Night Owl Cookies Debuts in the Design District, and More New Restaurant Openings | Eater Miami

"This MIMO institution—holding one of Miami-Dade’s longest-running liquor licenses—has new ownership and expanded food options, including El Toro, a taco truck that pays homage to the Anderson’s original name and serves eight kinds of tacos (including vegan and vegetarian options), salsas, Mexican corn sides, churros and boozy cold paletas." - Olee Fowler

I ordered five pork tacos and two jalapeños. The pork tacos were dry and burnt, and I had a hard time swallowing them. 1/5 The jalapeños were okay 2/5 Also the food truck is not very good ether. Overall Rating: 1/5

My friends and I went to this restaurant late night. There were 4 of us that had tacos and aguas frescas. When we got the bill they were trying to charge us $110 for our tacos. $110!!! They have absolutely no shame!! I made the lady list out exactly what she was charging me which came out to $45.50. Without tax and without tip. On the receipt on the right they itemize everything then sneak in a tip ($14 in my case which they don’t tell you is a tip) then they double the total on their register. They are robbing our community to our faces. I’ve had this happen multiple times but didn’t gather proof until now when our bill was extremely excessive for tacos. I will be sharing this on every platform until they stop robbing their customers and provide proof.

I have been visiting the Taqueria El Toro truck on 51st and Oklahoma for a long time now. I kept meaning to try the actual restaurant. I heard they have the stuffed baked potato and have been dying to have it in my belly. My wife and I finally got the chance to visit tonight! The excitement and anticipation were tormenting my taste buds! First of all I am a born and raised Milwaukeean and I have to tell you Mitchell street is not the same as the 90s. That didn't stop me because I am all for supporting local and had to go! The outside of the restaurant is well lit and very easy to find. The dining room is very big and could accommodate a large group. There is a full bar. We went late on Sunday so there were not too many people there. The waitress was super friendly and kind. She only spoke Spanish but that's okay because, welll I am Mexican and I speak Spanish. She allowed us to pick any table. There was music playing at the bar and filled the dining area also. The music was not super loud so that I couldn't hear my wife but just perfect to create a good atmosphere. The menu is in full Spanish so if you don't know Spanish make sure you have Google Translate! If you know what you typically like at a Mexican restaurant you won't have any issue. We ordered two stuffed baked potatoes with Arrachera ( skirt steak) and cheese. Two pastor tacos and 2 barbacoa tacos. The barbacoa tacos are made of slow cooker goat meat. Don't knock them until you try. My dad used to make goat so I wasn't scared. They were juicy, tender and full of flavor! I absolutely recommend! The pastor tacos are made on a gyro style trumpet and shaved off. Served marinaded and with pineapple! Yum yum yum yum yum! They serve with lemons since all the limes lately have been dry! Now to the baked potato, it was baked very well and to perfect softness. It was opened and stuffed with chopped Arrachera meat and cheese. It was really good but I did feel it was missing something. Haven't figured it out yet. Using a tortilla I put the potatoe, steak and cheese pieces on it. A little guacamole and salsa and it was delish! Anyway you guys just need to visit. Don't stick just to the touristy, trendy and we'll known places and try local small restaurants!

I can recommend the Chorizo Tortas for weekday lunch. Not too spicy. Took half home for dinner. Loved the restaurant decor.

My husband and I had lunch with my parents while visiting family in Milwaukee and Taqueria El Toro was a short walk. There was no wait time, they have lots of tables, the food is fresh and pretty authentic. The wait time for our lunch was not too bad. We ordered quite a bit of food to try out, total tab for four people was reasonable about $100.00. The server we had only seemed to speak Spanish but we were okay communicating, not sure about the other staff. We tried queso fundido with chorizo, various tacos and torta and quesadilla plates with horchata, Mexican beer and tequila. The restaurant and bathrooms were clean.

Google
Only getting 3 stars for the food & salsa. Margaritas horrible tastes like a smoothie spiked it with tequila didn’t make a difference. The last time I went just for food the vibe and service was totally off like they didn’t even want our business. Just sad🤷🏽‍♀️

Google
Great little takeout restaurant on 84th and Lincoln in Stallis. Outdoor dining or takeout only. Usually has a good amount of people in line but it moves fast. Friendly staff. Delicious food.

Google
Was charged $120 for a bill that (based on the prices of their own menu) should have come to no more than $80. Straight robbery. Needless to say will never come back again.

Yelp
Stopped by after a Brewers game and it didn't disappoint. The food was cooked well and we didn't wait long to be attended. Diner could use abit upgrade, also i dont think they had a/c on but the tacos were good size and filling definitely worth trying. They also have slot machines in separate area for anyone 21+. The service was good and waiters were friendly and kept checking up on us.

