The 16 Best Restaurants In Cancun

"Los Chacalacos should be your go-to spot for a quick taco lunch—they offer a ton of options that are all delicious. Get the bistec, chorizo, or vegetarian gringas, and pair them with an ice-cold Corona. They have different locations around Cancun, but if you’re looking for lunch with a view, come to this one in the Hotel Zone. It’s not a bad place to hang out for a bit, but you can also take them back to your hotel room to eat in bed while you watch a few hours of House Hunters." - barbara gutierrez

Google
Loved the food! They are open until 12pm and that’s exactly what I needed! My server Carlos Vela was super nice and always ready to assist!

Google
The service at this restaurant was absolutely amazing, and Marvin deserves a special shout-out for being so attentive and ensuring our food arrived quickly. Every single thing we ordered was very tasty. The fish taco was hands down one of the best I've ever had, and the steak taco was equally fantastic. To top it all off, they had great salsas on the table for us to use and their horchata and lemonade with Yerba buena were absolutely delicious. I'm thoroughly impressed with everything this restaurant does! Update. We visited again and the steak was poorly cooked. It was a grey color like it was boiled or overcooked. They were less busy this time, but didn’t seem interested in helping us. This is something they could have corrected when I brought it to their attention. They simply said it’s what I ordered. Marvin wasn’t there when we came so maybe he is the key ingredient to a positive experience here.

Google
I like their tacos but their pico de gallo is pretty much just onion, needs more of the other ingredients. Also, they need to make it clear when they offer you guacamole and let you know the price ahead, they continue to offer it but the way they offer it, they make it seem as if it was complimentary but its not. Service is great! The guys are checking on you all the time which is big plus.

Google
Food was great, Ambience was great and Eduardo gave us great service. Good Mexican restaurant experience. The cantaritas were amazing. I would comeback again.

Google
The food was very delicious and the items looked very appetizing. I really loved that they offered appetizers and the selection of sauces are in order of spicy levels really recommend to try it out !! Great selection of food !!

Google
I had an amazing experience at Chachalacos La Isla thanks to Carlos! From the moment we arrived, he made us feel welcome with his friendly attitude and professional service. He was attentive without being intrusive, gave us great recommendations, and made sure everything was perfect throughout our meal. The food was absolutely delicious — fresh, full of flavor, and served promptly. You can really tell the team takes pride in both the service and the food quality. Carlos made our visit even more enjoyable, and we will definitely be coming back because of him. Thank you, Carlos, for your outstanding service and for making our dining experience so memorable!

Google
Went here after a late arrival into Cancun. We were hot and tired so just needed something to put on our stomach. Waiter was attentive and explained menu and assortment of sauces/toppings brought to the table. Food was okay...we had fried cheese, tacos pasto, steak nachos and a steak burrito but it lacked seasoning but that could be my american taste buds.. The margaritas we're.pretty but very weak. Probably won't go back but my teenage Boys might...its a late night spot

Yelp
Carrillo was excellent in his service and offered great recommendations. We were amazed by the variety of sauces. The complimentary nachos and guacamole was delicious. Loved the tacos: shrimp, fish and Pastor. Horchata was a good choice to balance the spiciness of the tacos. Grilled banana dessert looked interesting. We were too full to try this time ;)

Yelp
Absolutely terrible service. My family left a tip and the waiter wouldn't let us leave until we tipped him MORE money because he "needed to pay the rest of the workers." He got multiple parts of our order wrong. We didn't even get our drinks until 20 minutes after sitting down - and we had to ASK twice after ordering our drinks. This place an absolute scam, don't go here. WORST restaurant I've been to in Cancun.

Yelp
Right off of the hotel zone area, this place seems to be a better spot for local tacos. Of course with tourist pricing I thought the food were just "aight". Its open air facility, which means no a/c. I can only imagine how hot it'll be in the summer. They do this thing where after they take your drink orders, they'll bring the drinks out with a buncha of chips/queso/salsa, only to understand that if you agree to take it, they'll charge you a premium amount for it. Generally this stuff is free (Minus the queso). However props to them for having a huge range of hot sauces they bring out with your tacos. I got their pork torta, which surprisingly wasn't bad at all. Their tacos were decent, but they were enhanced by extra cilantro, onion and hot sauces. Pricing was better than US, but way more expensive for Mexican standards. Definitely being part of the hotel zone, they try to maximize their profits. Which I don't really care for. None of the less, I had a good time and price was reasonable (Not cheap). Props for having high chairs? Yeah I'm at the bottom of the barrel for compliments.

