Taqueria Guadalajara Review - Excelsior - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Fast service, a no-nonsense vibe, and balanced burritos with flavorful meats are reasons enough to head to Taqueria Guadalajara. The Excelsior spot (located across the street from El Farolito) holds its own with excellent burritos that never let us down. They have several styles here (vegetarian, shrimp, wet, and ranchero with onions, cilantro, and special salsa), plus a great array of proteins, including lengua, cabeza, and tripas. We love ordering the super carne asada, but you can't go wrong with whatever you get. " - Lani Conway

Google
I never been here to this place, skeptical about a Mexican/ sushi bar restraunt, I ordered the chicharone papusa, under 10 dollars for 2, actually better than I thought they would be, pretty large ,tasty, cheesy, came.with Cole slaw and tomato sauce, good combo. I have had better, however, these were pretty good. I'll have to try again, maybe with more time.

Google
Astronomical prices and my food is falling apart and soggy. Definitely the worst taqueria ive ever been to

Google
Mediocre food, insane prices. Almost $17 for a regular burrito, that tastes less than regular. Would not recommend

Google
The breakfast burritos are really good! I got egg, chorizo, and beans. 😋

Google
I had two tacos that were quite good and a soup to go. $24 seemed pretty pricey just for that. Next time I would ask the total before confirming my order.

Alex Mehrer

Google
The tacos came out sitting in a puddle of juice, so the outer tortillas were super soggy. Still, the flavors and texture of the meats were good, pickled carrot & grilled chili were tasty. Overall solid. Maybe they'll be less wet next time.

Google
This is not a review about food. It's a review about service. If your Mexican or White, you get excited excellent service. All other nationalities, you'll get the cold shoulder and an attitude from the workers that says you don't belong there. I hope the owners and employees of this establishment is reading this. You won't go out of business because I take away my business. But if enough people begin to feel the same way I feel, eventually you will. There's 1000 other local eateries that I can choose to eat from. Fix your customer service.

Google
A definite hole in the wall, drunks hanging around. Normally they are very kind though. Food is good but location so close to garbage area and as part of the store it makes it seem like a area they use their expired wares in. Good food sometimes though

Yelp
This place is just OK. Tacos were greasy and didn't taste great. I would not recommend since theres better options out there.

Yelp
I love this place. Awesome street tacos, super convenient - nice people that work there. Great Horchata as well

Yelp
really bad food, we ordered carne asada plate and tacos, I couldn't eat the rice, it had an awful flavor, the meat was hard to chew and had an old taste, and not to mention the tacos of four different meats that had no flavor at all. the only good experience was the cashier that was nice and helpful.

Yelp
Convenient, because it's walking distance from my house, but I'm going to stop going for a while, because the price is not worth the portions (for tacos). There's hardly any meat in the taco for $3 each (see picture). I had the quesadilla yesterday and it was like 13 bucks, which I guess is cool and that was tasty at least......but maybe I'll try it again in a month to see if anything changes lol.

Yelp
They cleaned tables and open the restroom door for someone and went strait ti make my food . Did not wash their hands. They've gotten my order wrong twice and when I said something the woman was extremely rude and gave an attitude. The few times I've visited this place they've been extremely unfriendly . Not giving the benefit of the doubt any more. There just extremely rude with bad service and over priced greasy food . The food is not good at all just convenient due to the location . Never going again . Suggest you don't either , there extremely dirty and you will get sick . Just FYI

Yelp
First time here and WORST COSTUMER SERVICE EVER, the place was empty and they took almost 30min for 2 tacos, I asked the lady for no onion or cilantro and they just ignored me, when I told them my order was wrong the lady yelled at me that it was my fault because I didn't tell her and finally she starting talking bad things about me with a costumer, really bad experience never coming back.

Yelp
Great tacos, lots of locals eat here. Super friendly staff and really fast. Definitely recommend getting the tripa(small intestine). Theyre deep fried and crispy and extremely delicious.

