Taqueria Corona is the kind of neighborhood gem that makes you feel lucky to live nearby. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere that captures the spirit of a true Mexican taqueria. The food is consistently flavorful and fresh—whether it’s their sizzling carne asada tacos, generously stuffed burritos, or the addictively crispy chips and house-made salsa that start off every meal just right. It’s clear the ingredients are thoughtfully sourced and the kitchen takes pride in delivering authentic flavors without unnecessary frills. What really sets Taqueria Corona apart, though, is the heart behind the service. The staff is always friendly, attentive, and quick to recognize returning faces, adding a personal touch that’s rare in most casual eateries. The prices are fair, the portions satisfying, and it’s the kind of spot where both quick takeout and slow dinners with friends feel equally right. Whether you’re rolling in for a weekday lunch or winding down with a cold beer and enchiladas after work, it never disappoints. A true staple for the neighborhood.

My SO and I ordered Numero Tres, which included a buritto, a flauta, and we each had 3 tacos. Good amount of food for a reasonable price. Due to the late hour and time it took for our server to check in we decided to take food to go. The following day, I heated up my flauta, bit into it and instantly felt an object in my mouth, which turned out to be a toothpick. Looked into the flauta, and there was a 2nd one. This could've been a pretty awful situation. My SO called the following day to report the situation with hopes no one else has the same experience, and it was confirmed that they often place toothpicks in the flautas. My SO suggested they let customers know. She was asked what she wanted them to do and offered another plate of food, which was declined by my SO.

Don’t come here if you don’t want your food put in the microwave ordered a quesadilla and they put it in the microwave . I usually order tacos and they are amazing like 10/10 but this time wanted to be a little adventurous I dot have a microwave at my house so paying for food and it be microwave is a red flag and alarming

Google
The food is average, if not slightly above. The restaurant, on a 90-degree day, struggles to maintain a comfortable temperature. That and the occasional smoke from the kitchen. The service was friendly but one person during lunch rush resulted in slow service.

Google
seems like an overcrowded hole-in-one-wall. Friday at 5pm and there's a 10+ minute wait for 2 people? ordered a cocktail while waiting on the corner by the entrance because there's no bar to sit at. the sangria just tasted like cheap syrup. only had guacamole and salsa which was fine, so I can't say anything about the entrees.

Moss Konick

Google
My partner ordered from here over the phone, we saw the one dollar sign and the high reviews and figured it'd be fine for a quick pick up. We spent over 30 dollars on 'cotton-ball dry' chicken and hard shell tacos that made me wish I had just gone to taco bell. No sour cream on either, just salsa sides. And again nothing but the chicken for 5$ a taco. Go to Juan's, Felipe's, or literally taco bell before going here

Kyle Herr

Google
If I could give this meal zero stars I would. The steak and chicken in the tacos was overcooked dry and poorly seasoned plus it had no fixings, not even cilantro. The burrito is nothing but beans straight from a can. All the salsas are watered down. For the price of the meal this is insulting, yall should be ashamed. I want my money back. For the tip I gave your staff to split, I should have given recommendations on how to cook. I wouldn't even feed that mess to a dog

Google
The best Mexican food in town! This place has become a second home. Just look at the wall of family pictures sent to them. Everything is quality and made fresh. This is family owned and operated and they take time to make each customer feel the same love they put into their food. Ed is also a swiftie and the best waiter in town!!!! The mom who cooks the food on the grill is gorgeous and hasn't aged a single day in 20 years. The handmade salsa options are elite! The tacos meat is delicious and not greasy at all. There are few places we frequent weekly this is the top one for many years! I love corona and run into so many locals here it feels like a secret club. The music, laughter, and clean atmosphere keeps me returning! No matter how busy they are- they take the time to catch up with you on your life and tell stories of their own. No frills or judgement. When you enter those doors you are treated as a member of their family. This is true NOLA vibes and I honestly have nothing bad to say about this. I was raised in Texas and frequent Mexico often. This is the most authentic cuisine the city has to offer. Much love and to many more years of success!

Yelp
Roberto owns and operates the best Taqueria in the city, I've been dining here for 30 years! Try it!

