Los Altos is THE TRUTH.
I live down the street from Los Altos and I'm ashamed how long it took for me to eat there. Learn from my mistake! Go today! Order a million tacos!
The space is small and snug. Due to COVID, more than half of the tables are unavailable for seating to adhere to social distancing measures. Keep this in mind and tip well, as I can't imagine the hit this tiny place has taken over the last several months.
Chips and salsa are delivered within moments of being seated. The chips aren't much to write home about, but I'm a huge fan of the salsa. It's mild, but bursting with flavor. As long as you keep eating, the chips and salsa keep coming.
If you're down for an appetizer, I highly recommend the shrimp cocktail. It's served in a giant margarita glass, packed full of shrimp, avocado, tomatoes, and cilantro. It's light, refreshing, and flavorful. Pile those shrimp on a chip or a cracker and go to town.
LOS ALTOS MAKES THEIR TORTILLAS IN HOUSE. I don't mean to shout, but it's not so easy to find fresh, handmade corn tortillas. They're wonderful, soft, and pliable. They support your taco perfectly so you don't need to double up and throw off your tortilla-to-filling ratio. My favorites are the chorizo and the birria tacos. Honestly, I hardly order anything else because the tacos are SO good.
Each time we've been, there has been one employee in the kitchen, and one waiting tables/taking orders/running the register. Be patient. Again, tip well. The prices here are more than reasonable so don't cheap out on the gratuity line.
If real deal Mexican spots are your thing, Los Altos is a must. If you're more into Tex-Mex, no shame there, but this place might not be for you. I do promise that if you're one of the unfortunate souls that think cilantro tastes like soap, you might have a bad time here.
Support local business, and pig out on tacos. Everybody wins.