Yelp
This taqueria is only 3 blocks away from my house. I don't go here too often because it's usually jam packed during lunch time and there's heavy traffic to get from one side of Willow Road to the other. But when I do have time, I stop by and endulge in the authentic Mexican food they serve. This is a small taqueria with not much room to dine in. I'd recommend to take your order to go. There's no decorations that stand out, they pretty much pride themselves in making great food. It's right next door to a market. That's convenient for those that want to do some light shopping while waiting for the food to be made. Parking is limited. They share the parking lot with the market next door, I believe there's about 15-20 parking stalls altogether. Today I ordered a beef super burrito with everything including hot sauce. What I love about this taqueria is that their hot sauce is super hot. It adds a lot of flavor to the already flavorful meal. The meat was tender. I often find that burritos from other taquerias can come out dry; however, this burrito was juicy. When you bite into it, the juices from the meat and sauce start to drip out. Extremely delicious! It's a must if you're ever in the area.

Yelp
My first yelp review ever.... Ordered 5 burritos the first time. Got 2...ordered again 3 burritos and got 2... are you guys purposefully not giving the right amount so you can save some money. That's 3 missing burritos in a matter of 1 hour. Do better... absolutely unacceptable
google avatar

Eduardo L.

Yelp
One of the better Mexican food places in the area. I got a burrito de barbacoa. It was good. A bit on the salty side. The good thing about this place is that they cook/heat up everything behind them. So you can see what they are doing. As well as they have different meats than regular taquerias. If you are in the EPA or Menlo Park area this will be one of your best options.
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered the super quesadilla as a pick up. It was hard to understand them on the phone and they did not make the quesadilla until I got there...BOO The meat was cold and chewy. No thank you.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm only putting one star to put a review horrible service bad attitude don't even want to help customers I was calling to place an order thank God enough for me to tacos for my dog and I was telling the lady how I wanted them not to greasy and she just hung up on me bad bad service I really hope the owner of this place can really manage service around here really bad service I do not recommend this place at all.
google avatar

Matt B.

Yelp
Giving five stars here because this should really be a four-plus star place, and the complaints of the past are NOT evident. Drinks are cold, tacos tasty and authentic, the atmosphere inviting and friendly. And who are the customers? All people of Latin America who all seem happy to be here. Part of this rating is also in gratitude for having a real world alternative to the nearby corporate food on the huge campus of a major company. Why can't THEY do tacos like this? Yum!

Yelp
Very bad customer service!! The Attitude from one of the ladies there was too much just because I asked for extra sauce!!

Cristina S.

Yelp
No fue una buena experiencia, definitivamente deben de mejorar su servicio al cliente, el lugar lucia sucio, las mujeres no estaban concentradas en mi orden y no tienen paciencia . No regresare mas!
google avatar

Yelp
Mexican coke was warm, chicken enchiladas were odd tasting. Beans and rice are okay, I can make this a lot better at home, or buy it from a box and it would be a lot better. I know good Mexican food, sadly... this isn't it. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing. The boyfriend loved his tacos. The two stars are for the nice people who work there.
google avatar

Summer S.

Yelp
These tacos are just like the ones we had in mexico. Supplement them with some delicious pan dulce from the bakery next door! The owner is a lovely man named Mohammad who made us fresh coffee, this is my new favorite restaurant in town!

Yelp
I've passed by this road hundreds of times but today I tried this place out and I was disappointed. Only tried their super burrito with lengua and it was flavorless. Actually when I got to the meat of my burrito I started tasting cleaning agent like Comet dishwashing detergent throughout the meat. I didn't want to finish my $7 super burrito it was that bad. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this place for their food. I can't comment on their service as I ordered my meal to go.

Yelp
This is probably my new favorite taqueria this side of 84. Came in around lunchtime on a Monday, no wait at all. The parking lot was not crowded, but on yelp it is mapped incorrectly. The taqueria is located on the outside towards the right of the building, you can't miss it. I got 4 tacos total -- 2 al pastor and 2 carne asada. Priced at $2 per, for this quality is really great. The meat was juicy and the tortilla tasted extremely fresh. 10/10 would come back again.
google avatar

Vanessa N.

Yelp
Definitely your local neighborhood no-frills taqueria. I got 2 tacos ($2 each): pollo (chicken) and lengua (beef tongue). These tacos are small- about the length of a credit card and not densely packed w meat. Only came with cilantro, onion, and sauce... NO PICO DE GALLO??!! I should've bought 3 tacos, or a burrito... because I was left quite hungry. Meat was moist but not that flavorful. Overall, basic . I'd come back to try their other food if I was in the area, but nothing to go out of your way for. They only speak Spanish here, but I managed ordering in English. PLENTY of outdoor seating and Parking. Laundromat across the street for those of you who want to get your laundry done at the same time.