Yelp
Congratulations! This place was the absolute worst Mexican food we have ever had... You can always tell a lot first by the chips and salsa that you have to pay for and the chips are from a bag and the salsa is flavorless pico. The tortillas are not handmade, the rice and beans are terrible, the queso "sauce" is from a can, and we asked for a spicier salsa, which was also from a can, so they suggested their homemade hot sauce, which was a funky science experiment at best, and the tacos burrito, etc. were absolute garbage, passionless waste of calories. Have some shame in what you're serving and charging, we were starving so we ate the best we could and tried to give it a chance but for three people our bill was over $105 which is criminal. The icing on the cake was my friend got violently ill shortly after, and was coming and going out of both ends, Taco Bell is fine dining compared to this place.

Yelp
Taqueria Corona has been around for at least 25 years and is such a local favorite. They are a bit under the radar, as hipster and trendy Mexican places like Juan's and Val's get a lot of attention. But Taqueria Corona consistently puts out delicious food at an amazing value. Grab a window seat and you can people watch on Magazine Street. You can't go wrong with any of the menu items. Service is always cheerful and attentive. Love this place!!

Yelp
If i could do 0 starts i would. food was terrible. the cheese enchiladas were microwaved and swimming in grease. rice and beans were gross, the beans were flat and had a film on top i could run my finger on top and nothing would come off. service was terrible as well our waiter never checked on us he was instead at the counter on his phone the whole time. the only thing that was good was the water

Yelp
A new awning and a fresh paint job dresses up this 30+ year old "Mexican" neighborhood restaurant. This "old stand by" remains an excellent choice for "fresh mex" in what is now a crowded field of "Mexican" choices that have opened uptown in the last decade. A wide selection of tacos is on the menu, my favorites, carne asada and sautéed shrimp. The entrees are equally good with carne asada, shrimp flautas , or enchilada riviera as personal favorites. Margaritas are delicious made from quality tequila and fresh juices, lacking the pretentiousness/high price of so called artisanal tequila/mezcals found in some other newer dining choices. Staff is courteous and efficient, line cooks are visible to dining patrons, and the owner is usually in supervisory attendance making sure everyone has an excellent meal.

Yelp
Good food. good, friendly, attentive and quick service. great environment. Lots of fun. easily accessed on Magazine between Nashville and State. A nice break from downtown.

Yelp
Americanized Mexican food and not good at that. It's a shame, this place used to be great in the 90s.

Yelp
This is my absolutely favorite place for Mexican in NOLA. Period. Growing up I'd always order the Numbero Uno. You get a burritto, taco, flaunta (the most delicious thing you've ever consumed, cheesey fried goodness) AND rice and beans. It's enough for two meals, easy. The flaunta, I've never had anything like it anywhere else. Beef or Shrimp with cheese, deep fried and topped with a dolop of sour cream and gucaomole. Maybe kinda like a small chimmichanga. And the rice and beans, best in the city, hands down. That's what my old favorite was, my new favorite? The leunga tacos! Beef tongue. It's so flavorful and absolutely perfectly cooked. My mouth is watering just thinking about them. Also, the hot sauces! The green is rather mild, the red is hot, and the black is something else all together. Spicy, smoky, savory... ugggg it is SO DELICIOUS. I love the margaritas, the chips and salsa, everything. This place holds my heart!

Yelp
One word: CEBOLLITAS!!!! (grilled green onions) Seriously guys, please get these... They're the BEST. But what else should you know about Taqueria Corona? Well, it's your basic mexican-american place with a big selection of all different dishes. Feeling ravenous? I would recommend the California Burrito. Feeling classic? The grilled chicken quesadilla always satisfies. Feeling frisky, maybe a little wild? the " pizza " they have is very adventurous. Honorable mentions include the queso and enchiladas. Beyond all those recommendations, though, this is just a good-mood, no frills, family/ friend place to have a good time. Go here for margarita nights and the occasional reminder to thank God for the existence of cheese.

