Taqueria Los Altos

The small quesadilla is more like a taco. It’s really good. I had it with fajita chicken. I also got a side of guacamole, which was maybe four dollars and I had it with the quesadilla. My friend got the large quesadilla and it was very, very large large enough to have a lot of leftovers and I don’t believe it was very expensive either The steak fajita is really really good and the individual tacos are a decent deal We had just seen the new Tron movie next-door, and I kind of felt like I was still in the movie because the lights were so bright here. It was honestly kind of a strange atmosphere, but the service was impeccable.

We recently tried a restaurant near the movie theater, and I was pleasantly surprised by both the service and the food. The portions were generous and everything was delicious. We’ll definitely be coming back! Even without a reservation, we were seated right away. 💯

I'm a regular here, both for breakfast and lunch, and I can't say enough good things about this Mexican restaurant! The food is consistently super fresh, hot, and absolutely delicious. My absolute favorite? The chicken green enchiladas – they're always perfect. The waitstaff are incredibly friendly and attentive, making every visit a pleasure. I genuinely admire this restaurant; the cleanliness is always top-notch, and the overall experience is consistently excellent. Highly recommend!

Omg the food is SO GOOD & AFFORDABLE PRICES. LARGE PORTIONS. I had a taco de pastor and a torta de asada I added egg and cilantro y cebolla. Omg it melt3d in my mouth. The corn tortillas was doubled but so soft and pillowy its literally tasted like heaven. Not to mention when u walk in , its so beautiful it even looks like heaven a little. When you first go in there you will see what I mean, after you taste the food, you will know what I mean 😉 the staff are all sweet and very hospitable. I didnt feel like an outsider which is a plus. Even the customers eating there were cute. Just all around great experience

April 2025: They will not give you tap water. You have to buy a bottle of water. That said, the chips and salsa are free, the salsa was relatively spicy hot. Will probably go back, but would not want to pay full price, meaning I think in general it should be a little cheaper for what you get across the board. Probably worth it for the specials, if you're deliberately target the best deals. They have some pretty decent specials if you come at the right time / the right day. See photos for daily specials. All of the meats they did really well, I got the fajitas which was what waitress said was one of the favorites, in fact, the only one she named when asked. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and the chicken was good. Plate was large and there was a lot of food, it came with another plate with sour cream, a tiny bit of guac, salad, rice, beans. Although menu says rice and rice, haha. Got the queso, very mediocre, this definitely needs improvement. Everything other than the meat, was also decent, but not wonderful. Ended up being a pretty good meal, but could use some improvement with the guac, queso. Flavoring of other things such as beans. They have no draft beer, but only bottles and cans, these are relatively inexpensive $4+ to $6+. Their cocktails are a bit more expensive, $10+ But likely a bit more. My friend got a custom flavored margarita, it was very mediocre tasting, but decorated nicely. Not particularly inexpensive. I'd stay away from the mixed beverages, and probably get a beer. They have a big parking lot, so no worries on parking. The atmosphere is awkwardly well lit. They have nice tables and chairs, but almost no booths, it's almost like a nice McDonald's with occasional colorful LED lights, haha there's also a weird stage there in the venue. Makes me wonder if they do karaoke... Or if that stage was there when they got the place. Atmosphere could certainly use some improvement. Probably just dimmer lighting would help a lot.

Well, it's your typical Tex-Mex dining spot; there are many restaurants in Texas that do this type of food well. For me, the subtle differences are what separate an average Tex-Mex restaurant from a great one, and this is a solid, good restaurant. The food has good flavors, and the portions are just right—not too little and not too much. The waitresses are courteous and polite. Service is fast and prompt. It’s a clean restaurant with plenty of parking. A perfect place to hang out and enjoy good company and good food in a casual atmosphere.

Had a friends birthday dinner last minute here, the food was delicious and the drinks were great! Highly recommend the cantarito and the carne asada with nopalitos. We felt bad getting there an hour before close with 11 people but the servers were welcoming and attentive regardless. The food came out fast too! Warm and correct! They have a stage and a karaoke setup, looks like a great time! They even put on Las Mañanitas for our friend with a delicious flan dessert! Will return soon and will recommend to everyone I know!

Their New place is so lovely. Super clean. Lots more space and parking.By far the Best tacos and salsa in Austin. Best prices too! You definitely have to try it out! Convenient location right off hwy 35 close to galaxy theatre.

