Austin Restaurant Dish Recommendations by Eater Austin Editors in 2023 | Eater Austin

"A humble taco truck serving excellent barbacoa tacos that are tender, moist, and balanced with fatty richness and bright, well-executed salsas — the kind of neighborhood truck tacos that make you feel welcome back into town." - Nadia Chaudhury

Best Austin Restaurant Dishes of 2023, According to Eater Austin Editors | Eater Austin

"Everybody knows that the actual best tacos can be found at your nearest taco truck. After a lengthy trip home for most of July, I came back to Austin wanting tacos. So for dinner that day we ordered tacos from Taqueria Peloncitos, a little truck parked at the Chevron gas station. I have generally shared my deep love for barbacoa tacos, and the truck’s version is so tender and moist with a nice balance of fattiness and meats, brightened up with the excellent salsas. It was a nice welcome back. —Nadia Chaudhury" - Nadia Chaudhury

I use to go here all the time when I lived in Dove. I live north now but today I was in the area and go me 3 gringas on flour tortillas. I asked for no onion or cilantro. Got my tacos and they had onion and bell peppers so I asked them and they said it didn’t have onions and the bell peppers were already mixed in the chicken. Cool so I go to my car to dig out the onions and peppers and there’s a dead fly mixed in. I almost had a heart attack luckily I hadn’t taken a bite yet. So at this point I’m very upset I said I want a refund there’s a fly in my taco she had the audacity to say I was lying that I just didn’t want the tacos. The customer service was horrible and they were rude. Be AWARE when eating here‼️‼️‼️

Best tacos I’ve had in Austin. Their tortillas are perfect, hand made and delicious. Don’t let the location scare you, come here and try the tacos. You’ll get addicted on first bite!

I've been here so many times this is my first time trying the nachos I got the nachos all burn I told the lady on the window but she didn't listen to me she didn't even open the window. For the sauce it needs to be a little more spicy I try the jalapenos they're even more tasty than the sauce, The beans and the natural she tastes a little bit salty

Google
Chicken fajita taco. Ask for avocado with it. Didn’t get it. He can’t call the number? My looks not good today

Google
Food was prepared quickly I think the tacos are the way to go here. I had a steak burrito which was $7 and good but for the same price I would have rather went to chipotle and had a much larger burrito.

I am on a business travel and decided to stop here because I was craving Mexican food really bad I am from Houston and I can say this stand was very good! And I can see very well Houston Texas needs a lesson from Austin! The white sauce tho!

Everything was great being in a hurry and super early to start my day this was one of my family favorite food trucks

Google
At $6.24 each the tostadas were a little overpriced but tasty. The people working the truck were perfectly friendly and quick with their service. There are dumpsters next door but if you can’t handle that just take and eat your food somewhere else!

Yelp
Hands down the best torta and horchata I've had. The Torta Peloncito was packed with a cacophony of ingredients that all worked perfectly with each other, and the horchata had that perfect balance of sweetness and creaminess that is hard to come by in NYC. My friends got the tamarindo and jamaica varieties of agua Fresca, and they were equally as spectacular. Extremely generous portions and value - they could easily feed two people with one order. And to top it all off - the drink portions are also huge! $5 for what feels like a gallon of the best refresher in Austin is an absolute steal. Gonna try out their breakfast tacos tomorrow. Even without having tried them yet, If I had to eat at one spot for the rest of my life I can comfortably say I'd eat at Peloncitos.

Yelp
I'm gonna start with the tacos are automatically flour, so they're decent sized, I would've liked for them to be corn, ladies there were not attentive I had to ring the bell when they were just talking in front of me "for a while" it was not a work related subject so service was not the best. I asked for 3 bistek tacos while my mother asked for 3 Al pastor total came out to $24 which is ridiculous, the bistek was chopped up so much it was almost ground beef which I absolutely hate! Pastor was mediocre, I asked for grilled onions and grilled onions on tacos are usually cut long ways but this time it was like they were too lazy to do that so they used prepped onions already so I basically ordered a $4 picadillo taco WORST TACO SPOT IVE TRIED HERE IN AUSTIN DEFINITELY WILL NOT COME AGAIN

Yelp
This my closest stop for breakfast tacos. I always get the bacon egg and cheese on flour. They are always fast and perfectly cooked. I really like the red salsa here. Its just the right amount of spicy. They have a pretty solid menu that everyone is sure to find something they like on.

