My whole experience was a 15/10 I sat outside with my dog and the waiter greeted us and my pup with water right away. The staff was all so attentive and so nice. I had an appetizer, a torta, a cocktail and dessert. Every single item ordered was PHENOMENAL. I will be coming back regularly.

I loved this place, very cozy and the employees are super friendly and attentive if you need anything. Something that for me is a plus is that the owner approached each table to verify that everything is fine and welcome each customer. But let's talk about the food: Authentic tacos with excellent flavor, a variety of tacos to choose from. On this visit we tried almost everything on the tacos menu to mention a few: Birra tacos, Pork Shoulder, Al Pastor, Skirt Steak, Fish, Shrimp, Tinga, Rajas Poblana and we did not try any more for a next visit because I will definitely return. The menu has different dishes to choose, but not only food, they have the cocktail menu (ufff) you won't want to leave this restaurant. We ordered the frozen margaritas that you can order in different flavors and on this visit we tried the passion fruit (recommended). Before leaving we ordered some churros for dessert with vanilla ice cream that was the cherry on top.

I ordered Take Out and they definitely got a TIP for this yummy food. Very satisfying, but I get the feeling the are overcharging as the menu prices have INCREASED recently. Good food is NOT cheap!

The drinks, the food, and the vibe of this place are great. Something about it just feels cool, and the margaritas were perfect. Only criticism here: it would be nice to have something to put the sauces on, we got the chips and 3 sauces and there’s no space really to put them in so you can dip instead of pouring them on each chip. On the other hand, prices feel high for the food portions and the service wasn’t the best. No one ever came to refill water, had to ask twice till someone came and did it.

The food was so amazing we also got a chicken burrito and rice and beans which was so flavorful but the corn omg this corn is to die for it was so well seasoned and juicy me and my girls loved it

Small neighborhood favorite, delicious tacos and a few sides. Funky fun decor pays homage to the 1986 World Cup soccer championship. Very authentic taste, not Tex Mex which so much NYC Mexican can be. Service is quick, even after a group of 30 jiggers ran in after their race! Try the al pastor and chicken rings tacos. Delicious elote on the cob too. Loved our key lime cheesecake dessert.

i ordered their al pastor tacos (marinated pork, pineapple, onions and cilantro on top) as well as their cholula tacos (shredded chicken marinated in chipotle tomato sauce with onions, cilantro, and mexican cream with fresh cheese on top). the flavors were authentic and the tacos were a delight to eat. i simply couldn’t get enough— each bite was so flavorful. between the two, i liked the al pastor tacos better as i felt they had really nailed the marinade (which pairs so perfectly with the pineapple). i will definitely be back to try their birria tacos!

Hidden off of Broadway on 94th, this taqueria is absolutely delicious. All the margaritas we tried were very good (they have many flavors) and the fish tacos were at another level. We will definitely be coming back here. This is the top taco spot I have tried on the Upper West Side.

Haven't yelped for awhile, but the service for this place is top top notch (yes I meant to say top twice). They have a little bar as well. I had three beef tacos and a side of beans and rice. The tacos were very clean tasting (aka fresh high quality ingredients). The beans and rice were also top two I've ever had (I'm from Texas). Just clean clean ingredients cooked well and seasoned well, not too much, not too little. My only complaint would be the taco tortillas (corn). They were a bit thick for me (still dang good though), but I don't know how one would really improve it (normal thickness isn't quite better either).

This place was amazing if you are around and craving Mexican food , this is the place to GO. Trust me ,it has a homemade taste . Coming from Los Angeles this place felt like home. The food and drinks were delicious. I had the Tinga tacos , chips and guacamole and a few Palomas The service was great . Leonel the owner was sooo nice and friendly. Thank you for making me feel like home! Definitely coming back.

