Food is so good here. Excellent fish tacos!

Google
This was my first time eating at this intimate eatery. The location is tucked in a small strip mall off Severn Avenue in Metairie. The parking was a challenge as we decided to try the restuarant as everyone was getting off work. There were lots of families and couples eating and enjoying drinks. Although the tables are closely packed, the noise level was comfortable. Our waitress quickly took our order from a menu that included Lenten fish and shrimp tacos, flautas, burritos and other authentic Mexican dishes. The regular menu has a lot of choices and combinations to choose from. Dishes are moderately priced and portions are generous. We all took TO GO boxes home. After the check was paid staff did not act impatient as we lingered finishing our conversation. Taqueria Corona is obviously a place where the locals eat and enjoy each other's company. I enjoyed the meal, the customer service, the family friendly atmosphere and the reasonable price range. I will definitely go back.

Google
The food was delicious. Of the 3 tacos I ordered, the shrimp were the best. Not a huge fan of the chorizo, though. The ribeye used in the California Burrito and quesadilla was a hit as well, as the grilled flavor of the meat could be tasted even through the cheese.

Google
It was first time there, it's a small place, yet the waitress seemed overwhelmed! The ceviche was NOT good!!! The way it was presented was awful! I couldn't eat it 😞 my friend got the steak and it was not all that great either! He left almost half on the plate! When we got home he ate a sandwich 😭Beans n rice were cold!

Richard S.

Google
Food was tasty and the prices appropriate for the location and the food. The wait staff was really good. Overall we will definitely return.

Google

Google
I was recommended this place by a friend & it didn’t disappoint. I had blackened fish & shrimp tacos which were DELICIOUS, along with a fried beer batter fish taco. The beer batter taco could’ve been lightly fried, it was a very over cooked which had less meat in it. Overall, my experience was good a one. Their original salsa as well as the mango salsa that came w the tacos were delicious!

JC 1.

Google
The tongue and fish taco are the best. And if you go try the shrimp flauta.

Katie L.

Yelp
We loveeeee corona. Best food. Huge portions. The grilled onions are a family favorite! Can never go wrong here!

Camille M.

Yelp
The food was extremely disappointing. Everything tasted bland and seemed to be processed or pre-made. The "salad" was just shredded taco-style lettuce, Tostito salsa, bagged shredded cheese, and chewy chicken. The guacamole was clearly store-bought, and the only decent item was the queso appetizer--but even that was $12 for a very small cup. Overall, disappointed is an understatement.

Laura N.

Yelp
This place suffers from inconsistent quality. Last night the no meat California burrito barely had any lettuce and was missing other ingredients as well.

Yelp
We got here during the lunch hour. My co-worker1q ordered the numero tres. I ordered the beef enchiladas and the chicken quesadillas. We were served relatively quickly. I was most impressed with the tenderness of the chicken quasadillas. It was just great to finally get a good quasadilla that didn't have tough meat for a chance. Also, the portion sizes here are great. You get a lot of food for the price. There were so many great options to choose from. I immensely enjoyed eating here.

Yelp
I love this place. Their food is delicious and I honestly don't understand why they aren't as busy as they should be ALL THE TIME! Their best items: fish taco and the shrimp flauta! TO DIE FOR! literally melts in your mouth! Also queso, guacamole and salsa - all delicious and the Mexican pizza! Get it all.
google avatar

Lacey D.

Yelp
I've had two consistently good meals at Taqueria Corona. Both times the service has been excellent. My husband and I both got the numero uno y medio. I got the house salad, carne asada taco, the bean burrito, and the shrimp flauta. My husband got the fish taco, bean burrito and shrimp flauta. We also started with the dip trio. Everything was delicious! I love the grilled green onions on the carne asada taco and the steak is seasoned and tender, not tough or over cooked. I will definitely return!

Sam J.

Yelp
Terrible service. The host( phone puppy) was clueless and shouldn't be in customer service. Completely messed up my order, wasted a good hour of my time, and no refund/ willingness to make the situation right. As a frequent customer who goes out of their way, we will not be supporting this business anymore. The location on magazine is SUPERIOR. Must be different ownership

Rachel F.

