Was visiting San Rafael and while at a bar was looking for something to eat. This place is open somewhat late and quick authentic service! I probably could have called for pick up but I walked over and I just ordered a cheese quesadilla with flour tortilla and chips and salsa. My order was done quickly, they take Apple Pay and they had plenty of options to choose from. I wish I ordered a burrito or tacos to go but maybe next time! There’s street parking but I can see it busy if there’s many people out. Big restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating, booths, and bar type service. They have Self serve salsa.

So delicious! I ordered the Caldo de Marisco (mixed seafood soup) and it was phenomenal! It was a flavor explosion. Big chunks of seafood of all varieties like shrimp, real crab (in the shell), scallops, mussels (in shell) and white fish. Also potatoes, zucchini and other veggies. They gave me onions/cilantro/lime on the side to top it with. I'm so happy with my order it was absolutely delicious!! Will def be back!

I'll preface this by saying: everything's expensive when you don't want to make it yourself. You'll want to spend $15 on yourself or $40 on two people. And that's what you pay for great service. This restaurant has fast and friendly service and absolutely delicious product. Everything they make keeps great in the fridge as well; you can have two days of food for a decent price. Their timeliness on serving your order is hard to match. In just the last year, we've only had ONE time we had a delayed order, likely due to a staffing issue. My partner and I stop here 1-2 times a week for dinner when he works late. Even when the restaurant is packed, you can expect fast and quality food. And you can always find indoor seating for dinner. Honestly, they won't remember your face or what you like. But they will serve you all the same. They're one of the great restaurants around here, and they serve local schools ; I've been in there while the whole sports team is there and still gotten great service. Check out their menu first and definitely stop by. The super burritos are our favorite.

My favorite taqueria in San Rafael! Their preference is to call for pickup instead of using a delivery app (that takes a significant cut). Good portion sizes- great steak and shrimp plate that was enough to share. Pros: delicious food, quick (15 min), great value Cons: street parking

The food was done very well here which I found surprising for downtown San Rafael. I live in San Jose where there’s so many choices of good authentic Mexican food. The taco salad I got was so filling I couldn’t finish. I decided to try refried beans instead of whole but it made it kinda watery. That’s what I get for trying something out of ordinary for me so I’ll stick with my whole beans. The salsa bar was good as well and had all the salsas I like. I wish they had grilled jalapeños they offered but I also didn’t ask so will find out next time. The chips were freshly made which is important at any taqueria I feel. Not my number one choice but it’s definitely a top 5.

Learned that their fajitas contain bacon/pork by default even if you order beef and it is not mentioned in the menu or anywhere else. Also had another surprise in the meal but overall not a terrible place.

Food is not bad. Tastes good. But it’s mainly fish in the fish tacos in big chunks. Not much else to it. A bit expense for what I ordered.

Had the super Carne Asada with black beans, and I'll definitely be going back for more. My new go-to for Carne Asada burritos.

Got the asada burrito. Good flavorful meat and the the beans were perfect. So far the best Mexican food in Marin. Way better than Betsy's Tacos and a step up from Picante.

Things that are bone dry. The Sahara Desert. Palm Springs. A Martini. Death Valley. A burrito from Taqueria Bahia. Apparently Taqueria San Jose is closed for renovations so we headed over to this place based on the reviews. Small place, nice enough woman at the front counter. Ordered two burritos, one carne asada and the other pollo asado. The rice was old and stale. The chicken was also not fresh, just dried bits of flesh. While I had asked for refied beans, none were found. Little to no seasoning and even copious amounts of salsa couldn't resuscitate these two beasts as they were both completely devoid of any flavor.

Very tasty authentic and delicious Mexican cuisine! We loved the cheese enchiladas dish in the red sauce. Great flavor and great portion! The black bean and cheese burrito was also great! The staff was super friendly and helpful with our order. You can take out or sit down with plenty of indoor and outdoor dining.

