A Japanese Market called Wagaya Groceries Opens Inside Robatayaki and Sake Restaurant Chirori in Midtown, Atlanta | Eater Atlanta

"The Roswell Road location of Taqueria Tsunami is now closed; I was told owner Scott Kinsey cited financial losses stemming from the ongoing health crisis as the reason. Other Taqueria Tsunami locations at Madison Yards in Reynoldstown, Marietta, Roswell, East Cobb, Woodstock, and Peachtree Corners remain open for dine-in service, takeout, and curbside pick-up." - Beth McKibben

I ate at bar and have wonderful experience with my server. She was very attentive and just had good pulse on when to checkup and make sure I was attended too without being overbearing.

Drooped off at the entrance, the Manager greeted me as soon as I entered. Upon my husband’s entrance, we were quickly seated and our waiter appeared within one to two minutes. He introduced himself, explained the menu and took our drink and appetizer orders. We perused the menu, deciding the different taco choices we wanted to try. We were impressed with everything we ate. We agreed the sauces were flavorful, the creations and combinations of each taco choice were beyond “the every day more common tacos. Along with our tasty appetizers and sides, the tacos were actually the best tacos we’ve ever eaten. From the many types of taco’s they offer, they must be a top menu item. We will definitely return!

Google
Different kind of place. Not Mexican totally but there are Mexican dishes and nachos. A little Mexican, Korean, Spanish and American . I got the American Bowl. It was delicious and definitely a new taste for me. My only complaint is that they don’t bring unlimited nachos to the table . I thought that was odd . This place is on my favorite place list.

Google
The flavors here are On Point! I've had most of the tacos and sides and a couple of the bowls and salads. Everything is absolutely delicious and very fresh and clean tasting. Service is great, and it's the one place around town that hasn't gone insane with its prices. Highly recommend.

Stopped in for an afternoon bite and was delighted to discover this gem! I was not hungry but wanted a little snack. Luckily for me, they have a lot of finger foods for you to choose from. My server was so attentive and made sure I was informed about the menu. The vibe was very chill. I could have sat there all day long! I ordered the avocado egg rolls and some queso. The egg rolls were sensational. I’ve never had guacamole quite like that before. There may be no turning back. The queso was good too. The chips were really crushed up though. Last I could not leave this spot without seeing if they could make some A+ churros. They did not disappoint! These churros were crunchy, chewy and perfectly dusted. I could come back just for them lol. Overall great spot. I hear they are all over ATL. Stop by one when you get a chance. Tell them that ASH SAID IT sent ya! #ashsaidit

Their food is outstanding and so much better than your typical taco place. They have a great patio as well - it’s enclosed so super safe for little kids to run around.

Google
You can find high quality dishes made from fresh ingredients here. The place is very clean and well-managed. We tried chicken enchiladas and it tastes amazing. Price-wise, that specific dish was priced reasonably - $11 - but starters (e.g., guacamole is a bit pricey $8-9). I will definitely visit this place again. Recommend.

Google
My wife and I have been to a few other locations and since we were the area we decided to give it a try. The reason for three star rating is due to the following: The cheese queso was extremely runny and lack any flavor. Our waiter only came to our table twice which I had to wave down another waitress and ask for a refill on our fountain drinks. This was the only time someone ever came to our table. A HUGE party came in after we sat down which they were very loud. They say them right in the front which is weird because I would assume they would have sat them further back in the restaurant so to try and mitigate disturbing the rest of the guests. I’m not sure if it was the manager or not but he just stood in the back of the restaurant with his arm crossed (helpful hint: if you see your staff running around like chickens with no heads, maybe you should help them out). The staff appeared to be younger which I tried my best to be patient. Overall, the food was so-so… Nothing to crave over. I don’t foresee us coming back.

