The 24 Best Restaurants in Monterrey, Mexico - Eater

"This casual taqueria has two locations in Monterrey and a bustling outpost in Mexico City. Choose from three types of meat: trompo (pork marinated al pastor style with dried chiles and spices), beef (top sirloin sliced thin), and Northern Mexican chicharrón (crispy, juicy pork cheek). Order one of each, but don’t forget the specials, like the campechana, an extra-large flour tortilla filled with beef, pork from the trompo, cheese, avocado, cilantro, onions, and corn chips. Although beer will pair perfectly with anything, it’s worth trying the restaurant’s own Jamaica agua fresca with cinnamon and guava. [$-$$]" - Liliana López Sorzano

Yelp
Food is fantastic. Recommend the campechana (140 peso) and a Coke Zero. All orders come with the condiments tray so you can dress up your taco your way. Fresh limes to squeeze, four different sauces, and sour cream. Friendly and fast service. They take your order, drink comes out first with the tray and napkins; five minutes later taco arrives. Casual street food style ambiance, with people quietly chatting. Old and young alike. Enjoy! Street parking. American Express *is* accepted. Trendy walking street area.

Yelp
Eating tacos almost anywhere in Mexico is like eating pizza in NYC, every taco is just super yummy. We tried the chicharon (crispy pork belly-tender, but crunchy), pastore (rotisserie pork-like a giant gyro, well-seasoned, juicy), gringa (cheese and beefsteak, scrumptious). Apparently this place is so famous that Adidas makes an "Orinoco" sneaker collaboration. All served with chili sauces of varying degrees of heat. Not sure what makes every taco we tried in Mexico (taco Chula CDMX !) extra delicious, but just like NYC pizza, never experienced a bad one here.

Yelp
We came here on a recommendation from a local. The tacos were amazing!! We had the trompo, beef and chícharos tacos - all were amazing!! You can have them with raw and or fresh onions, cheese, cilantro and others condiments. Indoor seating is limited. All locals that we mentioned that we came here to eat think it's also very good. They are open til 3:00 am - they get the bar crowd around 1:00 am. There are 2 other locations. A must if in Monterrey for tacos lovers!! Ef Out!!

Yelp
Orinoco is maybe one the most famous Taco places in Mexico. I initially tried em in Mexico City and this last time couldn't skip the opportunity to have them in Monterrey. The menu is very simple and to the point, so I don't think too much and just order a handful of al pastor tacos, which are my all time favourite. The place is super casual and opens until late, making them a fantastic option to go at any time

Yelp
Deliciosos! Todo perfecto, la agua de jamaica con guayaba súper rica! Las salsas siempre frescas y bien surtido todo. El servicio estaba perfecto. Y el ambiente del patio al aire libre está súper padre.

Yelp
I will chop off my arm for these tacos. Nothing more I can say but wow. The chicharron tacos are the best I've ever had. The crunch, softness, fatty and flavorful chicharron itself was amazing. Along side it the beautiful pairings of onions, peppers and a slice of avocado to compliment each layer of flavors. These also comes with potatoes and pineapples. This place also includes 4 sides of different sauces with its each out type of flavor profile. Gringa was subpar... pretty weak. But if you go, go for the chicharron. Sincerely, A guy with one arm... probably (jk)

Yelp
Excellent trompo/pork tacos and good selection of salsa. Def. Recommend the trompa tacos. Tocas de rez we're pretty good too but if you are trying to decide, go with the pork/trompo.

Yelp
Best Al pastor tacos, period! Don't be fooled by the outside. The smells coming from the kitchen are mouthwatering. The salsas are excellent, and the service is friendly.

Yelp
I was in Monterrey for a wedding back in March and stopped by this place. The trompo tacos were incredible. After I ate the 4 that I ordered, I immediately went back and got 4 more. Easily could have eaten 20 they were that good. If I'm ever back in Monterrey, I know where my first stop will be.

Yelp
Tacos were great! Got 5 trompo and four cuz I was stuffed. Parents also got 5 each and super tasty. Ordered the papas and they could have used some salt and butter but worked cooked well. Small space but smelled good soo stick around. Sorry didn't get any pics.

Yelp
Recommended by my local colleagues, situated in San Pedro on the other side of the dried up river, a quick 10 min Drive from Hilton Garden Inn, this was a great place for authentic taco. This is the best taco I have ever had, considering my taco experience is only from US where it gets as authentic as Velvet Taco from Dallas. I ordered 3 Res Maiz (beef taco) and 1/2 order of Papas Aplastada (deep fried potatoes). The order was served with 5 types of sauces. Taco flavor was amazing, sauces just enhanced the flavor. Beware of the red sauce, it burns, but I did enjoy it nevertheless. Aplastada wasn't anything to die for. If you are health conscious, I would say skip it for more taco. They also have Shawarma style taco made of pork, something I have never seen before. Nice outdoor seating, fast and great service, glad I tried before I left the city. Will be back if I am back to Monterrey. #repeatrestaurant #Airwolf

Yelp
If I could give this 10 stars I would. Owned and operated by a young and talented culinarian. When I return to Mexico, this will be a first stop to eat! Bravo! Those papas!!

Yelp
Came highly recommended and did not disappoint. Fantastic meat, excellent tacos, and great sauces. I had the campechana (a mix of both meats) and loved it! Will definitely come back next time I'm in town.

Yelp
Great Tacos and even better Salsas and those potatoes?!?! I ate here 2 years ago. I was helping a friend find some spots just now and remembered this place. Once I found it, it instantly got my mouth watering. Definitely a stop on our next trip to Monterrey,MX

Yelp
Pricey tacos but get what you pay for. You can tell right away that they take pride in every plate they serve. I came in for lunch around 12pm and ended up coming same day late at night after leaving the club next door haha It was crazy packed and same quality tacos was served even at that time. Totally recommend it. Gringa especial is what I got I believe , my favorite. Will come here again when I visit Monterrey!!!