Yelp
Solid place for dinner in the hotel zone. Lots of items to choose from! I ordered 3 pastor tacos and a mango margarita. Service was fast and if you're not full you can definitely order more later. Loved the variety of sauces to choose from.

Yelp
Best thing we ate in Cancun! Great bang for your buck AND the food was delicious. Must order: queso fundido with chorizo, fish tacos, Al pastor tacos, churros, horchata Queso fundido with chorizo: delicious and cheesy, oily but out of this world. Came with tortillas Fish tacos: perfectly fried and seasoned. Other joints don't salt or season their fish tacos. The chipotle sauce pairs perfectly Al pastor: best taco meat. Comes with pineapple slices Churros: freshly fried, Dulce de leche is delicious Sauces: they have a variety of salsas that range from mild to spicy. Add so much flavor to the tacos Skip: carne asada, banana with Dulce de leche, skip the chocolate for churros and get Dulce de leche Customer service: amazing. Fast, friendly Bathrooms on site Fed 8 people for $80 USD Highly recommend. So good we had to come back a second time before we left!

Yelp
Great location and signage but the food falls short. Beans pureed and served cold. Tortillas were nothing special and mediocre. Tortillas fell apart when eating the tacos. Guacamole and chips delicious with a nice presentation. Sauces delicious. Churros better tasing from Pollo Loco. Service was great but bland carne asada chicken tacos, rice and beans. Drinks looked good too but I didn't order one. Prices were fair.

Yelp
I will start this review off with the Ambiance. The restaurant is not big 15-18 tables and definitely had an intimate vibe. It is open air so don't expect AC. The trompo is cooked hot and fresh in front of you. The service was absolutely amazing. Our waiter was very attentive and always followed up if we needed anything. The food came out hot and fast. I don't think we were waiting more than 5 mins after we ordered. I saved the best for last; the food! I ordered 6 pastor tacos, and 3 steak tacos. My son ordered a chicken torta. My daughter ordered chicken tostadas volcanos. My wife ordered steak nachos. The pastor tacos were definitely the highlight and were incredibly delicious. The tortillas were home made and paired perfectly with the pastor. The steak was good but the pastor was better. To finish off the dinner we ordered churros and a plantain. The churros were crips on the outside and soft in the middle. They came with chocolate dipping sauce and it was great. The plantain was also very good. We Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Price/quality (4/4): I came here on more than 1 occasion and ordered multiple different items, including 2 soups and most if not all of the tacos on the menu. They were all amazing. The drinks were great too. Service (1/1): Service was friendly and effective. Would I come here again: If I go to Cancun again, absolutely.

Yelp
Terrible service. Racist employees. How are you going to make customer pay you for exploiting them for your own sick feelings of racial superiority? We came into the shop filled with excitement as we were looking forward to tasting tacos in Mexico for the first time. When we walked in, the place was quiet, no one greeted us so we walked back to where the chef was and said hi. Before I had an opportunity to ask the chef about where to sit, I heard an incredibly massive inhumane and animalistic scream. It was so loud, every diner, every person walking out in the street stopped and looked in pure shock. I turned around and notice it came from the waiter. I could feel the blood drain from my face at this point. Once turned facing him, the first thing he says when he opened his mouth was "do you need a bathroom? Do you need take out? I am beyond in shock. This is the first taqueria that I've ever been to in the entire world that greets customers like this. This place must have golden toilets that help you shoot out golden poop because that's the first thing he asked when customers first walk in. When it was time to pay the bill, the other waiter glared at us like we are beneath him and tampered with the machine and left us no option to leave 0 tips! I should've left as soon as the first waiter inhumanly screamed at us. Originally came to Mexico for therapeutic reasons and now I'm going back to the states with an urgent need to see therapy after this. Please come here if you find joy in paying to experience frequent jumps from your seat from unexpected screaming while eating your over priced mediocre tacos. Ultimate best place to experience customer exploitation, racism and exclusion. Halloween might be the best time to come here. This place will have you jumping out of your seat.

Yelp
We chose this place because it was the closest restaurant from our stay in Cancun and it was opened at 10:30pm on the arrival day. They were friendly and foods were very good too. My kids recall this place is the one of the best food they had during our stay.

Liz M.