Yelp
The service was quick and very good. We initially were seated in a recently-wiped wet, vinegar-y booth and table, so we moved. The food was just all right, nothing special. The poke taco appetizer was underwhelming, the steak taco was tough but it's the type of cut of meat. The shrimp in the quesadillas were really good. Good for causal fast easy option

Yelp
We happened to stumble into Taqueria Tsunami by chance. My daughter wanted pasta, so we aimed to eat at an Italian place a few doors down from this place but when they somehow incredulously didn't have pasta, we kept it moving and walked into Taqueria Tsunami instead. Like I told my daughter, I'm so glad the original place we went to didn't have pasta because otherwise we would never have discovered a new gem of a restaurant. My parents can sometimes be hard to please when it comes to dining out but even they agreed that Taqueria Tsunami was a great find. The service was top notch and the food was outstanding! Our server accidentally spilled queso dip on the back of my dad's jacket and both he and the manager were very apologetic and attentive. The server immediately cleaned up as best he could and the manager offered to pay for the jacket to be dry cleaned, which we thanked him for but did not think was necessary as the jacket was easily cleaned. Since we did not accept the dry cleaning offer, they gave us a nice discount on the bill, which we did not ask for or expect but did appreciate. We thought that both the server and the manager handled the situation very professionally. As for the food, it was also amazing. We ordered the queso dip with jalapeño and pico de gallo on the side and it was a hit with everyone. My brother ordered birria tacos with yucca fries that he raved about the whole time. My daughter ordered chicken fingers with tater tots, I ordered a steak & cheese quesadilla with tater tots and jalapeño cheese sauce, and my parents split a tuna poke bowl. My parents each received their own bowl, which had already been split but was clearly from a very generous portion. Everyone loved their food. I was happy to like it so much because I know we have a location closer to us in Roswell, which I will likely visit soon and probably start frequenting if it lives up to the high bar set by the Marietta Square location. All in all, walking into Taqueria Tsunami turned out to be a happy accident that I definitely plan to repeat soon and often thanks to the great experience we had. I also like their eclectic menu options that are a unique blend of Latin and Asian flavors. Can't wait to try other dishes there too!

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday evening and thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Inside it's got a typical casual sit down restaurant feel. Food was all great, as were the drinks, and my favorite was the bang bang cauliflower. Our waiter was attentive but it just took us a while to get some of our items, and there was some confusion with the kitchen as to what items had run out or not, which seemed a little odd as the restaurant wasn't that busy.

Yelp
I've come here a couple times and really enjoyed it. We started with the avocado Egg Rolls. They were a lot better than I was expecting. I do wish there was more in the portion but that's because they were so delicious. The main entree I ordered was the Short Rib Quesadilla which comes with one side of choice. The side, Cucumber Salad, was very refreshing and healthy. My husband chose 3 tacos which also came with a side. He ordered the Black beans and rice which were pretty good. Our server was fantastic and very helpful in choosing new entrees we haven't had before. The restaurant itself seemed cleaned and you can every have a fortune cookie on your way out. I'd highly recommend trying this restaurant. You might just come right back!

Yelp
As always, everything here is great! The outside patio is so cute. Great service, cocktails & food. Get the asian nachos, love the wonton chips! Their bowls are all wonderful, filling & healthy!

Yelp
Came here before a concert in Alpharetta on a Friday night and took a bit to get seated. Once we were seated, we ordered almost immediately. Our drinks took a while to come out, but they were enjoyable. The frozen mango margarita had a great flavor to it and it almost hid the taste of alcohol. I had a quesadilla with a side of tots and I devoured it so quickly. The food is pretty good and I'm sure their fusion foods are great to try

Yelp
I love this place ! The food is amazing and service is the best. My family and I decided to dine here after visiting a relative in a nearby nursing home. We were tired and hungry - we started off with the avocado cilantro rolls, calamari and beef short rib empanadas. I also ordered the Elderflower Paloma. Everything delicious and fresh - even the drink. We ordered the following for our main entrees: Tai Chicken Taco, Asada Zing the all American grill with grilled chicken add chili lime salt with two eggs ~~ omg this is amazing ! The waitress recommended and she was so right ! Everyone at the table wanted it. I will be back !

Yelp
I love this place so much! I have taken all my family--smart of me to do it one person at a time so I get to go more. I love the vegan tacos and the noodle salad. My all time favorite is the cauliflower--sweet, spicy and crunchy! I get it int he taco and on the noodle salad and bowls. I think I could eat it 3x a day. My family loved the Baja fish tacos and the shrimp tacos. And the guac is magical. I need to find more family to take here. I think I have a cousin around here somewhere.

