La Ventana Review - Downtown - Dallas - The Infatuation

"When your group of indecisive besties or coworkers can’t decide where to go for food and drinks, head to the outdoor patio at La Ventana. There’s plenty of space and big tables to get comfortable while drinking rounds of margaritas and micheladas. The menu has all the standard proteins and they serve breakfast all day, so even if the sun has set, go ahead and get the potato, egg, and cheese breakfast quesadilla." - Gabe Bergado

Cool local taco spot with cheap tacos and margaritas. Great guac and chips. Great queso. Tacos are fresh and a great price. I tried the steak, barbacoa and shrimp. Not my fave tacos but they were good for the price. The other person I was with said the chicken tacos were good. The margaritas were great! I had cucumber and jalapeno....really tasty!

Google
Love this place. I have been coming here for over 10 years. The tacos are amazing. Chips and queso are great. The beer is cold and the salsa is hot. Always a great recommendation for anybody.

Google
Our first visit here and had to wait an extensive amount of time to order. You stand at the counter to order, then sit with a number and wait for your food. The atmosphere is lively with a street vibe - very cool. We had tacos, elotes and a quesadilla. The meat was good, the tortillas dry. The elotes (corn) was tasty but not authentic and plump. While the food was good, there are many other authentic Mexican food in the area worthy of trying.

This spot is an absolute vibe! As soon as you approach, you feel like you're in Mexico, from the entrance, the music, the staff, and the atmosphere! I loved every moment being here. Thursdays they offer $3.75 beers and margaritas! Tacos are under three bucks each, what a deal! Staff is super friendly and helped us order what's popular, highly recommend!

Google
A solid simple, fast taco stop. Super friendly service and fun, lively atmosphere. The food was just fine, but nothing crazy special. The bowl is much better value than the tacos due to the tacos being absolutely tiny. The bowl is a bit bland though. Plain black beans. Plain white rice. And not enough tomatoes/lettuce to makeup for the lack of flavor. They do have sauces they bring out that help. The queso is very watery as well. But the service was fast and it was a decent place!

We do a monthly girls night at La Ventana and always have a blast. Pros: Great happy hour prices, tacos are good and actually affordable, their house made salsa is fantastic (so is their queso and guacamole), the staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is lively. Oh, and their caramel filled churros are crave worthy. 😍 Slight-cons: Portion size on margaritas is inconsistent. Sometimes they come in a small plastic cup, sometimes a larger plastic cup, and sometimes a glass. All for the same price. I’d love a little more consistency. Also, it seems like they only have 1 frozen margarita machine, so if it’s busy your frozen margarita is not so frozen. Chips and salsa aren’t complimentary, but they are delicious so we usually buy a few orders for the table. Last time we were in, 1 of the 2 stalls in the women’s restroom had a huge hole in the door that made going the bathroom a little awkward. Hopefully they’ve fixed that since then. lol Overall, I recommend La Ventana and always look forward to girls night here. ☺️

My first time here. The food and service was good. I had the carne asada bowl. The music was good. I will be back soon

Yelp
Service - Me and my dad went in and instantly got seated and our orders taken. We got our drinks within a minute and our food in around 10-15 minutes. Food - You can tell they take their time to make it perfect, we ordered some tacos and they were amazing! Ambiance - The staff is very friendly and will be glad to attend you, there was good music in the background and is a good place to go to have a good time with your family or friends

Yelp
Taco Tuesdays with $2 tacos that taste amazing, say no more! I think I found my Taco Tuesday destination for the rest of this summer and going forward! Great service, vibes and atmosphere. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Third time here for lunch and the tacos de carnitas, pastor and barbacoa hit the spot. With a side order of queso and chips. They have friendly service that is very welcoming. Vibe here is very lively with a twist of some good Mexican music to top off this good restaurant.

Yelp
Beto was the best! He took very good care of me and my friends and was super nice. We came for the fireworks and had a great time with a great view of the show.

