Taqueria Tlaxcali is a casual Mexican gem in the Bronx, serving massive burritos and grilled fish tacos that redefine comfort food.
"The burritos at this Mexican spot in Parkchester are approximately the size of bolster pillows, and they’re a delicious way to say “and, scene” on your day. But considering you’re reading this guide, your experience here will be a bit different. The fish used in the taco is grilled rather than fried, and it’s just topped with onion, cilantro, and lime. It’s light and refreshing enough to order as a morning snack when they open at 10am, but thanks in part to the freshly made tortillas, delicious enough to be the centerpiece of dinner. You can choose to add sour cream and a variety of different cheeses, but we recommend keeping the tacos simple, and if you’re still hungry, trying to make a dent in a burrito." - matt tervooren
"Taqueria Tlaxcalli's burrito is the size of a kitten, and comes with tons of cheesy rice inside, plus colorful stripes of sauce on top. It's possibly the best in the city. Get the steak burrito or an order of grilled fish tacos to celebrate the filling out the most important bureaucratic form you’ll encounter in the next decade." - hannah albertine, nikko duren
"Taqueria Tlaxcalli serves one of the better burritos in the city, and they’re accepting delivery and takeout orders via phone at 347-851-3085." - hannah albertine, nikko duren, matt tervooren
"Taqueria Tlaxcali’s massive burritos will shamelessly embarrass the burritos of your past (and certainly the one you tried to make the other day with leftover rotisserie chicken). Aside from their burritos, Taqueria Tlaxcali serves great grilled fish tacos, fajitas, and plates of pork chops with rice and beans. They’re open for takeout and delivery via phone at 347-851-3085 or online." - hannah albertine
"Get off the 6 Train at Castle Hill Avenue in the Bronx and you’ll be just a few blocks away from one of the better burritos in the city. Taqueria Tlaxcalli serves great Mexican food in a casual space with an open kitchen and a TV in the corner. We especially like the fish tacos (the fish is grilled, not fried) and the steak burrito (it’s the size of a kitten, and comes with tons of cheesy rice inside, plus colorful stripes of sauce on top). The space isn’t huge and it can get crowded, but you can always order to-go if you don’t want to sit down." - Hannah Albertine