Yelp
Walk in the door and the vibe is relaxed and comfy. It's not the stuffy feel I feared it'd be. I actually avoided coming in without a 'date' because for some reason, I thought it was going to be upscale, pricey and formal because it's a fusion place. I was wrong. People are here in tshirts, shorts, and though it is full service and there's a full drink menu and great fusion meal options, it's not even a little bit pretentious. Leave your preconceived notions at the door and come on in! The gringo tacos (sorry, no picture, I grabbed and started eating too fast)... but if you're afraid to fuse-ion, this is definitely a safe 'gringo' option. If you're into fusion, you're probably gonna really love the selection! Half the menu is fusion drinks too! I got the Tsunami Wave, Texas Style... if you like bitter, don't get this... but i like sweet, and it was scrumptious.

Yelp
We came for a party of 14. Food was delicious. Service was great. The atmosphere could be more popping...

Yelp
Visited during Roswell Restaurant Week and had a great experience! Our waitress was so sweet and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. My friend and I got to try so many items, I was absolutely stuffed by the end of the meal. I had the wonton nachos, avocado egg rolls, southwest salad with grilled chicken, the churros, and tasted the chicken enchilada bowl and a piece of the short rib from a taco. The elote corn salad on the nachos was delicious, but I wasn't a fan of the wonton chips. The salad was huge, but I wasn't a huge fan of the grilled chicken , maybe the fried chicken would be better. The bowl was ok, not as flavorful as I had hoped. The churros were ok, but inconsistent with the cinnamon sugar. The avocado egg rolls though?! Definitely the best thing I had. The short rib meat was delicious too. Oh and the drinks! I had the Asian pear sangria which was super tasty. I also had the mango sangrita, but I was not a fan of the taste. Neither drinks were strong. Still, had a good experience here and will be back for the egg rolls, short rib taco (and others) and to try more drinks.

Yelp
Always a great place to go. The food is really good and a good value. The Asian influence is wonderful. I really enjoy the tacos, cheese dip, cucumbers and the fried cauliflower

Yelp
Phenomenon Tacos!! I mean it! I don't use that word very often ! Lol .. but seriously, The Quattro is a great deal, with 3 premium tacos and 1 side. I went with the Thai Chicken and the Rich Man (steak) tacos and I'm hooked! Both are on point! Delicious and nutritious and most likely the healthier on the menu. Pair that with the cucumber salad and you're all fueled up for the gym like me The server was friendly and has my food out in 5 min! Can't beat that! Chill music and plenty of space for larger parties. Check out the roof top seating ! They have live music sometimes as well.

Yelp
Upon making my rounds of browsing through Uber Eats for something a little different, this place immediately caught my attention. This was largely due to the notable variety of tacos displayed on the menu which was certainly an alluring sight for these eyes. After finally deciding to take that final step in risky financial decision making, I decided to order the Avocado Cilantro Egg Rolls, Chicken Enchilada Bowl, Asada Zing Taco, and Korean Carnitas taco. And just from this first time order alone, I knew that I discovered something special. The bowl was tasty enough to warrant ordering again (though I'd imagine it's even better at the restaurant) and the avocado egg rolls were a huge hit for me despite it being unfortunately hot and not appropriately cool from the delivery. The two aforementioned tacos were pretty okay but nothing that I'd get excited over. However, what I experienced there was potential with what the other unique tacos would taste like. So...I explored. Couple weeks later I ordered again and got the South of the Border Bowl which was good but felt like it was missing something to really push it over the edge. However, the tacos that I ordered this time is where I officially fell in love and made this restaurant a possible go-to every other week. These were the Shrimp Tempura taco, Baja Taco, and Gringo Taco. These were absolutely delicious and became instant favorites for me. Honestly, I could've eaten like 10 of these and die happy. Mark this down as the first time that a fish related taco excited my tastebuds. Now I know the combo of items that I'll be ordering on rotation, and as a bonus, the pricing isn't too far off from other popular restaurants in this category of cuisine ordering. My advice: give this place a shot and even if one or two tacos don't excite you, try the others anyway. It's worth it.