Yelp
Always great authentic food. Ambiance is great and makes you feel like you're in the heart of Mexico. My go to for street tacos.

Yelp
....... READ THIS REVIEW ......... Very good food, reasonable prices and fun casual setting. Although I only had a quick lunch there - I'm coming back to try more items. Chicken Quesadilla: Really good! I like them a lot. Handmade tortillas, shredded chicken that is very moist (not greasy), flavorful and perfectly seasoned. White cheddar cheese and perfectly proportioned with to the ratio of chicken. Normal thickness (you don't feel jipped.) Very soft spicy heat at the end (not bad at all, heat is 2 out of 10). Overall score 9 of 10. Service was super fast (3-5 minutes and food was ready). Guacamole is really good. Most add-ons come on the side. If you want to add grilled onions on the inside - order it that way or they are 'on the side'. Also, the lettuce had tomato bits on top along with a full drizzle of sour cream. If you want only lettuce, be clear. Definitely go! I'll be back too!! Total score: 8.5 out of 10 (very casual)

Yelp
Nice place, chill vibes, but the tacos were not so great. I ordered 4 Barbacoa tacos and I barely got through 1 of them. A lot of it was fatty. Luckily I ordered chips and queso, too. The queso was delicious and thankfully so because otherwise, my entire meal would have been a waste. I'm hesitant to come back, but the crowd this place gets is making me think this was a one-off situation. I guess we'll see.

Yelp
Great go to spot for to go tacos! Love the barbacoa and carnitas! The queso is light and the chips are crispy! I forgot to take pictures of the food we ordered, but everyone loved what they got: steak, carnitas, barbacoa tacos, and chicken quesadillas! While we don't visit this place in person frequently, we enjoy the margs and the inviting environment!

Yelp
Met up with my date here...this isn't my favorite place but my daughter likes this spot more than I do. The tacos were chicken, and he had beef (I'm not sure What types of meat) were used. I know I was questioning whether it was real or imitation chicken meat. The drinks are always pretty decent. I wanted the Watermelon Frozen Margarita but that wasn't a selection. I'll return I'm sure but I'm not sure if I'll eat anything maybe grab a few drinks.

Yelp
I have been to this spot couple times!! I haven't been in over one year or so! But this will be the last! The tacos were bad! They were not nasty gross but they were not good at all!! Tacos de carnitas: not good! Lacking flavor! Carnitas was too mushy! Tacos de bistec: too dry lacking flavor Tacos de barbacoa: way way too greasy! Not enough flavor! Corn: no flavor- They charged me twice for my food! The only good thing here was the decor! I was a fan of this place but not no more! Totally disappointed

Yelp
Best elotes when they put extra everything, two manager that take orders delivers amazing customer service

J C.

Yelp
The staff was very kind but I waited almost 20 minutes for 2 to go tacos. A lady came in 10 minutes after me and got her food at the same time. What I don't understand is how a brisket taco with no flavor can be this greasy. Thank goodness for onions and cilantro. Had to squeeze out and just let the grease pour into my to go container. I actually used to love this place but as a Texan....not a good brisket taco but great price...so a little indecisive if I am going to return or not.

Yelp
You have to try their street tacos here. I highly recommend the barbacoa. IT'S SO GOOD! The meat is super juicy and flavorful. It'll transport you south of the border through a culinary and cultural experience. All their tacos are less than $3. Plus, the traditional white corn tortillas are handmade daily in the restaurant. You wouldn't think a Mexican place has a good burger, but the al pastor burger here is quite tasty. For the pineapple lovers, it includes grilled pineapples, which gives it a blend of savory and sweet. It's not a party without margaritas! Make sure to get the frozen mango margarita. It'll hit the spot. If you like a little spicy, try the version with Chamoy!

Yelp
My go-to order: 2 Barbacoa 2 Carnitas 2 Pastor Guac & Chips Maybe I will order two more, Lengua possibly. This location is our favorite for their service and music!
google avatar

Devin C.