Yelp
This is one of those places that started off with a bad impression and we were never friends after that. I worked next door to the METAIRIE location and tried it a couple times but hated it. I honestly never gave the uptown location a shot, and maybe there's a difference? During quarantine, I've reached out to try a bunch of new places and I'm glad I did! I love fish tacos (maybe it's the CA in me)... ok well I just love tacos in general but a good fish taco is hard to come by. +1. First, I appreciate their taco menu selection. I need variety in my life. Most places offer the basics or a selection of 3 meats. This place has everything you could want! +1/-1. Fish taco discussion can be like a political debate. Ok maybe I'm a fish taco snob?? Their fish tacos are not made with tilapia or even catfish, the menu says red drum. But, the fish has a thick beer batter type coating that left me tasting all batter and no fish. The fish tacos aren't the best here, but their other options are delicious! I'll be going back.

Aaron A.

Yelp
I've been a customer since Taqueria's opening days... It's been over 30 years and I absolutely love the food and the folks that run and work in the place! The menu has changed very little over the years. The quality of the food and preparations are excellent. The pico de gallo is rich in flavor... The guacamole is delicious ... You must have the fried shrimp flauta which is crispy and melted cheese deliciousness and creama on top... There is no better fish taco in the city period... Cebolittas are awesome Taco salads are so flavorful and the crispy bowls are the bomb... Enchiladas with the hot melted cheese are incredible.... The list goes on The place is incredible and has been consistently wonderful for many many years!

Yelp
I had lunch here today for the first time in years, and I was a little underwhelmed. First off, it took forever to find s parking spot, and it was a rainy Thursday afternoon! Really? I was hangry to begin with, so tack on an additional 10 minutes of driving around with my mom and tween daughter in the car giving me driving directions and parking suggestions, and you have a live bomb in the driver's seat. Once we were greeted and seated the waiter took our order and our food came not too long after. Luckily they weren't very busy, and I wasn't forced to chew off my own arm. I ordered a fish taco, and an order of beans and rice. Their fish taco - at any of their locations - is my favorite taco IN THE WORLD. I was pretty disappointed today. The crust was mushy!!!!!! Aaaagh!!! After all of that driving around, listening to my mom and daughter tell me how to drive, just knowing that when my fish taco arrived it would all have been worth it, and all would be right with the world. NOT. Yep, the crust was mushy. Where was the crunchy, crispy goodness that was created to cradle the perfectly fried fish inside? Where???? As I said earlier, I was hangry - so I ate it. The tartar sauce was still amazingly tangy and delicious, and the cabbage was fresh and crunchy. It filled me up and I felt human again, but I just felt a little cheated. Just a tiny bit. Well, I'll definitely visit this location again someday, and when I do I'll be hoping for that crispy crust. This is not the end of my relationship with Uptown Taqueria Corona.

Yelp
This place was really good! Our server was great and food was really tasty! The margaritas were perfect, not too sweet

Yelp
A group of four of us stopped in on a Friday night after escaping a family dinner. I'm super thankful that Taqueria Corona wasn't packed and we were seated immediately. Unfortunately the service here is pretty horrendous. Our server didn't come back often and it took probably 15/20 to order and another 20 minutes before we got our food. The wait wouldn't have been long if we had chips and salsa but due to not getting any I can only assume there's a charge. We ordered almost every type of taco avalible. The tacos were great and definitely served as if you're in Mexico- sorry gringos there's no cheese or sour cream on top. We also ordered a vegetarian California burrito. I would've loved for more of an even amount of ingredients throughout the burrito. One side was mostly beans while the side we didn't finish had the rice. Overall I'm torn on if I would come back. The food was decent but the service was bad. As long as you have plenty of time and aren't in a rush this may be a good spot for you.

Yelp
Greeted when I walked into the door and seed it immediately. House Margarita was just perfect. Service was very good, both waitresses checked on me to verify how I liked my food. really loved the ribeye shaved tacos my only regret and this is on me that I did not order them on corn tortillas I ordered it on flour tortillas. Pico de gallo was great. ordered the queso as an appetizer probably should have ordered it with chorizo in it. Chips were light and crunchy and not greasy. Would definitely go back.