Yelp
Totally rip off, lame boring Mexican. Very expensive- $30 for chicken fajitas- zero left overs & typically every meal I eat out i bring half home. Super small portions. Never returning. Too many good Mexican spots with more creativity & bigger portions.
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
Classic Metairie no frills Mexican spot. I've been going here for 35+ years. Numero uno y medio for life!

Emilie L.

Yelp
Stopped by today to grab something to go- the food is absolutely YUMMY! I had the lunch special dos tacos- it came with two tacos of my choice (pork & carne asada) and a shrimp flauta with beans and rice and guacamole salad plus a side salad with chicken! Tons of food! The service was impeccable! I highly recommend this place!

Celeste A.

Yelp
Every time we have been there, the food is great! So delicious and generous portions of food are served. We have been coming here for several years and the food and service have always been top-notch. Taqueria Corona is #1 in our book.

John G.

Yelp
Good food made with quality ingredients. Just a little pricey! Decent Mexican food though!

Michael L.

Yelp
Food was pretty good. Be nice if they gave you unlimited chips and salsa instead of having to pay for it.

Yelp
If you know me, then you know I LOVE TACOS!!! I could eat them every day, and some days I do. Taqueria Corona (Metairie) is in an unassuming strip mall near the corner of Severn and West Esplanade. They have a dozen or so tables, quick table service and GREAT tacos! We went on a Saturday evening a little earlier than the normal dinner crowd (5:45pm) and we were seated immediately, but it wasn't long before there was a line of folks waiting to get in the door, so get there early if you don't want to wait. They serve your expected options, with a few twists (hello tongue taco!) and everything we tried was fresh and delicious. I had a salad and the Carne Asada taco which was overflowing with filling, as in I could have made two tacos out of the one with the delicious tender meat and ciboittos packed into just one tortilla. My wife ordered the California burrito which was, literally, BIGGER that her head. Great meal, fantastic prices, prompt service. If you need tacos awhile in Metry, go here!

Yelp
I wanted to get some tacos for my sister in law for her birthday. I waited till 11:00 to order the food then drive to the northshore. I called three times and no answer, by that time we had arrived. At 11:15 the restaurant was still was not open. One of the workers was just showing up and couldn't get in either. If you can't open on time, change your hours of operation. Shame on you.
google avatar

Don G.

Yelp
Food is always excellent. Fast attentive service. Good value. Atmosphere clean and lively.

Bobby L.

Yelp
I love eating here when I'm in NOLA. Always on my list for supper. I always get Lengua tacos and toreados. Although they always look at me a little funny for a fat old white guy ordering them.
google avatar

Kurt L.

Yelp
There is only one place that lacks the ambiance of uptown more than Metairie-so I went to the Metairie location. I was surprised to shoveling Modelo in favor of Dos Equis, and tezcate ? Good thing they are located in such a neighborhood that has always been traditional orthodox Jewish. Once my friend ordered a cheeseburger from that place. (Kosher Cajun deli). The guy said "well you can't do that, it is a violation of some kosher law!!!...... My helper at the time said "well can I get a hamburger with a slice of cheese (on the side)?????) he then placed the cheese on the burger, they basically determine it's like picking your nose Went the other day "during lent season" and ya-da, I scored my fish taco that had been so elusive. There was a plate with (2) fish tacos , (1) shrimp flauta, and a seafood type of burrito of some..

Yelp
A hidden gem! This little Mexican spot Mexican can certainly serve up some quality Mexican food! I can honestly say they have some of the best Mexican food in the city if not the best... that says ALOT! The portions are huge that my significant other and I were able to share one entree and were stuffed. The food is all made to order. We had the chicken nachos or and the Numero Tres. Both items were superb! Also, the staff were pleasant and friendly! I love this spot!
google avatar

Angora S.