Yelp
Best Tacos Ever.... LoL .... I'm no taco expert, but these tacos are tasty! I find myself wanting to go there often. The flavors of the stuff I have ordered aRe AmAZinG ...... I also enjoy the pride they have, plating of the food, and their service too. Thank you, Can't wait to see you again

Yelp
AKA Mi Tierra Linda Taqueria and Pollo al Carbon, this is one of the best chicken burritos I have ever had... and I have had many. FIVE STARS for the Chicken Super Burrito. All of their beef products (Asada, Cabeza, Barbacoa and Lengua) are too salty for my taste... The pork (Pastor, Chile Verde and Carnitas) is OK... But the chicken is AMAZING!!!!

Yelp
The lady taking the order is the one who makes the food as well. does not wash hands after handling cash. Rude and will not acknowledge you or look up to take your order unless you say something. Gave me a really dirty look when I asked for lemon. So sad that we are both Hispanic and she couldn't make that connection with me. Will not be coming here again due to poor customer service. Si no esta contenta trabajando aqui por favor no se enoje con los clients.
google avatar

Yelp
Been here twice the first time was great he second time the food sucked and the service was rude.
google avatar

Yelp
My all time favorite Mexican food spot. Depending on which lady makes your food that is.

Yelp
If you prefer fancy over great tasting food DO NOT COME HERE. This place is a neighborhood taqueria where everyone in here knows each other and comes for delicious-tasting food and comfortable, home-like atmosphere. Expect mismatched chairs and tables, disposable plates and cups, and working class guests having down to earth conversations while joking around with friends/coworkers, all while you enjoy your meat-stuffed burrito (or what have you). Pricing is about the same for any Mexican restaurant ($6 burritos, $10 Caldos, $1.50 Aguas Frescas) To add on to all of this, the cooks are very kind and will work with you if your Spanish is not all that great.
google avatar

Loli L.

Yelp
I do not live nearby. It costs me mucho gas to come here. It's totally and completely worth it. Each taco is $1.50 of perfect deliciousness. I order them in Spanglish and eat them off a disposable plate. If it was socially acceptable, I would probably lick the plate before I disposed of it. Pro tips: Stand back and don't be afraid to take your time with the menu. Get up to the counter only when you know what you want You want either the tacos or the chicken Green salsa= mildly spicy Red salsa= spicier .

Yelp
This is one of those nondescript places out on the way to the Dumbarton. It's literally a shack next to a Mexican grocery store and the sign outside simply says "Tacos". Entering the building is a small hallway with a window into a back kitchen. Outside they have a few plastic patio tables/chairs and they've started to do bbq grilling on certain days. Of course my taqueria bar are the soft tacos. Solid carnes asada and tripitas tacos. They also give you the customary radish and pickled jalapeno pepper. Typical hole in the wall locale and ambiance but definitely tasty taqueria fare.

Yelp
had the barbacoa burrito. wasn't too into it...really messy and hard to eat, probably because of the lettuce and sour cream, which i'd definitely leave out next time. Also, it was too big (this was the "regular"...i can't imagine what a "large" is) for me, and i'm used to the standard fare in SF (cancun, los altos, papalote, etc.). the meat itself was delicious, though. they just raised their prices on everything $1-$2 this week. i'll surely go back and try the tacos next time, maybe amend my review a bit based on that...

Yelp
Greetings Bay area folks I have to say that I am sad I thought I was finding a hidden gem but in reality the lunch was surreal it look delicious when one of my staff brought over the lunch that I ordered. I noticed that the Fork and knife were very small inappropriate for the type of food that order I order a steak plate. I took one bite of the steak and it was salty really really salty I also took a taste of the beans and the beans were also very salty. I didn't taste it the rice which it was ok. my staff asked me if there was anything wrong but having the forks facing up and not having any napkins nearby and the restaurant staff really busy also he had to come fast. I told him yes the forks that are facing up to grab them from the mouthpiece where the fork goes in our mouths? The answer yes I told him go back to the store or the restaurant or whatever and tell them that my lunch was not what I expected the food was very salty let him know that the forks was standing up and also if you want to, I'm not sure that's okay or not. Tell him that they supposed to have two exits not just one in such a confined space. If they ask you whant your money back tell him yes and tell him you can bring him the rest of the plate that I'm about to throw away. He went back to talk to them, they looked at him as he was telling them what happened with what he told me, or describe as indifference if they would have acknowledge with a polite sorry or would you like your money back or a combination of both or at least they would have went ahead and said we're on the forks correcting them right now. The staff l listen with a whatsoever. Look. No one's perfect all of all of us make mistakes and we definitely don't want to relieve our mistakes no I have not read all the post positive and negative with the restaurant nor do I want to throw my weight around because I am no one important no one of value but my reputation Twitter bad follows me and that's where restaurant take notice. I truly hope that the owner/s fix this issues at hand. I'm mad yes, that's not the way to answered a complaining coustomer. That's not the way The people I work around or my people treat or act with our coustomers.