Aesthetically pleasing. It was a very big, very clean, and not a lot of customers (which is sometimes a sign, judge for yourself). Service was fine, maybe a bit slow. It does make me chuckle when at a Spanish speaking restaurant and they use the informal you instead of formal. That's nothing to quibble over, but worth noting if you care about those distinctions. They still took care of things, although our server left without telling us. The food is affordable but not particularly high quality or flavorful. I would say Chuy's has more flavor. I did like their chips and salsa. I do like to play it safe and get whatever they call the TexMex combo of enchiladas and tacos and whatever else. Now that was a lot of cheese! Portions were adequate. The water glasses are big, but it does drive me crazy when you have to pay for a soda by the can. My partner had a dessert but didn't mention it as particularly special or anything.

We loved the old location but this new one is awesome! The same friendly staff are there to keep that coffee flowing for breakfast. Like the previous place, there is plenty of parking. Now you can walk over to the movie theater after or before a meal. I had my favorite three of a kind breakfast tacos. The salsa was nice and had medium high heat. Everything tasted great. We really want to come back for their lunch or dinner to try more of their menu and some of those adult beverages. Yum!

mediocre hidden mexican spot, nothing special nothing bad just satisfactory. when we visited they ran out of water which was weird and didn't offer us free bottled water, so we ate our meal without water. chips and sals were complimentary. i got the three tacos and did enjoy it however was sad about having no water. will definitely return with hopes that they have water!

It's unfortunate that highway construction forced a move, but I have been very happy with their original location and expect it to be just fine at its new place. I've mostly visited here for breakfast, and have been served well each time. A must for an enjoyable breakfast is frequent checks for coffee refills, and they consistently deliver. We also have great variety in the breakfast menu, including nopales (cactus) as an ingredient option. A nice quiet place to eat - televisions are set at a sane volume, unlike so many places that encourage turnover via excessive noise.

Nostalgia. This place is very laid back and has a vibe like an old school Mexican get together. Or maybe we just got lucky but they are jammin and people are just enjoying themselves here. The food honestly is very sold especially the combination plate of asada and pastor. Once again felt like my Tia made a plate and served it up. The only thing I would say could be better is the tortillas. They are those Tia Rosa store bought ones, but other than that it's solid. I just ended up eating the meat and taco stuff with the bomb chips they have. Everything was honestly great here from the service, food and vibes. Stop by and grab a bite to eat if you are in the neighborhood.

Headed to watch a movie at AFS and came across this gem. My wife has been craving a Tostado, and there was none to be found in the southwest of Austin ! We came across it by accident while waiting to go watch a movie, but will come here on purpose next time. I ordered the chicken enchiladas with green salsa. Super cheesy and filling! Minor complaints: never thought I'd say this, but I'd prefer a little less cheese. The salsa verde got lost in it. The chicken in the enchiladas also didn't seem seasoned. It is nothing some salsa can't fix; I prefer tinga style chicken in my enchiladas and that's basically what adding the salsa made it. The chips and salsa could be improved but they got the job done. Overall, I liked the generous portions of good food at great prices, the welcoming service, and nicely remodeled interior.

Okay -- the food here was fabulous but I couldn't get past how poorly maintained the building was. I got a delicious ground beef burrito with heavenly rice & beans while my friend got a toco plate that looked even better than what I got. While the food and the service were both far better than I would have imagined, the ceiling, the walls, the windows, and virtually everything else was so run down and dirty that it was hard to enjoy. The dirt hanging from the HVAC diffusers was so thick that I wouldn't dare sit below it. The men's room had a ceiling roof leak above it that made it impossible to use the toilet. I loved the food but the building was just too much of a train wreck to really enjoy my visit.

Went right after work - had the place to ourselves. Excellent service. Tasty food. Surprisingly good fries. Recommended.

Food was good! We went for breakfast and both had migas. My husband had coffee which liked (not too strong). The restaurant was clean and the staff was very attentive but not overly so.

Best Mexican food in town! We order different plates each time and have never been disappointed. My favorite is the carne asada plate or the tortilla soup and they are not stingy on the portions. My husband loves the chilaquile plate or the alambre which is carne asada, chicken fajita and sausage with peppers, onions and Monterrey jack on top. They have daily lunch specials for weekdays and happy hour specials as well. But their regular drinks have great prices. If you like birria, the tacos de adobada (Jalisco style BBQ) are very similar. Chips and salsa are free starting at 11 am. They have horchata, tamarindo, & jamaica. They also give you red tomatillo salsa and green jalapeño salsa in bottles! They recently moved to a new location in the same shopping center as Galaxy Theatres on Middle Fiskville Rd. Go try it out!

