There are free chips and salsa included when you dine in. I recommend the rice and beans on the side rather than the salad. The cheese flautas and the chicken quesadilla were so good.

Google
The rice and beans component of the dish proved to be the most disappointing element, with an imbalanced ratio of approximately 3/4 beans to 1/4 rice, rendering the quantity of rice overwhelming and impractical. This imbalance was exacerbated by the lack of utility for such an excess of rice, leading to a sense of dissatisfaction and inconvenience. The presentation of such an imbalanced proportion is regrettable, as it detracted from the overall dining experience. Regarding the torta, while the flavor was acceptable, the texture of the bread was compromised by staleness, detracting from the enjoyment of the dish. Additionally, the al pastor meat exhibited an unexpected chewiness, deviating from the anticipated tenderness associated with this preparation. Despite these shortcomings, the highlight of the meal was undoubtedly the tres leches dessert, characterized by its exceptional moistness and delectable flavor profile, standing out as one of the finest renditions of tres leches encountered. Regrettably, the disparity between the quality of the dessert and the main courses was notable, underscoring missed opportunities for culinary excellence.

I strolled in for a late night bite. Ordered my burrito (~$10.50) and handed the server a $10 bill. I was preparing to hand him a few more bucks when he handed me back change. Confused, I told him I gave him a 10. He corrected me. Turns out I had handed him a 20. While I waited, they gave me some chips and salsa and encouraged me to chill and enjoy the chips even when my food was ready. I watched a round of boxing on the TV with some friendly folks then went on my way. The burrito was huge, delicious, and came with a side of rice and beans. Super honest service, great food, and friendly atmosphere. I’ll certainly be back.

Google
The food is very underwhelming and kind of odd. I’m not going to judge on authenticity because there’s a wide range of Mexican cooking styles but the food was bland and poorly prepared: think stale and unsalted chips, quesadillas with just warmed tortillas instead of grilled, cold chunks of pineapple on the tacos al pastor, watery beans and strangely orange rice without that classic taste Mexican rice usually has. The service was nice and they are open very late which is probably why it is so popular but otherwise I don’t see why I would return if other places are open.

Google
Best Mexican food in the area for a really great price! Staff is super chill and nice - they served me chips and salsa while I waited for my takeout order even though I wasn’t dining in! I always get their huge and delicious tinga burrito ($9.99 plus rice and beans! Can’t beat that deal), but I’ve had plenty of their other menu items and they’re all excellent. Come here!

Google
Pretty authentic Mexican restaurant, but the fish tacos were so plain & lacked flavor. The shrimp tacos were better, and their hot on the side sauce helps. Great service and price point, though.

Google
Good Mexican food for NYC standards. It’s actually better than most Mexican food in NYC, which tends to be a disappointment. Decent prices and good service. The torta in particular was a standout. They provide customers with free chips and salsa which is always a nice gesture. Very fast service. Bathroom was very clean which is appreciated.

Google
Amazing spot to grab a late night bite. It’s a no frills spot that has great, authentic food with great service. Everything is reasonably priced and delicious

Yelp
I have lived in NYC for almost 20 years and 50% of my meals have been sandwiches. My favorite sandwich in NYC is the chile relleno torta at Norteña. Nuff, and I can't emphasize this enough, said.

Cole D.

Yelp
Incredible value. Chips and salsa complimentary plus a Birria burrito stuffed with meat and a side of rice and beans for $12? Incredible. I feel like you don't find meals like that in NYC. quiet inside. Nice to have a bunch of friends over. The burrito loco was really tasty. Not much but meat inside the burrito; no lettuce, tomato stuff like that. But tasty. The Birria sauce is really spicy so my lips are still recovering 2 days later. Tasty tho. The rice was so good. Standout.

Jillian B.

Yelp
Solid late night option in the area with good portions and reasonable prices. They accommodated my request for no beans. Burrito was very generously stuffed. They also brought out table chips and salsa, so that's always a plus! Service was pretty quick too. If you're looking for a no frills late night meal, I would say it's a good option.