Yelp
DO NOT EAT HERE UNLESS YOU ARE A LOCAL! 18 tacos, 2 jamaicas, 2 of their cheapest tequila shots and two bottles of water was $100!!! THEE MOST EXPENSIVE TACOS IN TOWN!!!! They have the tourist menu (3x's the price) and their local menus. And they don't cook their meat well enough! We had to return an order because the meat was raw!
google avatar

Alyana S.

Yelp
The Taqeria was one of my favorite spots to visit when in Cancun! They have many options on their venue. I loved their tacos especially! It's fresh and I love the toppings they added to it such as the pineapple. Plus their chips and guacamole were delicious and same with the Leche flan! It's a great spot to visit and the service is quick. Plus there's plenty of seating for big groups too! Highly recommend stopping by!

Jessica T.

Yelp
Pics looked better than it tasted. Great service tho :( Ambience is nice. Won't consider coming here for authentic Mexican food
google avatar

Yelp
Food was amazing - we just had to stop here again this trip as well. Highly recommend this place.

Yelp
My husband said his food was "good but not amazing." Mine was edible, but unfortunately, by the time we got back to the Airbnb, I wasn't feeling great. Then I was violently ill. Was it the food or the ice in my daiquiri??
google avatar

Paul R.

Yelp
Food was delicious and plentiful; the service was good and quick and the ambiance was very nice. Bim was very nice and professional.
google avatar

Becky K.

Yelp
Food was amazing!!! Second day in Cancun. The best Baja fish tacos!! Please add all the condiments they bring to your table. I highly recommend the guacamole salsa with an additional salsa of choice. Also I highly recommend the Paloma( Tequila and Fresa) made fresh! You can also add a additional shot with this as they serve you the whole soda and pour the tequila right in front of you
google avatar

Marcy C.

Yelp
Awesome place to grab tacos. They have all kinds of tacos on the menu. The costras are a "keto"option and the tostadas with guac and nopal with cheese are yummy meatless option. We ordered the pastor tacos that come with pieces of pineapple so good! They bring three sauces and the typical onion and cilantro with limes. We ordered a couple of each of the meat tacos and the volacanes. See pics.
google avatar

Rachelle C.

Yelp
Closest to street tacos without having to travel far from hotel and beach. Pastor was so delish with the pineapple and Jamaica with ginger was refreshing.

Inam A.

Yelp
The food here is genuinely on another level. Me and my family ordered a variety of things and the tacos were loaded with meat. The flank steak was delicious but this shrimp taco was probably the best thing. Tortillas are made fresh in house and you can see the lady making it. The server was incredibly sweet and was very attentive to the table. The look of the restaurant was also really nice, providing a very beautiful view of the Hotel Zone. All in all, one of the best restaurants I have ever been too, and I hope I can come back soon.
google avatar

Miche R.

Yelp
Friendly service, good food and great price! Highly recommend. My favorite was the pastor tacos
google avatar

Yelp
Food is Bland and the Margarita is blended ice with Margarita mix only. Don't waste your money

Yelp
We loved it. Not quite as good as El Fagon' in Playa Del Carman, but damn close. For those of us that had not been to El Fagon', this ranked #1 on their list of places for tacos in their lives, and for all of us it was way better than anything in the States. We primarily had tacos - flank steak and pastor. Excellent. We also had tostadas, nachos, and quesadilla and all were fantastic. Drinks are reasonably priced (as is the food) and were good. Service was very friendly. The only downside is it's friggin' hot. No place inside with AC. For those that are not used to this climate at least in August - it's not tolerable during the day. At night it was bearable, but not enjoyable to sit there sweating. Still, we went twice because the food was so yummy, and if it were up to me we would have gone more. Worth it, particularly if you are at the Westin Lagunamar across the street. It's a quick walk over.
google avatar

Alex P.

Yelp
Great service. Nice ambiance fast service fresh food the guacamole was delicious with the fresh made chips. Good food and reasonably priced.

Nathan M.

Yelp
10/10 quality. Tried everything with chicken, fajitas tacos was probably the star. Guacamolida with chicken was amazing. Can't miss w this place!
google avatar

Yelp
google avatar

Yelp
in walking distance of the beach, and pretty quickly serviced when we sat down. I was pretty upset they had no corona or Pacifico, but settled for a Sol. I order a bistek taco & a chorizo taco & a chicken "guacamolada" ( tostada smeared in guac topped in chicken. ) pretty good if u ask me. I order my friend the same tacos, but also a "valconada " (tostada covered in melted cheese & topped with chicken). Food came out pretty quickly & it was about $22 for us both. maybe next time I'll try the aguas frescas, bc i love horchata :)
google avatar

Juan D.