Yelp
Delicious! I got the California Burrito with chicken and the beef Mexican pizza. I was pleasantly surprised. The chicken was moist and easy to chew - all the ingredients were fresh and the salsas are authentic. The margaritas are nice and strong. I cannot wait to go back. That Mexican pizza has me in a choke hold!
google avatar

Yelp
I love this place. I have been a regular customer at Taqueria Corona for years, and am as happy with the food and service now as I was on my first visit. If you like authentic Mexican food, this is the place to be. My favorites are the fish tacos - crispy fish, tangy tartar sauce - the cheese enchiladas - OMG, soooo much cheesy goodness - and the vegetarian California Burrito - it's full of all the good things Mexican food has to offer; rice, beans, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, guacamole - and it's HUGE. I almost miss being pregnant, because I could get away with eating an entire California burrito without the side glances and judgy eyes of my wonderful, but skinny family. Crazy that that's the one thing that makes me wish I was pregnant again. Oh, but speaking of not being pregnant, the sangria is pretty tasty. It's very fruity and refreshing, and as cocktails go, it's not very strong, so you can split a pitcher with a friend and not leave sloshed.

Yelp
Too bad the chips and salsa was over $4.00. I thought this was a complimentary treat at most Mexican restaurants. The salsa taste too much like cilantro. I order a pulled pork and a fish taco, and they were both very delicious. The rice and beans could've used a little seasoning.
google avatar

Yelp
1 word. Unimpressed. Everything about this experience was unimpressive. Ordered the queso fundido as an appetizer. It took 20 minutes for it to arrive. The frozen house margaritas were the only thing that made the wait manageable. I ordered the beef taco pizza and I waited with a drooling mouth for it to arrive. However, the result as stated earlier was...unimpressive. There was no crunch to this pizza. Couldn't even pick it up. It tasted like I was eating forkfuls of beef and cheese. My friend ordered the steak, chicken, and shrimp tacos and she was....unimpressedddddd! Sigh. Not much else to say. Wouldn't go back unless it was just for margaritas. Oh, and they charge 1 dollar for sour cream. I just can't.

Yelp
I have been here twice now, and enjoyed both times. In the middle of a strip mall that faces north on the corner of Severn and West Esplanade, there is plenty of parking in front, and a handicap ramp leading into the restaurant. It seems small looking at it from the outside, and is on the medium side once you get in. Seat yourself. The food is good and quite filling. They do have a special menu for lent, if you are the kind for that. Their soft tacos are full, their burritos are a decent size, and they are quick on the beverage refills. The prices are fair for the portions you get. Inside is neat and clean and their restroom are well stocked. I look forward to eating here again in the future.

Yelp
Knocked on the door at 4:55 PM and they wouldn't let me in. The woman said they open at 5 PM, I'm never coming back

Yelp
Pretty good food! You get a LOT of protein in your tacos and it is seasoned well and presented simply. If you go for anything, go for the tacos rather than anything smothered in cheese or sauce. A lot of food, good service, mellow atmosphere, not a lot of $$. We went at noon on a Saturday and were seated immediately. Guacamole is smooth and not too lemony, just right. My eyes were bigger than my stomach and I ordered the Numero Tres. Choice of 3 tacos: fish (crispy, cooked perfectly, just enough cabbage and tartar sauce), tongue taco (my first time; tender and yummy), pork (not quite the "thin slices" as on the menu, but good) - all packed with protein and little filler as said before; chicken burrito (more black beans than chicken); shrimp flauta (mostly cheese and not many shrimp). Be forewarned, the "salad" has lettuce somewhere but is topped with chicken, shredded cheese, sour cream and maybe hot sauce? I left that to the side.

Jeff A.

Yelp
Good Food, okay prices. Consistent. Grilled green onions appetizer is a must. They have stood the test of time.

Yelp
This place was amazing! I am Not the biggest fan of Mexican-inspired cuisine, but this place has converted me! On the suggestion of my boyfriend, I tried a flauta for the first time and it was delicious! I was not sure about ordering a taco with only pico on it because when it comes to tacos I stick to meat and cheese, but I was very pleasantly surprised. The quality and flavor of the steak on the taco was so wonderful I could have eaten only that for my meal and I would have been satisfied. I am also very picky when it comes to pico, but theirs was excellent as well. Don't let the fact that this restaurant is in a strip mall deter you because it is an outstanding quality and price. My only complaint is that I wish they had an outdoor area. This place deserves the best location with as many bells and whistles as possible. Fortunately for them, they don't need any of that; their food sells itself.