One things for certain and 2 things for sure, is Javone knows a good Baja taco. That was my plan when deciding to come here. But upon further inspection I simply didn't like that guacamole does not for standard on a taco here. That's wack. So I opted for the shrimp burrito bowl. Now this bowl was good, I admit. But I did have my heart set on a fish taco . The other thing that I liked was I was with a big group and they were able to split the bill. The only reason I did that was because nobody wanted appetizers and I wanted guac and chips and I thought it would be unfair to ask them to pay for something I wasn't sharing with the table So kudos to them. The drink I had was so good. It was called a Margarita Tropical and it had cilantro in it which made it even tastier. The 20% group gratuity was already included and my bill came up to $63

On a cold early Sunday evening, I dropped into Taqueria 86 mostly because it was close, and it was too cold to go about exploring. Great choice. I was greeted and served by friendliness throughout. I had their Enmoladas - similar to enchiladas, but dressed with a chocolaty mole sauce instead of chili. 4 beautiful bundles of marinated steak cuts were fresh, tasty, and more than satisfying. Highly recommended. Will return!

--Location/Parking-- Located on the upper west side. Several blocks west of Central Park. There is a subway line a block or two away. Close and convenient. --Ambience-- Mexican restaurant vibe with its colorful wall and a fully stock bar on the left side of the room. This is a great place to come after work or for dinner. --Service/Staff-- The staff was courteous and didn't mind my big luggage I had on my back. They were quick and prompt in getting my order and I ordered everything they recommended on the menu. --Food/Products-- Fresh Jamaica drink was flavorful, and I couldn't get enough of it. I couldn't explain the flavor, but I order a 2nd round. I ordered several tacos and with it came three types of sauce. A green, red, and darker red from hot to mild. I personally did not think the hot was that hot, but all of the sauces were flavorful and not bitter in taste that would distract from the food. Based on the employee's recommendation I got the Birrea taco and shrimp taco, which came with a side of lime and radish. Authentic Mexican taco that made my mouth drool. I am so glad the staff recommended the Birrea taco, which I couldn't get enough of. --Capacity-- There were several seats along the left and right side of the wall. The center of the taqueria was empty, but it was during the afternoon, in between the lunch and dinner rush. There were plenty of seats and I feel the capacity could handle a large crowd during the dinner rush. --Overall-- If you love authentic Mexican food. You can tell the staff enjoys working there are samples the food quite often based on their recommendations and what meat was been prepared for the day. I am checking the box to come back to soon.

Got delivery from here, really delicious flavorful meal, got the chicken burrito and chorizo tacos. Also a side of guacamole which was very small for $4. Burrito was $18 and two tacos $10. Food was so good, but pretty pricey for small portions.

What a find this place is! Really great Mexican food in a stretch of Broadway that doesn't have a lot of good options. I went with a group of 4 last night and each of us was simply wowed by the quality of the food (we got tacos, a quesadilla, a burrito and a burrito bowl). The food came out fast, was hot, fresh and delicious. They put three sauces (house made) on the table and each one is perfect, but the smoky salsa has my heart. We ended our meals with churros that were incredibly flaky and a true delight. The service was super friendly, the music was a bunch of 80s/90s bangers - you're encouraged to sing along. They have specials throughout the week and a weekend brunch that I am 1000% going back to. Of note: check out the spectacularly designed bathroom. Seriously. :)

I've been here twice now. More recently I spent $20 on a burrito to go and it was too much. Unfortunately the burrito was good, but not as good as the previous time. Their prices have also gone up exponentially. It's a good place for authentic Mexican food and a good sit down experience, but if you are taking out or want other Mexican food... it's just too pricey for that.

My sister took us here since they have the best birria but they didnt have anymore left when we got there. We got there at around 8pm and there was only one table taken besides us. We ordered carnitas tacos, al pastor tacos, guacamole&chips, tinga de pollo quesadilla, elote and flautas. Portion of meat on the tacos were great. My favorite was the guacamole & chips and tinga de pollo quesadilla.

I was a tad underwhelmed as I anticipated more authentic flavors. I came for dinner on a Wednesday night and the restaurant was completely empty which had me worried. I ordered the mango margarita as my drink which consisted of more juice than alcohol which was disappointing given the price of the drink. The guacamole and chips were okay. I just prefer alittle more spice in my guacamole. The birria burrito was recommended by my waitress which I appreciated. The burrito itself was filling yet more bean and beef forward. I'd be willing to return on Tuesday for their taco Tuesday specials.

I was walking by and saw a huge crowd, had to stop inside to see what the hype was about. Sat at the bar, the bartender Brenda made the best Margherita to date on the UWS! The food was awesome too!