Yelp
I have been to Taqueria Tsunami at least 7 times (the location in Roswell 4 times in total) over the past 8 years, and enjoyed it less and less each time. I used to get so excited to go, but my most recent visit will likely be my last. As they have expanded and opened more locations I have experienced lower quality and less flavorful food. PROS: - I appreciate that they have a couple of tacos and appetizers that are vegan even without any modifications. - Always experienced consistent, friendly enough, quick service. - My son seems to enjoy their queso. - The tacos are stuffed full. CONS (This is really all about the food.): - It's lacking in flavor these days. They could use more seasoning and definitely more love in the kitchen. - The tacos get soggy before you can finish your first. - Beans have little to no flavor. - The rice was over cooked, and was a big ball of mush (instead of separate grains of rice). - The cauliflower app is tasty, but unfortunately because they drench it in the sauce it loses its fried crispiness almost immediately -- what's the point of eating fried junk food if it's not crispy?? :_( . I would appreciate if they served the sauce on the side for dipping. This way it could be reheated and eaten leftover as well!

Yelp
Been to this location about four or five times now. This visit was as great as the last. We sat outside and enjoyed the fresh air/scenery. Food was really good overall. Service even better!
google avatar

Simone H.

Yelp
The food was good, we ordered a few different appetizers and I had the taco trio. I have to say, I'm not sure if I was thirsty or dehydrated, but the water they give you is so good! Literally the crisp, fresh, pure taste was amazing. I don't know where they get that water. It tastes like alkaline but better. I'd be shocked to find out it's tap! I hate tap water. But the water with lemons was refreshing. Service was excellent as well. Believe it or not, the tea I ordered was from Kroger, but it was great. Had to be the water again.
google avatar

Benjamin C.

Yelp
It seems like more and more of these fusion taco places are popping up everywhere. I'm a firm believer that tacos are best cooked and eaten street style, but nevertheless, these fancier restaurant tacos are still really tasty. And these from the Taqueria Tsunami were no different. Tasty Korean style tacos and even an empanada, but a little small on the portions. The fried yuca and cheese dipping sauce was unique, so points for that. Overall, worth checking out.

Elise B.

Yelp
The food and service were amazing. Our server Cooper was attentive and very accommodating to our multiple requests and subsitutions. I highly recommend the Korean friend cauliflower.
google avatar

Abigail N.

Yelp
Good service and good food! Glad that they had vegan options, but wish they were more clearly labled on the menu!
google avatar

Julia E.

Yelp
Did not like this restaurant in the past, but it has really improved, and I was with several people who all thought the food was delicious.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been here multiple times. Excellent food and excellent service. Worth every penny!

Yelp
This is one of my favorite chain restaurants. This location has both indoor and outdoor seating and a ton of parking available. The staff has always been good, I eat here often and have not had a bad experience. The food is a "Latin Asian fusion" and quite terrific, I highly recommend everything involving the BBQ short ribs (e.g. Nachos / Tacos). The avocado egg rolls are also quite amazing. Most everything on the menu is good to great. The cost is about average for the area and in-line with food/service quality. I do not recommend the desserts. I have tried several and while they were ok, none of them have impressed me.
google avatar

Breana H.

Yelp
Ambiance was great but the food was okay. All the meats were dry but the sauces had a lot of flavor. Our server was nice and attentive but a bit soft spoken so it was difficult to hear over the music playing. Location is convent to me so we'll come back if we want something quick.
google avatar

Andres G.

Yelp
I decided to treat myself on a Sunday afternoon, and boy did I pick the right place! The prices were very reasonable, and the food did not take very long to be served. The staff was friendly and will check-in with you to make sure everything seems in order. It wasn't very busy either, so no need to worry on being clustered. The real MVP of the meal was the fried yuca. This is definitely the must-have of this place!
google avatar

Maggie L.

Yelp
A good fast casual Asian style spot. Service was good, food was good. Would go back if I were in the area, but not a spot I would actively seek out.

