This was a great place to eat. The food was super delicous and plentiful. We each had the Birria plate. It was super tasty and well seasoned, but not juicy like being freshly dipped in the consomme. I would have liked a more Chile forward and added vinegar consomme. The tamale was great and the chips and salsa bar was a bonus. Service was excellent and food comes out fast. A great go to restaurant.

Google
My family and I always come here to eat when they come to town. My hispanic parents are incredibly picky when it comes to their Mexican food...This is the only place they want to eat now. So, it's pretty good.

Google
breakfast burrito was good. Adovada and asada were good but way too salty. Lengua was chunky and cooked well but not much flavor. Love the grilled onion and pepper and the chips and salsa bar. Very nice people working there and the restaurant is very clean and bright.

Google
This is a great Mexican restaurant. The food tastes authentic. I got the carne asada fajitas with beans and rice, and I got an order of queso birria tacos with consomé. The asada was cooked well and tasted great. The beans were slightly salty while the rice was slightly under seasoned, but they balanced each other. As for the queso birria was lacking a little in flavor, and the consomé tasted watered down. My friends had the carne asada plate, Jalisco plate with the shrimp changed to a la diabla, and another carne asada fajitas. They all enjoyed their food. The atmosphere was lively, and the place was clean. The workers are kind, and the food wait time was pretty quick. We would definitely come back, next time we are in the area.

Google
This is a very good Mexican restaurant that I don’t call what is normally considered TexMex style. The place is clean and decorated in traditional colors inside and out. This place went through previous ownership and this place came in and I feel they will make it just fine. Watch their sign ad the have specials on different days. Spend you money here as you dollar will turn over approx 7 times in our local economy and remember this place is better then the TexMex stele places.

Google
We come every Tuesday. It’s our favorite. Best tacos in town and a great value. This plate was $18 including the Modelo!

Google
Super casual and cozy restaurant with plenty of parking. Loved the Mexican decor and atmosphere. Good food and affordable.

Yelp
Holy smokes these were the best tacos I've had in Idaho! The restaurant has a chill ambiance and so far all the staff have been super polite. The tacos were next level! We ordered the carne asada, tripa, lengua, carnitas and adobada tacos. The tacos resemble Mexican street tacos so they're on the smaller side. They also add cooked peppers and pickled carrots on the side, as well as red and green salsa. Overall, these tacos were bomb and I highly recommend you check them out!

Yelp
We love going were once a week for our barria ramen fix. They add onions and cheese and give you salsa to put in it, so tasty! They have salsa bar inside and service is always great! It is order at the counter or drive through, or you can call ahead to pick up for faster service. Everything is made to order so there is a small wait but it's worth it. The ambiance inside is Mexican restaurant fast food vibes. I highly recommend it!

Yelp
Moved from So Cal to Boise and was determined to find good Mexican food - HERE IT IS! This place is delicious and the service and ambiance are also on point. They make all their food fresh and have house made Agua de Jamaica and Horchata. And the Quesabirrias (like a quesadilla taco with birria meat) oh my. Most delicious I've probably ever tried. Alsoooo tested out the pozole so I can get it in winter and it's 10/10.
google avatar

Dani S.

Yelp
The quesabirrias here never disappoint!! The meat is so tender. The cheese is melty. The meat to tortilla ratio is great! The cheese pull is so good. The roasted jalapeno is tasty. The service here is always great! The restaurant is colorful and clean. My go to place for a good Mexican style meal.

Yelp
Wow. Great food at a solid price. Very friendly staff, and a fun interior. Takes me back to some childhood home cooking. Very good. Will definitely be back regularly.

Alexander Q.

Yelp
The BEST Mexican food around! This is my families favorite restaurant. The establishment is always spotless, the staff are always super friendly and always right there ready to help you. The food gets to you quick even if they're jammed pack with the drive through and eat in. Their food has never disappointed! The decor is super awesome as well!
google avatar

Hmmmmm O.

Yelp
Food was very good! Service nice, and ambiance good too. Great salsa choices which I loved. I had the two carne tacos. Both loaded with meat too so I left very full! For that price with rice and beans, I'll definitely be back!!
google avatar

Yelp
Best spot in Boise for fast Mexican food. Love the tamales!!!! Staff is helpful and restaurant is clean.