It was a very wet Saturday in the city. Everyone is getting hangry. Our tourist's feet are about done. And then we discovered Taqueria 86 and my life was forever changed. O.M.GAHHHHHH. Everything we had was amazing! Breakfast burritos, Tacos Al Pastor, Pancakes, Burritos.... we ate what felt like the whole menu and EVERYTHING WAS INCREDIBLE. E V E R Y T H I N G! The waitress was kind, funny, and had lots of recommendations. Even to this tired Momma who ended up with 2 mimosas. This was one of the best restaurant experiences we had in NYC.

Decided to get some food to go and was pretty excited considering the positive reviews! Ordered al pastor tacos, chicken tinga flautas (they gave me tacos by mistake) birria tacos (which they forgot to put on my order for some reason), and guacamole and chips. Would have loved to give this place 5 stars, but the mistake on the overall order was disappointing. Guacamole was also not fresh at all! Had a carbonated/fizzy taste which apparently is a sign that it's spoiling or spoiled. However, the tacos I did get were still tasty. Would have to consider making sure my order is 100% before leaving the place next time if I ever end up back there for Mexican food.

Welcoming staff awaits your visit at this bright Mexican spot steps away from busy Broadway. We went in a group of 5 on a Saturday early evening (around 5:30-6p) and the place wasn't busy. Service is efficient and personable, and restrooms are spacious. Guacamole with chips: the guacamole was a bit sour (maybe too much lemon), but still good. It's pricey, though, probably in part due to high prices of avocados these days. Tacos al pastor: plenty of delicious pork slow-cooked in tomato sauce. It's not your usual al pastor, but it's yummy nonetheless. Very filling and lots of onion (which I like). Tacos de skirt steak: the meat felt like it was a little too charcoaled... gave me the impression that the surface it was cooked wasn't fully cleaned from the previous grilling. I may be totally wrong, but the meat was too blackened. Also, not as much meat as in the tacos al pastor. Chicken quesadilla: the chicken looked overcooked as well, so I'm not sure what happened. It looked dark, black in some spots (it was supposed to be just grilled, but looked like Cajun chicken). Overall, although there were some issues with some meat, we had a fine time. The place is welcoming, the staff very helpful and the food ok. I'd have to order other dishes to see if they're better. A 20% tip was automatically added to the check even though our party had 4 adults and one toddler...

This place is very good but it is very expensive. Firstly, the service was actually quite amazing with being checked on and recommendations for the menu. The chips and guacamole were very good and filling. We also then got a burrito to share which was more than enough food. It's a fun little place and very cute to sit down and have a chat.

Stopped here for dinner. Food - 4.5 / 5 By all metrics the chicken quesadilla was one of the best I've had - great tortilla, nice mix of sauces on top and on the side. I also had the barbacoa tacos - good but not "knock your socks off." Would try a different taco next time. Drink - 4.5 / 5 I enjoyed a cocktail with Mezcal. Didn't taste like it had a ton of alcohol in it but did enjoy it, good flavor. Service - 5 / 5 The restaurant was quiet when we stopped in and the waitress really did a great job seemingly giving our table her full attention, despite there being a few other parties also dining. The food is spicy and the team very quickly kept re-filling our water. Much appreciated and really did make a difference. Ambience - 4 / 5 Industrial, soccer-ey vibe inside. Understand what they're going for but decor can feel a bit steely and cold. Value - 4 / 5 It's NY, not cheap I'd say but also you get what you pay for - if you want top notch Mexican, you have to b=pay a bit more for it in NYC.

Very nice food. Service also decent. Ambience is more like taco shop vs upscale. Pricing is more than I would normally pay for tacos but I don't mind bec everything is delicious.

We have been going here since we moved into the neighborhood two years ago. The food is consistently good, prepared well and fresh no matter what I have ordered. I have had the chicken tinga burrito or bowl, quesadillas, and tacos. All have tasted authentic and have not been greasy. I have taken out more than I have eaten there but the decor is all about the World Cup. It is not fancy but modern and clean. The service has always been fast and attentive although it's not a large restaurant. The beer selection is great and I have also had margaritas here. Definitely one of my favorite places for Mexican food.

