Where to Eat Mexican Along Highway 99 in the Central Valley, Mapped | Eater

"It’s a convenience store-cum-ice cream shop that just happens to have a restaurant. The food is fine, but the guajolota is exceptional." - Gustavo Arellano

Parking was not a problem, plenty of room. The breakfast here was amazing I got a chorizo and bacon burritos it was off the hook! Atmosphere was great too. Highly recommended if you're in the area

**first timer** So disappointing,I really wanted to try this place because of the reviews. Unfortunately it didn't deliver. I got 3 asada tacos and 1 alpastor. Meat was super dry and no flavor at all, I had to add salt. The alpastor was way too spicy, which was mentioned. But this was a bad spicy, because again no flavor at all. My husband got a wet burrito(asada).also bland and flavorless. We got a shredded chicken taco for our son,he was given a piece of chicken, not shredded. The quantities are good, but the flavor is MISSING!!! Needless to say, we won't be coming back....muy decepsionada! La carrne estava seca y sin savor. Le tenia que ponerr sal. Mi hijo Chico agarro Pollo desevrado, pero nomas fue un pedaso de pechuga. No volveremos. La cantidad de la comida esta bien, pero la calidad no.

I recently paid a visit to Taqueria La Mexicana in Tracy, CA, and I have to admit, it wasn't quite the dining experience I had hoped for. 🌮😕 Now, let me preface this by saying that I'm not one to give low ratings easily. I firmly believe that sometimes, things just don't turn out as expected - hey, "ish happens," right? So, here's the rundown: I ordered the Al pastor nachos loaded with everything and a super taco prepared the same way. My lady went for a Carne asada taco and an enchilada combo with the same specifications. One of my personal rules of thumb when it comes to Mexican cuisine is that if the rice or chips aren't up to par, chances are the rest of the meal might disappoint, and unfortunately, that turned out to be the case here. The meal didn't sit well with any of us, and we found ourselves with upset stomachs for the next two days – definitely not the aftermath we were expecting from a dining experience. 😔 I'm willing to give Taqueria La Mexicana another shot in the future. It's entirely possible that it was just an off day in the kitchen. But for now, it's a hard pass from me. I'll need some time to psych myself up for a return visit to see if they can deliver a more satisfying meal. Until then, I'll keep my hopes up

I had a disappointing experience at Taqueria La Mexicana on 11th Street in Tracy. When I called to place my order, the woman who answered, Chelsea, was already rude and unfriendly. I brushed it off, but when I arrived to pick up my two burritos, the attitude continued. I politely asked if I could get an extra bag of chips since I ordered two burritos, and instead of explaining or offering to sell another, she rudely said I had to share the one bag. Her tone was uncalled for. If someone clearly doesn’t want to work with people, they shouldn’t be in customer service. The food was decent, but the experience was not.

Google
Worst water ever, I mean menudo!!! It had zero favor, no salt 🧂 no garlic, no spice… ZERO FLAVOR. We had go back to get several salsas from the salsa bar to add to our bowls. My husband ate the meat out of his bowl in an effort to get our $35 worth.

Google
Got a Carne Asada super burrito that is like 95% rice. The search for the meat was crazy. When I finally found a couple of crumbles of steak…. Dry… so so dry. I guess the taste is ok for a rice and bean burrito 😅 but definitely not worth the cost.

Google
This location is spiteful and cheap. They have changed prices multiple times on their dinner plates and now we have been jipped on ceviche after complaining that they shorted us. The location on Tracy Blvd near Raley's is okay, these people don't deserve any business. See my photos: This is an order of one ceviche-- barely anything, old avocado and I can't see much shrimp (the main component), it's filled with onions and tomatoes mostly. We had to wait 10 minutes extra for the obese woman to prep this! The last photo is a “side” of guac. Looks like water and avocado? Gross.

Yelp
Good service and ok atmosphere. Seems like a place locals come to. We had a good lunch here today. I got the 2 fish taco special with rice and beans. Very very good. Fish was nice and crispy. Rice and beans were very good.

Yelp
In Tracy visiting and saw this restaurant while running errands. We were greeted nicely by the cashier who took our order. We ordered some Super Nachos and a Regular Carne Asada Burrito to go. The place has a good amount of seating, clean and decorated nicely. The food was ready fairly quickly. We enjoyed the food. I shared the nachos and it was enough for 2 people as a meal. They are good size portions for the price.

