Actual location isn't exactly where it states. It's actually a 1/2 block away, and around the corner, next to the BMO Harris Bank. Parking is difficult, at best. Especially, at night. Neighborhood is also rather sketchy, unless of course you wish you enjoy camaraderie with pimps, whores, drug addicts, broke downs, and other "desirables" most likely to be found at a freeway of ramp during the daytime, either seeking "spare change", or hanging out in front of the local corner store selling " loose squares and packs, Sawbuck loud".
Now let's get to the business of the establishment. Place is reasonably clean. Decent atmosphere. Most of the patrons are of Mexican or Hispanic decent. Prices were reasonable. I was impressed with the Al-Pastor "spinning on the spit". The pineapple cap was a nice touch!
Speaking of the Al-Pastor tacos: they were more like pineapple tacos. Tacos were served with pineapple, cilantro, and onion. The later 2 were fine. However, way too much pineapple for my liking. If I wanted a pineapple taco, I would've picked up a can of pineapples, and a pack of corn tortillas from Rainbow Foods. (or Super Valu since "the Rainbow has gone with the wind ie Currently Out of Bidness!) Additionally, the Al-Pastor seemingly had so much seasoning on it, it was virtually impossible to taste the actual pork, itself.
The came asada tacos was about as promising as a road kill enchilada. The steak wasn't char broiled, as advertised. Rather, it's cooked on a griddle. Which is fine, if it's medium or medium rare. Problem is, I ordered carne asada tacos, not burnt candle wax tacos. Candidly, the steak were about as dry as the tortillas that were served on.
Even worse, is the #1 area where I judge a Mexican restaurant: its Salsa. The Salsa Rojo, tasted like watered down ketchup with bell pepper seeds. The Salsa Verde, didn't exactly look promising, either. However, I gave it a fair chance. It had a slight "whiff" of seasoning, but when I sampled it, it was clear that the Salsa Verde was tamped down with Sour Cream. How is this authentic Mexican? Or is this Authentic "Minnesota Mexican".
The best part of my order: the Mexican rice. Unfortunately, Uncle Ben's can do better. And cheaper than the $2.75 for theirs.
My opinion of this establishment: Sadly, "No bueno".