This is my new favorite go to spot for tacos every since my partner moved up here. You order at the register and they will bring your food to the table. There is a self serve sauce bar with lime, jalapeños and other sides. Right next to the sauce bar is also where you get water. I believe chips are unlimited refill. The tacos are loaded with meat and are super flavorful. It can be a hit or miss though as the meat can be dry sometimes but I just put more sauce on it. My partner usually gets the chimichanga with refried beans. He had it with black beans and everything was falling apart. Perfectly fried and has a nice cheese pull because it comes out fresh! Although it is deep fried, it is not greasy at all. The employees are very nice and friendly and accommodate any requests with our orders. There is metered street parking but right down the corner there is also a parking structure that is free on the weekends!

I LOVE BAHIA! This is the best Mexican place in San Rafael. Food is well seasoned, so good my in-laws went to the kitchen and tipped the cook themselves! I go here frequently and it never fails to impress me. Mixed fajitas or tacos are my favorite. Not to mention their rice always tastes so fresh, and your meal comes with free chips. Literally 1000/10 it's so amazing, I couldn't recommend this place enough!!

Best taqueria in San Rafael, in our opinion. We get food here at least twice a week and when I used to work a few blocks away I would eat lunch here multiple times a week. Quick service, even during meal rush times. Excellent quality food and great vegetarian and vegan options -- all you have to do is ask.

I'm in Novato but my new local Taqueria spot is Bahia in San Rafael. I always go with a regular burrito with Black beans, Choice of meats like Carnitas/Carne Asada/Al Pastor rice, crema and onions (not a fan of cilantro) also not sure if they have Lengua but if they do that's next. The tasty meats, fresh rice and beans, burrito size and value all hit the mark. I'm always greeted and feel good when I get my takeout. I'll will have to come down and try their Menudo! The place is small and cozy. Street parking may be a challenge but easy enough if you park in a public lot.

I came for super fries, they are really delicious and they give you big portions. My daughter had rice beans and chicken and she loved it too!

Taqueria Bahia is vegan Mexican food heaven! If you have any allergies this is going to be a safe bet for you... The only qualm I have is that I wish they had everything labeled as dairy free, vegan, gluten-free, etc. I got the vegan burrito and it contained rice, beans, guac, lettuce, salsa and they also added on fajita veggies per my DoorDash request. Yes! The rice and beans - all of the bean options - are vegan! Thank you for allowing me to have a bomb, vegan burrito while visiting home!! I'll be sure to tell all my friends and family to stop by!

Got a super burrito with carne asada and refried beans. Everything was seasoned well including the chips and salsa, order came out on time and they take cards . Will be back for more

Just exploring downtown San Rafael and saw this place. Seems very busy esp.during lunch hours. A lot of construction workers like to dine here and was recommended to us while browsing their menu outside. We ordered a plate of Chile Relleno and Chimichanga (Beef) that came with rice, beans, guacamole and lettuce and ofcourse Horchata. They offered complimentary chips and salsa. The food were very delicious. Hubby enjoyed the Beef Chimichanga. He said that the beef was very flavorful and tender. I enjoyed the Chile Relleno esp. the red sauce that came with it. Overall was great except the chips, it was stale. We requested for more but didn't made any difference, still was very stale. The different salsa that came with tasted fresh though.

Honestly this is my favorite place. I should get a taco stamp card for free tacos by now but I come here everyday I send all my guest form hotel here tacos never fail me I love the birria and the ladies are very sweet and kind !

This place is great! Everything was fantastic and the staff were so helpful. Our food was perfect! As a native San Diegan, I approve of their California burrito. Husband loved his food too. Fresh salsa bar with several salsa options and chips were good and fresh too. Smallish place but nice booths to sit in and dine in. A little patio for eating outdoors as well. I'd be a regular if I lived around here.

Been here several times over the years- just now getting to a review (sorry Yelpers!). Street parking available- parking lot across the street. This place is overall a solid taqueria. Good value - large amount of food for the buck. Today I had the taco salad- and loved the fact you could specify the meat. The carnitas was amazing and so we're the reforestation beans. Definitely will be back.

the food was so good, definitely will come back! the quesadilla was my favorite, the fries were a bit room temp and only some were crispy. they give free complimentary chips which you get the sauce yourself. they don't give water so make sure to bring your own

As authentic as it gets. Taqueria Bahia is one of my favorite local Mexican spots. They know exactly what they're doing with their dishes, and I've never gone wrong. Even the basic dishes are fantastically done and I've never had to send anything back or had my order made incorrectly. This place has become a second home for me on those nights I just want to enjoy a meal by myself and stuff my stomach in peace. Rating 5 stars despite the unimpressive ambiance, and standard Mexican restaurant service. If you're about their vibe, this is a fantastic place to explore your Mexican food appetite.