Yelp
Decent taco spot. I came here with my brother and cousin recently, and we got 8 carne asada tacos and a plate of super nachos with pulled chicken. The tacos were good. Meat was cooked and seasoned well. There was a good amount of meat on each taco. No complaints. The super nachos were okay. Flavor was lacking a little and there wasn't a lot of meat. Service was good. We got our food not too long after we ordered.

Yelp
I used to love this place! I don't want to say anything bad. It's just not the same. Food is different. Beans are too lardy, enchiladas are dry. Hubby loves though.

Yelp
Love the food. Delicious and nice portions. Service is decent and ambiance is traditional.

Yelp
Solid Mexican food! We ordered 3 carne asada tacos. They had plenty of meat, although it could have used more seasoning and the tortillas were soft. We also ordered the Flautas, and those were also served with a generous amount of lettuce, cheese, crème, and guacamole. They also gave us chips and we tried the salsa bar. The salsas were flavorful and mildly spicy ( I tried 3 of them). The Horchata was very good!! The restaurant had some nice murals, and booths for seating. They also had a TV that was showing a football game. There was plenty of free parking.

Yelp
Food: Excellent! Service: Excellent! Ambiance: perfect blend of professionalism and family This has been our Go To taqueria for almost 3 decades! We don't go anywhere else. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Taqueria La Mexicana is a great place to come and eat menudo. I visit this place with my mom and sisters. It was delicious and menudo super fresh and tasty. I do recommend this place for a Sunday morning to come and enjoy menudo.

Yelp
I wouldn't come here as they were extremely racist to my aunt who lives in the area. They mixed her order up with someone else that also wears hijab and when asked about it they were rude.

Yelp
We traveled to Tracy to run errands then craving for authentic Mexican food. I ordered many Super Burritos in my days, but never an Ultimate Burrito. It really caught my eye on the menu. The burrito was delicous and the perfect comfort food. The staff was very friendly and helpful. if you are looking a less expensive delicious authentic Mexican food, this is the spot!

Dale G.

Yelp
My go to mexican spot for a great and not pricey steak quesadilla. This place has great and quick service and food always delivers, the green salsa is amazing too.

Manuel Y.

Yelp
Was there yesterday evening order some takeout. The food there is very very good all there items are good. I know the owners good people. I like the carnitas.plate the best. I keep going back good people good attitudes friendly try there

Dyannah P.

Yelp
Well you know me. I like to say how I feel. La Taqueria Mexicana is an excellent restaurant. The food is very delicious. The serving size is really amazing. And the price is very spot on. We always have the same two plates. My partner gets the chili relleno, w/rice, beans, salad. I have the grilled chicken salad, sometimes I can't decide between the taco salad with the tortilla shell and the

Yelp
I tasted their food just casually ... but now it become my habbit to visit them regurlarly... loved their service and their cooperative staff always ready to serve food with love and happiness .

Jesse S.

Yelp
This review isn't for the food, it was for the service. I've never walked out of a restaurant while about to order besides yesterday when I was here. The girl at the counter was so rude to another customer and to my wife and I that we couldn't believe what we witnessed and then told her that she needs to watch how she talks to people and we walked out without ordering. I have never had any issue at the other Tracy location. I also don't yelp much but she has to be called out. Ownership needs to not have her interacting with customers!

Yelp
Very authentic Mexican restaurant. Food is always great and you'll be satisfied. Almost all the items that I've tasted will satiate your your desire to come back for more. Come and try it you'll love it.

Yelp
Taqueria La Mexicana is located in two places in Tracy and is one of the best Mexican food restaurants. The food is delicious!

Darlene R.

Yelp
Nope not good no flavor on lengua overpriced got tacos asada those those were okay but on the hunt for better tasting food out here this is not the place

H. L. R.

Yelp
This is our go to spot for Mexican food. We are never disappointed! The prices are reasonable and service is outstanding. We have not had the opportunity to eat in the restaurant as it's usually full of diners. We order take out. This spot is a hidden gem!

Yelp
i mainly got the rice and beans for my own dinner i was making at home , but i wanted to try out their enchiladas. Enchiladas were good. They were not dry. the asada was tasty. the rice and beans where also good. the ladies working there were really nice and very friendly.

Yelp
Great food, fish tacos were generous. The crispy taco shells were very similar to Taco Bell but the insides were good. Salsa bar is very tasty!
google avatar

David A.

Yelp
Honestly by far one of the better shrimp burritos that I've had. Shrimp tasted fresh and were BIG pieces. Al pastor tacos had a lot of flavor and the nachos were a nice compliment to the rest of the food.

