Taqueria Lupitas

This has been my family's favorite place since I was a kid. We have been coming here for years. However, in recent years it's been harder to get the family together and we haven't been here in a while. We showed up yesterday ( on Good Friday) with a party of 16 since they do not take reservations. The waitresses got right on it and started putting tables together and getting chips and salsa with no hesitation. They do still only accept cash and for large parties they do only one bill so be aware of that if coming with a lot of people. However the staff was accommodating and very friendly. The food was delicious. We were able to take pictures even though we had a large party and it is such a small place. No one bothered us or made us feel rushed to leave. Absolutely amazing as always. Thank you so much for all the memories Lupitas.

We enjoyed our lunch here on a Sunday afternoon. We were greeted immediately with chips and salsa (only the first round is complimentary) which came with 3 different salsas that were delicious. We ordered an asada quesadilla with rice and whole beans and then 4 tacos with lomo saltado & asada meat with rice and refried beans. I definitely prefer the taste of the whole beans over the refried beans but we enjoyed both of our meals. This is a cash only restaurant so be mindful of that!

Cute simple family style restaurant. Brightly decorated, excellent location, easy street parking. I really wanted to love this place, but most of the food seemed uninspired, a bit bland and was served lukewarm. The exception would be the tacos which were good. The horchata was overly sweet. The salsas were okay. The chips were stale. Perhaps we were there on a bad night? I’m not sure. I wish them well but I was definitely disappointed, unfortunately.

I enjoyed huevos con chorizo (eggs with chorizo) yesterday. The refried beans were good with a little salt, and the rice was perfect. And the huevos con chorizo is one of the best things I have ever eaten. The tortilla chips and salsa served as an appetizer are also very good. They also have a good selection of Jarritos; I had guava. The dining area is nicely decorated, with a distinct Mexican flair. Our waitress was very friendly, and the food was ready quickly. Best of all, the prices are more than reasonable. This was an enjoyable meal that reminded me a lot of the Mexican restaurants in Fresno. I will be back, and I highly recommend that you visit, too!

The arroz y pollo immediately caught my eye, and it did not disappoint. Even though the dining room is practical and simple, they focus their efforts on the food and service. We received three salsas of different spice levels with a basket of tortilla chips, which was refilled as we finished them. Everyone enjoyed their dishes, such as steak quesadilla and the taco dinner, plus the drinks including, of course, Jarritos.

Amazing food selection and incredibly friendly staff. Wish I lived closer so I could come here all the time. I’ve been coming from Ohio since I was a kid, this place is a classic. Easily the best restaurant in the area

I had a nice experience eating dinner at this place. My friend got a quesadilla and the taco dinner and said he loved it. I ordered arroz con pollo and chicken tacos which was really tasty. The guacamole was delicious - just prepare to add your own salt to all the food. (I’d prefer it understated to over salted though!). Staff were friendly and we got our food quickly. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this place because it wasn’t extraordinary, but it was solid.

Best Mexican food in Detroit. And I've tried everything since moving here. I usually get the carne asada tacos with beans and rice. With the jalapeño salsa. So flavorful and delicious. I eat here like every week if budget allows lol

Poor service. The female server was very unapproachable in the beginning. When she was taking our order, she was very unfriendly to my 9 year old son. Then our food took forever to get served, so I asked for another basket of nachos and dip. The server replied I have to charge you for the second basket. Seriously? Never coming back! Kitchen and floor looks nasty. I'd rather go to a food truck. Nothing can be improved in this restaurant. Even the bathroom is too small and smells like sewer. We only visited the place because it was closer to the freeway.

Very good authentic tacos Going to keep this one short. Came here on a whim, wanted to get some authentic tacos from mexicotown. Stopped in and ordered some tacos. Took them down the road and dug in. The meats were cooked and seasoned well. The tortillas were properly soaked and cooked. The price was pretty cheap and the quality was solid Overall, a good taco from a taco shop. Tasty, cheap, and quick

Great taco place! I got the chorizo and pulled chicken with cilantro and onions. The tacos were so flavorful and juicy without falling apart. I also got the charro beans and rice which were really good as well. This restaurant is situated on a very aesthetically pleasing street lined with other shops and restaurants. I've only gotten takeout from here which I ordered online, but if you go in person make sure you bring cash. They have an atm inside but I imagine there's a fee.