Yelp
This joint was in my weekday lunch rotation when I worked in one of the nearby office towers and I hadn't been in a few years until a recent dinner. I have eaten many more times at the location on Magazine Street but this location has been consistent with a some improvement in the service being needed at times. This restaurant is a bit different from your typical Tex-Mex joint and offers some things most of the other area Mexican type places don't as the Honduran owners put their own slightly different spin to some things. They have their "cebollitas" grilled green onion appetizer that is tasty. They offer the usual taco, burrito, and other options wrapped in some type of tortilla like most Mexican joints do. I usually opt for one of the entree platters to get a selection of several different things. This is one of the few places to offer beef tongue as a meat option to stuff your taco or other tortilla wrapped entity. Overall this is a decent spot for a lunch or dinner in the area but there are quite a number of decent choices around these days in this busy area of Metairie so make sure to sample as many as you can.

Yelp
I think this spot is pretty hit or miss. I got a combo fajita and was unhappy with the quality of shrimp and ribeye which was very small, shallow and dry. However, the chicken fajita was pretty good, so I'd recommend that instead. My boyfriend liked his blackened fish taco, but I was very unimpressed with the flauta that came with the number two combo. The staff was friendly though, but you have to choose wisely from the menu to get food you will enjoy
google avatar

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Always awesome! The only thing I don't like is the new salsa they put on the fish tacos. I miss the old creamy one, the mango is okay. I absolutely love the black sauce, it's great on everything. Service is always great
google avatar

Dariela W.

Yelp
Super friendly staff! The place smells delicious and looks extremely clean. We had rib-eye and fish tacos, rice and beans. The rib-eye tacos were juicy and had great flavor, they come with a grilled green onion in the middle which adds up to the great flavor. The fish tacos were battered just enough, the flavor was also great. They come with cabbage and a kind of spicy tartar sauce. We also enjoyed the black beans and rice! I ate two tacos, rice and beans and I really like that I felt satisfied but not to the point of going into a food comma. This is definitely my to-go place for steak tacos. Their health score is really good on yelp so I will definitely come back!

Yelp
I lived right around the corner from this tucked away spot for years and never checked it out. Well my bestie and dining partner in crime decided to take a stroll to Taqueria Corona for lunch since it's not far from her office. It's always good when you can burn a couple calories before you eat tacos right!? On a Friday just before 1PM this little spot had a decent crowd, but we were still seated immediately. Our friendly server came thru quickly to take care of us. We started with chips & guac and a couple margaritas. Nothing special about the guac at all. Margaritas were just ok. Im tough about my 'Ritas though. The menu said the fish tacos were fried. Of course I wanted fish tacos! DUH! So I asked if I could have them grilled. She explained that there actually is a grilled fish taco. On another menu. That she failed to give to us. Totally different fish and different toppings. Good thing I asked! Anywho, food came out in good time to say it was lunch hour. Those fish tacos were SO GOOD! It was a blackened drum with a pineapple salsa some red cabbage. The flavors just made me so happy. This is def on my list of favorite fish tacos in the Metairie area.

Yelp
I was in the mood for Mexican, and also a frozen margarita. I haven't been to this location in years but I always see that they have a big lunch crowd. First, let me say that it was hard to understand my waitress. I was trying to ask her if they served an enchilada with a spicy green sauce on top. I don't know if she knew what I was talking about, so I ended up getting the number one entree. Note, they do not offer complimentary chips and salsa. I ordered that and a frozen margarita with salt. She asked if I liked my salsa hot or mild and I picked hot. Well it was hot alright. Their margaritas have always been good. The salsa was really hot, so I didn't eat that much bf my entree came. My entree came with a bean and chicken enchilada, soft chicken taco, cheese flauta, spelling? beans and rice. If I would've know there were so many black beans in this dish, I would've substituted the enchilada with something else. The tastiest thing on my plate was the soft chicken taco. The chicken was full of flavor. As you can see in my picture, they hardly give you any Spanish rice. Bottom line, the service was just ok and the best thing was the chicken taco and the frozen margarita. I wasn't offered more water when my cup was empty. And when I asked for the check, I made a comment about how the salsa was too hot and I didn't eat it. My waitress didn't offer to take it off the bill. I always tip 20% or more, and that's what I gave her, the 20%. If I ever go back, I would get the drink and just the tacos bc that's enough to fill me up.