All of the food is amazing. They have a great tequila selection too. One notable high point for this place is the service. I ordered pickup and went to get it and got home and realized it wasn't my order. It was another person with my first name. Totally honest mistake. I called to let them know so they could hopefully catch it before the other Eric got there. They offered to let me have what I ordered on my next visit for free. That was very nice of them and I sincerely appreciated it.

I ordered a rajas poblanas burrito with spicy sauce on the side. I really enjoyed the spicy and bright flavors in the burrito, and the additional spicy sauce added the right kick. This is a great option for Mexican food in UWS.

The Al Pastor tacos are delicious: tender pork, onion and pineapple that are clearly fresh and just-chopped. Even cold (by the time I got the takeout home) they were wonderful. 4 stars for food quality alone. I think $7 a taco is a bit pricey, and I wish they would either A. Re-enable online ordering or B. Have a hostess stand at the front of the restaurant. The setup of the restaurant is odd because it's not clear where you should go if you'd like a table or to order takeout - you just walk in a set of double doors to the curious glances of already-seated customers, and have to intuit that you should head for the door to the kitchen at the other end of the establishment. Then you loiter there by the bar waiting for an employee to come and seat you or take your order (which they did, in my case, fairly quickly and very kindly).

Excellent food and reasonable prices. The waiters were very good. The place was bright and clean, if not fancy. .ore retro frel.

Are you kidding me? This place is heaven. I got a quesadilla, and the carnitas are the most flavorful I've had in years. I went months ago and am still craving it, which is what led me to write this review. I'd say if you're in the area it's a must-try, but honestly, I'd travel for it too!

Have now ordered take out several times. Always ready on time and the burrito bowl with chicken tinga is delicious! Good sized portion of the chicken and the tortilla they put it in is always so fresh.

Just opened on the UWS and this place is a hit! Great neighborhood place on 94th and Broadway. Watch out, once they get their liquor license, the margaritas will be flowing and it will be packed! The food is exceptional. Nice choice of tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and tortas. All freshly made to order. Cholula Tacos come 2 to an order and the Chicken Tinga is shredded marinated chicken in a chipotle sauce and pled on a fresh corn tortilla, topped with an avocado drizzle and fresh Mexican cheese. - Yum! The steak Burrito is to die for. A crispy flour burrito stuffed with marinated skirt steak, black beans, queso, pico de gallo, and guacamole. One of the best I've had!! The owner thought of everything from decor to the menu and he'll even stop by the table to make sure everything's perfect. I highly recommend Taqueria 86. Support this family run small business and enjoy a great meal at the same time.

don't order a black bean quesadilla. this is what I received. so sad. I should have eaten cheese and bread from my kitchen and saved $20. Maybe better in person but I won't be trying again.

Got there early and was empty but that quickly changed. Food was tasty and loved the Cubano torta which has a lot of ingredients. Service was attentive and ambiance though a little loud was lively. The owner even went to tables to talk to the customers which you don't see much. Overall a nice place and would consider going again if in the neighborhood.

As a Mexican LA native, I just want to say that this place is the real deal. First of all, the food truly surprised me with its homemade taste. I had the flautas which were just amazing. The guacamole was also so good. The quality of the food just tasted genuinely Mexican. The service was also amazing. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner and he just made the experience better. I would absolutely return and can't wait to be back in New York to be back once again.

My roomie and I tried Taqueria 86 for the first time while on a persistent hunt for a margarita happy hour close by to us in Central Harlem. We happened upon this gem after we saw the sign outside for taco tuesday ($4 tacos!). The staff was insanely nice and more than happy to explain the menu (I am vegetarian and had questions about the veg options and our server suggested the Puebla tacos which were INCREDIBLE). We also were successful finding our margarita deal ($9 house margs and we were pretty lit after 2). To top it off, probably the BEST part... whoever had the aux cord was playing Taylor Swift bangers back to back and as Swifites we were LIVING. All in all a fantastic atmosphere and vibe from the staff, bomb food, and exceptional margs.

Great Mexican with fresh tortillas which is awesome. On thé side street so it is a bit quiet but nice and roomy interior with a full bar. I came in for lunch so I am sure this place is hopping at night. Great food and ambiance will definitely come back.