Yelp
Pretty good cheap Mexican food, but nothing special. The nachos were a bit bland but the queso definitely made up for it. There was a cool vibe to the restaurant with artwork everywhere. Service was fast, I'd stop by again if I'm in the area.

Yelp
Let me say, I looooove La Ventana. Their downtown and Oak Lawn locations are always happy hour favorites. The addison location did not disappoint. There is much more seating than the Oak Lawn location, good shaded patio too. We ordered a large food delivery this time and they got our complicated 12 person order exactly right, prepared and delivered on time, hot, and CHEAP!!! the entrees were under budget so we were able to get tons of chips and guac for everyone. Definitely will be ordering for the office again soon, and visiting for a margarita soon!
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
Food was ok and salsa was not good. It kind of ruined it for me a Mexican restaurant in my opinion should always have good salsa.
google avatar

Terrance G.

Yelp
This was a spot had been wanting to check out as a hole in the wall taco spot. When you enter it definitely has a different feel from other spots and you'll order directly at the counter and csn place drink there's too, their margaritas are pretty good. They do give you a random name for your order, my name for it was Phillipe lol. I was fine with that but was thrown off when k had to go to the back kitchen where the food came out and pick up my order and deliver it. Just was something different and wasn't told so my food was slightly cold by the time it realized. The Al pastor was very good though and recommend trying that one. Had a light pineapple taste to it

Yelp
This place hits every time, I've been a regular here for about a year now and it's my go to. This is a great place for food and drinks and to just hang out and chat with friends or family. Just walk up to the bar, order, they give you a number, you wait for them to make your drink or grab your jarritos out the fridge, then you take a seat, the food will be served when ready and they take your number. If you want to order more you have to go back up to the bar to order. You pay upfront, you don't have a server here that will take your order and give you a receipt at the end. This makes leaving when you're ready quite lovely. Happy hour here is great, I wish it included flavored margaritas but nevertheless I'm a regular for a reason. Bathrooms are clean. Never have to wait too long. It has its days when it gets packed by service and quality never lacked. I've also ordered them on DoorDash and have nothing bad to say about that either! Try it for yourself and you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Affordable & tasty tacos & margs! Especially love the covered patio at this location. Plenty of seating inside & out.
google avatar

Long B.

Yelp
Overpriced and misleading. Flour tortilla is $0.25 extra per taco but not stated in the menu. Food was mediocre. Not coming back. There are much better taco places in Addison.
google avatar

Lauren R.

Yelp
Overall the food was good and cheap. The tacos were a little small but overall tasted good. If you want some a larger quantity of food, the quesadillas are bigger. I highly suggest getting a frozen margarita while you're there.
google avatar

Richard D.

Yelp
Tacos are cheap, small, and good. Only problem is that they upcharge for absolutely everything and the drinks suck.

Dannielle L.

Yelp
Atmosphere and food was amazing, but the service was even better! Thanks Minta for the excellent suggestions!
google avatar

Princess T.

Yelp
Jerry help me out great food and drinks and love going there after a long day favorite place in Dallas

Trevor H.

Yelp
This location, not sure about all locations, will nickel and dime you. They do not tell that Flour instead of corn is Extra. And they certainly don't tell you that extra onion/cilantro is charged as well. What should have been 16$ for 5 tacos ened up being 21$. The food is good, but it is not worth the price nor the hidden charges
google avatar

Millie V.

Yelp
UPDATE, manager called me back and allowed me to get another bowl on the house. My suggestion is eat at the restaurant! The food comes out better and on point. You will be taking a chance if ordering To Go.
google avatar

Stephen J.

Yelp
There is nothing better than getting a great burrito or quesadilla and this place has exactly that. They have an amazing outdoor space and a full bar to pick from. Their menu is straight forward with your typically offerings like tacos, burritos, and quesadillas with multiple meat options to pick from. What I love is that they also have fresh guacamole and white queso. Growing up on the east coast I love my white queso so glad to have found a place with this options. If you're looking for a no frills place to get some good traditional Mexican food with great drinks with a low-key vibe; this is it.