Authentic, delicious food and salsas. Definitely one of my favorites in Southwest Detroit.

I had a delicious me here. Arroz con pollo is was AMAZING. I had charro beans, rice even my lemonade was good. The service was emasculate. I only have one complaint. They only take cash.

My husband and i came here on our date night we got carryout and sat at riverside park and ate it maybe a 7min drive. service was quick and the ladies were very friendly. The food was not good the beans were really liquidy and had an underlining burnt taste as if maybe the bottom of the pot was burned and it kept being mixed together??? The enchiladas were gummy??? The rice was weird and pretty tasteless... gave steamed bag vibes?? The menudo was all broth and had a piles of some type of stick seasoning in it. Every bite was crunchy.

Authentic Mexican food right smack in the middle of Mexican town. If you go during the colder months try one of their delicious soups. All of their food is pretty good. Cash only, but they do have an atm. The interior is covered in what looks like 70's stone looking lava rack. The service is usually quick and friendly. One of my favorite places in Mexican Town.

We had lunch here today. It's a small authentic restaurant. I like they come out immediately with chips and 3 salsas. The green one had some kick, the original was fresh and delicious. We had the cheese dip and it was too greasy for my taste. My 6 year old daughter loved her shrimp quesadilla. I had the beef tostada and chicken enchilada, both were very good. My husbands steak burrito was humongous and also delicious. Just fyi I don't think they sell margaritas or alcohol.

This is such a phenomenal spot if you're looking for some high quality Mexican food. The first indication that you're in a good restaurant is the chips and salsa -the salsas were on point and fresh and the heat level was perfect. The seafood in the ceviche tostadas was fresh and not overly citrusy and the arrow con pollo was extremely delicious. The serving size was huge, my partner and I split the entree and we still needed to take home leftovers. The staff was extremely attentive and very friendly and we will be returning soon! I Love this place!!! i've been coming here for many many years and have never had a problem, their food is always fresh and authentic!!! waitresses are always nice and friendly, Can't go wrong with Lupitas!!!!

The food was authentic and great. It was very well priced and I really recommend if you are looking for great Mexican food. The service was excellent. They even served dessert a little past their closing time and we did not feel rushed. I really like the playlist and ambiance.

There is only 2 things I don't like they don't take debit and the chips and salsa are not good. But the Atmosphere is cozy and clean. There are good vibes here and it's one of the places one can stop in for a quick lunch or order out. Try the small burrito with caldo de res. That is all. Chief If follow then you will lead

Authentically delicious food done right. This place is legit. Been several times and I'm still working my way through the menu. Amazingly delicious and economical. Especially enjoyed the flauta and the taco specials. Both are served with rice and either charro or refried beans. I'm not usually a side fan because I'm usually disappointed but these are all 3 flavorful and delicious. The Chilaquiles hit the spot as did the Steak Milinese. Even the crispy chips and salsas are amazing. Looking around the restaurant I look forward to trying the caldo, chili relleno. Love this place and friendly service will keep me coming back

This is the place of golden gem been eating tacos here since forever whenever I'm down there and I wanna taco I go to this place. Don't forget to get the Menudo so good so so good and the people are great. The service is wonderful. Love to go to this place

This is easily the best Authentic Mexican Restaurant in Michigan. Gotta start off with great chips & salsa. Their salsa verde is to die for and the guac is fresh and fantastic. There are a lot of menu options, but the "taco dinner" is the classic gem. The Pastor is juicy, flavorful, and has just the perfect amount of sweetness. The charro beans are way better than refried beans. High quality mexican food for a bargain price. I typically go with the taco dinner, 2 asada 2 pastor tacos with onion & cilantro, charro beans, and rice.

My favorite taco place in Mexicantown in Detroit. The tacos are authentic, the staff is sweet. Note that they do not serve alcohol, and they only accept cash! Other than that... All is good!

