I'm always a little surprised that there aren't a lot of locally-owned restaurant options near my workplace (I-25 and Candelaria, more or less), especially ones that aren't New Mexican food. I'd driven past Taqueria Mexico numerous times on my way to work and, after reading a bunch of positive Yelp reviews, decided it was time to check them out.
When looking at the menu, I noticed they had lengua; I haven't had it in a while so chose a lengua torta. Unfortunately, they don't offer lengua anymore! My second choice was a barbacoa torta with a side of fries, which I took back to my office.
It was tough to resist opening the container on my drive back, but I managed, and it was worth the wait. This was one of the best tortas I've ever put in my mouth - deliciously tender beef with a little guacamole, lettuce, and a tomato slice that tasted pretty darn given the time of year. I'd asked them to hold the jalapenos, but I still found a couple of small pieces to remove. A side of salsa came with the torta.
The fries were also fantastic, fresh and hot.
Their food is very reasonably priced, and it looks like they're really popular - almost every table was full and there was a line to order by the time I left. I'll definitely return again.