Yelp
Open late. Fast. Authentic As good as any tacos from LA If you want better you'll have to go to Mexico ‍

Yelp
I was craving tacos and while there are many many places here, I was recommended this place by a friend. I am reviewing as someone who does not eat a lot of Mexican food/unfamiliar with prices BUT I do know if I enjoy the food or not. Service felt fine and our server was nice and attentive. I don't expect much from small local shops. We ordered 4 tacos (2 lengua and 2 carne asada) and then the El toro special plate. Everything was great! Compared to places I would normally go to, I felt like the prices were fair. 4 tacos were about $12.

Yelp
Excellent authentic Mexican food with large portions ,professional, polite, and accommodating service with bilingual staff, with delightful Mexican decor. Awesome bar is separate from the dining and has seven flat screens to watch your favorites and both Mexican and American beers and alcohol as well as soda.Terrifc portions at a decent price. Plenty of drinks to choose from!

Yelp
Really great tasting delicious Mexican food. They have the Mexican version and the American versions to order from. The tacos are on point, the burritos are even better. I've had 1 issue with the food but they fixed it for another day and it was much better so they'll keep their word with you. They have both green and red salsa (not hot sauce). Order ahead from the restaurant or from the truck to have your food ready upon arrival. I order from them on the regular.

Yelp
They made a mistake but they fixed it and they were very nice about it I will be back best taco place

Frona L.

Yelp
Meat in the tacos was dry, no flavor. The cheese in the nachos was generic can cheese and the steak was dried up.

Yelp
Delicious food, fast service! I like their tacos al pastor and chicken quesadillas. Their in-house salsas are delicious, too!

Yelp
I found the truck in front of discount liquor around noon so since I'm trying to stop at every new food that I have not been to I stopped. The menu has all the standard Mexican items but I thought I would do a couple street tacos because I was not super hungry for a big lunch. I ordered the steak and Al Pastor tacos with cilantro and onions that were ready pretty quick, probably the quickest of any taco truck. I tried a piece of each meat first to get an idea of how the meat taste. The steak was good but not very exciting and the Al Pastor was the winner today with a tasty sweet flavor. The tacos were tasty on warm corn tortillas but I thought that they were small was my first impression. The Al Pastor taco with cilantro and onions was definitely the winner today over the steak. The bottom line is that if I was shopping the liquor store and the truck was out I would definitely try more of the menu.

Yelp
Ate at the restaurant on Mitchell. Food was delicious! Had the burrito, tacos and quesadilla. Chips came with 3 salsas - all very good. Downside was the menu is in Spanish & waitstaff spoke limited English. And didn't tell us you have to walk to the counter to get the bill. I'm will definitely go back!

Yelp
Today I went for lunch with a friend and the tacos are always good, I ordered a consome de chivo, and it was the worst I've ever had no meat and no flavor y les di 2 estrellas por los tacos. si ya no hay Caldo mejor digan ya no ay. Pura agua esa madre

Yelp
Pastor Tacos are amazing. Walked up and there was one person in front of me. Everything was prepared and ready to go in less than 5 minutes. I took mine to go. Neatly packed with lime and two different kinds of salsa. Again the pastor really impressed me.

Yelp
For what it is, this place is amazing! After a night drinking at Bryant's, we needed tacos, so we ended up walking a few blocks to Taqueria El Toro. I ended up getting the mediana al pastor quesadilla. It was massive! If you're just looking for a drunk snack, I recommend the small. The al pastor was so tasty, and the whole plate was very greasy and cheesy and delicious. They bring you out chips and three salsas, which is great! The waitress was so nice (although be prepared to speak Spanish), and it was so cheap! Overall, perfect drunk food!

Yelp
The El Toro truck off of Oklahoma has been parked here for a few months so thought I'd give the tacos a shot. I will say that they did not disappoint. We ordered chicken, chorizo, and pastor tacos. The tortillas were soft and warm, the green salsa had fantastic flavors and was mild while the red salsa had a little more heat but still flavorful. My wife said her chicken and chorizo tacos were the best she's ever had. I ordered the pastor and the sweetness of the pineapple paired with the spice of the pork was an awesome combo of flavors, add the salsa and lime they provide and the flavors really pop. The pastor had a 10 minute wait, and I must say it was well worth it. If ever near discount liquor or El Rey give this place a try. Very nice people with fresh ingredients.

Yelp
Horrible service ! And the prices are crazy. Not only that the Mexican waitress would just laugh and be rude and speak in Spanish. Ma'am I'm Mexican . I understand. Never coming back again

Yelp
The location on 84th street overcharges. Why don't they have prices listed for everything. We were overcharged by $5. They also don't give you a receipt. We've patronized this business since they opened but won't be if we continue getting ripped off.

Yelp
El Toro consistently hits ya with the most bomb tacos on this side of the Mississippi

Yelp
If I could give this place 6 stars I would. The most authentic tacos in Milwaukee. Great deals and great service. Catch me there tomorrow.