Kaitlynn A.

Yelp
Great place to eat for cheap. The atmosphere in here is awesome. I love the decor. I love how they use other names to call your order, how fun?! And $3 margaritas 3-6? I'll definitely be back here!
google avatar

Omar G.

Yelp
Great casual taco place. Can't go wrong with any of the tacos and love the tamarindo margaritas.
google avatar

ravi c.

Yelp
We stopped by for lunch on sunday afternoon. First time to this location. Ordered Potato Egg and cheese taco, Chorizo Egg and cheese taco, Chips and Queso, veggie Bowl, Pollo Taco and elotes. Potato was barely seasoned, Chorizo taco, Chips and queso and elotes were awesome. Pollo Taco and veggie Bowl were meh. We also ordered Churro as separate order for which we were never called for 10 mins until we asked

Alberto P.

Yelp
Excellent service, food and very nice people. They treated us so well. I totally recommend this restaurant.
google avatar

May G.

Yelp
I got carnitas burrito and my partner got steak quesadilla. My friend got the tacos. The burrito had a lot of beans, which I didn't like. The steak was kind of dry.
google avatar

Sydney W.

Yelp
Love love LOVE this place! My fiancé and I are obsessed with it and go often. We've brought our friends, family, coworkers, and every time it becomes everyone's new favorite spot. The best is that they stay open late. Forever customers right here, nothing negative to say
google avatar

Abbey K.

Yelp
Stopped in to try this place for a drink ! they have cheap margaritas only about five dollars. It tasted pretty good for only $5. I would come back for the drinks and the patio which is dog friendly. We got the queso as well however it was served with stale chips.

Garrett W.

Yelp
Not even close to the quality of the Dallas location. I'd only come here to drink the food is just not good.

Grant R.

Yelp
Just not really a good burrito at all. Salsa was meh too and I couldn't even chew through some of the pieces of meat
google avatar

Frank N.

Yelp
7/30/22: First time here. There was plenty of parking available. When you enter is like being transported to a restaurant south of the border. There was plenty of seating inside and several outdoor eating areas. My fiancée and I decided to sit in the bar/patio area. Daniel was bartending and he was a great host. He was very patient with our questions about the food menu items and he made a good Margarita. The draft beer is pretty cold. We had a couple of burritos and chips with guacamole. They have a spicy hot sauce that has a nice kick to it. While this location appeared unassuming, the food and the service were like being at a down home restaurant. We enjoyed our food and drink, along with the general atmosphere. Would definitely return!
google avatar

Ashley C.

Yelp
Hands down, the BEST place for street tacos! So obsessed with this place. They do street tacos right...a little cilantro and onions is all you need. You can't go wrong with any of the choices, but the Camaron is definitely the best. Grab some chips and salsa, a michelada and a churro, too. My fav!
google avatar

Andrew A.

Yelp
The barbacoa was tasty but its consistency was bit mushy and watery. The Al pastor was a tad bland. Might have been looking at an old menu, but they did not have charro beans only black beans, which were good.

David A.

Yelp
I have to say being from So.Cal and down here on a business trip this place does not disappoint when it comes to their food. Wide range of meat offerings but definitely a must try is their pastor and tongue taco! If you never tried Mexican street corn in a cup order that as well. Inside eating area is small but feels like your in a TJ taco place (my So,Cal people will know what this means)
google avatar

Melissa M.

Yelp
This place was packed!!! I got the vegan tacos which were made with squash and onion. These were so great! I ate three at the restaurant, and I loved them so much I bought three more to take home to eat later. I will be back in the future.
google avatar

Yelp
Been checking out Taqueria la ventana for a couple of months now on Instagram and decides to give them a try. Their tacos look amazing and now I can say that they taste amazing too! Their tacos are simple--corn tortillas filled with meat, onions, cilantro, and lime wedges on the side, but that is all you need. I took my first bite and I do not think I stopped until I got to the last one. Every bite was better than the last. I love that they have put a modern spin and feel on the street taco and still have kept it authentic and delicious. Another best was the service. The ladies behind the counter were so nice and just made me feel right at home. The food comes out fast, like super fast!! Minus one star because the margarita was a little watery and the taco meat could be a little less salty. Overall I plan to come back soon.