Samuel D.

Yelp
I used to love this place but it's much more of a club vibe now. The music is SO loud. They can't hear your order when they take it. Don't come here to eat if you want to converse because you won't hear anyone :/

Sonal M.

Yelp
Great service. Friendly staff. Delicious, well flavored meal. The green sauce on my enchiladas definitely had a kick! A traditional taqueria vibe.

Kaitlyn S.

Yelp
Ordered quesadillas and a side salad. The salad came with a side of a long black hair... I'm blonde btw. The quesadillas were good though.

Micaela W.

Yelp
Good late night taco spot! Service was pretty fast, but if you sit in the other room you might have to flag them to have your order taken. The al pastor was especially good with the pineapple and spices! I wish they had grilled the tortillas a little.

B M.

Yelp
Chefs kiss. Deserves all the stars. Super busy at night but very much worth it. I would like to highlight how hard the employees work in getting the food prepared in a timely manner regardless of the high volume of customers. Again, thank you so much. (P.s. flautas and taco suadero with salsa verde are still so yummy)

Vignesh T.

Yelp
I stumbled into this restaurant unplanned but I'm really glad I did. La Nortena has to be one of the best Mexican restaurants I've ever been to. I got the chicken enchiladas, Les treches, and a horchata- everything exceeded my expectations. The portion sizes are huge and prices are on the lower side. The service made the experience especially enjoyable. Our waiter regularly checked up on us to refill water, bring out sauces and he even split the bill individually for my whole party of about 10 people.

Samantha S.

Yelp
Clean, rather spacious restaurant with indoor as well as outdoor seating and friendly service. I enjoyed the carnitas tacos, and my friends helped me devour the hot salsa and chips! Reasonably priced, authentic Mexican food. I'm glad to know this spot is here.

Dani B.

Yelp
Authentic spot with so many options! Definitely recommend the tacos Al pastor and the elote, honestly one of the best I've had!

Jancity D.

Yelp
This spot is clutch 100! They always take care of me, treating regulars and new customers with open arms. Consistently delicious and open late. The inside is fun and lively with a great soundtrack. This place saves lives

Liv G.

Yelp
My favvvv place everrrr!!! So fkn good. Get the chicken quesadillas and salsa they bring with the chips.

Tanzie R.

Yelp
A really cute, family run taqueria in Greenpoint. They have really good prices and the food was pretty good. Can't lie, the taco trucks nearby are way better and have more flavor, but this place is perfect since you can eat indoors. They have a weird set up. The counter is at the front and maybe a few tables behind it for seating. Kitchen is in the back and bathroom right next to it. They have a second room in the back with two booths that we gravitated towards. One of the booths were occupied by family members or friends of the waitstaff? I didn't mind sitting near their group but it was starting to get pretty crowded which may not have been the best during a pandemic... The food came in waves. We were given free chips and salsa right away which we devoured. The free salsa had so much flavor! Sweet, spicy and fresh! The rest of the food could have used flavor like that. The spicy red sauce you get was amazing! The green sauce was a little watery. I ordered the cheese quesadilla ($9) that came with rice and beans. Quesadilla could have been pressed down more to make it crispy. Rice and beans were pretty good! I also ordered fries ($3.50) that needed salt but you got a lot for the price! We also got the regular nachos ($8). I think its components just lacked a little seasoning like more lime in the guac, spice in the salsa, salt in the chips etc. But not bad for the price, and beautiful presentation! I think the tacos ($3 to 3.50 each) were a bit of a let down. All came with onions and parsley but nothing else. Would have loved an avocado crema or some kind of salsa because otherwise it was pretty plain. A quick rundown: Shrimp Taco - nice color, lots of shrimp, needed seasoning Fish Taco - very fishy taste and mushy, would not recommend Chicken Taco - dry but good flavor Steak Taco - best out of the bunch, good seasoning Overall would come here again to try some other dishes. The prices are great!

