Where to Find the Best Gas Station Biscuits, Barbecue, Tacos, and Fried Chicken in Atlanta | Eater Atlanta

"Just off of 1-20 in Austell, Taqueria Margarita resides next door to a Chevron station in the city west of Atlanta. Head in before or after filling up for fresh tortillas stuffed with chorizo, al pastor, or barbacoa, burritos, chimichangas, and gorditas. The tiny taqueria even sells tamales and menudo on the weekends." - Beth McKibben

My first time patronizing this establishment. The staff are so friendly & the restaurant is really clean. I just didn’t enjoy the food much. The presentation was great, it just tasted extremely bland. (Carne asada tacos w/ rice and beans). Felt like money wasted.

Money well spent, that's all I have to say. The food was excellent, service excellent. I am definitely going back again and again.

I found this little gem of a Mexican taco stand around the Corner from the QT truck stop on Fulton Industrial. At lunch it was filled with orange and yellow safety vests worn by hard working presumably Mexican guys …. it is the real deal, delicious, and reasonably priced. Very pleasant people. I need to come back in the morning for the Huevos Rancheros or Chile Rellenos. Peasant food made Aristocratic. 5 star!

Highly recommend paying a little extra for the beef tongue taco, it is exceptional. Next time I will ask for extra salsa, but otherwise great prices and fresh food.

It’s not Taco Tuesday so I went with something other than tacos. I’m telling you, this lady makes dreams come true. Gordita, quesadilla and sope to rival any you’ve had before, if not beat the pants off whatever you had before. The sauces are bomb too! I would ask her to marry me, but I think she’s taken. Either way, I’m coming back for tacos.

This is NOT authentic Mexican food. My boyfriend and I purchased a quesadilla and my boyfriend ordered the steak chimichanga. Both were literally wet and soggy. The chimichanga has more beans and to much cilantro than anything else in it and very little meat. My quesadilla was full of cheese and what looked to be some type of cottage cheese as well with lettuce and very little unseasoned chicken. We asked to leave it on the grilled to crisp the tortilla and it was stll not good at all.We also order chips. We were expecting fresh cooked chips and we received the .99 cent store bought chips. We were soooo disappointed because we love mexican food .. We had to pay for rice and beans because it did not come with it the chimichanga. And we received yellow mushy flavorless minute rice and refried canned beans . It was gross! We couldn't even finish eating our food and my boyfriend ending up having the runs the rest of the night because of it. We just moved in the area and we have not found a good Mexican place yet. We will not be going back. Good luck!

Google
Suadero tacos were nothing close to actual Mexican suadero, it was cut in big chunks of meat. Below average Mexican restaurant in the USA

Yelp
Is it possible to give a place more than 5 stars?! No, that's a shame. Hidden gem near Fulton Industrial that is delivering really good Mexican food. Located beside a gas station, you are warmly greeted by the owner/family. Spanish soap operas have always seemed to be playing on the television, which I love. There is a small make shift market with a few select fresh vegetables and other goodies. I'll start by saying I traditionally stay away from Mexican Restaurants. The gimmicky food of tacos on flour tortillas with sour cream and all other kind of crap loaded on it, I hate it. But this is not that, this my friend is better! Corn tortillas, meat, onions, and cilantro w/ a lime on the side. That's it. Nothing more is needed. They have a few different salsas of varying heat levels that were all delicious. Since eating here for the first time I have become a regular. Everything I have had is good. Burritos, the tacos, the Gorditas, the papusa's, hell the wings lol. This isn't a mexican restaurant, it's a Taqueria. Know the difference but this place is amazing enough to try. Do yourself a favor and do just that.

Yelp
Looking for authentic Mexican food? Well here is where to find it. Simple menu with delicious flavors. Taquiera Margarita is hidden next to a chevron gas station behind Thornton road. It's a great lunch spot with low priced tacos, sopes, gorditas, tortas, and so much more. My coworker always gets the chicken taco's and tops it off with their EXTREMELY spicy orange hot sauce. I always get the chorizo sope's and they haven't disappointed me yet. The staff is friendly, and they have indoor seating, but don't come during the 11-1pm lunch rush and expect to find a seat. it is usually packed with local workers trying to take a break from working outside. There's parking in front of the restaurant, but since it's attached to a gas station, you can find parking anyway.

