The 16 Best Taco Spots In Mexico City

"Polanco has every option imaginable when it comes to restaurants. And Anzures, the neighborhood just to the south, has Selene. It’s located right underneath a strip club and near a couple bigger and fancier taquerías, but this is where you’ll find the best al pastor in town. The key difference between Selene and their competitors is the ratio of meat to cheese—theirs features lots of pastor, with cheese as a garnish—and the crispiness of their meat. This spot is the definition of “if you know, you know,” when you ask locals. " - guillaume guevara

*5/5 Stars - An Unforgettable Taco Experience!* I recently discovered Taqueria Selene in Mexico City, and it's officially my go-to spot! (So good that my friends and I went there 3 times in 2 days). This incredible taqueria exceeded all expectations with its mouth-watering tacos, exceptional customer service and lightning-fast service. *Amazing Tacos* The tacos at Taqueria Selene are truly exceptional! Each bite is a flavor explosion thanks to the fresh, high-quality ingredients and generous fillings. The carnitas (melt-in-your-mouth pork) and al pastor (juicy, spicy pork) are must-trys! The carne asada (tender, grilled beef) is also incredibly delicious. *Exceptional Customer Service* From the moment you step in, the friendly staff greet you with warm smiles and attentive service. They're happy to explain the menu, offer recommendations and ensure your experience is top-notch. *Fast Service* Taqueria Selene's efficiency is impressive! Quick turnaround times don't compromise quality – every taco is carefully crafted. *Highlights* - Cozy, vibrant atmosphere perfect for casual dining. - Arrive early to avoid crowds. - Order the "Taco de gringa".

Our waitress at Quintonil recommended this taqueria specifically for their al pastor tacos and she did not lead us astray. We came on Friday afternoon around 4:45 and we able to get a table right away. We ordered the al pastor, steak and chorizo tacos as well as the al pastor torta. Everything was great but the al pastor tacos are what I am going to be missing when I leave Mexico City. Will definitely be going on my list of recommendations for friends visiting the city.

It’s a decent taco spot I can’t relate to all the freshness of food that everyone is referring to because I didn’t get that. The tacos were just okay and the prices are super affordable. The restaurant is very small and feels squished in a sense. Definitely a more chill kinda spot than posh. The service though is actually really good, appreciated that. There is wifi but you have to ask for the code. I’d recommend trying.

Google
If you're looking for the most authentic and amazing tacos in a no-frills neighborhood joint, look no further. I can't speak highly enough about the food here. It's all amazing and prepared exactly how it should be. If you're looking for the best tacos and beer in Mexico City, come here!

Google
Surprisingly, a very popular spot between foreigners (asians, south and north americans). And I say surprisingly because the food was ok, but nothing outstanding from the norm. If you are looking for very good tacos, there are other options around the zone— for a more traditional option, El Fogoncito is merely steps from there— and if you're looking for a quick & ok taco, I don't think this should be your option either. By the photo I took, you can admire that you pay 28 pesos for a taco with 10 cm diameter. You could get a better deal and taste in any other taco. By curiosity, I could here the tablee next to me were advised by a tourist guide telling them this were the best taco in the City (ha) so, Idk, maybe the fame behind them between the foreigners is because of these guides. Maybe, maybe not. In conclusion, expensive and meh tacos

My Daughter told me that everytime singer Luis Miguel comes to Mexico City eats in this place…not sure but what is sure is that you will not be disappointed coming to eat typical Mexican food here. Try the “gringas” and famous “pastor”. Muy buen sitio para saborear buena comida típica mexicana. Buen servicio!

Google
I thought the food was okay. El pastor is good, but I had some from a street vendor that was better. Others were mediocre. The tortas was a bit disappointing as it didn’t have lots of flavors in it. Staffs were super friendly. The ventilation in the restaurant isn’t great and it got hot and a little smoky from the grill.