A classic establishment with very enjoyable food. The service was very nice and sweet to my party of 6 ! We just finished a 5K today and they were the sweetest people you could've met. The food (carne guisado plate) was a filling meal and was so visually appealing that a neighboring table ordered it as well. In fact, that gentleman was nice enough to spot our whole meal. Service was nice and quick Drinks were good as well and my menudo was delicious. I added the 2 toasted chiles to mine but whoooo they were very spicy!!! But a good spicy had me in a sweat Looked lonely from outside but once inside different atmosphere :)

Y'all. Los Altos has a new location and it is fantastic! Next door to Galaxy Movie theater. Grab dinner and drinks and then a movie! Lots of parking, shiny clean, and the food is still great! To go Or dine in. The salsas are solid and house made. Speedy and courteous service. Generous portions. Reasonable prices and now a full bar. We had the caldo de res and pollo a la plancha. I have had the two meat combo plate and verde chicken enchiladas, as well. Even their iced tea is very good. Come by and see their new location, you will leave satisfied!

It's hard finding an authentic and affordable tacqueria spot in Austin. Los Altos is definitely a hidden gem right off the freeway. There's plenty of parking, seating, and is never super packed. You seat yourself and the service is super quick with free chips and salsa. Th We ordered the tacos de barbacoa adoba and the tacos de campechanos is very filling and flavorful. They definitely don't skimp on the meat. Each dish comes with salsa de roja and a salsa de avocado in a condiment bottle and we drowned our dish with the avo

The water isn't free. Upon request of an "ice water" we were informed they only sold bottled water. What?

first time here by accident. My daughter and I visited yesterday and I had the carne asada tacos and my daughter did too. Loved them! My daughter also had the chicken quesadilla and loved it also. Thank you for the great experience!

I read that this is a hidden gem and I am leaving this review to confirm that it is in fact a hidden gem. Quite small dining room and tucked in on the feeter road. Very affordable and a grand variety of options. Vegetarian options available. I got the carne guisada and the actual meat entree was a 6/10 for me. Only because the sauce was too thick for my liking; however the rice and beans here are superb. Almost better than my moms! and that's saying a lot. They were perfect. The chilaquiles plate was so big and flavorful. Meat was so tender and thin. I didnt take a picture of the tacos but they were amazing. Huge and loaded. Campechanos were the best. Food was great at very good price. Service could have been better but they were okay. Not too much attentiveness.

So yummy, just looking at the picture I took of my food when I ate there is making me want it again. It was definitely a greasy meal, maybe a tad greasier than I am comfortable with, but maybe that contributed to why the food tasted so good. Prices are reasonable, and food seems pretty authentic! I'll be back when I want to (over)indulge again.

A true hidden gem! Found this place on my way back home. Little sketched out by the location but that's how you know the food is gonna slap! Enchiladas rancheros were tasty! Service was very good. Will return when they move to their new location!

Best asada tacos in town. They always have a telenovela on and the chips and salsa are fresh and constantly refilled.

I have now been here for breakfast and lunch and I can say that this place is one of my newfound favorite holes in the wall. I had the pancake platter and a chorizo, egg, potato taco for breakfast last weekend and it was all incredible. The unsweet tea is sooo good here! I had the tacos campechanos for lunch three weeks ago and was blown away. Their salsa verde is incredible. The wait staff is amazing! They offer a discount if you pay with cash.

Been looking for some authentic and cheap Mexican breakfast plates, like those at Vasquez. I was thrilled to find this place within walking distance, and thrilled to see their breakfast menu (sometimes you just need more than. Breakfast tacos!) Los Altos more than delivered! Delicious potatoes, beans, Mexican style eggs, and those tortillas... yum!! My friends did get the breakfast tacos, which they said were delicious. Great little local spot - go show them some love!

This is a hidden gem. I came here with a group of friends and this restaurant was walking distance from our hotel. We came here because of the good rating on Yelp and it did not fail us. The food was very flavorful and extremely inexpensive. I had the combo plate and it was very delicious. Don't let the appearance of the restaurant fool you because inside they provided great service and are very attentive. I enjoyed the food so much that I came here twice.

Know where you are going, but be ready to have a real meal, fast service authentic food. Fresh chips were a good start. Smells like a truck stop rest area

Watch the prices, online prices from menu don't reflect what you get charged! Also if you pay credit card they have an extra charge no matter the amount. I'd order the barbacoa plate from the online menu it said was $8.99, when I got my bill was $13.99 not including taxes and credit card hidden charge, shady! I showed the lady the price they had online and she couldn't care less, I strongly believe she had to honor that price as good business practice, and she responded: "if you want it". Not a problem I paid it, I'm just not coming back, the truth is the Mexican food they serve is not that good. This is call to let the owners know the shady business practices their employees are practicing. It will cost you business in the long run.