Yelp
I came by with a group of 9 people and they still were able to seat us/were really accommodating. The food was great as per usual and I definitely converted a few gym friends to this place being their after gym meal. I love this place so much and highly recommend it, I've never had something I dislike here.

Ethan Z.

Yelp
The horchata is awful lmao. Worst horchata I've ever had and I love horchata. Other food isn't bad though

Michael K.

Yelp
Definitely come here! Friendly service, open late, good portions, good prices. I've been here 10x in the past month and I'll miss this place if they ever relocate/close.

Ashley S.

Yelp
If you are looking for authentic Mexican! This is the place to go!! I've lived in California all my life and just moved to NY and found this gem. The portions are a great size!! I always order the shrimp burrito with a side of rice and beans!! So Good!!!!

Janet H.

Yelp
Affordable dine-in Mexican food. That would probably be the only reason I would return. Alex and I ordered 2 margaritas, res chimichanga, birria, taco, chorizo chalupas, rice and beans and churros. Everything tasted just okay. Total with tax came out to $50. In summary, it's a good option when nothing else is open after late night drinking.

David B.

Yelp
Hole-in-the-wall fork & knife Mexican. Huge plates. Cheap drinks ($3 for margs & beers). Friendly service. Great value. Maybe not a place that you'd go out of your way to visit, but if you don't want to wait an hour for a seat at nearby Calexico or El Born, this is a suitable spot! Pretty rowdy on a Saturday night... this added to an overall jovial experience. Let the good times roll!

Lok-yee L.

Yelp
Came here around 2am and smelled the kitchen from half a block away. Great late night spot for some authentic WELL SEASONED Mexican food. Food: The $3 carne enchilada tacos (spicy pork) were amazing. The portions were large and generous and the staff are extremely friendly. COVID: It seems like they're building a new deck to expand their outdoor seating options. As of last night, there were 3 tables set outside on the side walk. There was no host to seat us or to clean the tables outside. We ordered our food inside and sat down at one of the tables. Although I expected more of a take out situation, the waitress surprisingly served my taco and my friend's grilled chicken plate with actual dish-ware and silverware. She did not disinfect the table, but there was hand sanitizer provided at the cashier inside. Staff: super friendly staff working the late night! Thank you.

Witold Z.

Yelp
My calamari, half was French fries. My check quesadilla was chicken Fajitas Burger was ok

Michael R.

Yelp
There's an authentic Mexican gem in Greenpoint, only a few minutes from North Williamsburg- Taqueria La Nortena. I've ordered delivery, take out and eaten in. Every time the food is delicious. The best nachos are the ultimate nachos la nortena, which includes the meat if your choice, grilled peppers, grilled jalapeños, tortilla chips, cheese, lettuce, onion, tomatoes, sour cream and guacamole. The portions are great. Big filled burritos that come with rice and beans or a salad. The fajitas are fabulous, tacos, flautas, enchiladas- plus they're open from 5pm to 4am- deliveries are probably most of their business. They have lunch specials and happy hour specials. The service is great and the staff is friendly. Love+Mexican Food=Taqueria La Nortena.

Cassandra N.

Yelp
One of my go-to Mexican spots in greenpoint. Sure the service can be spotty but everyone has bad days. 90% of the time I've left happy which is a lot.

Kristie K.

Yelp
Great spot for your late night taco fix. I love their Taco al Pastor. I usually also get their chips and guacamole, which is pretty good! Much cheaper than Calexico, across the street, too. Their salsa is also good, but has a bit of a kick to it! I have only done take out so far, but seems like they get a lot of delivery orders.

Lola C.

Yelp
We stumbled across this place when the initial restaurant that we chose to go to was too full. First, they provide complementary chips and salsa. The salsa was the best salsa that I have ever tasted. The food portions are huge and it's very affordable. The server was the sweetest ever and my kids liked him so much The food was AMAZING. we had mixed fajitas, and two burritos. I will be going back soon

Rishi J.

