The california burrito was really good! The grilled onions actually made it one of the best california burritos I've had. Really nice owners running the place and a cute little restaurant.

Stepping into Taqueria Del Sol instantly transported me back to my childhood, like walking into my great-grandparents’ home out in the heart of Central California. There’s something about the warmth of the place, the friendly faces of the owner and his wife, and the aroma of truly authentic Mexican cuisine that just feels like home. The food itself is incredible—each bite is full of flavor and nostalgia, reminding me of family gatherings, laughter, and comfort. My wife got the chicken tamales, and I have to say—they are literally the best we’ve ever had, and we’ve tried so many options growing up in the Central Valley! Sitting there with an ocean view, it’s easy to lose yourself dreaming about life while refueling on meals made with heart and tradition. Beyond the food, the experience is what makes this place special. The owners genuinely care, and that energy permeates everything, from the service to the atmosphere. I would have added a photo, but an empty place doesn’t do it justice. If you’re looking for a spot that blends authenticity, comfort, and a touch of magic, Taqueria Del Sol is it.

We’re from out of town and have plenty of authentic Mexican restaurants where we are from, so we know good Mexican food when we taste it—and Del Sol absolutely impressed us. My husband ordered the mole, and I had the chicken tamales. Both were outstanding—rich, authentic flavors that instantly made this our new favorite Mexican restaurant. Even though we don’t live nearby, we’ll make a point to come back whenever we’re in the area. The owner was so kind and shared a bit of their story. He and his wife have been running Del Sol for 10 years, and all the recipes are hers. That love and care come through in every bite. My husband said it felt like eating at his great-grandparents’ house as a kid—warm, nostalgic, and full of flavor. If you’re craving true, authentic Mexican cuisine with a welcoming atmosphere, you can’t go wrong with Del Sol. Highly recommend! I wish I would have taken pictures of my food to share before I pulverized it. You’ll have to take my word for it.

Google
We were looking for tacos and this popped up in search. We ordered fish, chicken, and beef tacos. It was taco Tuesday, but we ordered from the menu because the waitress suggested the special tacos were small. We were surprised the tacos we received were small street tacos. They were very tasty. The cell service is terrible, but when we viewed reviews later we saw the special tacos were not smaller, they just had fried shells. We're glad we stopped, but next time we'll get the special.

Kayla

Google
Kind service, excellent food, lovely little outdoor picnic location. I thought my enchiladas suizas were phenomenal and really enjoyed the watermelon juice. I was told the fish tacos were also great. Order at the front and they’ll bring your food out to you at their cute set of picnic tables, some shady some sunny. Quick and easy ordering, delicious and satisfying eats. Will likely return before I leave!

Google
They only have take out (which can be eaten at one of the four park benches they have set up) during the pandemic. We had lunch. I had the carnitas plate ($16) and wife had the 3 spinach and cheese enchiladas ($15). Nearly every Mexican food restaurant I go to I order carnitas...so I've seen it prepared all sorts of ways. However, never this way (see photo). I get it, some people like to eat the fat, so I have no issue with leaving it on...but once I peeled away the fat and separated it from the meat there wasn't much there. The taste was rather OK. I would give the place 3 stars based on that, but wife enjoyed the enchiladas so I bumped to 4 stars. Didn't like the fact they charged $2 for chips and a small thing of salsa and $2 more for another salsa.

Joseph S.

Google
I lived in Texas 20 years, eating Mexican and Tex Mex food at least two times per week. This place has some of **the best** food I’ve ever had, especially for being out in on a highway in Northern California. Beef enchiladas had some of the best asada salsa I’ve ever had and the portions of meet used in both that and the quesadillas we ordered were more than most restaurants would serve. This place is not cheap, but worth every penny.

Kyndra M.

Google
Used to be my favorite, but the quality and portions have really gone down. I can't believe the meal I received today. $40 for 3 tacos and a quesadilla. I ordered quac, and got let than a tablespoon! I'm almost insulted by what I was served....
google avatar

Ott O.

Yelp
It's been almost 4 years and this place is just as good. Al Pastor may not be trompo style, but the seasoning Senora uses is amazing. The burrito I had was spectacular. Super flavorful, loaded with meat and bigger than expected. I'm not up here often, but will always make a point to stop by.
google avatar

Russell G.

Yelp
Everything! I ordered chili verde, the pork was so fatty, hunks of fat and horrible beans right out of a can with a weird taste I couldn't identify, the only edible thing was the rice. Even the flour tortillas were from the grocery store and all I know Is that I got sick to my stomach about 2 hours later. This place has no business being in business!
google avatar

Betty B.