Faith H.

Yelp
Always very good. The service is great. Food is great. 10/10 every time. Wish they would open up a sister restaurant that was an actual sit down with more options because they can cook!

Brent C.

Yelp
We shared the Chili Verde 3 enchiladas plate. It was real good. I loved the self serve chips and salsa! You could tell the Chips were homemade. Salsa was a bit runny but good.
google avatar

Kyle C.

Yelp
Great food and great music! The menudo is fantastic. Salsa bar is fire. Thanks for keeping it traditional!
google avatar

Jamie S.

Yelp
I've been through the drive-thru here several times. Their prices are not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for! On taco Tuesday they have discounted tacos, so this is the best time to come for a deal. The service is friendly, the food is great quality. I especially like their chicken tacos. Their salsas can be very spicy! But so flavorful. Definitely give this place a try if you're in the area. It's not too far from the fairgrounds.
google avatar

Yelp
Food is good, staff very nice, salsa bar lots of variety. I will definitely be back. Chicken burrito filled the hole left by Pollo Rey.

Yelp
this is the perfect mixture of authentic and also not. Their beans and rice are step above and their verde enchiladas are amazing., their pricing is spot on and This last time we just got Carne Asada tacos and they're super simple and super good. I can't wait to go visit them in person

Yelp
Stopped off here for a quick taco or two but ended up getting the two taco plate with rice and beans. I ordered chicken tacos without onions. I first got myself some chips and tried all three salsa from the salsa bar. Chips were good. Salsas were ok. Most restaurants have better salsa but they weren't terrible. My food came out quickly. I dove into the rice and beans. Again, these were ok, even maybe good, but not great or memorable. Then I sunk my teeth into the chicken taco. This was very good. I had put the salsa verde on it which worked out really well, but even without salsa the chicken was super juicy and tender. The double tortillas were soft and soaked up the juices without falling apart. I really enjoyed the tacos. My only complaint is that they were a tad salty. If the salt were dialed down some, I'd give 5 stars for the chicken tacos. Next time, and I'm sure I'll go back, I'll just get a couple tacos. They give you quite a bit of chicken and unless you're starving or a bigger person or you burn lots of calories, two tacos definitely would hit the spot I think. With tax it's less than $5, and quite a bit tastier than the Taco Bell next door.

Yelp
Great service. Food is pretty good for this area, it's hard to find good good Mexican. All in all fairly good food. 4 star review.
google avatar

Yelp
This restaurant was not just bad. It was worse than that. The carne asada was like shoe leather and even less flavorful...the horchata was awful. Tasted like cleaning fluid. The fish tacos were terrible too. Nothing was good and to make matters worse it was very expensive. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemies

Yelp
I really really really wanted Taqueria Sol De Jalisco to be our go-to but it was too good to be true. After wine tasting, we were hungry and decided to stop by. My wife is from Mexico and really should open her own restaurant. My brother used to live in San Diego and now lives in Phoenix. I on the other hand have been to Mexico countless times and have eaten Mexican in full carnivore mode as well as in my current vegan mode. The service was okay and the team was willing to make me a veggie burrito without cheese and sour cream. The chip and salsa area were okay. Nothing spectacular as I was hoping that there would be some spice in the salsas but only the dark red one had just a hint of cumin and garlic it did need a little more salt. My wife ordered Tacos Al Pastor but received Carne Asada. There were no cilantro or onions on the tacos, they arrived plain. The menu is pretty big and I would recommend parring it down and focusing on key menu items and perfecting them. Perhaps I am asking for too much but really what I am asking is for authenticity, and in my opinion, Taqueria Sol De Jalisco doesn't have it.

John S.

Yelp
If you want really bad chili Reno's go here. They use canned chilies and eggs.. that's it! They don't even rinse the chilies giving that true canned flavor. Lazy, bad, and cold!
google avatar

Yelp
I've only ordered from Door dash so not aware of the insides of this establishment but the barria Taco is to die for. Very full of meat and worth the high cost.