Yelp
Welp, I'm pretty sure I either have food poisoning or just a horrible reaction to cheap cheese. Since I can't tell which it is, I am going to stick with three stars. This restaurant is located in a busy area of Uptown, New Orleans, and even though you can find street parking, it does take some effort. While this is a pretty fashionable area of town, the streets are horrible and narrow. Even if you find parking, you may have lingering fears of someone taking off your mirror. The restaurant has very cheery decor, and I really liked the "shrine" behind the counter featuring the Chinese lucky cat, Blessed Mother, and Santa Muerte. I guess they wanted to have all their bases covered. Very New Orleans. The decor is where the fun stops. The wait staff if polite but not well trained or organized. It took us 30 minutes to get our food, and the restaurant wasn't even half full. The waitress initially brought us another table's food, and the waiter waited until my husband had to take a business call to take our order. The food was very bland. My food was nothing but cheese and a little shrimp. My husband's tacos were just meat. That's it. I really wouldn't recommend this place.

Yelp
best fish tacos, quesadillas, and enchiladas. Beans and rice are also delicious, a great place

Yelp
$2.75 for a cheese taco sums up my opinion of this place. Taqueria Corona has been around since pre-katrina, and I remember all of my private school girl friends raving about it when we were kids, but after living on the Westbank it leaves a lot to be desired. I agree with the previous statement on here that referred to it as "Taqueria Bell Corona" because it really came off as Americanized Mexican food, which has a time and place, but when I was in craving good authentic Mexican food it missed the mark. It's also overpriced, which comes with the Magazine St. territory. We both ordered the numero uno dinner entree which is one chicken soft taco, a chicken burrito, and beef, bean and cheese flauta topped with guacamole and sour cream. It also came with refried black beans and rice. It was a lot of food, but for over $10 couldn't really justify it. The food was good and the taco was good, but I was hoping for homemade corn tortillas and it tasted like grocery store flour tortillas. They were large tacos, but I still can't justify $4 for a single taco (unless you're Rum House & elaborate), when I can get amazing $1 tacos on the westbank with yummy homemade fresh grilled corn tortillas. Especially when I also get free chips and salsa with those places when you have to buy one batch for $3.50 here. Service was fast and refilled water when we needed it, but it was SUPER awkward when the waiter brought the check and kept shoving it at my husband even when I reached my hand out to take it from him. Even after he realized I put MY card down and paid, the waiter AGAIN shoved the check/receipt at my husband when he brought it back for the signature, and ended up sticking it on the table rather than handing it to me... Which came across as super awkward and sexist. Taqueria Corona definitely has a dedicated regular clientele, it's just not for me.

Yelp
This was the second of two widely separated visits here. Taquitos small, but very good. NO parking. Otherwise, an enjoyable afternoon snack visit. Authentic "Norteno" style menu.
google avatar

Sandra B.

Yelp
I am not the biggest fan of their food but will pick it up for my friend who has cancer and can eat this food when she is craving Latin food b/c it is "bland". The bean soup is decent. Add the grilled green onions to it to give it more flavor.
google avatar

Yelp
Don't believe the other reviewers. This restaurant has 20 + years operating on Magazine Street and is consistent each and every time we go here which now must be 100+ times over the last 19 The Carne Asada Tacos are wonderful, the Ribeye Quesadilla, and Fish Tacos are ordered by my family almost every meal. Numero Tres can feed a small army. The Cebolittas are a great appetizer. They have a nice Sunday brunch with tasty Bloody Mary's and Mimosas. We wish this family owned restaurant, non-franchised restaurant (which several other locations) 5 generations more of success.

Lupe O.

Yelp
I have been dining here for years, it was great to know that the restaurant made it through the hard times. Great Service, every plate is a different flavor of true Mexican cuisine. Located in a very nice part of NOLA. I highly recommend. Enjoy

Yelp
Hands down the best Mexican food in town. Their street tacos are excellent. I appreciate the bag for your buck you get here, and it's not for a lack of quality. You can tell the folks here take pride in the food they produce. This will forever be my go to for Mexican food
google avatar

Kelsey J.