Yelp
Tacos were decent. We ordered ten and when we asked for extra salsa they charged us for it. Also we seen the taco Tuesday sign so we though we would get a snack but as soon as we walked up they took the sign away but after stating that's why we came they gave us the tacos which we were appreciative. I would say the best thing there was the horchata all though I didn't get it til after we were done eating. The outdoor seating area was really nice too.
google avatar

Tapman R.

Yelp
Taqueria Del Sol staff were pleasant & delightful. The burritos we ordered were reasonably priced and BIG. My wife ordered carnitas and I had carne asada. I saw on an app that they were closed, that was the farthest thing from the truth. They were open and serving good Mexican food at reasonable prices. We enjoyed the experience.
google avatar

Bonnie D.

Yelp
Stopped by for tacos. I had chicken, my husband had enchiladas. The food was good enough, but not something I would rush back for. Probably should have ordered the Taco Tuesday tacos. The waitress said they were small crispy shell, so I went with the tacos off the menu. I was surprised to find they were also small street tacos. The service was good and food came quickly. The location is right in town. No view of the ocean.. just a parking lot and hotel rooms.
google avatar

E F.

Yelp
Basic food here, but done with acceptable quality and taste. Breakfast satisfying even on paper plates. Very nice folks. Did not try lunch or dinner. Some views. Reasonable prices.
google avatar

Yelp
I can't think of anything positive to say about this place other than it was within a short walk from our hotel. I got a quesadilla with Al pastor. The Al pastor was chunks of fat and gristle with the weirdest flavor, almost like harissa or maybe nutmeg? I'm not sure, but it was really bad. My husband got the chicken fajitas. They had very little flavor. In addition to that there was none of the usual accompaniments of sour cream, guacamole or pico. Everything about it was just a huge disappointment and the majority of it went into the trash. To top it off, they forgot our chips and salsa and when asked for it, they went behind the counter where they could not be seen and started laughing at our expense, most likely doing something nefarious to the chips. Total was $38.84...... no drinks, just those 3 items and it was really terrible.

Yelp
A hidden gem! Tucked in on the coast side of 101 in "downtown Gualala", Taqueria Del Sol is a welcome site. Sporting a shaded outdoor patio and indoor seating, this place offers cervasa and a delicious assortment of Mexican fare. We enjoyed the flautas. Crisp exterior, holding succulent and flavorful carnitas, with sides of guacamole, tomatillo sauce, and crema.

Rojelio B.

Yelp
Best in town , very authentic food , a hidden gem that should be more well known the service was great. The staff was kind
google avatar

Andy I.

Yelp
Great Camarones a la Diabla! Also Al Pastor & fish tacos. Very VERY tasty stuff. And nice people.
google avatar

Kimberly M.

Yelp
Order the chili verde and a carne asada burrito. The carne asada was chewy and grisly. The chile verde was boiled and foul. Not even smearing their chili verde salsa on it made it better. Paid an extra two bucks for a tiny bag of chips and salsa. $30 later I have to go out and get another dinner. I don't know who all these four and five star people are... This was not something I would feed my dog.

Doreen T.

Yelp
I want to give a public shout-out to Taqueria Del Sol for the amazing food they prepared for us. I needed to feed 80 people at a picnic in Sea Ranch and we are from out of town. It took a lot of faith for me to order all this food from a restaurant I have never eaten at before! They got the order correct with great portion size so we did not run out and the food was ready and packaged up at the pick up time. It was a delight doing business with them. A special thank you to Karina who helped me over the phone figure out what I needed. Gracias!

Yelp
Breakfast burritos with sausage are so good here! We came here twice in a row to get them on a long weekend trip. The horchata and mango-orange agua fresca were also delicious. There's outdoor picnic bench seating and you order at their walk-up window. I saw a restroom next door too, but didn't use it. My 21 month old toddler devoured so much breakfast burrito and agua Fresca when she normally only will eat two bites of a meal and demand snacks instead, so a five star review from her as well.

Sag P.

Yelp
Carnitas tacos were cubed chunks of pork--heavy on the fat and gristle--in a very odd-tasting sauce. Nothing marinated, nothing crispy. I had one and my dog had one. The border collie had no complaints. Their beans and rice did look good, however.
google avatar

Keith H.