Yelp
This is some really goood mexican food. Like really good, so good it is now my new spot as it reminds me of many spots I went to in Mazatlan. Price, food, service and cleanliness of the restaurant are all done very well. You get free chips and salsa, really tasty pickled peppers and veggies. The salsa was probably my only complaint too, but the pico made up for it. I had their Birria Tacos, carnitas tacos, and my gf had the Sopes. All were excellent! Their carnitas comes shredded and then seared, which I like more then the chunked carnitas. The sopes were tasty and fried to perfection. This place has had a few other restaurants in it before and they all failed. This one will be here a long time if they keep it up!

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised with this recently opened business. It replaced a Mexican restaurant that had been closed for over a year. It is located between Taco Bell and Shari's at the intersection of Chinden and Glenwood. There is a drive-thru but we opted to eat inside. The perfect place for Idahoans. For more accomplished patrons who have experienced the better cuisine of Mexico in either California or South of the Border, there are two meals of special note. SUNDAY MENUDO with handmade tortillas. EVERYDAY - 3 quesobirria tacos with consome. Additonally, there are two classic choices for a shrimp dinner - hot like the devil or garlic. For those stuck in the Gringo lane on the menu, there are Carne Asada Fries. The process is to order at a counter, pay for your meal, then seat yourself and wait for your number to be called. You pick it up from the counter. There is a nice salsa bar complete with marinated carrots and self-serve tortilla chips. Nice selection and very tasty stuff. We had the flautas and the roasted chicken. The flautas were filled with chicken. The roasted chicken was very tasty with a good marinade, but it was dry. Thick flour tortillas came with the roasted chicken - a plus. Both meals came with very tasty beans and rice. The interior of the dining room has beautiful new furniture and everything appeared to be very clean, even with patrons busing their own tables. Big upside for this place is that the prices are very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. We have tried many similar "Mexican" restaurants in the Treasure Valley only to be terribly disappointed with the "Gringoization" and lack of flavor at those places. We have given up on going to places recommended by locals, as so many of these establishments totally butcher beans, rice, salsas and tortillas or swamp the meal with disgusting loads of melted yellow cheese, we were expecting the same kind of slop from this place. (NOTE TO GRINGOS - there is no yellow cheese in Mexico). What we found at Taqueria Sol de Jalisco was an excellent source of "near-Mexican" food that emphasizes FLAVOR. They have a very good selection of bottled Mexican beer. One point to make which did not please us...the utensils are plastic and the paper napkins are too thin. Ownership should think about supplying better than these things in the dining room. For takeout they make sense, but not in the dining room.

Yelp
I'm so glad I found this place. It has become my go to for Mexican food. They have a little chips & salsa bar next to the soda fountain that you can self-serve when you dine in, but more often than not I just swing through the drive thru to pick something up on my way home. (I love that they have a drive thru!) Their menu is quite large so it can be overwhelming if you're looking at it for the first time, but the prices are pretty good so it's hard to go wrong. My usuals are the carnitas tacos and the tamale plate. They also have pozole on the weekends now! I have been looking for a place that serves good pozole, and am so happy to have found one. It's a fairly large size, so I usually end up eating it for two meals. I am also a big fan of quesabirria, but have found it better elsewhere so I just stick to my other favorites here instead. The staff is always so kind and accommodating if you need to make any adjustments or substitutions. They are usually open pretty late relative to other places in the area, which I appreciate very much. I try to come here any chance I get!

Yelp
Very tasty and friendly! Had the tacos and enchiladas. We both enjoyed our meal and the salsa bar.