Ryan G.

Yelp
I did not take a picture of the food because I did not want to write a negative review however, after the manager took away our plates, she changed my mind. Order was 3 Barbacoa tacos and a barbacoa quesadilla. Both trays were lined with parchment paper. The amount of oil on both tortillas was absurd. The paper and tray were soaked in clear oil, the tortillas not toasted and were soggy from oil. The manager told us this was due to barbacoa being fatty. She also admit the food was low quality. She claimed this was not cooking oil however I am doubtful. We could not finish our meals and asked that we would not be charged. We took one bite and tried to use napkins to soak up the grease. The manager charged us for our drinks. I'm not asking for free food or anything free however their standards for Mexican cuisine are so incredibly low. Hands covered in oil. Upset stomach from oil. Low quality food and argumentative management.
google avatar

Steven B.

Yelp
This is an affordable joint for on the spot Mexican. It's very simple, but the food and drink are all reasonably priced and hit the spot.

Gabe F.

Yelp
My comment was in the heat of the moment. I love this place and it deserves 7/5 stars. Simple misunderstanding, I appreciate the response!
google avatar

Renisha S.

Yelp
I've heard great things about this place especially with margarita prices. They have $3.75 for regular margaritas and $4 for whatever the seasonal margarita is. It was my first time going so I wanted to try a variety. I got 2 tacos (barbacoa and steak), chips and queso and a seasonal margarita. For starters the margarita was amazing and it comes in a big cup for the price. And the queso was so good. They put a twist on their queso by adding pineapples, which surprisingly works very well. I actually wish that the queso came in a bigger size like a bowl or have small, medium, large options because it honestly was so small that I was finish with it within 6 bites. Now the tacos I didn't like at all! They are small, the corn tortillas are thin so they get soggy really quick. Soon as I picked mine up all the meat fell through and that immediately ruined my meal. What a disappointment! But I did try my friends shrimp quesadilla and it was very good so now I know to go the quesadilla route over the tacos. For it to be small there is more than enough seating. You order at one area and they give you a name that they will call when your food is ready and you pick it up. You can sit inside, on the covered patio around the bar or even on the picnic tables on the patio that isn't cover if you want some sun.
google avatar

Yelp
Idk why people dock stars from this place. I moved to Germany and still managed to make it out to my favorite taco spot in Dallas. I will say that tacos Al pastor used to be my favorite and recently the quality on that went down, but I still think this place is worth the visit The vibes are immaculate. You get to enjoy your tasty meal while enjoying the perfect Dallas skyline. The music is great. The staff is friendly helpful. They recently added a second window to order which was much needed - they're so popular that the line often goes past the end of the building, but they sped up the wait time. Seating is only outdoor so definitely come when the weather is nice for a perfect girls night or dinner date. Everything is delicious. The guac, yummy chips, the drinks are delicious and at a good price point (come during happy hour for an even more economical evening) and the tacos are great. I'm not vegetarian but I loved the calabacitas taco. Also loved the shrimp taco and I always make sure to get Al pastor when I come!! If you have extra hunger, definitely get the burrito. One of the most delicious things - they're huge though so make sure you have space for it or you share!! Also get their sangria swirl margarita. One of the most delicious I've had without the price tag of a main course. But the reason I'm here - to promote the churros. Easily the best I've had in all of Texas. You HAVE to order them!!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Found this spot for late night dinner. I ordered food online and took it to go. It's a nice spot with seating area outside and a bar which opens up to the outside as well. The service was good. The tacos were a little small but filling and delicious. The elotes was out of this world. The best I've ever had even though that's not saying much. It felt very comforting and decadent.