Kentrel B.

Yelp
Came in and was immediately served. Our server Laura, was amazing. She was very efficient in getting our orders and even recommended dishes since it was our first time. The food was top notch and it arrived pretty quickly once oredered. The environment felt very relaxed and the staff were friendly. Will definitely be a regular at this location!

Lauren M.

Yelp
We had a great meal. good food and friendly service. lots of variety in their tacos from vegetarian, meat, fish, chicken
google avatar

Dayna P.

Yelp
This may be one of my favorite jalapeño margaritas ever - which is my go-to treat! It's yummy!!! Now that we have that information out of the way - let's talk about all the other details. There is a sign in the door asking for patience as they rebuild their staff, so they got some extra grace on timing because of that. I can appreciate that. Jackie was our server and although she was slammed, she was courteous and friendly the entire time. First we started with the asian nachos and they were a hit! The meat was super tender and it was just a nice take on queso nachos. The fried wonton chips were delicious too. Then we had a kids meal with quesadilla and fruit. Be aware that the fruit cup is just a dole cup and not fresh fruit. For the adults we had the tacos meal with three tacos and a side of jalapeño queso tots. For the three tacos, we ordered the pacific rim fish taco, the short rib, and the Aloha chicken. All were really good and something that I had not had elsewhere. I had no idea that they had outdoor seating until I looked around by the bar. It is a nice area and I will absolutely check that out next time. Another great thing about this place is the shopping center is large and full of great dining options. If you have a large group, you can park and each pick the option that beat suits you - it has Chinese, a gastro-pub brewery and a Mediterranean option... just to name a few.
google avatar

Yelp
BRING BACK THE PEAR EMPANADAS The restaurant seems to be experiencing some lull as many are right now. I'll always love them and their food.
google avatar

Samantha C.

Yelp
We first asked to sit outside and the host guided us that way. We then changed our minds on the way to the patio and asked if we could sit at the bar. Then host said ok and left us... we were confused and did not know if that meant choose a seat or he would help us out... so we awkwardly sat down. He took the menus and went back to the host stand without saying anything to us. They had a new nacho dish that was not the best. The chicken was slightly cold but our enchilada bowl was great as always! They also have an amazing mojito. We sat at the bar and the servers seemed distracted with taking inventory. In my opinion, that should not be distracting you from attending to your customers. The manager did check on us which I appreciated. We needed to ask for silverware. All in all I personally like the Marietta Square location better.
google avatar

Michael F.

Yelp
Too inconsistent. I've had both great and terrible experiences here and I'm a guy who doesn't like to go places when I never know what to expect quality-wise. Food is relatively consistent, service is definitely bi-polar. If you're lucky you'll get someone really nice, if you're not, you get someone who is very unhappy that you decided to come there for dinner. If I owned this place, I'd be talking to every guest that comes in until I figured out who the shitty, rude servers are, so I could fire them right away and save my business.

Harry S.

Yelp
I'm surprised I haven't reviewed this place. we come here all the time. it's a terrific place to come, all the food is good, everything is good. My wife used to work down the road from here in the school and everybody from the school comes here the prices are good the sizes are good everything is good. We have eaten here at least 20 times or more.
google avatar

Jen S.

Yelp
Yuck. Not our cup of tea. Can't eat here because e don't like the ingredients they use. But we're super picky. Tried it many years ago so it could have changed.
google avatar

Olivia G.

Yelp
Great drinks and love the tofu tacos! Queso tots are the bomb! They have a nice and spacious patio.
google avatar

Paulina A.

Yelp
They offer a fusion of Asian and Latin cuisine, which is certainly interesting and creative. I had the margarita with short rib quesadilla and yuca fries. While everything was very fresh and tasted good, it was not something I would crave on a regular basis. The flavor profile is very strong between the two cuisines.
google avatar

Asha S.