Awesome hole in the wall on the UWS. I stopped in with friends on a Monday for happy hour. The place is small and very casual with a few tables and 5-6 stools at the bar. They had great happy hour deals; $8 margs, frozen or on the rocks (they did upcharge if you wanted to add a flavor). We ordered the guacamole to start which was fresh and delicious. My friend ordered two different orders of tacos (each order comes with 2 tacos) and her favorite was the el pastor ones. I ordered the steak burrito but opted to get it in a bowl form. It came in a crunchy tortilla shell bowl which I broke apart and ate. The service was great; very attentive and made sure we were happy. I'd recommend coming on Tuesdays if you'd like to try multiple taco flavors as they do a $3 Taco Tuesday special. Otherwise, you cannot mix and match the different tacos. Overall, this is a great casual spot with quality food! Can't wait to come back!

Really, really good. This place would've been unimaginable in Manhattan probably about 10 years ago, and certainly 15 years ago. As other reviewers have noted, the homemade corn tortillas are fabulous: They are pliant and fragrant as only freshly made tortillas can be, the PERFECT thickness, and not just an afterthought. They are not as thick as most commercially available, mass produced tortillas, but are so good at holding their texture even when ordered via delivery, you won't need to double wrap a taco. (I personally despise that practice.) There are a lot of regional specialties on the menu, including Guadalajara birria, filled with super tender, fragrant, well made beef, accompanied by a small ramekin of rich, flavorful consommé. The consommé tastes like the real deal, made with concentrated beef broth and sweet spices, not solely reliant on shortcuts (e.g. MSG laced bouillon powder) for flavor Although al pastor tacos were a touch sweeter than what I prefer, they were otherwise excellent, meat again perfectly tender and well seasoned, the sweetness of the canned pineapple concentrated by heat. The pork was not spit grilled as the best al pastor taco meat is, but all ingredients and seasonings were in perfect balance. Michoacan carnitas tacos were by-the-book juicy, filled with flavorful, but non-spicy filling accessible for children. The moist, slow-cooked meat was enjoyable, the unadulterated intrinsic flavors allowed to take center stage.(This takes a certain amount of chutzpah from the chef!) Also kid friendly: the flautas doradas, filled with your choice of filling (in our case tinga de pollo), which were the perfect combination of crispy and soft. The flautas were well blotted after frying, the filling juicy. Not a single item was over- or under-salted or poorly seasoned; everything was clearly made with care. Tacombi used to be top dog in our neighborhood -- but based on this meal, Taqueria86 beats the pants off Tacombi. Thanks for upping the game!!

I really enjoyed the grilled chicken burrito here! It was stuffed fresh with rice, beans, lettuce, pico de gallo, and covered with cheese. I liked that they had the sour cream and the salsas on the side so it wouldn't get soggy! I'm not sure whether they added the guacamole in - it probably could have a touch more of that flavor. I loved that they toasted the outside of the tortilla - it made the burrito extra yummy!

First time i went was about a week ago i stayed at the hotel across the street. OMG THE FOOD WAS THE BOMB DOT COMMMM i had Chicken Tacos and omg the freshest ingredients. I went after i smoked lol ima food lover and yesss atmosphere and all was calm. I went about 2 more times that week for Chicken Tacos lol yeah it was that good highly recommend that spot me and my partner love there

The staff were very friendly and the food was great. Went there with a friend after a show nearby and the place was nearly empty on a chilly Tuesday night. She's a vegetarian and they had a few options for her. I'm not really into sports themes, but the decor doesn't detract from the food!

When you first enter, you are infatuated with the interior and decor of this amazing taqueria. Everything is spotless, intimate, with wallpapers of photographs of the World Cup in 86 in Mexico. I tried three pieces of the Tijuana tacos. Service was amazing, very attentive, and super friendly. With this order of tacos, I had three assortments of sauces which all had a unique character of their own. I ordered the rice and beans after and that was a blessing, especially if you add some of the Mexican cream to the mix. Overall, this place had an amazing interior, comfortable vibes, and the food was above and beyond along with the service.

I hate to review this because I am afraid it will become too popular and I won't be able to get a table. But it is too good, I must share. We have now been 4 times and tried almost everything. All the food is terrific and the service friendly. The decor is fun and retro (like 1986). My favorite things are all the tacos! The chorros are great, drinks are great. This is fun for families or a date night. Everyone will love it.