Yelp
This has always been my favorite place for good Mexican food. I haven't been for awhile and to say today I was disappointed was an understatement. I ordered the chile verde plate. This dish was not edible at all. Meat was tough and undercooked, it was extremely spicy ( I like a good kick ) but this was just terrible. After paying almost $50 bucks and being told it was $1 more for a bag of chips. I know times are tough but when you stop caring about what you're cooking and charging more, you don't gain customers, you lose them. Well it was a nice run but I'm done.

Yelp
This restaurant had many good reviews but I couldn't even eat 1/2 my burrito. Maybe a bad day for cook? We couldn't even finish our food. They did do a good job cleaning our table. I appreciate that. That's the two stars

Moni T.

Yelp
this place is bomb! Super authentic recipes. I usually get tacos and chile rellenosszz n a agua fresca YUM

Yelp
Sadly this Mexican restaurant was one of my favorite go to places. Up until the "pandemic" when they closed to service. Today was our first return to "our old haunt". Sadly we wished we hadn't gone there. The Wifie and I decided a good ole lunch burrito was in order. The wife ordered the pork carnitas burrito and because she likes guacamole she upgraded the burrito to "The ultimate burrito". Sour cream, guacamole added as the ultimate burrito exclaims. Bad choice. Her burrito was dry inside rice no carnitas to speak of and a very light green liquid looking sauce doused into it. Let's just say this was nothing like the used to be. She was disgusted and less than halfway into it she threw in the towel. Wrapping in the foil and dumped it. Chips and Salsa. Hmm, let me expound on this usual side accompaniment was terrible. You get one small greasy seeping bag with 15-20 chips. Mind you I also had a burrito to order for TWO. Hah! Joke. They were greasy, cold non flavorful just cardboard scrapers. TOSS OUT #2 Now for my "El Pastor" burrito with the exception of an orange grease (sauce) a carbon copy of the carnitas and not what any aficionado of El pastor pork would call exceptional. Unless you're speaking exceptionally BAD. I too have up and trashed the half hearted attempt at a Mexican burrito. Oh and it was the "ultimate burrito" upgrade too. Difference was when I unwrapped the foil enclosure I was surprised to see a bright green liquid all over the outside of the tortilla. And nothing representing guacamole inside at all. Lack of meat lack of beans no sour cream Basically a rice burrito. And DRY. Refreshments: the tea dispenser was tagged out of order. The soda fountain was tagged out of order. Yet they will sell you a plastic drinking vessel for ice and whatever you're lucky to get out of a dispenser. The next time I want a tortilla wrapped around rice and a couple beans and meat pieces I'll go to an Asian restaurant expecting "just rice". Buyer beware this place has slipped off the hill and isn't worth the trip. Save your money. SADLY A BAD DEAL.

Yelp
My buddy and I were over at WinCo Foods and looking for a snack. This looked busy, so we decided to try it. It didn't look as though they had a lot to offer. They had 4 things hung above the cash register and no printed menu. My buddy ordered Papas de carne asada, which they didn't have, so he ordered a carne asada burrito and horchata. I asked for 2 carne asada tacos and an agua de piña, which they didn't have, so I asked for water. They asked if I wanted everything on the tacos and I said "yes" but they didn't inform me that I was getting green sauce. $12.63 seemed a lot for a snack, and I forgot to order rice. It's about the same as eating at Jack in the Box. They gave us a number to put at the table. They also gave us chips, which seemed fairly fresh, probably cooked today. They didn't give us salsa but there is a salsa bar. A dear lady came to deliver the burrito first and later, the tacos. She was enthusiastic and arrived with a smile. I was surprised by the green sauce. It was good, but unexpected. The meat was somewhat chewy, but there was so much of everything that it didn't fit. I'd prefer better meat that wasn't as plentiful. Tortillas were warm but didn't seem to have been fried. My buddy's burrito was good, according to him. He didn't mention the horchata. Maybe, it's just me but it didn't seem that they had a plan. The food wasn't good enough to pull me off the street. I'd rather go to La Costa.

Sandy C.

Yelp
The food is sooo good at least the burritos are not dry at all I love this place in sidi I moved and can't come there as often.

Yelp
Their hours are wrong. Staff is rude. Food is actually decent so I'll let you make your decision.

Yelp
Excellent food and nicest people work there they really appreciate your business and take great care of you.