Yelp
Legit Mexican food. So much better than everything else around this area. The ladies are super nice, the prices are beyond reasonable, and the food is dynamite. A must go place when I am in town

Yelp
Awesome store and great food! I ordered for takeout. I especially like their carne asada gorditas: the wrap is fried and they have a good ratio between onions and meat. The tacos are also great, but the chicken meat is a bit chewy. Overall, I am pleased with my experience. Would definitely come back again.

Yelp
Ordered my food (one burrito, one chimichanga, and cheese dip and chips) in an empty restaurant, line started building immediately after and soon the restaurant was full, everyone was sitting and eating and I was still waiting for my food. Their 'cheese dip' is just that cheap yellow nacho cheese, but the food was not bad honestly, but would not give any more than just that. I usually love taquerias, but for some reason had a terrible experience here. Will not be returning

Yelp
After our favorite cheap Mexican spot decided not to prepare barbacoa today, we quickly went on Yelp to find a replacement. Hubby found Taqueria Margarita close to our home and we were quite pleased! The restaurant is adjacent to a gas station but don't let that deter you. A friendly little old lady prepared our meal as if she was in her home kitchen and it tasted as such. We ordered two barbacoa burritos and a selection of tacos (see photo), along with rice and beans. When hubby found out that tamales were the weekend special, he grabbed two chicken since she was out of pork - those were tasty as well. The prices were also legit with a hefty burrito under $5. The restaurant also offers gorditas and other Mexican specialties that are sometime hard to find in Atlanta. We are always happy to find good local Mexican spots so we will definitely be back!

Yelp
Tacos are great! Fresh cut greens and vegetables. Salsa needs some help. What I got wasn't salsa I'm used to and would have loved to have had cheese dip with my order. If they worked on those two things alone and fixed up their decor, IMO this place would have people lined out the street. I will definitely be back for more tacos.

Yelp
I was very disappointed with the quality of the food. The flavor wasn't much better. I base my opinion on eating authentic Mexican food in SoCal for 12+ yrs and numerous trips to Mexico. I had 3 Carne Asada tacos that were just chewy and mushy. The beans and rice weren't anything to write home about either. As long as I don't get sick I'll recommend getting a meal there just don't expect to be blown away.

Yelp
Having worked in the same area of town for over a decade, I'm always looking for a new spot to mix up my lunch routine. Taqueria Margarita looked more akin to Buford Highway style Mexican cuisine than others in the neighborhood and warranted the 15 minute drive. Upon pulling into the parking lot, you will noticed its on the end of a strip with a gas station. They have some bread, pineapples and other ingredients in cabinets out in front of the kitchen I presume are for sale. I found this quite reassuring and really hammered in the "home cooked" vibe. No microwaved enchilada plates here. The staff speak primarily Spanish, but I've never had a problem communicating with them (even though my Spanish is absolutely horrible.) The prices posted on the menu are crazy cheap, even though I was notified that one of the items I ordered was going to be like $2 more than what was posted. It was still a great deal. Im particularly fond of the Gorditas here. I usually like to try new things when I frequent restaurants, but cant seem to get past at least ordering one Gordita every time I come here. Co-workers always seemed shocked at how good of Mexican food I am able to procure for them, far surpassing the quality of Mexican food closer to our office. I love the Taqueria Margarita is getting some love and always has enough people in their little dinning area to make me believe they will continue to thrive. It is by far the best Mexican food I have had OTP.

Yelp
I was so excited to try here after the reviews. Since moving to Camp Creek i have been looking to try a mexican spot that rivals Tacos al Guero and Tacos la Villa. This aint it . I got two steak tacos and a gordita( carne) . The steak tacos were perfectly portioned but lacking flavor. The gordita bread was disgusting, it tasted like a bread cake... maybe idk what a gordita is supposed to be but dont get this yall... the meat wasnt seasoned at all it was just nasty. It was just ok. They are missing a really good salsa to bring everything together. The green salsa was just ok but the hot one.. ( and i LOVE hot food ) was inedible it just tastes... HOT if that makes sense. I will drive to Cobb cause this aint it