Yelp
This place is by far one of the best Mexican restaurants in the city I've been to. Per the review before mine, it is Americanized Mexican, but I can promise you you're not going to find real Mexican food anywhere in NOLA. I got the chicken enchilada and chicken taco a la charge, plus their pico and queso fresco. The chicken seemed to be higher quality grilled chicken rather than just cheap shredded chicken. The queso was pretty tasty and so was the pico! Not puréed salsa but rather the whole pieces of tomato, yum. I will definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Of all the locations, this is my favorite. Mostly because it holds sweet memories with my love. The service is always super fast and always right. They are also very friendly. The one thing that I couldn't quite put into words about this place but I became obvious after I recently brought one of my daughters here. I caught her looking around constantly, pointing out new things and wondering who the multiple pics and paint were (Pancho Villa) , it was the general atmosphere. Its cozy. Homey. Cluttered and a big open space at the same time. It really is a great location. Parking is a bear. The restaurant is at a part of Magazine that doesnt allow parking in front because there is no room. Night time parking for women can be scary I am sure. The food I think has been covered well by others but I will say that it is consistantly awesome every time. I havent been on a off night ever. Crowded or dead empty inside, its always great
google avatar

Matilde A.

Yelp
Best bean soup ever...I think I am addicted! But beyond the soup, great tacos (tongue, chorizo, fish...and all your normal ones too) the menu is large enough not to get bored, of course I never would with my superb soup. Service is ok, tries to be friendly

Yelp
I love Taqueria Corona and have been loving it for years. They have the best fish tacos and shrimp flautas hands down. I have eaten many things from here and everything has been delicious. Don't listen to these poor reviews, they are probably looking for tex-mex. This is a true Mexican restaurant. The service may be wishy washy sometimes, depends on who's there but really, the food - SO GOOD. We like the Metairie location the best.
google avatar

Lindsay K.

Yelp
Great spot! Stopped in here for a late lunch yesterday. The portions were huge and food was good quality. I had the numero uno platter which included a beef flauta, chicken taco, and chicken/bean burrito, with a side of rice and beans. Everything was great and the whole thing was around $12! Good beer and drink selection too, and friendly service. Definitely worth a visit!

Yelp
Family Favorite My family has been frequenting Taqueria Corona since I was a child. The food is reasonably priced, authentic and delicious. They recently added some new options to their menu, including blackened shrimp tacos with a pineapple salsa. These tacos are not to be missed.

Yelp
Let me preface this by saying I'm from Dallas Texas where chips and salsa are free and the margarita are served in real cups. We came here to try it out because we heard nice things about it. We ordered the pitcher of margaritas for $17.50, thought it would be a great deal, it wasn't. It was the smallest pitcher in the history of pitchers and the glasses to pour the margaritas were as big as shot glasses. I think they didn't want to give us a regular glass because we would find out that the pitcher is only good for about two full cups of drink. The chips and salsa was $3.50. Where do they do that? Not in Dallas, and the salsa bowl was tiny, waaaaayyy more chips that salsa. Oh, and the happy hour is on Saturday 3-5, for $3.50 margaritas. You shouldn't come here and pay any more than that because the margarita cups are tiny. Didn't eat because I was so disappointed in the drinks..... The restaurant otherwise is clean. If you take a chance you may like it. But I couldn't get pass the small portions.
google avatar

Tyler Y.

Yelp
A great Mexican find in the neighborhood! We ordered the numero tres which was more than enough for two hungry people. We upgraded two tacos to tongue and carne asada ribeye. The star of the show was by far the carne asada deliciously served with a grilled green onion, on par with some of our favorites in Mexico. My wife enjoyed the chorizo taco but it was too heavy on pork flavor for me. The guacamole was solid and the jalapeno slaw was great and spicy, too! The rice and beans were great as well. We chose the shrimp flauta which was a nice combo of shrimp and cheese. The burrito was the weakest link, mostly beans and not much meat. Minus star for no free chips and salsa (which was heavy on the lime, almost like ceviche without the fish).

Tonya G.

Yelp
We stopped in here on a rainy Thursday night because we have heard great things about it from our friends. It was pretty empty. Our server was very nice. The margaritas were ok, but not great. The food was ok. I had the enchiladas, and they didn't have a lot of flavor. I was just on the fence with the entire experience. If I was in the neighborhood, and it was the closest place, then I would go back; otherwise, I would look for a new place to try.
google avatar

Cat C.

Yelp
Let me start off by saying that our server, Matilda, was great. Super sweet lady, she had to serve the whole restaurant by herself. Major props. But. The food. They were very helpful about substitutions with our meals, the portions were ginormous, and the food was semi-edible. If you were just coming here to drink, it's probably a great place. My family used to come here before hurricane Katrina, and the food quality has plummeted. Bottom line: great service, friendly staff, probably pretty good drinks. Don't expect a lot from the food.