Yelp
Excellent Mexican food at an affordable price. We came to the place in plaza la isla. Got chicken nachos, trompo burger, guacamolada and tacos. Drinks both alcoholic and baraturas drinks are great. Excellent service and they stay until late.
google avatar

Jose R.

Yelp
We visited this place located in the Isla Shopping Mall. I must say I was very disappointed. I had the combo fajitas, and it had more vegetables than meat. I only got 1 taco from the beef and 2 from the chicken. The side of rice was flavorful but not well cooked. I also was not pleased by the salsa selections, which came in little bottles like they came from a store (not homemade) with that vinegar taste. The server, after repeating 3-4 times, we wanted mineral water, he came back with regular water. The guacamole was just plain old smashed Avocados. We didn't even get an itemized bill/receipt, and just showed us the total on a calculator? The waiter had to emphasize that the total does not include tip, and then stood over my shoulder while I was getting my money out to pay (very uncomfortable feeling). I was not pleased with this place.
google avatar

Sparkles D.

Yelp
The food is tender the taco shells where freshly made they have a full bar good customer service. How ever the food is bland but considering all the hotels in this food is horrible this food tastes like heaven honestly. I'd the food was seasoned I would have been here everyday! The place was very clean as well.
google avatar

Hector C.

Yelp
Probably the best tacos in Cancun.. super underrated. We made it our spot to get a bite before/after going out to eat lol. Shots and beer are cheap too! Service is fast and very nice! And the music selection 10/10. Its vibe
google avatar

Art S.

Yelp
Food is delicious, this is as close as you get to authentic Mexican food, the service was awesome, the ambience was nice, everything about this place is great. Highly recommend this place, not too far from La Isla!
google avatar

Mike W.

Yelp
Our server Diego was awesome! Wife loved the al pastor Torta! Good prices and great assortment of mexican favorites.
google avatar

Nick G.

Yelp
Since I've been in town I've been eating nothing but resort food... The wife and I had to get out and get time real food and this is where we ended up. We had the alpastor and chorizo tacos and the chicaron de queso and it was all If I'm ever in the area again I'll be back. The staff as cool, service was great and the tacos were amazing. Great vibe and great price.

Selena A.

Yelp
Recomiendo la comida de aquí está muy muy buena! Y el señor César, es muy amable. Fantástico y la torta también.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is top tier! If you want authentic Mexican street food this is the place to go. Very clean, lots of seating space, not busy at all, and amazing food. We ordered a lot of food and were not disappointed with one dish. There is a menu in English and In Spanish so it's not hard to read the menu at all if you don't know Spanish. We started with chips and guacamole and you can't go wrong with that, it was made so fresh. The strawberry margarita was one of the best margaritas I've had. Sweet and strong! We also ordered the el pastor tacos, chorizo, & bistec tacos which were 10/10 the flavors were booming. We order a bistec volcanes which was my favorite thing on the menu since it is simple a crispy tostada with meat and cheese but it was so good. Not to mention the bring out a platter of hot sauce options so you can take your pick! All were super good and some were super spicy. I would definitely come back to this place again!
google avatar

Ron H.

Yelp
Yet another outstanding restaurant in Cancun. Located on the lagoon where you can see crocodiles. Yes, I said crocodiles. We only got a drink a some chips but would like come back and try their food. Received good service and felt welcomed

Yelp
Recommended by the concierge, we got a cab late at night and headed over. I had been dying to try authentic tacos. This did not disappoint. Started off sharing the chicken nachos. Then went on a beef taco binge. The plain rib and plain flank steak, the rib with cheese, a volcano with rib, and a guacomolada with rib. All dressed with lime, onion, cilantro, the red and green salsas. I opted for rib because it was recommended by the waiter. All were absolutely delicious, but my fave bite of the night was definitely the flank steak. I washed it all down with a perfectly refreshingly mint limonada. Don't sleep on the salsas. The red and green were both outstanding, though I slightly preferred the red. The kids finished their taco extravaganza night off with flan and rice pudding. The flan was excellent, but I didn't care for the rice pudding at all. That was the only miss of the night. PS - when the bill came, I paid it and didn't think to check it. When I checked it later it was high. I went back and asked and the waiter added on an extra $600 pesos, he said it was for his service - he gave himself a 35% tip.