Yelp
This place was amazing!! Quick service (I was the only one there at 4:30pm so that may have had something to do with it) and truly stellar food. This was my first meal in CDMX and my oh my was I unprepared. The flavors here are all just cracked up to an 11. The chorizo and cheese was greasy and succulent and indulgent. The al pastor was tender and complex and fragrant. The salsas were smoky and salty and spicy and fresh. Truly an incredible meal. The only downside was that it felt a tad expensive. It was around 200 pesos, which is like $10usd, and frankly I've gotten tacos for cheaper in mf Michigan of all places. Maybe they overcharged me because I was CLEARLY from out of town, but it was still a great taco experience. Would recommend!

Yelp
Great tacos and friendly local ambiance!!! Excellent service too! Seemed like it was a popular local spot.

Yelp
Al pastor for the win. The simple al pastor street tacos are great. If you want to add some flare add the queso which is almost like burnt cheese surrounding the al pastor served with fresh tortillas.

Yelp
Great food and fast service. If you're in CDMX and close it's a excellent spot to grab a bite. I'm uncertain if they offer a full bar, but they offer what appeared to be a good selection. The waiter gave me some direction when I ordered significantly more food than I should have. In my poor Spanish I was able to understand what he was getting at. Definitely eat here if you're in the area.

Yelp
We ate here 2 nights. Fast friendly service and amazing fast food. The portions were large, but was so good we managed to eat it all. We had Tacos, Tortas, Volcanos & Flan. The space is small but they make it work.

Yelp
They let us pick our table. Service was fast. Food was really good. We had chorizo and milanesa tacos, guacamole, and then they brought us extra tortillas at no extra cost. friendly and welcoming to two Americans with basic survival Spanish

Yelp
Seriously the best value we ever got for our al pastor tacos anywhere in Mexico. Recommended by our Airbnb host "not pretty place but great tacos". The recommendation was spot on.

Yelp
This tiny taqueria in the Anzures neighborhood has the best al pastor that I have ever had. We came with the Sabores Mexico Food Tour. This place cracks me up because it is a pork taco place started by a Lebanese Jew. Well, his gyros did not work out, but the thinly sliced pork topped with pineapple, chopped onion and cilantro on a silver dollar sized tortilla was awesome. Surprisingly, I preferred the gringa, which was the same fillings with melted cheese on a flour tortilla. I combined the tomatillo and serrano salsa and the chile de arbol salsa for an awesome combination. I highly recommend it. It is a dive and crowded but totally worth it. At least they have chairs!

Yelp
One of my favorite tacos al pastor. Basically behind the Camino Real and down a block. Since 1964. Open at noon until Late.

Yelp
In the land of the taqueria, one stands tall on top of the mexican mountain. I have been lucky enough to visit Mexico City many times, so trust me, my tongue has done its due diligence. Here's why: 1) I've traveled to 26 countries, and Selene's Gringa is one of the 10 tastiest things I've ever treated my tongue to. If you're not ordering at least 1 Gringa here, then my guess is we'll never be friends. 2) The tacos are automatically offered with extra meat, which make them look like a dinosaur squeezed into a tube top. 3) In fact, there was so much extra that I had some meat lying naked on my plate even after the tortilla was finished. One of Selene's waiters must have spotted this out of the corner of his sombrero because they came over with a new, warm tortilla to cover my shivering meat. 3) For essentially being a glorified taco shack, the bathrooms are bearable. Not that I would walk from home to here just to poop, but I wouldn't walk from here to home just to poop either. (Let that digest in your head). 4) Selene has reserved its place in modern-day society by offering free wifi. There are fancier and fluffier restaurants in Mexico City that aren't even doing this. 5) At one point, my waiter was busy with some other customers, so that same side-eyed chef spotted the gap in service and served me. I wouldn't be surprised if he had the food on the stove levitate while it waited so nobody got hurt and burnt. The chef even delivered my meal to my table so it was still hot on the plate. In fact, he was only 1 taboo away from delivering the meal directly from my plate to my mouth. 6) Not a joke - I literally carried home a taco from Selene in my suitcase on the flight back to the United States - yes, I declared it at customs, and yes, I declared it delicious. Really I'm being shy, but what I'm trying to say is.....Selene you beautiful meaty taqueria, will you marry me?

Yelp
Best Al Pastor ever. This is a can't miss spot if you are searching for a great taqueria in CDMX.
