiling, there's stuff. Lots of...stuff! Glassware, pots, gadgets galore... plastic bowls that I recognize from every ghetto asian noodle house I've ever been to (you know those bowls with that red pattern with the mini swirls). This place has everything you need for a kitchen at reasonable prices. The selection of unboxed dishware is extensive. Plain drinking glasses, latte glasses, shot glasses, tea cups, coffee cups, etc. you get the idea. If you break something, you can always come back and buy a replacement cup! A bonus for clumsy people like me! Note#1: Don't expect a lot of help if you have questions. The staff speak limited English. You might not get too far with words like "ramekin" or even "spatula". But they will do their best to help you. Note#2: Don't get in the way of old Chinese people shopping. Grunting is acceptable instead of "Excuse me". Pushing and shoving is just another way of saying "Sorry, I need to pass." Also, if you are one of those shoppers who has a kid that you push around in a giant stroller, do everyone a favor...find a babysitter. This isn't the place to take them. There are breakable bits everywhere and narrow lanes. Don't take this the wrong way but...your baby isn't cute, you aren't cute, don't get in the way of people who need to get errands done. Anyways, it's fun to wander down each aisle and find kitchen treasures. Next time you need kitchen-anything, come here! :)

Yelp
You may not be a professional chef but you sure as hell can stock your kitchen like one! You can purchase your cooking supplies here for a portion of the price you might find elsewhere. This place has so many restaurant supplies and I hear a lot of students from George Brown swing by to purchase equipment for much cheaper than their school offers. On top of that, a 10% discount! I purchased some items here for about $50 and it would cost me about $70 in Ottawa. Honestly I could spend all day in here browsing for things I need for my kitchen but that would be way to much fun and would kill my day. I'll be back to purchase more things in the future. I hope I don't look like one of those middle aged dudes that wear under armour everywhere who obviously don't do any exercise but with kitchen stuff of course :(

Yelp
Love this place. It has such a wide variety of housewares from dishes to tupperware to rice cookers. They offer good selection at mid-range prices. This is a family run place where you can find countless kitchenwares.

Yelp
Throwing party or moving into a new apartment? Tap phong is a good place to start - you can get all kinds of kitchen related things here. When I used to be in the restaurant business - we would get a lot of different things from here. Decent prices and great variety of different kitchen items. If you are looking for sushi serving plates, pots, sushi knives, or nice chopsticks - this is a place to go.

Yelp
If you want to buy inexpensive products, it is the right place, not high quality but do not expect customer service from Tap Phong or any store in China Town . I summarize the customer service there as " give me your money and get the hell out of here asap" ::)) I was there to buy Chef's knife, which was behind the cashier who had a lineup. There was a staff walking around , i asked him to help me rather than me waiting , the manager/owner who was there did not let him , he said just wait till she has time which I did. I wanted to see what type of knives they had and was asking questions, she got impatient and just wanted to get over it..and she was getting frustrated with rude mannerism, but again it is China town don't expect any better :) ..

Yelp
My teacher at George Brown culinary school recommended this store instead of buying supplies from the bookstore. They have everything you need in a kitchen; especially good for if you need to buy in bulk (restaurants or stores). As a plus, they don't charge tax if you pay in cash...

Yelp
I have been shopping here for years because they offer a wide variety of kitchen supplies at reasonable prices. Most of the stuff is not the highest quality, and if you really hunt you can find better prices on some items, but they have such a large selection and supply of stuff for the kitchen it is just so easy to find whatever you need here in one shop. The focus is on Chinese cooking and serving supplies, but there is plenty more here. Beware, it's really easy to get carried away when you see everything here and the affordable prices!

Yelp
It's a great place. They have everything imaginable for your cooking needs. Prices are very reasonable. That's a great thing because it makes your cooking adventure feasible. If you love to cook, you can have some serious fun just browsing around in the store. Staffs are efficient and helpful too.

Yelp
I am super impressed at the amount of things this place has. True to its name it sells wholesale and to individuals... the aisles are a bit tight due to the amount of stuff this place has on offer -- but seriously most things are a great deal. I got a great rice cooker, the man helping me was knowledgeable...suggested different types and what exactly I wanted the rice cooker for other than to cook rice if you can believe. I walked out a happy camper. Though before leaving, the cashier was super knowledgeable about her knives and was saying which one was better -- the one from Japan or the one from Germany. Super helpful employees!

Yelp
OK, this place hase everything you could possibly want for kitchen supply. I'm only knocking it because some weird woman who was stocking the shelves ended up staking us around the store. Weird woman.

Yelp
Rip off !!!! I just bought a mini gas stove here for $18.99 and pack of 4 gas bottles at $5.99 + tax. Found out that the price was cheaper at grocery store (Hua Shang Market) when I pick up my grocery wright after that . The market sell exactly same stove, same brand at $15.99 & 4 gas bottles pack at $4.99. Price wise this's not the place.

Yelp
I've been going to Tap Phong personally and professionally for years. It's a gem in the city. My favorite two purchases however are my bamboo cutting board and Chinese cleavers, cheap and highly functional. I rarely reach for my Global or Henkel knives anymore.

Yelp
I love this place, its like Kitchen Plus on steroids. I've been coming here for years! The service is great if you can speak "chinglish", they are so helpful. The staff even helped me scan the entire store for my lost glove (and we found it:)). This store has everything you can imagine for the kitchen and food preparation and more. This place is great if you are having a theme party and need some fancy toothpicks, skewers, disposable place settings or restaurant supply for the industrial look. I think my friend James could appreciate this place. He would like the industrial edge this place can have if you look through all the stuff. WARNING! Don't come here if you are in a hurry. Every time I come here to pick something up, two hours later I'm still in the store. I always come out with more than I intended. Today I purchased 3 scoopers for my nut jars and a squirt bottle on impulse. When you leave the store you will have a mental list of all the things you saw and wanted to buy but didn't in an attempt of self control. Until next time... :)

Yelp
A crowded kitchen supply store in Chinatown that stocks a wide range of traditional and Asian style dinnerware and kitchen goods. Both professional grade products and products intended for home use. Prices and quality vary from inexpensive basics to the top of the line knives and pots they sell at Williams Sonoma, but for a lot less. This place seems to be a favorite of chefs in Toronto and students at culinary school. Staff is very busy but helpful.