Yelp
Had the chilequiles and they were excellent. Spicy. My wife had the breakfast burrito. Rather, she had part of one - it was huge. Also delicious.
google avatar

Yelp
After a long day of driving, we opted for some comfort Mexican food, yes kinda weird but we love Mexican food! I was on the wall whether to give this a 3 or 4 but I'm going to opt for 4 because I really did enjoy the food. Because of Covid, this is take out only but they do have several clean picnic tables available in their yard out front. The hubby had Chile rellenos and I had the cheese enchiladas. I will say both dishes were solid. The sauce on the rellenos was authentic and the chili's were fire roasted which gave them a great flavor. And the cheese enchiladas had to be the cheesiest I've ever had. We also enjoyed the rice and beans.... I judge a Mexican restaurant by the flavor of the refried beans and these were pretty darn good. I also judge a Mexican restaurant by the flavor of the salsa with the chips and unfortunately no chips or salsa because it was to go which was a bummer. The only disappointment was that the flour tortillas got hard pretty quickly. All in all a good meal!
google avatar

Kristie G.

Yelp
RUN, don't walk to this den of deliciousness. I have never until now had such tender and tasty chili verde. The sauce was tangy and the meat was perfectly cooked. Portions are generous and the staff is so friendly. My belly AND my wallet are happy.
google avatar

Nolan S.

Yelp
Out on the road during a road trip we passed through town and found this spot open for takeout. I picked up an al pastor burrito. I didn't think to ask for salsa and when we did ask the lady brought the salsa to the little picnic table outside which we were using. That was a very nice little gesture. I enjoyed the burrito. It came with beans and rice. Im more of a fan of bigger long grain rice myself but that's just me. Anyway, support local!
google avatar

Ali A.

Yelp
We wanted to like this place but after fatty pieces of meat in our pastor and the chicken tasting days old and dry we couldnt get passed that :( Service was very friendly, chips and salsa were good.

Yelp
Worst in every way. Amazed it is in business. Changed management and remained horrible. Sorry.

Yelp
The Worst Mexican Food I've ever had. Avoid This Place! I'm sad to post this, I love Gualala and most everyone I meet in this little town. I regularly go to the food court in the local supermarket. There is a little Mexican food place that offers salmon tacos, which are to die for. I've loved those salmon taco's for years. But the little place in the food court has been closed for some reason, So I decided to try the mexican food place across the street...And Lord.!! what a mistake! After proof Reading this .. I want to add this might have been a race thing, and was a bad experience meant for Only me. That might explain why this place was so awful I felt it fair to add this. You may get better service if you are of western European descent . OK.....so....Love Mexican food! and This place after all these years...is The worst Mexican Food Ive ever eaten !! Arrgh!! Spent about $25 on a casa dia and three tacos..do the math...that's an outrageous price for that even if it's Good! Everything is take out now because of the Covid thing..But .that's no excuse to gouge people and serve Fat and grease on a tortilla, That's just mean. After A third attempt to eat this God awful "Take out order " of Lunch from day before yesterday, (I hate to waste food even if it's bad, So it took me three days to finally shove this awful stuff down my throat) And I vascilated between reporting how bad and just blowing it off But,after three days, this Casa Dia made my stomach turn every time I tried to eat it...the most bland /Greasy Casa Dia I'd ever tried to eat. It felt antagonistic It was nothing but a cheese and pork fat with microscopic bits of actual meat . And the The Three Tacos, ordered (two chicken tacos ($3 each) and one fish taco)...the fish was 5 dollar a seemingly deep fried piece of fish the size of your thumb was as Dry as you can cook it!. the 8 tiny specs of chicken, that made up those tacos, looked so sad on their tiny corn tortilla! all three were half the size of a Regular Taco anywhere else! The only thing good was this tiny cup of guacamole, that was tasty. but much too small aportin to help this abusive food! The service was stand offish, and everything I ordered, gave me the impression they hated me, and wanted me to never come back !! That's how this order of food seems to me .. Horrible service Horrible food and HIGH priced !! NUTZ ! -------This is exactly where YELP.com comes in Handy..Thanks for allowing me to warn others driving through Gualala CA, to AVOID this place if you are not a family member of this business!.

Gretchen G.

Yelp
The food was great! We had the chicken fajitas, chicken tenders and fries, chimichanga and the burrito mojendo. Everything was very good! The guacamole was my favorite, probably the best I've had in a while!

Ashish G.

Yelp
Love the food. And that it's open on a Sunday evening at 6 pm. Had a refreshing glass of melon carrot water. The guacamole was fresh and zesty and so was the salsa. We had a carnitas burrito and a veg taco bowl. Both were great. They have a nice outside sitting area.