Yelp
So I've been to the Taqueria Tsunami in Athens and while I forget what exactly I ordered, I enjoyed my meal and gave that location a 4-star review. This time around, I thought that the 2 tacos I ordered were somewhat lackluster. I got the bugogi and rich man's taco and wasn't necessarily impressed with either one. At least they weren't expensive ($3-$4 each). I still recommend the avocado cilantro egg rolls (I DO remember that from the last time). If you're a fan of creamy avocado and crisp, crunchy fried dough, then you'll also enjoy them as an appetizer - heck, maybe I should have just gotten them as my meal this time around!
google avatar

Marsha G.

Yelp
Called to place a curbside order. Told the person answering the phone I wanted curbside. After 25 minutes I went to pickup my order. I called to let them know I was there. I Was rudely told on the phone, "we don't do that when we're busy". Waited 45 minutes for our food in total. When we got home it was cold. The Baja taco had nothing but pieces of breading in it. No fish at all.
google avatar

Lucille B.

Yelp
This place is great always consistent the food is always good the drinks are terrific and the ambience is very comfortable. The outdoor patio is really nice to sit and eat.
google avatar

Yelp
my favorite place!! def worth the hype! i get the trio, 2 thai chicken tacos and side of queso and tots! absolutely incredible! the ambience is fantastic, lots of cute string lights out on the back patio! servers are so sweet and kind!

Yelp
Good food and decent value. A group of us went there for early dinner tonight. I had the Asian Nachos with BBQ ribs. They used wonton instead of tortilla chips with corns, jalapeños peppers, tomatoes, green onions, cheese and shredded bbq ribs. The wonton were fresh and crispy and the marinated bbq ribs were delicious. The atmosphere of the restaurant was quiet with modern decor. The seating was comfortable with privacy. I like the bar is on the left side of the restaurant and away from the front door with modern and artistic design. I will go back for dinner for sure.
google avatar

Matt R.

Yelp
I love writing great reviews almost as much as I love great food. My sis-In-law is a regular. We were looking for something new. We had a rare night alone. I'm glad we spent some if that time at Tsunami. Live Music Singer was very good. Service, quick and personable. We went with 3 tacos. We sampled a little of everything. Each bite was flavorful, and you could taste each individual ingredient. Short rib, teriyaki, Mahi and shrimp tempura tacos. This will be our new spot.
google avatar

Megha S.

Yelp
Taqueria Tsunami is an awesome one of a kind Latin-Asian fusion chain restaurant. Variety of tacos and bowls to choose from! Soo flavorful and soo fresh The Avacado Spring Roll is a must must must! You all will thank me later. .
google avatar

Caitlyn R.

Yelp
I usually love this place so much... but I've had so many bad experiences recently. When you dine it, it's so good. I have been using them for Uber eats recently and unfortunately, it's so bad. Imagine ordering a steak quesadilla with chips and salsa... you get it it and there's no steak and no chips and salsa. You try to place another order and everything is sold out.. this is about 2 hours before they close. I am baffled. I really wish they would do some quality control before they sent their food off. Thankfully, Uber lets you dispute almost anything.

Yelp
Food: I was more than full with the Thai Chicken Empanada with the Asada Zing Taco. Really loved how tender the Bulgogi (Korean marinated steak) was. The empanadas we're drizzled with a Santa Fe ranch, but tasted better with the salsa Verde sauce. Service: Every staff member was friendly. I received a warm welcome from my waiter. A lady, who I assumed was the manager, stopped by every table to check in on our meal. Atmosphere: I came in on a Saturday around 5pm. About half the tables and bar seats were filled. It has a contemporary feel to it. The lights are dim, but you can still see everything clearly. If I'm back in the area, I will return to try the other fusion tacos.
google avatar

Kandus J.

Yelp
This place was highly disappointing!! It took forever for a server to come to the table and even longer to get our waters and drinks. The appetizer came out cold after our server disappeared for a very long time. We informed him and nothing was done to fix it. Then our entrees came out after a very long time. Cold again. This time the manager finally came over, and only offered to remake the food. The cold food was seasoned well, but when remade was hot but bland and seemed only half-assed with little to no seasoning. Very disappointing experience and only the appetizer was comped. Manager didn't seem to really care about fixing our overall experience. Definitely won't be back again.

Yelp
Great food and service every time. Love that place. Highly recommend it. Server are awesome.