This place was just ok. The tacos were tasty but nothing to write home about the radishes weee cut extremely thick. I would not rate it extremely high on my scale of good non-chain Mexican restaurants. They had taco Tuesday specials which was great!

Came for dinner with friends and really enjoyed the meal. The service was great and the food was very good, but some dishes were better than others. We started with the nachos which were satisfying, but the chips were extremely salty. For entrees, we tried the barbacoa quesadilla (would recommend) and the burrito (one of the best we have had in NYC). Our friends tried the fish and shrimp tacos and unfortunately did not enjoy them though. I would avoid ordering those dishes in the future. The homemade corn tortillas were very good and you can pick between that and flour tortillas for the quesadilla and burrito. For dessert we ordered the churros, but they were very undercooked. I think since the place recently opened, they just need to fine tune a few things, but we would definitely go back.

Taqueria 86 recently opened up in the Upper West Side and having heard the good reviews, I figured I should give it a try. I went inside and first thing I noticed was the decor, as it was decorated with the 1986 World Cup in mind, as it was held in Mexico. If you're a soccer/football fan, this is a nice spot to enjoy some Mexican food and watch a game or two as they do have TVs by the bar. I ended up trying the skirt steak burrito, which comes with rice, black beans, lettuce, pico de gallo, and queso fresco all inside a flour tortilla. Sour cream and guacamole are provided on the side as well as some salsa verde for some added heat and zest. My favorite part has to be the presentation, as this may easily be the best-looking burrito that I've ever seen. The many colors make the burrito look very vibrant and it shows that it is really packed with a lot of stuff even though it may look a bit small. As for the taste, the burrito was savory on its own thanks to the skirt steak, which I did find a bit dry, but overall, it really benefitted from the adding of the sour cream, guacamole, and salsa verde. The salsa verde provides a nice kick and some much needed zest that cuts through the heaviness of the sour cream while the guacamole gives a creamy and buttery flavor. The sides really help the main course shine with their stronger flavors while not taking away from the flavor of the steak itself. I also tried some Agua Fresca de Jamaica (Hibiscus Tea) and it was really refreshing, perfect if you're feeling parched. The agua fresca was not too sweet and was perfectly tart, which made a good pairing with the burrito, as the sour cream can make your meal quite heavy. If you're in the Upper West Side and have a craving for Mexican food, Taqueria 86 is a great choice. They have a wide variety of tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and even tortas, so there are plenty of options for Mexican food lovers.

The food is so good. Its honestly great. I just wish their prices were a smidge lower even though that isn't exactly stopping me from coming. Seeing the total on the check always leaves me with a bit of regret though.

Fresh house chips and guac were too die for!!! We stopped in after touring a local apartment, and it was just the refreshing spot we needed after a long day of running around the city. We went on a Wednesday night and got seated right away. We ordered their guac when we sat down and combined with two tacos each it was a filling meal for two hungry people. The tacos were good but the guac really hit the spot! It was obviously freshly mixed and perfectly seasoned. The chips were still hot and had just the right combination of thickness crispness and saltiness to pair well with the dip. I also have to mention that the service was amazing. Our waitress was very attentive but not overly and kept out food moving forward even on a slower week night. My favorite part was the consistant water service after a hot day lol!

My family enjoyed eating here. I'd recommend their burrito bowls or quesadillas, but I'm sure it's all good. Friendly staff.

I decided to try this place on a whim. I tried the steak burrito and birria tacos. Both were seasoned well, but the portion sizes were unexpectedly small. I thought the burrito would be much bigger and more loaded, similar to the photos on their Instagram and Yelp, but I was wrong. There was a very small amount of steak and the overall size was lacking. Both plates felt more like appetizers than main courses. I also found it to be a bit pricey for the amount of food served. The staff was nice and though the flavors were good, I probably won't be going back.

I'm so mad at how fucking good this is. PLEASE if you like birria tacos get them!!!!!! So good 10/10 it's juicy and very flavorful. A little pricy but it's definitely worth it!! The people here are also very friendly. My girlfriend says that the torta de chorizo con papas was an 8/10, los salsitas were SOOO good!! Come here if you want to try real authentic Mexican food.

consistently the best tacos in the city. omg. no matter what tacos I get, as soon as I put them in my mouth, my brains jumps to mexico.