This place has been a staple in Southwest Detroit for as long as I can remember. Adan and Valeria truly care about their customers and make sure that the food is always top-tier. Out of all the restaurants in that vicinity, I always recommend this one. The restaurant is so cute and vibrant.

These were some of my favorite tacos. I've had in a very long time. My partner and I both ordered the taco dinners which came with four street style tacos, a choice of refried beans, or whole beans and rice. All of the flavors that we got were so delicious. the sauces that came with the meal perfectly complemented the flavors of the meats. The only thing to make note of prior to coming is that this is a cash only business and no alcohol is served.

Stopped here on the way to a Tigers game and I am happy that I did! This is a small restaurant that was pretty busy on a Sunday afternoon. We were able to get a table immediately. Waitresses were very pleasant. This is certainly the most authentic and tastiest Mexican food I've ever had! Chips and salsa arrived immediately after seating. The chips were perfect, perfectly salted and not greasy. I ordered the taco lunch, which came with two tacos and rice and beans. My food arrived hot. The meat was tender and delicious, rice perfectly seasoned, and beans were smooth and tasty. I'll be back, for sure!

Lupita's is a small restaurant that serves amazing tacos with big flavor. The Al Pastor and Carnitas are my favorite, but everything is delicious. The staff is very attentive, and the food is quick. If you're looking for cheap eats, this place is the best. 4 tacos with a side of rice and beans for $11. They're cash only, so make sure you come prepared. I always leave very full and happy when I come here.

This place really is the best taco joint in Detroit. The food is incredible. Ive never had tacos Al pastor or Campechano that wasn't greasy. This place has both and somehow they're super flavorful and juicy with our being outrageously fatty.

We love coming to Lupita's, the food is so fresh and delicious, our servers are always so sweet and helpful when we have questions. The green salsa there is so special and tasty, we asked for it every time! Lupitas always has customers, but we never have to wait, food comes really quick, delicious and authentic tacos!

Incredible food, friendly and safe service, and a great ambience. Saying these things is just putting it mildly. Their food is so tasty with just the perfect amount of savory spice. It's not over the top so that you can't taste the food, but it's plentiful set your pallet is happy. We ordered the shrimp fajitas and two small burritos to share. One burrito had Carne Asada (steak) and the other Al Pastor (pork). They also bring out chips and three different salsa variations. Honestly everything was so good that I couldn't tell you which was my favorite. Plus the prices are amazing too. Our whole meal was $20 plus tip. The one thing that you need to know before coming here, is that they don't take credit card. So be prepared with a little bit of cash but you won't need much.

I like Lupitas. I always have. This use to be my Dads favorite taco place. Its small, no frills, and cash only. But they do the basics good. The rice is probably my favorite rice besides what i make lol. The breakfasts are really good. They have a very good variety of breakfast options. I got the Chorizo with Huevos and my hubs got the Chilaquiles. Both were delicious and a big portion. . Service was fast, friendly, and efficient. . They are cash only. .

Lupitas is the only spot in this section that is not only actually legit, but also objectively really good. Atmosphere isn't going to win any awards, but that's not why you go. The service ranges from passable to great and the food all exceeds expectations-- and blows away the competition, as I mentioned before (this CANNOT be understated). Dank salsa and chips, ceviche and tacos are on point. Cash only.

If you are looking for authentic Mexican food in Southwest Detroit, you should definitely stop into this place! It's ducked off, small, and intimate and the food is full of flavor. I ordered the flautas dinner, and a few street tacos. All of the meat was seasoned to perfection, everyone was so nice and friendly, and our food came in less than ten minutes, fresh. I will say that they only accept cash, so come prepared to pay cash or use the ATM provided inside.

Fantastic, authentic, DELICIOUS Mexican food. Stop at the ATM beforehand if you plan to dine here - it's cash only and doing so will make your life much easier. I'm a taco lover and I think that's what Lupita's does best. Over the years I have brought many friends here and we've managed to work our way through the entire menu now so I feel confident saying that everything here is good.

I have been searching for a new favorite spot in Mexican town and I have finally found it! The food is amazing and prices are even better. Very authentic, small restaurant in the heart of Mexican town. It's cash only and the food is always out quickly, I love this place!