Yelp
I love this place! You can not go wrong with any of the tacos. My favorites are al pastor and shrimp. The plates and fajitas are ginormous! I always end up getting a box home with a whole leftover meal when I get them. The prices are very reasonable and the staff is always nice. There's a decent amount not outdoor seating too.

Becky M.

Yelp
We just moved into Greenpoint and was hoping to find a good Mexican spot. With so many positive reviews, i was certain there was something we would like.. but everything we had was so disappointing. Were they having a bad night? Did we order the wrong things? We saw a table with 12 empty margarita glasses (there were 4 of them) so figured they were good! But they turned out to be pretty watered down - this is coming from someone who doesn't drink much. You get complimentary chips and salsa when you sit down, so we ordered the pork chimichanga and 3 tacos (al pastor, barbacoa, fish). All the tacos were really dry and flavourless, and while the chimichanga is massive for $9.50, the entire burrito was so bland, the only thing that somewhat saved it were the bottles of sauces that they bring to the table. Menu prices were cheap, we were hoping to Find a good local but we're pretty disappointed. I was confused since the restaurant was pretty full, and they had a constant stream of orders to fill so the food should have been good...?? With all the online/phone orders, that meant we had to wait 45 mins for our food (this was around 8pm on a Thursday night). Anyway, the hunt continues for a good taco in Greenpoint !

Casey D.

Yelp
Waited an hour for these tacos outside in the cold. It looked like they forgot my order. Not worth it.

Amro K.

Yelp
The worst food you would ever taste, my friend ate there once and he recommended me to go and try their food so I walked in and everyone is staring at me like I'm not a human being and I came from another universe try to order the same as my friend and the cashier is talking to me like she don't even want to be there and giving me attitude I ordered the same as wha my friend ordered and they charged $30 more then the actual price and when I asked the lady started mixing between english and Spanish making up things and even though I got scammed I wish the food was good the chicken was so dry and cold and no flavor no seasoning and it was so cold, definitely not recommending this place if you like food

Randi T.

Yelp
My favorites to-go Mexican restaurant. I order from here regularly and the food is always so good. I eat primarily vegetables and the grilled veggie nachos are on point, meaning delicious.

Elisabeth Z.

Yelp
Chose this place for delivery totally at random while drunk last night and boy did it pay off. First of all it was at my door in exactly 20 minutes. Second the burrito was the size of a football. Third the refried beans were goopy goopy as they should be. Fourth the nachos had so much "stuff" no chip went dry. This place nails it I'm so excited to eat there forever

Joseph T.

Yelp
After bar hoping around greenpoint for a bit, we finished up at taqueria la nortena for a few bites before heading home. We shared steak quesadillas. The quesadillas used small tortillas so they were taco sized and there were four per order. They can't with rice and beans. The meal was very filling and satisfied my late night munchies.

Drey W.

Yelp
They have posted that they are open until 4am. I walked from about 1 mile away to get some tacos at 3am and got there and they wouldn't let me in and I could hear people partying inside. I just wanted a few tacos and they couldn't accommodate. Also was in from Oregon and heard good reviews about this place. Bummer!

Violet B.

Yelp
Came in late to have some Chile relleno and fajitas with rice and beans. Everything delicious and hitting the spot. Generous portions and friendly service. Thank you for this food!!

Robert F.

Yelp
I've been coming here for almost 4 years now. Family owned and operated and always cheffing up great food for a great price. Why even bother going to calexico?

Yorlenny M.

Yelp
Great restaurant for when you're really drunk and hungry. However, it is super hit or miss on the daily. You order food from here and you end up waiting an hour, calling 5 times to ask where your order is, angrily asking for refunds, they forget your condiments/sauces or beverages every other time, food is Amazing one day and awful the next. By then there are those times when you get home drunk or tired and you decide to play that card and order from here and it shows up super on time and good. Take your pick or chance.(?)