Authentic Mexican food so good you'll want to try everything on the menu so come hungry.

Literally.the.best. We've lived Marin a long time and finally found this place a few months ago. We haven't had a bad thing between the chips, salsas, and burritos, it's hands down the best taqueria! The asada and pastor is like meat heaven! We've had it delivered to Tam Valley and had it in store and it's great both ways. The staff are super nice too! If you're not eating here you're wasting your money.

I'm not a big Yelp reviewer these days but felt obligated to respond after reading M.R. from Pinole's garbage review. Their food is great and they've had Birria on the menu since at least 2009 not just since it became the trendy new taco. They also have crispy tacos which isn't too common in San Rafael and sometimes I like my tacos crispy. Back to M.R. though. Who hates on a place in downtown San Rafael for not having it's own parking lot. Plus it doesn't have a family ambience? It looks exactly like a any local taqueria. It has a bunch of booths and the people there are all super nice. And the music is at the standard restaurant volume. Your takes are bad and you should feel bad.

My friend Marlee and I dined here on Monday, May 6. The food was absolutely amazing! The price was also really good. We plan to go again the next time I visit San Rafael! The chili Verde super burrito I got was amazing and so are the two tacos and the quesadilla she got.

Excellent authentic Mexican food, tried the tacos Doratos which exceeded expectations! Will be back and definitely recommend the food. Price is also very reasonable, especially during lunchtime.

For many years Bahia has been our favorite Taqueria. About a month ago we had dinner at Bahia and is was just OK. Last night we went for dinner and the food, the service, and the experience was terrible. My wife ordered a chicken enchilada. First she was served a cheese enchilada which we sent back. Then she was served another cheese enchilada; sent it back. The roast chicken enchilada that finally made its way to our table was filled with dark meat from a chicken that had no taste. I ordered a chili rellano; it had not arrived during my wife's 3 dishes. So I went to the cashier and complained. A few minutes later the worst excuse for a chili rellano was served to me. It had a chili that was overcooked; the egg batter was hardly there; and the cheese was minimal. The experience was like being in a restaurant where all the employees hated their jobs and could care less about their customers. We will not try Bahia again. This is very sad.

I ordered through doordash, so this is purely based on the food and wait time. The wait time was 10/10 service. Doordash let me know that it might be 40 minute wait, but I only had to wait about half the time to my food to be done and arrive - SUPER SPEEDY SERVICE!!!! As for the chimichanga, the sides were crunchy and very satisfying to eat and they give a good amount of cheese which I loved. The main reason why the rating is 3 stars is because I found the outside onion peel inside of the chimichanga and had to pick it out, which made it a little unappetizing because picking an onion peel after having it in your mouth is a strange feeling.

I've since come back multiple times to try a few other options. It remains my favorite burrito option in Marin, plus the people are super nice. Good vibes all around.

Had an awesome burrito Classico at Taqueria Baha! Everywhere I go I get the same burrito - black beans, rice, cheese, gauc and surprisingly many places can't nail even that. Bahia did it RIGHT! I'm definitely coming back. Staff are also super nice.

Have been coming here since the early 2000s when I went to grade school in the area. Decades later, I still stop by when I'm in the neighborhood: this place remains consistently satisfying and never disappoints!!

Absolute best chicken soup I've had anywhere, ever. The chicken was tender and juicy and the broth was bursting with flavor. The cabeza (head) tacos were wonderful and the meat practically melted in my mouth. In addition to this they have a lot of options for taco meat that you won't find on the menu at other places including buche and tripas. Which is great if you're feeling adventurous! Small complaint is that in my DoorDash order they forgot the salsa for my chips and they put two tortillas in one small box and all of the taco filling on top of them. The tortilla on the bottom became soggy and fell apart and it was difficult to portion everything out just right, but it's okay. It was delicious and I will continue coming back!

