Best Carne Asada Fries! End of debate. We have been searching for years and each time we come here they take the crown! The people there are such great folks as well. Check them out!

Go for the food and the people. Drive slowly as it's easy to miss. In an ocean of tacos, burritos, chips, and salsa, this place rises like some mythical island where flavor goes to retire in luxury. It is tops, genuinely, delightfully tops. Easy to miss from the outside, almost as if it prefers to keep its miracles tucked just slightly out of sight. The kind of excellent that makes you wonder if the guacamole has been whispering ancient secrets to the tortillas. Prices are awesome too, almost suspiciously so, as if the cosmos briefly forgot to charge full rent for joy.

Carne asada fries are GARBAGE. Watery Beans and Nacho cheese in addition to the shredded cheese, guac and cream? A pile of mush. Of course they don’t say that on the menu and when I drove back, clearly dissatisfied, they charged me again. DO NOT believe the meat puppets saying they are good, they are the absolute worst and I’m not exaggerating. You want top shelf fries go to pancho’s authentic.

Came across this place before a soccer game in Alpine. Great breakfast burritos nothing crazy, just simple. Egg, ham, cheese ( we added beans) and were very delicious. Their salsas were 🔥. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. This will be out go to grab and go in Alpine for sure! Seating is limited inside but they have plenty outside Seating and plenty of parking. We'll be back!

Food was tasty and fast! The chicken was very good. Forgot to put guacamole on one order of tacos but made up for it for sure. They don't have chucky guacamole its pretty smooth like a saucethan a dip. We stopped there passing through headed back to San Diego. Taco shells a tad greesy but GREAT portions.

Perfect taco stand stop in cute Alpine. Affordable, great taste, very friendly, staff & clean restroom. We travel often with dogs and they had a wonderful outdoor patio. It’s not your typical sit down and get served, we prefer this type of order & find a seat!!

The food was delicious, everyone loved what they got. A huge shout out to the cashier that helped me order. He was fielding phone calls and walk in order pickups, and took the time to help me build two vegan meals for some people in our group. I highly recommend the potato tacos plus guac for your meat free friends. The salsa bar was freshly stocked when I came in, careful with the orange, a little goes a long way and it has a slow burn. This place is on the smaller side and fills up fast. We didn't stay and eat, we rolled a few doors up the street and enjoyed our lunch in the back of McIlhenney's at their patio tables.

I wish I could transport this Mexican spot to San Diego. The prices are fantastic, portions are huge, and it tastes pretty good too. My husband got shredded beef hard shell tacos and each one was quite a bit larger than I was expecting. He said it was delicious. My fajitas plate was $12 and it was a massive plate of food complete with refried beans, rice, sour cream, guacamole, and 4 corn tortillas. The refried beans really stood out as some of the best I've had. We were super satisfied with our meal. There aren't too many seats on the inside, but the patio is large and nice.

Alllways a reliable spot if I'm passing through alpine. I love a good hole in the wall food spot. Their customer service is top notch. Their prices are unmatched. Wait time is low. And most importantly, the food tastes GREAT. Every breakfast burrito I get from here is 5 stars. Make sure you grab all their salsa's before you go! If they're making these by hand then OMG I need them to bottle it and sell it. Every one of them are great. And they have pickled veggies, a delicacy I don't always find at other taco shops. Check them out for sure!

Some good street parking. Located in the center of Alpine. The food is great and the staff is super friendly. Seems like this is the best taco shop in Alpine and the locals know it. Inside they had a few seats and a small bathroom. They even have a small TV for the Padre games. Great spot to get some tacos or even one of their daily specials. Can't wait to go back.

This is the Mexican food place to go to if you're looking for something good a$$ Mexican good. I always call in my order and it's read in 5-10mins. This guys are fast with no BS. Prices are reasonable and the food is great. Try the surf and turf burrito. It's the best!

First time here and we're happy. The carne asada nachos have nacho cheese on them. Yum. Very friendly and fast service. The salsa bar had 5 choices and carrots. The complimentary chips were hot and fresh. Bean and cheese burrito was $5. The covered patio was great and they gave us water for the pups.

Yesterday, while out in the Campo area with friends, I was starving and looking for a place to eat. My friend suggested Tapatio's in Alpine, and though a surf and turf burrito in the desert sounded odd, it was one of the best I've ever had. My friends loved their dishes too, and I highly recommend stopping by Tapatio's if you're in the area or heading east. I don't have photos, but trust me, you'll love it! If you're out east county San Diego look no further than Tapatio's for good Mexican food.