Yelp
I just had the best quesadilla ever at this place for a very reasonable price. Great service and the place is immaculate. Eat here!!!

Yelp
Crazy good! We stopped in here for dinner one night and even though it was a Friday, it wasn't crowded at all. I had never been here before, but I knew what I was in the mood for so ordering was a breeze. I started with a frozen margarita with salt and chips and queso. The margarita was perfect, and although it was probably from a mix, I liked it. The chips and queso were a perfect start- the chips were nice and thin and not too salty. For my entree I got the pork burrito and I got an order of rice and beans on the side. This burrito was HUGE! I loved that it was topped with sour cream and taco sauce and it was jam packed with huge pieces of pork, rice, beans, sour cream, cheese and guacamole. This would have been easily split between two people. The rice and beans were okay, but I found the rice to be a bit dry. Service was spot on our waitress didn't leave us waiting for the check or the box. I will return.
google avatar

Mike Z.

Yelp
I love the refried beans and how for about 5 dollars you can get a huge delicious bean burrito. This place is awesome. Other things, like sides can be a little expensive for the portion that comes, but that's how businesses are.
google avatar

Mike T.

Yelp
Ate here during Cinco De Mayo after my haircut. This place is a hole in the wall, but it's really good. There's a open kitchen so you can see them cook your food. Plus you will know that your food will come out hot. During Cinco De Mayo, they play music, and I think they sell alcoholic drinks as well. It was my first time eating here and my family from Nailcessity recommended this place to me. I ordered the the fish taco, pork taco, and beef taco with a side of rice and beans. I also ordered a small mango and strawberry margarita. The food came hot and fantastic. The portion were big. Took me for surprise.
google avatar

Michelle Q.

Yelp
The service was really great today. I enjoyed my fish tacos. The fish was fried not grilled. I wish that the restaurant would have described the dish on the Lenten menu.
google avatar

Terry F.

Yelp
I met my daughter & grandkids for dinner. For starters we had a pitcher of margaritas which were good. We ordered chips with guac, queso & salsa. Our entrees were fish tacos, taco salad & numero medio. My numero medio was very good as were the other dishes. Very good guacamole with the chips. I give it a 4 star rating because it tasted so fresh & flavorful. The service was excellent & our waitress was the attentive as could be. Thanks for a good dining experience. Recommended!

Yelp
This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in the city. Been to all of their locations, but this one is my favorite. Not sure if it's because of the location or ambiance, maybe both. I never had any issues with spectacular food at a great price. Love all their apps. The ceviche can easily be your meal. Their flautas are so delicious: cheesy and fresh meat (I usually get their shrimp, which has that crisp, pop-py feel of extremely fresh seafood.) Their refried beans are some of the best around. Their fish tacos are how I judge other fish tacos. Fresh fish, perfectly fried with the right amount of sauce and red cabbage on top. I've tried all their tacos, and they're all good. But that fish taco has a piece of my heart. Fajitas are always a lot of food for that price. But I can't resist their numero dos and bring home their burrito for lunch. It's always so much food delivered with a smile on their face. A lot of times, the owners are there, and their food and service always shows it.
google avatar

Candace H.

Yelp
The food is good. But i find ordering a little difficult because I order a la carte and that is on the back of the menu. I like their queso and their shrimp flauta. It has a lot of cheese! Like it is 90% cheese. No added spice or flavor and not every bite has shrimp. I also ordered the beef flauta today and it was ok but not my fave. The service was good and attentive.
google avatar

Melinda C.

Yelp
Came to eat dinner on a random wednesday. Got seated right away. I got the numero uno y medio with fish tacos, chicken burrito and shrimp (fried taco). I thought the fish taco was the best thing on the plate. Everything else was pretty mediocre. it cost 13 dollars. I wish i wiuld have just gotten 3 single tacos and maybe would have enjoyed it more. You have to order chips and salsa if you want them and they are not free. I have never been to a mexican restaurant that didnt serve chips and salsa regardless. but i do come from california where theres a mexican restaurant every other block so perhaps I am spoiled in that sense. I thought this place was pricey for what was served. I would recommend just the tacos if you do eat here. Other people at my table had the lengua and rib eye which they said were delicious.