Yelp
The Summary: A hidden gem that is located in a shack next to a grocery store in a sketchy neighborhood. While the location is questionable, the food is not. I would never take a date here, but if I want some cheap quality Mexican food, this is definitely a good place to go. The Positives: Everything here is super cheap. Additionally, the portions are pretty large and I have yet to get anything that wasn't tasty. While many may not like the shack feel with 2 tables, I definitely enjoy the homely ambiance of being mothered in someone's kitchen. The Negatives: While not cash only, if you want to use a credit card, you have to go next door the grocery store to pay.

Martin P.

Yelp
The carne asada burrito I order was really good but I wished they had a variety of beans to choose from besides refried. Overall their burritos are really good and this is one of the only places I have been to where they put lettuce in their burritos. I also order two tacos, one carne asada and one pollo asado. The pollo asado was really good and wished I order more of those or even a chicken burrito. Convenient location with ample parking. The market is next door and you can probably get different drinks but I'm not sure if they are cheaper.

Mike T.

Yelp
Don't go here for the ambiance! Taco shack. Taco shack, that's where it's at! Large menu in spanish and english in a pretty scray looking shed attached to a small Mexican grocery store. However, the prices are dirt cheap. I paid $5.41 including tax for a Super Burrito which included a lot of limes and pepers and vegetables on the side (that I didn't eat). It wasn't the most amazing burrito I had ever had but it was high quality meat, unique sauce and spices, and generally a great burrito value for the price. My Chile Verde burrito with hot sauce was super messy so if you don't have handy wipes or sanitizer handy, you might want to stick to a taco or a plate/platillo.

Eliza L.

Yelp
Usually it's pretty good but recently it's becoming greasy and greasy. Not even 5 mins into buying it and my quesadilla is greasy. Not good.
google avatar

Bruce C.

Yelp
Went there again today, and yep, same great food, and same great staff. They don't seem to get a lot of hype, but they are so much better than Chipotle or any other mexican food chain, and the people there are super friendly.

Coba W.

Yelp
Despite having lived around the corner for over two years, I never visited this place until today due to the mixed reviews on Yelp... but today, I realized it's really kind of silly for me to drive all the way down to Los Gallos for tacos if there's a taquería right around the corner that I've never even tried. This is a tiny place with an all-Spanish menu and rickety furniture that caters mostly to Mexican construction workers in search of a $6 lunch on a paper plate, and if you were going to expect fine dining, you'd be out of your mind. That said, the food is decent. Simple, but decent. That $6 buys you 3 tacos or a burrito, with real fresh vegetables, and some pickled ones too. I also had the horchata, which was excellent. If you are going to drive a ways to find a taquería, you can probably find a better one, but if you happen to be around Willow and Newbridge, this place will sell you a real meal for a fast food price.

Darren G.

Yelp
This is simply one of the best taco joints in the Bay Area. I grew up on fantastic so cal Mexican food and this is equally as good. The tacos are simply amazing. Loved the side of cucumber and pickled carrots too.

Jim J.

Yelp
I could not tell if I was not understood, if the people working there were not that quick, or if they were deliberately messing with me. I ordered one burrito with eggs, chorizo, and papas and one burrito with eggs, carne asada, and papas. This order, for some reason took two people to understand, and 15-20 minutes to complete, during which they tried to overcharge me: $6.50 per burrito (a regular burrito is $4 and super burrito is $5). Then they put rice and lettuce all over the burritos, ruining what was, to me, a perfectly good breakfast burrito.

Mike D.

Yelp
Wow, finest burrito I've found in the area. The carnitas is literally falling off the bone tender. And you know it's legit when it's tough to order without a little proficiency in Espanol.
