The 21 Best Restaurants In Palo Alto

"Taqueria El Grullense M&G is part of a group of similarly named taquerias across the Peninsula that are all owned and operated by the same extended family. This small location is Palo Alto’s version, and it’s the best taqueria within city limits. The menu is long and all of the meats are tender, but the differentiating factor is their salsa—specifically, the fresh green tomatillo with a tangy kick and the ever-so-slightest hint of smokiness. Douse your tacos in plenty of it. They’re open from 8am to 11pm, seven days a week, so you can get your asada all day long. " - julia chen 1, ricky rodriguez

Delicious, authentic, and cheap Mexican food! Service was impeccable and fast with free parking available nearby. The carnitas were some of the best I've had.

5 stars Meaty Fries, 3 stars chicken super burrito. Five stars for the carne asada nacho fries—absolutely god-tier and the closest thing to Southern California-style fries I’ve had, maybe even better than a lot of SoCal spots I’ve tried. The fries were hot, super crispy, and perfectly cooked. I did notice some liquid in the carne asada, which makes me think they might boil the meat, but I’d need to try it in a taco or burrito to confirm. Two types of cheese processed nacho cheese and melted real cheese. Despite being drenched in sour cream, these were easily the best “SoCal-style” nacho fries I’ve ever had. As for the chicken burrito, it’s a solid three stars—pretty average. The pollo asado chicken was heavy on the black pepper, and the beans and rice were nothing out of the ordinary. It was also overloaded with sour cream, which made it feel a bit too heavy.

Needed to pick up breakfast on the way to work but it want open at 8. Ended up ordering and getting it 20 minutes later. Good everything was fresh, huge serving and friendly staff. Tastes great cold the next day so I really don't complain. But I need breakfast early! Not the greatest pic, but trying to show it's a huge portion. Ooohhh and don't bother giving cold chips with breakfast.

It has been a while since we have eaten here. My brother ordered his usual carnitas plate, I ordered chile relleno a la carte and an elote. The carnitas were a little salty but with rice, salad and beans balanced it out. The chile relleno was big, I was glad I did not get the plate with rice and beans. The corn was nice, a little sour, the cotija is usually the flavor that I like to taste. Service is nice and efficient. Tried tripas tacos, chewy but tasty. Came with salsa and pickled carrots and beets along with chips. My brother got a carnitas burrito. Tasty as well but he could not finish it all. Not too salty this time.

absolutely disgusting. im sorry they served me a moldy elote MOLDY. i paid like 8$ for it. my friend got an elote too and it was sour like both items had gone bad and they still served us. older woman at the cash with the WORST attitude and got mad that we wanted our money back because it ruined our appetite. we gave them the moldy items and they were laughing it was so disrespectful. older woman didnt knew i spoke spanish and was talking about us in front of us. horrible experience. if some items are moldy then you can only expect almost anything could be made with rotten ingredients. got my money back but theres no way im going back. mediocre quesadilla too what a disappointment. dont recommend this place at all. do not visit this place if you value your health. they need a health inspector visit.

This was my third time here and I won't give them another opportunity. At 10am I ordered 2 breakfast burritos and was told they were out of potatos. A few minutes after ordering I see the flat grill full of potatoes being cooked. When I asked why she told me they were out she explained, they're not out of potato it just costs $2 extra per burrito. What? Why? The menu says, "potato, egg, cheese and choice of meat" so an upcharge at that point is dishonest and feels very underhanded. So I obviously wasn't going to pay $17 for a breakfast burrito after that so I just stuck with rice. Well that's exactly what I got... 2 rice burritos. The attached pictures are of my burrito at 1/3 eaten and then again at 2/3 eaten. 95% rice. I never tasted chorizo, never came across cheese and barely saw a tiny bit of egg. My other visits to this location had similar problems. I'll add: the tacos are pathetic here. ZERO value for the money in my opinion.

The dude told me all about Taqueria El Grullense Restaurant, he said if you're looking for the best breakfast burrito in the world go to Taqueria El Grullense! The Chorizo is very good, but get the bacon and ask for extra bacon...It was Bombtasticly Taquerialishous! 5 stars ☆☆☆☆☆

The carnitas tacos was fantastic! Pork tamale was underwhelming, a bit dry, but saved by the accompanying sauce. Quality rice and beans side, with the refried black beans having deep flavor & nicely garnished with cotija.. I will be back forsure for more carnitas & will try some of their seafood options too.