Yelp
I live around the corner and haven't taken enough advantage! Taqueria Corona is a super cute and cozy restaurant. There aren't many places like this on Magazine, where you feel like you're eating dinner at home. They have an open kitchen and you can eat at the bar and watch the food being made. Get the guacamole to start. Simple and delicious. Chips are thin and crunchy, just the way I like it! I usually get the tacos. Fried fish tacos are my favorite! Not tiny either, two pieces of fish, great flavor. Two tacos easily fill me up. The burritos are MASSIVE. I'm pretty sure anyone who finishes one will be stuffed. Easily shared or taken home for left overs. I tried the tostada for the first time the other day. I really liked it. I love the crunch of the hard shell. The beans and sauce provided enough flavor and juiciness without making the tostada soggy. Don't forget to ask for the hot sauces! They'll bring you a rack of three to choose from. I've enjoyed everything I've had here, including the margaritas. Portions are generous in size and it's super affordable. I'll definitely be coming back!

Rachel J.

Yelp
These tacos were delicious! I was visiting the area for a conference, and a colleague in our group who lived in New Orleans previously recommended this restaurant - so glad she did! We were welcomed and seated very quickly. Everyone working here was very friendly, even though we realized later that we had arrived just before their closing time! A couple of folks at our table ordered gazpacho and American tacos and said they were delicious. I had a fish taco (which comes with breaded and fried fish) and a shrimp taco (sautéed shrimp) - both were excellent! Of note, all tacos come with flour tortillas. Although we did not sample them, we were told by a colleague that they also have great margaritas here. I also visited the bathroom, which was clean and nice. A great restaurant experience all around!

Yelp
What a fun place. Friendly, casual, festive (brightly painted, multi colored lights and muchas piñatas), good for groups (read: louuuuud!), Taqueria Corona is kind of just what you'd expect it should be and when you're looking to swig back a couple of margaritas, hot, salty chips and queso, you'd do well to do so here. Make sure you ask for the trio of hot sauces, too. I loved the chili paste/oil. So tasty when mixed in with the queso. Ditto for gut bombing burritos. The emphasis is on meaty things here from the usual (chicken, beef, fish) to the more adventurous (tongue, anyone?) It would be grand if they could add a spinach/mushroom option to the list, rather than the yawnsville "no meat" option (that is, just beans, rice, cheese, lettuce, tomato and guac, which inside the burrito becomes a bit of a bland, indistinguishable mush). As such, I will return for chips and drinks and forgo the "real food". That doesn't mean you should listen to me, as this probably only applies to vegetarians. My plea to Taqueria Corona: please think about giving us a bit more to choose from! I want to love you...

Yelp
Among the more unique Mexican places in the region, Taqueria Corona is a long tradition in our family. Back around 2000 when my third grader decided all he wanted for dinner were Taqueria Corona plain chicken tacos, I contributed greatly to the revenue stream of this business. The inevitable burn-out came along after a few months, and we gave up our regular gig on the stools at the corner of the bar. Jump forward to 2014. The menu is almost the same except for the prices. In the decade-plus interim since our several-times-a-week run, the prices sometimes seemed too high for what you got set in front of you. Times have caught up and now the prices are reasonable. (I hesitate to say this, as I don't want to cue a price hike.) The grilled meats and things are outstanding, charred just enough to remind you they're grilled, but still moist and delicious. The former third grader now comes in from the cold North looking for his new favorites, the carne asada tacos consisting of steak strips with cebollita (grilled onion) and the fish taco, a nice sized chunk of fried fish with finely shredded cabbage and a Thousand Island style sauce (i.e. a no-surprises fish taco, but well executed). The "things" beyond meat are pretty much limited to the cebollitas (grilled green onions). These are hit or miss for most people. The former third-grader and I like them, but everyone else considers them too greasy. To the current first-grader in our party, these flaccid, limp, cooked green onions are the antithesis of "food". The burritos are good, though not the signature item of food art that they have become at Juan's. i like the bean burrito as a side dish, with one of the trio outstanding salsas brought upon request. The black tar salsa (my name, not theirs) is a mix of dark charred peppers and chili oil with a distinctive cooked flavor. It's among the more unique tastes I've experienced at any Mexican place. Five stars for the unique flavors, drinks, atmosphere, choice of meats, and I'll admit that I think overall 3 star rating is simply too low. I'm not impressed with the salads, there isn't much for vegetarians, but for the dishes and features I like, Taqueria Corona does very well.