They have been opened for indoor eating for a while. One of the locals told me this is one of the best place in the area for MX food. Better to have cash with you when you come, I remember it's cash only (though not 100% sure now). The food is not bad, and reasonable priced.

This spot is amazing! How have i missed this place through the years! Thank god my daughter saw it today. Its not the fanciest place but it is solid for the food and the service was impeccable. Two different salsas are served with chips and water when u sit down. They have a cooler of Mexican sodas to choose from as well. You can sit down. Has breakfast lunch and dinner to choose from. Cant wait to go back and try a couple more dishes.

The staff is great. The food not spectacular I had the enchiladas and they were not great my friend has the cactus and eggs and they were flavorless as well. Definitely not my favorite place.

I understand that being cinco de Mayo, the restaurants in Mexicantown are busier than usual. However, I walked in around 11:30 and was on a wait due to no tables being clean and lack of staff on tables. Finally, 15 minutes later, I was sat and the server dropped off two menus for the party of four. We also received chips and two different salsas, one mild and one hot. Our server did not take our drink orders until about 25 minutes after. All we ordered was water...we requested to order at the time we ordered our water. The server seemed unprepared and hesitant to take our order. Ordered was one torta and the rest of the table ordered tacos. The tacos are reasonably priced $1.75 for one or two for $3. The torta was $5. All items were smaller than I've seen before. Honestly I don't think I'd ever come back to this restaurant due to the horribly slow server and not the best food. Oh, and there's no music. But if you pay for it on the jukebox, you can have some ambience!

I've only been here one time - I've seen a lot of good reviews so I thought I would give it a try. I ordered the quesadillas with chicken which basically just tasted boiled; it didn't have much flavor but I got it takeout so perhaps if you ate inside it would be better. It was cheap enough which is always a plus it just didn't have a lot of flavor for me; I like a bold taste. However, it's easily assessable from a main road and affordable eating so those are worth a visit to develop your own opinion. Depends what you're after.

Delicious, cheap, and convenient. Can't really ask for much more than that. Taqueria Lupita's is also open on Mondays, which is apparently a rarity in the area. The tacos are fabulous. I recommend the al pastor. Service is efficient. Just note that it is cash only, so come prepared.

From the first bite I fell in love with this place. It was our 30th wedding anniversary and we decided to have a quick lunch before the days activities began. This place is a dive for sure but the food is amazing. Service was quick and attentive throughout the meal. We came for their famous tacos but ordered others from the menu. I ordered the cheese stuffed chili relleno and an asada taco. My husband ordered the giant burrito. We also had the guacamole. The chili relleno was the best I've ever had aside from homemade. Full of cheese and covered with tomatoes, onions and peppers it was melt in your mouth. The beans had a similar topping and were delicious. The rice was moist and flavorful. I'm an admitted guacamole snob and I tend to judge a Mexican restaurant by the quality of their guacamole. A huge serving of chunky guacamole arrived at our table and we eagerly dug in. Seasoned to perfection and super fresh, we would go back just for the guacamole even if everything else was bad, but everything was perfect. My husband LOVED his burrito but wished it had more veggies. The taste was great and enough for 2 people. I can't wait to go back again. As of this writing the streets and sidewalks are torn up, but don't let that keep you away. The sidewalks are currently gravel so I wouldn't recommend heels. I'm told construction is due to be completed by November of this year.

Best tacos I had in any state I have been to! Hard to believe this place is right on the border of the USA and Canada. I get cantina style chorizo and steak corn tacos. Salsas and chips they give are great. I have tried the other items on the menu - like the quesadilla and chorizo dip - I was not a fan but the tacos are so great you have to come here just for that.

Tacos are the way to my hearrrrrt!!! Carne asada tacos! Three tacos for $1.25 each! Whatttt? Perfect. Same $ as the taco trucks I love so dearly (in the Bay Area). Tried the carnitas, carne asada, and al pastor, but the carne asada ones were the best. The meal was relatively cheap. The horchata wasn't my fav and the end was a bit chalky.