Yelp
TAQUERIA DEL SOL is the worst place to eat in Gualala, California. I feel sorry for the people that operate this restaurant and I feel sorry for myself for eating at TAQUERIA DEL SOL. I ordered carnitas and all I got was sliced roasted pork with the usual side dish of beans, rice and some onion laced lettuce/guacamole. Don't forget the corn tortillas. The portions were very small and the price was $15. My guest had the shrimp with onions, green and red peppers steaming hot served on a black frying pan. The price was over $19. Soft drinks are $3. each and no alcohol is served. This rat hole is too dam expensive and the only Mexican food place in town open on Sundays when Antonios Tacos is closed. Antonios Tacos is a much better Mexican food restaurant. Gualala is a dying tourist town mostly serving people living in Sea Ranch and surround small communities. Gualala thrives during the summer months.

Yelp
my wife and our friends stayed in Gualala for the weekend and found this little spot on yelp. The staff here are super friendly people. Its a small place but it's kept very clean. I especially like the owners(?) posting of their kids artwork. On to the food... We ordered a shrimp burrito, chimchanga, enchiladas, and nacho fries. The shrimp in the shrimp burrito was cooked to perfection The chimchanga my wife got was pork. it was really good. although there was sauce on it, the burrito still kept its crispy exterior. The enchiladas was very good also. it comes 3 in an order. i tried chicken ,beef and pork. i liked all 3 but especially liked the beef. i think mainly cuz i am a fan of beef in general. i think the real winner were nacho fries. the cheese they used was not the "out of the can" nacho sauce. it was with REAL cheese. the fries they chose for this dish was a great, it complemented the other ingrediants very well. the portion for everything we got were HUGE! if we ever stay in Gualala again we are definitely stopping by here.

Phoebe C.

Yelp
The food is so bad. I hate to say it cause I had really high hopes when I say the 99 cent taco Tuesday sign. But it was pretty much you get exactly what you pay for the worse and absolutely terrible taco you will possibly ever have! Basically tortilla chips with some meat and lettuce.
google avatar

Abigail M.

Yelp
Nice outdoor seating. Fairly clean place. Menu is a bit pricey for what you actually get. Chips are not really good. But overall it was a good enough taco.
google avatar

Nate R.

Yelp
I wasn't expecting a lot when we pulled up to order, but we were all very pleasantly surprised by the quality and taste of the food. I had a burrito, and it was quite good.
google avatar

Vivian L.

Yelp
Husband and I stopped by and got 2 shrimp burritos. $18/each. It didn't have rice or beans, just orange sauce, shrimp, and some fresh salsa. Kind of ok but I don't think we'd come back.
google avatar

Kim T.

Yelp
The place is very tiny, but accommodated our family party of 9 easily as there was no crowd. The service was really good, and the employees very friendly. But the food was lackluster. Underspiced with strange textures. The meat in the chicken fajitas was mealy as if frozen for a long time. The carnitas had no flavor at all. The star of the meal was the cheese quesadilla that our 6 year old grandson devoured. We were disappointed.
google avatar

Jennifer S.

Yelp
I hadn't been here in years. Thought we'd give it another try and everything was great! My only negative is that they need to post a current menu somewhere. There were a lot more options than I could see online.
google avatar

David R.

Yelp
We had an excellent breakfast here. My wife had a "Breakfast plate", which was just bacon, eggs, hash browns, and toast, while I had a breakfast burrito. The owner saw my wife shaking the Tapatio bottle while waiting for our food, and he brought over a dish of their home made hot sauce. Delicious! The breakfast burrito was great and huge. Their coffee was very, very good. The hosts are charming.
google avatar

Mark O.

Yelp
This is a truly wonderful family-run business. This is among the best Mexican food I'm tasted, and I live on the edge of San Francisco's Mission district! Not fancy, but friendly service, affordable, and (most importantly) DELICIOUS food! My favorite chile relleno anywhere.
google avatar

Gray S.

Yelp
Was open on a Monday contrary to what Yelps says, and the food was excellent. Affordable, tasty, authentic, good size portions. We shared the pork tamales and the carne asada plate. Both were great. Great hot salsa at the salsa bar too. My celiac fiancée was happy with the gluten-free options (almost everything.) This is a great choice in Gualala. Very glad we picked this over the pricey bar food across the street.
google avatar

Maus M.