I've ordered breakfast thru the Favor app. This is also my first time using both Favor and this restaurant. I've ordered 2 menudo, 1 Barbacoa taco, 2 carne guisada tacos and 1 beef steak torta. The food itself was good and tasty. But, be very aware of how much it will cost you for using both Favor and this restaurant for delivery. The initial order was around $28 ($26.27 food, $1.98 est. Taxes). The restaurant billed my card $35.42 ($7 difference). Did see $1.28 for service fee, but missing $5 for something that's not included in the receipt. Favor automatically charges a 9% ($3.19) fee on the receipt for Favor to operate. Favor then charges a $6 delivery fee and I gave a $3 delivery tip. Whew...after all of that, I end up paying $47.61 for everything. So expect to pay an extra $20 to have your order to be delivered.

It's really a shame the way that a single taco component can turn a great taco in to an extremely mediocre one. This is the kind of place you want to love, and again, my review is based on a single taco. But tacos are the epicenter of TLA, and they could be perfect. The fajita taco I had was simply ruined by the supermarket-grade "shelf stable" flour tortilla that encased the delicious insides. They use a "Mission" or "Old El Paso"-type flour tortilla. In Austin! I hope most everything else is great and I will definitely return. But I'm just shocked about that tortilla. And not to pile on, but the red salsa fresca tasted an awful lot like it was the "mild" variety from HEB. They were out of green salsa, too. Wish I could overlook those details, but in this town there is a base level of excellence beneath which no Tex-Mex, Interior Mex, South Texas, Nortena, or any other kind of Mexican establishment should ever go. But unbelievably, there are Taco Bells in Austin, so what do I know?

Before i start my review I have to say few things about the place. I understand that is a old building but not because is old you shouldn't CLEAN IT the inside was dirty and the walls were splashed with stains of who knows what, the restrooms were in bad shape and most of the whole place needs some deep cleaning for sure, Now the food was ok nothing really special about it, but if I have to score from 0 to 10 I'll give them a 5.

Best authentic Mexican eatin in Atx. Being from south Texas and moving to Austin, I can't eat torchys or any other garbage, over priced, austinized Mexican food. Every single time I've gone to Los Altos, I've had an amazing experience. The staff is very sweet and the service is always fast. I recommend this restaurant to every person I meet as it's the only real Mexican food I can get near campus. Breakfast is my go to for sure, getting there before 11am is ideal for the price. Chips and salsa, straight cash. The salsa just smacks and it's a great hangover cure too. I'll go to Los Altos as long as it is open and I am in Austin, or just passing by.

Los Altos has served up quality eats every time I've popped in over the last few years. The food has good flavor I sometimes find lacking in comparable Mexican kitchens. Recommended.

Came here with 3 of my buddies to check out Austin, Texas! We decided to grab breakfast and we got 4 chorizo with egg taco and and 4 Mexican sausage with egg taco and 2 potato and chorizo tacos. All of them were delicious! We particularly liked Mexican sausage because of the flavoring and the potato was seasoned really well! People were friendly to us. they have amazing food and very fast service, such kind people, it's real authentic mexican food. such a peaceful environment.

I've been coming here recently as I started working nearby. I am so impressed with the quality of the pastor tacos and get them weekly now. I also tried the steak tacos and the stewed beef last week and never disappointed. Quick service and ambiance is a little dated but that's when you know, this is authentic as can be.

Bottom Line Up Front: The food is not very good, and the facility is totally filthy. Totally gross. The only reason this place gets two stars is bc the food was... OK. The prices are a bit cheaper than other, fancier TexMex spots in the area ($8-11 per plate), but the quality is way lower. It's completely empty. Red flag number 1. The waiter was nice enough, but told me she didn't know what was good bc "I never eat here." Red flag number 2. The chips and salsa were stacked in a massive pile, pre-sorted. All that food had most likely been sitting out for a few days. Red flag number 3. As I was eating, I looked up at the ceiling and noticed a rug's worth of black mold growing out from the vents and across the roof. Disgusting.

Not Bad, but have had better. Bang for your Buck is all in at less then $20 for a full meal. Chips were crisp, Queso was OK... Salsa was decent. All around things lacked flavor...Being our first time, we start with the basics...Chiladas in the house!!..Chicken for me, Beef for the wife...Mine, Although it was smothered in gooey cheese...Green sauce for me lacked in heat, and flavor..Whole chicken was a plus..but found a few small bones..rice was just rice..Beans were a bit tart, yes tart...I stayed clear of those...just didnt taste right...Wifes Beef lacked flavor, and also covered in gooey cheese. I really was hoping for a better experience, based on other reviews, but that didnt happen today..