Yelp
"Taqueria Sol de Jalisco" "Taqueria" refers to a type of restaurant that specializes in tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and tortas; the word originates from "tacos." "Sol de" in Spanish means "Sun of," and "Jalisco" is the name of a state in western Mexico known for its deep cultural influence on Mexican identity and traditions. Put together, the name means "Taqueria Sun of Jalisco." At this restaurant, you immediately catch the delicious smell of warm beans the second you walk in. The smell of gooey cheese, savory beans, and sweet desserts fills the air, with the smell of cinnamon and sugar from the churros and vanilla from the fried ice cream. The authentic Mexican decorations and friendly staff make you feel like you're truly dining in Mexico. To start the night, I had horchata. It was sweet, cold, creamy, and silky. I also ordered a quesadilla, which had warm, gooey cheese, and the tortilla was perfectly crunchy. The homemade tortilla made a difference, adding a warm, soft, and melt-in-your-mouth quality. I finished the night with churros and fried ice cream. The churros were perfectly crisp on the outside, yet soft and warm on the inside, coated in just the right amount of cinnamon and sugar. Each bite was a delicious crunch. The fried ice cream was a delightful treat--it was cold and creamy, with a crispy, golden-brown shell that added a satisfying crunch. The contrast between the warm, crunchy exterior and the cold, smooth ice cream interior was simply delicious there is no other way to explain it except delicious. The vanilla flavor of the ice cream blended perfectly with the rich, caramelized crust, making each bite taste like a little piece of heaven. This dessert was the perfect ending to a fantastic meal, and I couldn't have asked for a better way to finish the night. I would rate this five stars. It was a wonderful experience, very family-friendly, and I'll definitely be going back. I highly recommend it take a look and try it for yourself. The food was delicious, or as you would say in Mexico, la comida estuvo deliciosa. To sum it all up, this restaurant redefines family-owned dining. The food is made with love, and you feel like part of the family when you enter.

Yelp
Best counter service Mexican food in Boise. Slowly working my way through their menu, but here are the items I've tried and loved so far: * Birria Tacos (braised beef) * Lengua in tacos or burritos * Salsa bar - good chips and many good salsas. The place is always clean, and the service is excellent!
google avatar

Jean L.

Yelp
We love this little place! The food is always good abs fresh and the prices are reasonable. A fav lunch spot

Yelp
Been here a couple times. Every time we come it Is busy. Having the chips and Condiments out is a plus while you're waiting On your food. Everything we haven't tried here has been delicious and taste like authentic food.

Yelp
Food is amazing! Salsas are dynamite! You order a bean burrito and it is huge! I love the ground beef tacos and Asada.

Salvador R.

Yelp
Fresh food, great authentic and tasteful. The service is really, and the restaurant is kept clean. The chip bar always fresh, clean and organized. Highly recommend this place. I've had food from the breakfast menu and dinner menu.

Yelp
We just tried this brand new spot. Honestly, it's about 4.5 stars. I ordered several things for us to try and got it to go. The good: The restaurant is clean and inviting. Definitely no frills, but I'm not eating the ambiance. You order at the counter, and pick up the food to go or take to your table. Hungry while you wait? Stop at the salsa free warm chip bar. Help yourself! A nicer selection of meats. To many americanized Mexican joints in this town stick to the standard, beef, chicken, pork. (And let's not talk about cheddar cheese!). This spot has spicy pork and carnitas and is also offering tripas (tripe) and lengua (tongue). They balance their menu between expected items like tacos burritos, quesadillas, with things like Camerones a la de diabla (spicy shrimp), steak bistek tortas along with militas and sopas and others. My to go order had tacos, militas, sopas, and pollo a la crema. Everything was packaged superbly and made it home without mess if any kind! They do offer a drive through, but I wanted to see inside and I'm so glad I did. As for the meat, I enjoyed them all as did my husband. I didn't not enjoy the tongue militas, no fault to the food. I didn't like the cheese with the meat (truly a personal preference). But the meat when tasted alone was outstanding. I usually find chicken through our favorite Mexican food spots to be a bit dry, usually being a type of pulled chicken. Thiers was a bit like this, but was excellent in the taco. They offer a decent selection of bottled beers and Mexican bottled sodas along with a soda machine. The ok: As with almost all our local tries, the rice was ok. The beans were ok as well. Not the best in town, but ok. I found their standard green and red salsa underwhelming not particularly tasty and without heat. Standard for this state, sadly. There is a smooth, kind of creamy looking green salsa on the bar. This has a back kick and is outstanding. Like spice? Stick to this deliciousness. The bad: Really nothing. OVERALL: Polite service (she even remembered me by sight and there were 8 orders come through the counter after mine.). Free salsa and chip bar? Yes! Even while waiting for my to go order. Provided to go salsa cups and if you're u ask a bag to take them home. Win! The bottom line, this new spot is pretty tasty. They do not dethrone the best Mexican in town though. Carniceria Coalcoman off Fairview between Curtis and Orchard holds that title. More meats, almost entirely traditional Mexican offerings. Great salsa bar (sadly no chips). No frills seating. Counter order and they bring it out. But their offerings are the most diverse and not catering to America palates. (Buy three pounds of their homemade carnitas and your half way through making your own enchiladas another day!). The best refried beans can be had here. My daughter gets a side of them every time we go. Plus they offer a nice store and meat counter. BUT, sometimes their hours are restrictive or closed on days we want to eat good Mexican. And now we can come here and confidently know we will have good food, in a decent spot. If you cannot go there, come here. No real downsides!