Yelp
Came here for lunch on a Friday. Like everyone else says, not a lot of choices up Hwy 1. The guy was really nice and the food was presented well and was served in about 15 minutes. However, that was the best of the experience. The chips tasted old. Had to be smothered in salsa to be edible. The tostada was tiny, a little scoop of guacamole on top for extra $, so not worth it. The tiny bits of chicken were few and I do mean tiny-perfect size kibble for my cat. The burrito was the same and 70% rice. The worst part was there was absolutely no flavor. We decided to not eat after several bites and because we were hungry, we left and drove down the 1 to Stewart's Point and ate at 2 Fish. Great breakfasts, lunch Sanwiches and snacks. If you really crave Mexican food, continue up Hwy 1 to Point Arena. Gualala' food choices have become nil since they lost Bone's, then Shoreline. If you are eating in Gualala, go to Trinks!
google avatar

Tom H.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I ate here on December 30th, 2018. The staff was friendly (appeared to be a family-run place). We are not picky people and usually easy to please, but I have to admit the food was mediocre at best (she had a burrito, I had the flautas). The main reason I'm leaving this review is because I got VIOLENTLY SICK from this meal and was up all night on the floor of the bathroom. You've been warned.
google avatar

Phil L.

Yelp
We decided to try this place and, sadly, were very disappointed. My wife had the carnitas and a fish taco; I had the chile relleno and a quesadilla. Everything was bland and weird. The carnitas were actually slices of pork shoulder chops, dry with very little flavor. My chile relleno was floating in liquid, soggy and bland. The fish taco was significantly worse than Del Taco's. To make matters worse, dinner was $45! Down the block, at the Sundstrom Mall, there is a MUCH, MUCH better Mexican restaurant. We will not be coming back here.
google avatar

Alissa B.

Yelp
The only thing nicer than the food was the unbelievably kind owners and staff. We had a birthday party for my daughter there and everything was just amazing! I wish I lived closer so I could come back more often. I had the enchiladas plate and oh my was it delicious!! The beans and rice were fabulous. The red sauce and enchilada were perfect. Great prices too.
google avatar

Steve G.

Yelp
Back again. Confirmed as my favorite Mexican in the state of CA! I do wish they stayed open later in the evening, but otherwise this place is legit..

Helen O.

Yelp
Today we ordered Chili Rellenos for my husband and cheese enchiladas for me to bring home for our Sunday lunch. Their entrees were delicious and their refried beans are now my all-time favorite. My husband finished his off, but I'm saving half my enchiladas for later. Great friendly and fast service!
google avatar

Craig M.

Yelp
Good little mexican food joint. Family owned and operated. I normally would not order a hamburger at a mexican food restaurant but this place makes the best hamburger in Gualala! Give it a try!
google avatar

Jessica J.

Yelp
My husband and I were making our way up the coast to Mendocino but got hungry on the way and passed by this taqueria on Hwy 1. We stopped in and shared a plate of carnitas taquitos. They take credit card and give you a basket of chips and salsa while you wait. The taquitos came out quick and hot and were delicious, and we're no strangers to Mexican food. They also have a salsa bar where you have a choice of red, green salsas or pico de gallo and jalapeños. If you're looking for a decent Mexican meal around this part of Cali, this a good place to visit.
google avatar

Bob C.

Yelp
Beautiful people Beautiful food. What a treasure we found here on our journey up the pch. Highly recommend eating here and enjoying some of their homemade sauces and authentic dishes.
google avatar

Sarah D.

Yelp
This is the best place for Mexican on the coast. Small family run business that serves great food. Everything on the menu is delicious and flavorful and definitely not your typical Americanized Mexican. Restaurant is clean and comfortable and comes with a great ocean view.
google avatar

Chelsea C.

Yelp
Go here for the breakfast burritos! We will be back next time we're visiting Sea Ranch. So good!
google avatar

Karen H.

Yelp
Decided to try this place based on ratings, however, upon walking in the place reeked of old grease. Floors were dirty. Decided we didn't want a big cup of food poisoning, so we left without ordering.

J s.

Yelp
Visited Gualala for the first time in a while and came to town with empty stomachs. This stop for dinner made our weekend. Very good food served quickly, Huevos Rancheros were very good. And amazing scones.
google avatar

Samia K.

Yelp
This place should really have more reviews and more stars. The guy working there was really nice, and even offered to make us the breakfast specials for dinner if we were in the mood. Some soccer game was on and we chomped on free chips and salsa first until the food quickly came out. Had the chills relleno plate and I was only not licking the plate clean because my boyfriend was watching. Tasty AF and so nice.
google avatar

Cathy O.

Yelp
The food was good. When I ordered the older women took my order she was very nice, I asked if it was ok that I send my boys over to pick up the order and pay with my debit card she said YES no problem. Shortly after my boys went to get the food one of them came back saying they need you to come over there. I walked in and the younger of the 2 ladies said is this your card (rudely) I said yes she said you have to sign I told her I asked if my boys could use my card and the other lady said it was fine. She rudely replied " I wasn't here." Needless to say after spending $58.00 I will not return.