We stopped here on our way home to Napa. The customer service was amazing, all staff was very friendly and attentive to our needs. The food had a lot of great taste and flavor and came out very quickly- very filling portions. Would 100% recommend.

Ordered a carry out Saturday and ordered 5 super burritos and 2 aqua Fresca. Food was filling and the flavor was OK. The chips and salsa was small nothing exciting. They got one of our order wrong and we didn't feel like going and taking it back. We got 2 steaks and 3 chicken, one without sour cream. I don't think that is a complicated order. Aqua Fresca needed more flavor. When we got their the staff was eating and waited a few minutes.

Ok....so I've eaten at plenty taquerias in the bay and living in San Rafael have tried a majority of them. My kids wanted to try a new tonight, and I have been wanting to check out Taqueria Bahia. The place was great. Very clean, the pictures on the wall were spot on, and the service was amazing. The gentleman taking our order was very patient with my two boys and didn't seem to mind their indecisiveness. We ordered to go and each ordered burritos. My oldest got a steak Chimichanga. Big in size, and the steak was good. The outside was a little oily but he's a teenager and ate the whole damn thing. My little one and I got regular burritos. No frills, just straight up meat, rice, beans, and salsa. The pastor I got was good, not great. The rice was over cooked and the whole thing was a little bland. The same goes for my other child who got the grilled chicken. That was t the kicker. The kicker is the burritos were small. For the price they're charging I was expecting a mission style burrito. Something with a little girth. Instead it looked like a wrapped hotdog from Costco. The salsa bar was ok, and added a little more flavor to the burritos, but not much. If i was craving taqueria style food and in downtown San Rafael and would probably keep in walking to the many other taquerias in the area. It would be a hard no to come back to Bahia.

I've been going to this out-of-the-way place for some 30 years. In the beginning the decor was light, but the food was great.. after Covid they really dress the place up. The service is sparse and the staff makes you feel like they are being put out having to serve you, the burritos aren't as good as they were, but are still better than most.

This is my favorite taco place. I could eat 5 of there tacos in one sitting. I like there carne asada beef tacos. The beef is super beefy tasting. I'm not sure what they do to cook them like this but they are amazing. I once ate there tacos for lunch for a year straight they are so good. I also like to get guacamole on there tacos. It's good guacamole too. That's sort of like eating my vegetables if I get the guacamole, right? Plus the prices are pretty good for a filling meal in downtown San Rafael. Most other restaurants are more expensive for a lunch or dinner. Just eat here you will be happy.

Love the food! The cooks are the best ones I have ever met. They really put love to their cooking. I have been a customer for years. I stop going because they change the cooks but now they are back again. Anything on the menu is good! My personal favorite is the Menudo and a chile verde burrito.

Sadness this places closes early now. There tacos are amazing but the chili rellenos sauce is where it's at. Must gets if available buche, cabeza, or lengua.

This might become one of my fave taquerias in San Rafael. The interior is dim and somewhat shabby and obviously hasn't been redone in decades... and I kind of like that. It's perfect for when you have an empty stomach and some time to kill, and you just feel like chilling in a dark booth without being noticed or bothered. The folks who run it are totally laid back and will happily customize your order. I got a vegetarian chimichanga with refried beans and no cheese or sour cream, plus a side of rice and beans, and some guac to go. All that was about $16 and portions were generous, especially the guacamole which came in a 4 oz. cup. The chimichanga was delicious--large, crispy, and smothered in guacamole and pico de gallo. Beans were tasty. The rice was a little bland, but since I loaded everything with extra salsa from the salsa bar, I didn't notice all that much. I also threw on some vegan sour cream from a recent shopping trip, which added a nice level of contrast to the piping hot chimichanga. I loved the selection of salsas, and that they and the chips were free. Overall, great place. I'd gladly return.

I absolutely love Taqueria Bahia. The quesabirria tacos are amazing, if you have an appetite. The carnitas is excellent - super flavor and just the right amount of crispiness. Don't sleep on this spot!