Yelp
I'm surprised today. I didn't really enjoy myself at the location in Uptown a few weeks ago. But I found myself craving Mexican today. Actually I was craving what I like to call Healthy Mexican- Chipotle, Mission Burrito, Free Birds. I realize now that there's an Izzo's on Vets, but it's a bit far and my car is on the top floor of the garage. Taqueria Corona is two parking lots over, walking distance. I ordered the same thing I got Uptown, with a couple of tweaks, for take-out. Tacado Salad, half chicken, half bean, with no sour cream. (If I hadn't eaten half of the shell that I never eat, this would've been close enough to a healthy option.) I also got their "spicy" red sauce to pour over it. I know my taste buds are more sophisticated when it comes to heat (see also: fried from eat Thai/Indonesian chilies like pickles), but that sauce was not spicy. Something with a bit (or a lot) more punch would've taken this to the next level. But, the salad was better than it was Uptown. And I was generally more pleased with my take out experience than I was with my dine in. Close to the office. Pretty cheap. Fresh ingredients. I'll call this a work week win! Oh... But you don't get free chips and salsa. Mexican Food is supposed to include Pre Food. However, since I did takeout, I didn't miss it at all. And really, if we weren't such fatties, we'd realize that no chips and salsa means more room for your real meal.

Yelp
The best Fish Tacos in the city. It's always on point, crispy, fresh and delicious. Also, a fan of their pic de Gallo great flavor simple and tasty. Tasted the Ribeye Burrito the meat had a wonderful flavor and a generous portion. Taqueria Corona is a great restaurant quality food, reasonably priced with a casual atmosphere

Yelp
I have no idea what has happened to TC, but for the first time I was VERY disappointed in my meal. I ordered 2 chicken taco pizzas to go. Chicken taco pizza is my standard order for years. The ones I took home yesterday were a fraction of the size they used to be and were absolutely tasteless. Perhaps Covid plays a role in the sizing, but for it to have no taste - that's on the restaurant. Not sure when/if I'll order from them again.
google avatar

Caitlin L.

Yelp
Very disappointing. Ordered a to-go order. Got home with the food. Literally our side of rice we ordered, we opened it up it might have been four bites at the most. Moved on to the hot sauce that was given and it taste just like pace picante. Then the chip tasted store bought as well. Just overall very disappointing. Definitely won't be back.

Les L.

Yelp
The food is usually pretty good, but the manager and wait staff are just so-so. Recently arrived looking for a table for 2. The manager suggested a very small 2-seater, which can get very cluttered with drinks, appetizers, plates etc. We requested an open table that seats 4, similar to other 4-seaters in the restaurant with 2 customers seated at them. She proceeded to tell me that they had a table for 2 that was open. I asked if we could take the table for 4 and her reply was "You can take the table for 2". After going through this same exchange 3 times, I asked her directly if she was telling me that I couldn't have the table for 4. She only smiled and said that the table for 2 was available. At that point we walked out. Extremely rude behavior for a "family-run" restaurant. Needless to say, we won't be back.

Yelp
Do NOT confuse this place with Taqueria Guerrero, especially this particular location... Aside from the names obviously being different as long as you don't stop reading two-word restaurant names after the first word or passing glance (this is also important in not confusing Fuddruckers with Buttfuckers... of which one will clean out your colon, and the other will clean out your colon) Taqueria Corona is on an entirely different level than Taqueria Guerrero. If Guerrero was a dragon in Game of Thrones, then Corona would be that little peasant chubster that got stabbed by Arya. Or maybe it wouldn't even be in Game of Thrones. It would be some silly common card in Magic: The Gathering that gets laughed at for being even more laughable than those still playing Magic: The Gathering. There is no reason to go here. What are you thinking even reading this review? Stop reading. Go read a review for Taco Bell or something, or at least go to the Uptown location. That didn't seem as bad. I have no memory of ordering a taco salad there that bore a striking resemblance to, as Katie put it, "cat brains". Now, I've never eaten cat brains, nor am I entirely sure what they look like inside a tortilla bowl on top of lettuce, but I can't with 100% certainty be certain the world was not one less stray alley cat short that day. Speaking of cats... you could also just go to El Gato Negro. That would work too.