Yelp
I still sort of miss Taqueria circa 1990 when it was tinier, grittier & with a smaller menu. On the other hand, more choices and more tables and more drinks! I still think their black bean burrito is yummy. And I like both the fish and shrimp tacos (two separate items). The taco salad is more meh. And I wish they offered specials sometimes just to change stuff up. They do offer some kid friendly items like a cheese quesadilla or American taco. My uncle is a huge fan of their tongue taco (not for me thanks). And, yeah, the sangria is delicious. Service is usually speedy but you definitely aren't rushed. I like the open kitchen and that there is bar seating if you choose to eat alone.

Yelp
"Good not great" would be an accurate description. Had dinner here on the advice of a friend. I had NO CLUE this place even existed, but hey, Magazine St. is a long street! I really like the atmosphere of the restaurant. We were seated by a window so that we could look out as we ate and that was nice. I ordered the taco salad with chicken. It was okay. I liked that there were huge hunks of chicken in it, but there wasn't nearly enough of it. The salad also came with lettuce, black olives, cheese, sour cream and guacamole. Honestly, the shell was kind of stale but it wasn't terrible. I hear that the tacos are amazing, so I will be getting those if I go back. All in all, not as great as my beloved Felipe's, but still a valid spot if you are looking for quick Mexican food.

Yelp
Not the best Mexican ever, but solid good food in a funky building that has been there for almost 25 years. I think that says something about a place. I have been eating here since the 1980s!! The portions are reasonably sized in fact, some are too much, the California Burrito is HUGE and way too much for me, I usually stick to the tacos, I like the house salad, I absolutely LOVE the cebollitas (grilled green onions with salt & lime) and could eat a whole batch all by myself. The entree platters are more than I can manage to eat alone. Good food, great prices. Nothing wrong with that! They make their own margarita blend with fresh lime juice! YUM!

Yelp
This place is a bit different from your typical Tex-Mex joint and offers some things most of the other area Mexican type places don't as the Honduran owners put their own slightly different spin to some things. They have their "cebollitas" grilled green onion appetizer that is tasty. They offer the usual taco, burrito, and other options wrapped in some type of tortilla like most Mexican joints do. I usually opt for one of the entree platters to get a selection of several different things. This is one of the few places to offer beef tongue as a meat option to stuff your taco or other tortilla wrapped entity. This place does frequently get crowded and nearby parking is at a premium so it can be more challenging to get here than the usual restaurants in this area so if driving be prepared to park further away and walk a bit.

Yelp
Providing basically edible but in no way either good or Mexican food, this place seems to thrive only on account of margaritas and a clientele that isn't paying much attention to the multiple embarrassments clearly visible in its kitchen. It's a cuisine I'd really call Gringo-Mex, prepared with a palpable lack of care or freshness. For instance, although the menu loudly and implausibly assures you the tacos are "just like in Mexico," their tortillas come straight out of a bag, and the burritos are similarly wrapped in a stiff, dry, stale industrially produced flour tortilla. Orders involving any substitution or omissions seem to need to be sent back more often than not. And what's worse, many orders come straight out of the microwave ovens (at least 3 are clearly visible and constantly in use in the kitchen, so you can watch from your seat at the bar if you feel like having your taste insulted). Or I should say insulted again, after being charged three or four bucks for chips from a bag and "pico de gallo" that weirdly seems like it might be cooked or from a jar. And indeed, the total lack of care in the food here is palpable in every airport-Chipotle-quality bite. I can't fathom how this place has so many good reviews. It makes Panchita's or Macarena look like good restaurants, and that's not easy to do.