Yelp
Restaurant was not clean looks very dark and scary! staff extremely unfriendly especially the cook that just stands there staring down customers not to mention he looks completely obese! their ATM machine does not work they suggest that you go down a few businesses to use another businesses ATM machine unbelievable. right when you walk in you are ignored and when they decide to approach you you have an overwhelming feeling that you're putting them out of their way I just wanted to walk out but I proceeded to place an order and then was hit with ATM machine not working. Been to most of the restaurants in the area this is by far on the top five worst on my list. If anybody happens to travel through this town and stumble upon your shady business will leave with an unbelievably horrible experience of this town and I don't think they would ever come back so thanks for making Tracy great again!!!
google avatar

Michael A.

Yelp
This place was closed down for a while I think for kitchen renovations. But I went there today to get some food for my roommate and myself. The lady who took my order was super nice as always, very friendly! The carnitas burrito was actually amazing and the carnitas were crunchy which I loved about it, the burrito in general was just the business, highly recommend. My roommates carne Asada tacos were really good and had a bunch of meat on them which was cool! great experience and I will definitely be returning soon! Best carnitas I've had in a while!!

Yelp
One word: TRIPAS! Most taquerias in town do not serve tripas due to a variety of reasons (very time consuming to prepare, not cost-worthy, not profitable, etc.), but Taqueria La Mexicana at 11th Street continues to sell it. Where other taquerias have failed, TLM has succeeded. I find it hard to pass up on the tripas whenever we go here, but I've been able to sample the lengua, carne asada, al pastor, carnitas, and the other meats/dishes, too (thanks primarily to my wife and kids for letting me try whatever they are having). Everything is tasty, but it will be tripas for me all the way. Everything else comes a distant second. Don't forget about the pickled jalapenos, carrots, and onions. Guaranteed to kick the flavor of your dish up a notch!

Yelp
Great prices and great food. My family loves this food and service . All we ask is please enforce customer to wear mask coming in. I have come in & followed n by no masks. As they ordered. - Workers are Great and masks .
google avatar

Alex L.

Yelp
This is always a resource for quick, yummy Mexican food when you aren't in the mood to cook. If the thick monstrous burrito can't fill your panza then you're out of luck, Mister Gordo. They do need a better selection of salsa. WTH is the difference between "Spicy" and "Hot"?
google avatar

Autumn B.

Yelp
My go to taqueria! They have just about anything you could want. Food is always fresh and delicious. Good bang for your buck and the salsa bar is amazing!

William S.

Yelp
Great service , not very good burrito asada. Was not very flavorful, the salsa in it tasted like pizza sauce. 5.8/10

Yelp
I really like their super asada burritos! The asada is plentiful, they have whole beans and they don't skimp on loading it up. It's a brick! Two meals. I an glad I found this place close to work. I am not sure if I will try anything else.
google avatar

Yelp
Good little spot on the Blvd !! Good food resonance prices !decent salsa bar Only thing is a little stingy with the chips !!

Anthony F.

Yelp
Drop by here Sunday game day ordered chorizo and eggs burnt and crunchy. Never had crunchy chorizo before everything else was alright.

J Q.

Yelp
Ordered cane asada burrito and the meat was tuff like jerky boiled beans no flavor rice same.

J H.

Yelp
We ordered to go over the telephone. My order was chicken flauta combo "no sour cream ". My wife ordered chili relleno combo. She asked for an order of tortillas. When she got home she didn't have her tortillas and mine was drenched in sour cream. How damn hard is it to get two simple requests right? We pay good money and tip well. Is it too much to ask? Granted she could have unpacked the bag and checked everything. It's just a hassle repackaging. We are tired after a long day and just not real interested in going back.

Yelp
This place was HORRIBLE!!!!! Ordered food togo on grub hub for my disabled parents and they just canceled the order without notification!

Yelp
The super nachos are always our go to when eating at this taqueria. Shreaded chicken tacos are a fav for my son. Pretty much anything you order here has great flavors and you can't go wrong eating here.

Yelp
Best place for Camarones al mojo de ajo (garlic shrimp)! All Mexican restaurant has their own version of this dish, but this is by far my favorite. The shrimps were big, juicy, and flavorful. You can taste the garlic and butter but without the lingering garlic breath. They served it with warm tortilla, salad with ranch, rice and beans. Salsa bar is also available for your free chips. Horchata was also good; cold, refreshing, not watered down and overly sweet. Service was excellent and restaurant is very clean at the time i visited in the morning. You gotta try their Camarones al mojo de ajo! They also have the spicy one, Diabla.