Yelp
From a physician review, I can tell it was a Very bad food, oily tacos and Tortillas, don't recommend at all, dirty place with shit smell coming around, pricy for nothing, they tried to add an extra item that we didn't order to steal more money. Had abdominal pain right away. You might have travel diarrhea as well. Stay away

Yelp
Delicious variety of foods & Great service. Shady views of Main Street ! 2x1 Alcohol drinks . Well Recommend!.
google avatar

Abigail C.

Yelp
Awesome awesome tacos!!! This was my first time here since I am on vacation. I had both the steak and chicken taco. Their guacamole was AMAZINGLY good. I will definitely be returning. I'll be here in Cancun til Friday so I have plenty of time to return.
google avatar

Pauline L.

Yelp
The wait staff was super fun and the best tacos in Cancun! Very reasonable prices and strong margaritas. Would highly recommend!
google avatar

Herman L.

Yelp
For the center of the hotel zone, this is a gem! Footsteps away from our hotel, this was a super convenient way to get something to go and eat at the beach. Their service is outstanding and staff are very helpful in making sure you get what you're looking for. Plus their tacos are solid. Pineapple on the pastor is a nice touch, and everything is very tasty. I wanted to branch out and try some other options but since the tacos were so good, it was hard not to fill up on them. Prices are very reasonable for the area and it doesn't take long to get your meal. There's plenty of room so there's no reason not to swing by.
google avatar

Tranika T.

Yelp
Right by my hotel and one of the best (and cheapest) places to eat. You can get 3 tacos (pork) for $56 PESOS which is great and I had their tequila which was $60 PESOS. I ate here several times overlooking the water. All the staff was nice every time I went and even asked if I wanted my tequila to go (say what?!) lol Skip Surfin Burrito (right across the street) and go here!
google avatar

Jeff F.

Yelp
This was easily one of my favorite meals from my time in Cancun. One of my few regrets is not eating here more than once. Incredible tacos in a perfect setting. Pastor and Chorizo are the must have tacos. My son was a big fan of the Arrachera/Flank Steak. Had 8 tacos myself for under $10. Best taco option in the hotel zone.
google avatar

Kanika B.

Yelp
This place was recommended to us by a shuttle driver so we decided to eat here as soon as we got settled in our hotel. The atmosphere is very nice and it's well decorated. Our server was kind and answered any questions we had about the menu. I can easily say I had the BEST chicken tacos here. Very savory! We also ordered a gringa and guacamole. The gringa reminded me of a quesadilla and it was good. The guacamole was great!! The only complaint is that the chips it came with were a bit hard and tasted stale. We also ordered a margarita, strawberry margarita, and mojito as well. Compared to some other places we've gone to, the drinks here actually have alcohol in them! We really enjoyed them. For 6 chicken tacos with cheese, 1 chicken gringa, guacamole, and 3 drinks, our bill came out to be $25 USD (not including tip). Talk about a steal!! Be sure to check this place out before you leave.
google avatar

Rory P.

Yelp
We were in Cancun for 1 week, staying a 5min walk from this place. We ate there 4 times -- kept coming back for more Al pastor tacos, guacamole, and strawberry margs. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Pro tip: Surfin' Burrito across the street is also 100% worth a visit. Their burritos are amazing
google avatar

Sarah T.

Yelp
Came here as it was recommended as good local food around the hotel zone by our taxi driver. When we passed by it a day later, the place was super busy so we decided to try it out the next day. Got there around 5pm before the dinner rush, (2pm seemed the peak). It was pretty empty, which was a bit surprising as we were expecting a small crowd at least before the dinner. Tonnes of options for tacos ( only Mexican food here) except no seafood. Fyi their menu is in Spanish only, so it may be an adventure. They have a slip of paper as their menu and you just write how many of each you want. You pay by the taco so you could mix and match to try as many as you want and the price is pretty good. Its located righ beside Senor Frogs Hostel and across from the 360 Surfschool, so you know where all of those clients are going when they get hungry.

Yelp
Delicious, fresh food, great service, incredibly clean- all with a nice view of the lagoon. The Jamaica and cucumber waters were refreshing, my family loved the al pastor tacos with pineapple, and they made me a quesadilla with corn tortillas since I'm gluten free and pescatarian. The workers are so friendly and kind. There is parking, but it's very limited, so if they don't have space you'll have to park up the street near the shops and walk over. One of the best spots in Cancun!