Yelp
The quesadillas with their amazing green hot sauce, are so delicious here!!!! I recommend this food truck with 5 stars

Yelp
Great place to go better than churches chicken or sonic across the street hot food consistent great salsa can use a credit card or cash. They need to work out with the the dumpster next to it. Because you can buy a beer next-door and get outside and joy it. No problem Getting breakfast tacos right now Chorizo egg Eagan cactus Yum Support our troops

Yelp
Don't sleep on this place - don't let the size or location of this truck fool you! The food is authentic + the flavor is most definitely there. This is my go-to taco spot!! Homemade flour tortillas, bomb* ass* pastor*, and for cheap. I love the pastor tacos on corn con todo, OR a sope -which closely resembles a Mexican pizza on a corn meal (masa) patty/crust, significantly thicker than a chalupa/chip. Their salsa verde is spicy but sooooo flavorful, haven't tried the red. There's two picnic tables to sit and eat, but they are barely covered by a small awning. Advanced level taco eaters: avoid the heat and call your order in ahead of your arrival, which is what I normally do. They accept cards, but tip in cash!

Yelp
Thinking it would be a budget friendly trailer ended up being $12 dollars for a torta y'all have me messed up.

Yelp
We were on our way to visit McKinney Falls State Park and stopped at this Taqueria based on all the positive reviews and closeness to the park. I'm just curious as to why hasn't anyone mentioned this taco stand is parked right next to a dumpster??? I assume most customers do a quick drive by and order their food to go; otherwise be ready to enjoy your meal while dodging flies along with the rancid nearby trash aroma. I ordered their Tacos Al Pastor ($2.00) and Beef Fajita ($2.00) in flour tortillas. Meat was dry but the fresh cilantro and onions did help enhance its overall flavor. Overall, price and food ain't bad but having the Taqueria next to a smelly, fly-ridden dumpster is just a deal-breaker for me. -JF

Yelp
Damn good food compared to a lot of taco trucks around the East Austin Area. My only complaint is the price, but hey... can't beat the taste.

Yelp
Great tacos and gringas. As other reviews have said don't be fooled by the location, they know what they are doing. Price is right. If you call be prepared to order in Spanish. Only knocking off a star because our first order with them was sort 2 items... But delicious.

Yelp
One of my favorite tacos trucks. They have the best breakfast tacos (my fave is bacon, egg, bean and cheese) and their pastor and chicken is so good. Not to mention some of my favorite salsa too!

Yelp
Loveeee this place wish it was open later. Not typically a corn tortilla I typically go for flour but it's a must try the corn tortillas they are homemade. Must try the gringa all the way they are pretty hefty.

Irving H.

Yelp
Won't ever go back to this place bad service the lady at the window didn't even offer to give me the right order

Katy E.

Yelp
I base five s on the food, price and getting the order and bill right. I always check orders no matter what establishment I patronize, and they have got it right so far after many pickups by me. Excellent corn tortilla steak tacos; I prefer mine with ciliontro and onions. I tried the shrimp tacos once, they are good- I simply prefer the steak ones. Love the red and green salsas that they have; they come in those tiny plastic containers- I pay extra to get a bunch with my orders. A favorite place here in Austin for me, which is saying something as Austin is where there is some of the best Mexican crusine available. I get the meals to go because to me the outside dining area is not conducive to even a modicum of a functional dining experience. Right next door to a c-store, actually is on the c-store lot. Took me over a year from when I moved into the area to try them- can't always judge a place by the circumstances of appearance.

Yelp
Found this place after leaving the COTA. This place rocks out some delicious tacos. Their mests were well seasoned and generous. Had 6 tacos, all were very good! The shrimp and fish tacos were the desserts.

Yelp
Omg, these are the absolute best tacos I have ever had. The corn tortillas are like butter because they are home made and soft. Now have my newest favorite spot
google avatar

Yelp
This place is so good, and they're so nice. Awesome corn tortillas. The pastor is great too. I've never been disappointed.

Yelp
Good spot.tacos always on point! rice n beans are the shit and homemade tortillas not like some other spots store bought...

Liz H.

Yelp
Good food, nice folks, low prices. I wish the vagrants would go away, but it's right on my way home and i can eat tex mex every day of the week--so it's all good. Beef fajita Gorditas are the bomb, breakfast tacos for my coworkers went so fast I didn't get one, rice and beans on point, flour tacos good too. Gotta try those corn tortillas!