Sorry other local taco places but Tapatios just advanced to best Alpine taco stand! The salsas were outstanding and frankly the highlight. Prices are totally reasonable, preparation was lightening fast, and service was friendly without being forced. We ate chips and salsa provided while waiting in the small dining room with three tables. Steak burrito and fish tacos were the best entrees of the variety we tested. We will be back for sure.

This is Mexican food you wish your mama made! The tamales no joke! The flavors are big and bold; the sauce has that special something that I can't quite put my finger on - maybe abuela's love? All I can tell you is that the last time I had tamales this delicious, they were made, not only by my almost Mexican grandma but also a successful restaurant owner and chef. I take tamales very personally, and these went straight to my heart. The burritos ate big-time and scrumptious, too, according to my mom (grilled chicken) and husband (carne asada). "Have you seen the size of this burrito?" My mom was shocked, and they were just as big in flavor. One more observation - the refried beans are fire! Even reheated the following and the next day, they taste as if they were freshly made. I've been back just to get them! There are self-serve chips and salsa bar; these are great before, during, and after your meal (leftovers). The building is small, just like any good mom-and-pop shop, and it's next door to a motel. So, if you're not looking closely, you might miss it. There's picnic-type seating outside and a few tables inside. And yes, there is disabled parking in front of the building without stairs. This is a definite must stop, whether you're a local or just visiting. Enjoy!

Amazing food since reopen. My kids enjoy everything on menu very authentic and good portion/price. I was very impressed with the chilaquiles rancheros. Wasn't too spicy and the sauté onions and diced ham was unique. Love it. Only wish the had more agua fresca options.

Driving home to SD from AZ and made a stop here for lunch based on a quick Yelp search. So glad we did! Best Mexican food we've had in a long time. The beef tacos were filled with flavorful, juicy machaca and the lettuce and cheese were so fresh. Rolled beef tacos were also juicy and the guac was fresh and delicious. The California burrito was HUGE (I only ate half) filled with plenty of beef and fries. Also the tortilla was soft and fresh. They offer a nice variety of salsas, spicy carrots and tortilla chips. We dined in and the AC in the small dining area kept it nice and cool. We'll def be back when driving through!

The new king of the mountain region of San Diego is without question Tapatio! I've been to all taco shops from Descanso to alpine, this one stands out with great food amazing pricing and a clean facility! The staff is very nice and efficient! The salsa bar is small but all of the options are great and I will definitely be coming here for now on! My lunch was $12 and honestly no one else can compete! It was filling and tasted amazing! It was the carne asada and rolled taco combo! Just try it!

Pictures are deceiving. Thought the burrito was going to be bigger than half a lime. Foods good but not worth the small portions. Would rather go to rosaritos in lakeside.

This was our first time here. Fast service, good prices. We ordered a cali burrito, asada fries, & a side of beans. The beans were so delicious and definitely home made. The carne asada was good. The salsa selection was awesome, although they were a little bit sweet for me they did not lack heat + flavor. Would recommend for a quick bite. Would return back.

Never thought I'd be driving out to Alpine for a Mexican food fix but here we are. And am I glad we did. Serving size is hefty AND the prices are affordable. Great bang for your buck. They have a self serve tortilla chip, salsa, and condiments station. Their tacos and burritos are all solid.

Just moved out to Alpine from clairemont and was worried about finding a decent taco shop but this place is amazing. Been here a week and have already had this place 3/4 times. Chile Relleno is bomb and this is the first place ive had in a while where the cheese inside the enchiladas is actually melted all the way.

I love Tapatio's so much. I'm pregnant and I CRAVE their food. I honestly eat here 4-5x a week. My favorite (and my husband's favorite) is the California burritos. We love them. Every ingredient is fresh, flavorful, and well prepared. They really put love in their food and you can taste it. Literally every dish we have tried from the burritos, enchiladas, rolled tacos, rellenos, taco salad, carne fries, are top tier. I'd drive a good distance to get here for both the food and the service if i wasn't local. It is really THAT good. Even the small touches like the salsas and hot carrots are to die for. I can 150% guarantee anything you order here will be fresh and will taste delicious. They also take to go orders over the phone which is a nice touch. We have friends that come all the way from boulevard and from downtown to eat here too. Can't recommend this place enough!

