It's been a while since my last review, but I had to write this one...
The first time I came here 4-6 months ago, it was great! Food was authentic and full of flavor. Best of all it was super affordable. I either got really lucky this day, or there is a serious difference between their day and night cook staff, or there was a full kitchen staff change, because I never got that experience again. (this may be the only reason I dont give it one star, and that is being super kind imo.)
The second time I came was at night, maybe 9PM, had to wait 25mins for 8 tacos, tacos shells were limp, meat (pastor) was chewy (no crispy edges anywhere) like microwaved meat... and way less flavorful, and overall dry and sub-par. Id say a C+ grade that day at best. Not. Good.
This last time, was the end for me... just awful, I called 20mins ahead as not to wait, and they NEVER put in my order, then took it again, so I waited 45mins total. Same gross pastor tacos, low flavor, chewy meat (microwaved?, there is seriously no authentic color, complex taste, or texture about this pastor. zero.) ... Then, worst of all, my tripas burrito (aka fried tripe, a speciality meat, but a common ingredient at any real taqueria) was cold/grey inside, and vastly undercooked. This is maybe the worst way you could eat this protein. Gross. Just Fcuking Awful. Not edible, and yes, expensive as meat choices go.
I had super high hopes for this place since I came from CA, where taco trucks rule supreme, and really needed to satisfy this craving; but this place is a failure.
You HAVE TO properly cook meat. You have to. You can make people sick like this, easily. It's just not acceptable. It's not about difference in taste opinions, THIS issue, is about safety.
THEN train your cooks to make food taste and feel "authentic Mexican" if that's really going to be your slogan. Because, sorry, it's not. I want to believe that your day cook is legit, whoever that is... maybe they're the owner?, regardless... make that your standard; and if this one cook is gone? or it was a fluke? Find one. FAST!
You're a taco spot. You have to make GOOD tacos to survive. ESPECIALLY now when take out is key, and people are more choosey than ever where and how much they spend on everything. Start there. and P.S. cook the meat before you serve it. and if you get a call-in order? enter it BEFORE customers come. I know, mind blowing idea right? Godspeed.