Yelp
Ok, I took off a star because like everyone says you have to pay for chips and salsa which is silly (which by the way I got the chips and FUNdido-basically queso and it was delicious!). Plus parking is a pain in the butt since it's street parking and right next to another restaurant. Don't laugh but I forget about coming here because it's such a pain trying to find a parking space. Anywho, like my tip said I had the chips and FUNdido dip, fish taco, shrimp taco, and a side order of beans and rice. The chips and FUNdido dip were delicious! I love me some queso! Now I used to live in L.A. so I've been to quite a few Mexican joints, and I quite enjoyed their fish taco! In fact, I liked it more than my shrimp taco! Surprising enough, the first time I had a fish taco was back in L.A. But I digress. The beans and rice were fine, not memorable. We had great service although I can't remember the waiter's name. The restaurant gets packed pretty quickly and they have a bar as soon as you come in. I like the fact that it's an open kitchen too. Happy Mexican eating!

Yelp
I cannot understand how this place only has 3.5 stars, this is the best mexican food in the city and they have the best fish tacos I've ever had! Sure, it's not fancy and there's no parking lot but the servers are kind and friendly, the large maragaritas are massive, and it's in a convenient location. Come on people, what's important? The minor stuff like fancy decorations or the FOOD?? You won't go broke, the portions are massive, and most importantly it's delicious food. This place literally gave me a mission: every time I visit any restaurant serving fish tacos I order some, just to confirm again and again that nowhere has the same perfect balance of crisp batter and flaky, tender fish with great slaw and sauce. Of course, they don't hold up well on delivery but NOTHING fried ever does! Do yourselves a favor; Go to Taqueria Corona, get cebollitas appetizer, the combo platter with 3 tacos and make sure at least one is a fish taco, and order a large maragarita. I promise, you will be more than satisfied (and probably a little drunk). 5 stars for one of my favorite restaurants, not just in the city, but in the world. p.s. its possible the lower star reviews are from before they offered blended maragaritas or had hot sauce at the tables, fear not - They have all that and more now!

Yelp
Walking in it is a pretty small place. We were greeted with warm smiles and friendly people. The doorway is extremely small. It was a bit hard trying to get a large party in and out. The woman's bathroom was clean but extremely small. The men's bathroom looked very royal though thanks to pics on here from other guests. We got queso and chips to share which was AMAZING. I highly recommend spending the $7 for that. I got the grilled chicken quesadilla. It came with a side of salsa, guacamole and sour cream. It was delicious! My hsuan do got the California burrito with rib-eye speciality made. It came out wrong the first time but they were quick to fix their mistake. Overall the food was delicious.

Yelp
I went yesterday and fell in love. So much so that I'm going back today (don't judge lol). The food is AMAZING. Nice, festive atmosphere and good service. I'm very picky about my Mexican food and this definitely tickled my fancy. I would definitely recommend it (and already have).

Yelp
Tonight we ventured out and decided to try Taqueira Corona as we have lived one street down for 6 months and have yet to try it so we thought there's no better time than tonight! Located on Magazine St between State St and Eleonore St, is the small Mexican themed restaurant/bar featuring a wide range of Mexican foods and drinks. The restaurant itself features only indoor seating with views of Magazine St with both tabled seating or seats lining the bar/kitchen area. We sat at the front to peer out the window. The restaurant is decorated very nicely, with flags, pinatas, inflatable Corona bottle and much more, there is plenty to see! We started our meal with a serving of "guacamole and chips". The guacamole was perfection and the chips were..well..chips. My only complaint about the appetizer is that the serving of guacamole wasn't enough to cater for the serving of the chips(see image I posted), the guacamole ran out too quickly compared to the chips, which was disappointing. For the main meal, I ordered the "Chicken Taco Pizza" which I had no idea what I was actually going to receive. Once it came out, I understood the name. It is literally a soft shell taco that's filled with whatever your ordering is, that's flat and covered in cheese. The chicken taco pizza came with chicken, beans, salsa, and cheese. It was quite nicely actually! The flavors of each ingredient mixed well together and was very filling indeed. Though I couldn't taste the salsa much at all and there was a bit too much cheese. The only downside I have is that there wasn't enough guacamole to cater for all the chips and the chicken taco pizza has a bit too much cheese. Overall, the meal was very satisfying. The chicken taco pizza is a definite like! I'd recommend getting that with the guacamole and chips as a starter. Definitely check it out if you're in the area!

Yelp
Not bad, but not the authentic Baja I was looking for. The shrimp taco just came with a sauce and the fish taco was a bit bland. I would go back because I did go near closing. The staff was very friendly.