Angelica N.

Yelp
Reason for trying this place: Whenever I come home around 10:30-11 this place is always packed! I figured it had some mixed reviews but maybe the people going don't yelp So i figured instead of the standard Mexican Joint I'd see if this place was worth it. It's not!! I guess the crowd that comes here are the after party eaters. The food isn't horrible-- I did like it but I could have gotten food much better for the same price a half a block away from this place. I have the Chicken Taco. The only thing that I really enjoy about this place is they way they serve the taco. My friend got the burrito and it was very dry. Nothing Special.

william h.

Yelp
My favorite late night go too! When a restaurant in north Brooklyn closes their kitchen staff head here for late night meal and drinks. Nice people great food!

Bethany R.

Yelp
Stopped here for take away after bailing out of a show in the area. Placing the order was quick and easy. Jumped in before the app said our order was ready just to check and it was hot and ready to go. Beef nachos were huge and very good. Solidly tasty guac and decent tacos. Worth a late night dinner. Can't speak to eating in or drink prices, but the kitchen is right up front of the restaurant and it can get a little tight if you're waiting.

Rommel G.

Yelp
The carnitas taco is everything! I've been coming here for years, the people that work here have always been awesome. I live close enough that I always do take out, it seems like a lot of the negative reviews are for delivery. I also recommend the Al Pastor tacos, the flautas mixtas, and the horchata! I lived in Mexico City for a few years and this place is on point. Open late! What more can you ask for??

Selwa A.

Yelp
Always great service, absolutely love their amazing tacos. Delivery is always either early or on-time, never late. Love this place

Thomas G.

Yelp
This place hit the spot one recent evening when a friend and I needed a place to hang out and catch up over a few beers. Reasonably priced food, nice service. Not at all pretentious, which is sometimes needed. I got lengua and barbacoa tacos and as a Texan, they met my standard. Waitress was nice and attentive. Would go again.

Nicholas E.

Yelp
I came for tacos, particularly lengua tacos. I was not disappointed. Barbacoa was also excellent. The fish and chorizo tacos were also really good, but if I come back in getting more of the first two.

Nina G.

Yelp
The tacos always take a minimum of 30+ minutes, regardless of when you come, and are very mediocre. Lower your expectations.

Bobby B.

Yelp
I don't know if it's the time of night or the hunger but this place always hits the spot I tried a variety of tacos lol and none disappointed so they are all stars w me

Gabby S.

Yelp
This has become my go-to in the neighborhood. I have dined in (or out I guess), and have had delivery. The food here is consistently soo good. I'm never disappointed! I usually go for the chicken fajitas, but tried my friend's steak and it's also great. Have also indulged in a chicken burrito, which was perfectly packed and wrapped. Love their margs, too. Strong, but you can't really tell which is just how I like it. Outdoor seating is very spaced out and feels safe. Staff is so sweet, even when it's blazing hot and they have to keep their masks on. I appreciate you, La Norteña! Keep up the good work.

Knot U M.

Yelp
When I'm hungry at 3 am these tacos hit the spot! The delivery takes long so I usually get up and pick up. I've eaten there once and the vibe is family feel with loud music and soccer usually playing on the tv

Stas R.

Yelp
Tops is tops and fresh is fresh. It's clean fast and tasty feels authenticity connected to what I eat in Mexico.

Wade W.

Yelp
Man I really used to love this place . Quality and quantity has been cut in half . I used to come to this place 3 times a week .. looks like the owners son took over and cut my tacos in half but charge the same .. tacos are not consistent any longer . Different types of pork ever order ... the owner of this place was the best he used to delivery food him self .. his son was making fun of customers saying they were stupid for buying more tacos since they were smaller . Sad to see this happen. All of my friends locally feel the same . You lost me as a customer and 10 other locals :.(