Yelp
We have never been here to eat before and I have been wanting to ever since I seen it and that was years ago. I'm glad we finally had a chance to finally visit. The restaurant is tucked away next to a gas station. The parking is ample because the other would be businesses on each side are vacant. The outside of the store is clean and inviting. When we went inside there was another couple eating. The employees were very friendly and welcomed us when we came inside. We decided to order a lot of different things after reading the reviews we were confident enough that we would not be disappointed. He ordered the carne asada nachos and 5 carne asada tacos. I ordered a pupusas with Chicarone and cheese, a carne asada gordita and a carne asada chimichanga. My only complain about the items we ordered was the chimichanga looked like a burrito because it was 7not deep fried like I expected. They happily dropped it into the fryer before we left. I wish it was fried a little harder, next time I will have to ask them to fry it hard. We got our food to go because of covid 19 we decided against eating there. They did have an open buffet style section with sauces and jalapeno. We chose not to use it because of covid. I asked if they had sauce in the back and she only had 1 kind and the jalapeno I wanted she didn't have any in the back so I skipped the rest. When we came home we had a great time tasting and trying each other's foods. The pupusas was incredibly good and I wish I ordered 2 of them. I think I will return again on Sunday and get some tamales. I really wish I could have gotten a few. We were very impressed and can't wait to go eat there again. It was the best Mexican food hands down we've had in a long time. We highly recommend.

Yelp
Had the chicken burritos with queso and lettuce tomato and sour cream. A lot of food for the price. I cleaned my plate with no shame! I was full and satisfied when I left. Great frozen margaritas too.

Yelp
Pleasant surprise, in the middle of nowhere. What impressed me most was the freshness of the food. The chicken quesadilla was amazing. The homemade juices are splendid. I had 3 tacos too, chicken, fish and chorizo. I didnt like the chorizo sausage they serve.

Yelp
My husband tried this on a whim and told me how good it was. So we went back the next day and I was not disappointed. Authentic Mexican food that's inexpensive and delicious. We got the quesadillas and gorditas. Next time I will try the juice.

Yelp
Like you stepped across the border. Mostly Hispanic people eating in here but that means it's authentic! You aren't going for the atmosphere but the food is really good. The price is very reasonable also. It's a little, ok a lot, "divey" but if you are ok with that then you will get good authentic Mexican food.

Yelp
This is the best find for authentic Mexican food in the south. This took me back to the days spent in TJ, Guadalajara, and all the little towns and countryside. Everything is hand made in this modest kitchen like your Abuela made for you, it will take you back to those times when your feet dangled and swayed with anticipation. Flavors dancing on your childhood tastebuds. Small menu, but all good things come in a small package. Handmade tortillas, steak, chicken, Menudo to take away that headache. You name it they got it, or can make it. Awesome is all I can say! Enjoy your trip South in this little restaurant.

Yelp
Great food and very friendly staff! I ordered seven of the steak tacos and it very flavorful. The price wasn't bad either.

Yelp
I've been looking for a good Mexican place near by where I an visiting from work. The menu isn't large, but the taste is. This is the first place since I left Texas that even comes close to authentic TexMex. It's not the most appealing place, but I highly recommend it.

Terrie L.

Yelp
It's pretty good. Tried the burritos, tacos and quesadillas. I'm a big fan of the small quesadillas...

Yelp
My boyfriend and I stopped in one day just to see what this place was. Much to our surprise the food was awesome. But their juice stole it for us. Fresh and nothing but juice from fruit they juice themselves. We get their tacos and quesadillas. Their nachos are really too. We have turned most of my office onto this place. The staff is very friendly and professional. Since our first visit, we've been back multiple times.

Charlie M.

Yelp
Very surprised by the authentic Mexican food at this small off the beaten path restaurant. Staff was awesome food was great and it felt like I was a guest at their house... Definitely worth a try

Zach H.

Yelp
If you want real Mexican come here. Tucked away next to a chevron it's not the most inviting but good lord the street tacos are fantastic!!! Only disappointment was they were out of lengua. Definitely moves into my top 5 for Atlanta tacos with the likes of taco truck L10000000 and tacos lavilla. They are doing it right in this little joint. Do yourself a favor and just go.

Melanie J.

Yelp
I'll gave it more stars then 5 recommended to go eat there the food is good fresh and delicious these is a real Mexican food tacos real good and they are really nice love this place recommend it

Christopher R.

Yelp
Went to have lunch here with coworkers and the food was authentic, fresh, and delicious. They had made-from-scratch horchata and pineapple juice. I had the burrito which was surprisingly substantial given the very fair $4.99 price. I didn't get to try the tacos but they looked delicious and everything was made to order with friendly service. The interior is pretty bare and the location is somewhat odd but they make up for it with the food and the friendliness!

Jessica S.

Yelp
Super cute place definitely a hole in the wall type place but the food is really good. I come to this place often as it is close by and usually take out but the food is always super hot and good. I recommend this place to anyone looking especially for steak tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and gorditas as there are not many places you can get authentic carne asada tacos around here.