They have some of the best to take out Mexican food In Alpine and most of San Diego County... They have very good tacos, beef tacos, carne Asada tacos, Carnitas tacos tostadas enchiladas you name it. there's only one thing I really don't like about this Mexican restaurant... And that's their red taco sauce is sooo hot. I can't even handle it. And I like hot sauce. the flavor is great, but it's just way too hot to handle Years ago, it didn't used to be that way. I don't know what happened. But it's just the one thing I really don't like

We recently ordered food from Tapatillos for a party of 60 people. It was amazing! Everyone at the party kept asking where we got the food. Our order was for carne and pollo asada and all the sides and fixings. Let me tell you we were more than impressed with the quality and quantity of food we received. Besides the carne and pollo we got the best rice, beans, pico de gallo, salsa, guacamole, and tortillas. This is our go to place from now on. Pretty sure a lot of our guests will also be ordering from here. Huge thanks to everyone at Tapatillo's!!

Don't get me wrong I love tapitios but I feel as if their portions are becoming off. Here is two carne asada plates with one being more than the other. I pay $11.50 each. Normally I get a lot but seems as if the portions are getting smaller.

I love this place and am SO GLAD THEY ARE BACK after the fire!!! You have been missed TAPATIOS!!! I love being able to walk here with my dogs and get some breakfast, lunch or dinner for my son and I. The food is so good and the portions are generous and fresh! Pricing is pretty appropriate! Carlos is always friendly and shares a good conversation whenever we come in. I live the cooks and the beautiful outdoor covered patio! TAPS IS LEGIT CONSISTENTLY FRESH AND DELICIOUS MEXICAN FOOD IN ALPINE with always friendly service.!!!

Very good Mexican food!! Salsa was so good!!! Plus they have free chips which is always a big bonus to go with your meal.

Some of the best carne asada around. Always my go to, snag a burrito to go and enjoy it with a pint next door at Mcilhenney Brewing.

I love tapitios, been going there for years. I moved to Denver and came back to visit. I bought their beef tacos last week, which I always get. It had me running through my ass so bad. I looked like harry in dumb and dumber all week...24/7. Please do your jobs and wash your hands or make sure the food doesn't get cross contaminated. Whatever it is, you guys need to do better.

I'm telling all yall right know, best Mexican food ever idk how many times I said this food is good to my wife prob about 50 times she even told me to shut up 1-10 place gets a 100 coming back here for now on

THE BEST Shredded Beef tacos... EVER! It's a sleeper order for most, as it's not a very commonly ordered dish, but I'm telling you, step outside of your normal Cali Burrito, CarneAsada Fries, Quesadilla... and try these.

Very good! I came here after multiple people said it was good... And it was excellent! Carne asada burrito was tasty, with good meat (no gristle on the meat).

Little mom and pop style taco shop, any different items to choose from, from their menu. They have a small chip bar complimentary. There is minimal Seating inside and a larger patio with more seating for larger groups of people. There is a small restroom Hidden on the left in the dinning area inside. There have several different specials to choose from with actually great prices. If your in the Alpine area and craving some Mexican cuisine I highly recommend coming here for Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner.

Ordered take out Got home and order was not even close to what we ordered. We ate it and it was horrible We threw it all away Never will go back

Don't even live here anymore but I just got nostalgic for the best burrito I've ever had in my life and had to leave a review. The California burrito is unbeatable. Anytime I am back in town I have to go back.

Food was delicious. Service was quick.. This place is delicious. The chicken tacos are delicious and the fresh salsa is impressive. It deserves a great Yelp review! If you're ever in the Alpine area, stop by - it won't disappoint! Look for Carlos and staff they take good care of you.

So yummy! The shredded beef here is soooo good. My daughter and I share the taco salad with shredded beef and it's amazing. Highly recommend.

Best thing to happen to Alpine was when they were able to re-open. The salsa bar alone, makes the trip worth while. I ALWAYS, grab as many carrots out of there as I possibly can, yet TRYING to leave more for the next person!

Slow and not very authentic inside smells like dirty feet. Food isn't anything special pretty generic and overpriced

Ordered the Campachena and two cheese enchiladas à la cart. The cheese enchiladas were good nice size, flavor, and a lot of beautiful, lettuce and pico de gallo garnish. The Campachena not so much. A large Styrofoam container had about 10 medium size shrimp, and a small handful of super chewy, overdone minced octopus. The flavor of the cocktail and garnishes were good, but so stingy on the seafood. They have good salsas and chips that you can snack on while you're there, but they won't give you a to go bag for them.

Saw this on Yelp while in the area, it's a little hole in the wall side of the road taco shop. Service was friendly & efficient. The place seems to stay steadily busy. We stopped in at lunch time. I had chicken taquitos that were decent & obviously handmade but needed some salt in the chicken & they were too fried for my taste. My husband really enjoyed his tacos & torta with carne asada. While in the area, I would stop in again & try something else.