Yelp
This building has been the location for numerous fast-ish Mexican food joints over the years. Taqueria Sol De Jalisco has been the best thus far. I am hopeful our community embraces the authentic flavors and reasonable prices. What works? 1) Fresh and authentic 2) Good selection of options but not so many to overwhelm 3) Reasonable prices 4) Free chips @ salsa bar 5) Fresh salsa bar What I would request of Taqueria Sol De Jalisco? 1) Maintain the focus on fresh and authentic 2) Maintain reasonable prices Thanks for the great food!

Yelp
Great food service and the portion sizes are great! Definitely go there hungry. I got the speciality burrito and it was good although could use more steak in it.

Yelp
Best Mexican in the Treasure Valley! The menudo is an absolute treat and the carnitas tacos keep me coming back for more

Yelp
I've been here 3 times now. The food is good and affordable. It's safe American style Mexican food. The counter service is polite and friendly. The restaurant is clean. Tried several dishes and liked them all. I'm not a picky eater. We will continue to eat here.

Yelp
Wonderful food and great service. If you've had trouble finding solid Mexican food in the Boise area then definitely give this place a try. Ate there yesterday for the first time, ate there today for the second time, and very much plan on eating there again tomorrow ... it's been too long since have had good Mexican !!!

Yelp
Ok, the Tamales are awesome! Yes, this is our 3rd 2 dozen order in like 2 weeks and they have been perfect every time

Paul M.

Yelp
This is our go to spot when we are in the mood for Mexican food and need something a little quicker than usual. It's consistently good and we love going back.
google avatar

TOM H.

Yelp
Food is excellent. The place is clean and well kept. The only possible downside is that you need to go up to the counter to order and pick up your order.

Mike M.

Yelp
Good selection, nice choices of salsa/ sauces, authentic actual food that tastes good.

D C.

Yelp
Love this place. Great authentic mexican food reasonably priced. FREE chips and salsa, just as ALL mexican restaurants should be! They have lengua and tripa as choices for meats. My husband loves that and their super burrito which is enormous!
google avatar

Karla P.

Yelp
THIS IS IT! Finally made it to Taqueria Sol De Jalisco. In the span of a week, we have already been there 3 times! Boise was starved for a really good taqueria and this is it! It is the closest thing to California Mexican food, yes I said it, we have found in the Treasure Valley. It's super fresh and everything is super clean. The chip and salsa bar is really good too. My picky 9-year-old who doesn't like anything even loves it!
google avatar

Kevin P.

Yelp
I love this place Delicious, authentic and reasonable...best mex in the area! I've tried most all Mexican restaurants in the area, this is my favorite. The staff is very friendly always smiling. Try it you'll like it!

Yelp
Any shop that's closed on a Sunday and isn't 24/7 you know is good. Sol de Jalisco knows what they are doing. I lived in San Diego for over 20 years so I know Mexican food. Let me just say this spot is probably 95% better than any taco spot I've ever been to. The carne asada is seasoned and cooked perfectly, the salsas are always fresh and the staff is so friendly. I recommend the Carne asada torta (Mexican sandwich) *meat well done. Street tacos are also delicious. Honestly you can't go wrong with whatever you order. Enjoy! And thank you Sol de Jalisco

Julio S.

Yelp
We had the posole and tacos. The tacos were asada, adobada, and carnitas. The salsa and chip bar was probably the best thing they had. The asada was greasy, and the carnitas were like dry and old tasting. the posole was bland. i had to add a lot of salt, dry chile de arbol , and a lil oregano to bring out the flavor of a posole de Jalisco. Place is called Sol de Jalisco... Over all it was ok, My family is from Guadalajara ... and I know red posole.
